DCON

DCON 2015 will take you on a Service Adventure, where you will embark on a weekend of mesmerizing and meaningful excursions. Comprised of countless activities guided by a specially trained corps of rangers, the Welcoming Activity serves as the imperative introduction to our Jurassicthemed event. This sensational and exhilarating “training will prepare you for the epic events of the following three days. Our adventure will expose you to astounding speakers and new Key Club friends, exceptional officer training granting a renewed sense of service, thrilling competitions and award presentations, and untold expeditions to immerse you in our theme. From seeking for premonitions of creatures veiled among the shadows to crafting novel prehistoric structures, journey with us on this twisting and turning road of Service Adventure.

Due$ For your dues to be considered on time, you should have them mailed by November 26th or earlier so that we receive your dues BY November 30th! If your dues are not received by November 30th, then they are considered late! If you know your club dues will be late, then be aware that the late deadline is December 1st. If your dues are not received by February 1st, then you club will be suspended.

Not all of the clubs have payed yet so make sure they are sent in. Officers, check with your treasures and faculty advisors if you are unsure whether the dues were taken care of. This is extremely important because you do not want to be running a suspended or inactive club. If you have any questions you can contact me.

Divisional Project Gender Inequality Don’t forget to complete the divisional project Here is some more information on gender inequality. Use the ideas for projects from last month’s newsletter. _______________________________________________________________________________ Gender equality is the measurable equal representation of women and men. Gender equality does not imply that women and men are the same, but that they have equal value and should be accorded equal treatment.

The United Nations regards gender equality as a human right. It points out that empowering women is also an indispensable tool for advancing development and reducing poverty. Equal pay for equal work is one of the areas where gender equality is rarely seen. All too often women are paid less than men for doing the same work. This is one of the reasons that the majority of the world’s poor are women: around 70% of the people who live in extreme poverty, on less than US$1 a day, are girls and women. Suffrage (the right to vote) is another area of gender equality that still does not extend to all the women in the world. Saudi Arabia does not give women the right to vote; in the USA right wing commentators say that women should never have been given the right to vote.
