31 Years of May Madness!
National Masters Championships May 4-9, 2015 • Coral Springs, Florida
CORPORATE PARTNER OF THE bMASTERS BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
A MESSAGE FROM THE MBA CHAIRMAN Welcome to the 31st National Masters Basketball Championships. It is hard to believe that this is the 7th tournament under the supervision of the Masters Basketball Association. The board and our Senior Staff have worked hard to make this tournament the best yet. After last year’s tournament the board decided to retain the firm of Trifecta Team PR in Ft. Lauderdale, headed by Jack Heilig, to publicize the tournament and provide us with promotional ideas and support. One of our primary goals is to re-establish a 40-45 division. As our current teams “mature”, it will be important that the “younger guys” are coming onboard. We know they are out there and we need to do a better job in finding and attracting them to the tournament. The MBA National Masters Championships is the most professionally run and competitive Master’s Basketball tournament in the world and your board will continue to work hard to make certain that we meet that standard. Please make it a point to promote our tournament at other venues that you participate in, particularly with the 40-45 age group. Contact us if you are interested in handing out flyers at other tournaments. And we are very willing to promote all the masters basketball tournaments across the country. I encourage all of you to exhibit good sportsmanship and have a good time. Don’t get hurt and no hanging on the rim! All the best for a great tournament week.

SPORTSMEN OF THE YEAR
Masters Basketball Association
National Senior Championships Coral Springs, Florida • 2009 The men
listed here exemplify the qualities of sportsmanship and fair play that are the hallmarks of the MBA National Senior Championships. The Masters Basketball Association Board of Directors is proud to honor these special men with our most prestigious award.
2014 Recipient Damon Ellison of Indianapolis, Indiana Damon Ellison formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana and now residing in Gulfport, Florida has been playing Masters basketball since 1989 and he has participated in many tournaments throughout the United States. He was the Team Organizer for many years of the “Indy Phantoms,” a team that did not win a lot of games but always enjoyed the camaraderie and by their participation, brought a number of exciting players to the Masters Basketball tournament in South Florida as well as other tournaments throughout the United States. Born and raised in Indianapolis, known to the old-timers as “Naptown,” Damon played at Shortridge High School for local coaching legend, George Theofanis. He played high school ball against current MBA board member Mike Phelps and it was Mike that introduced Damon to the Masters Basketball community. Damon received a scholarship to Tuskeegee University and also played with Air Force teams during his time in the service. A graduate of Martin University in Indianapolis, Damon is retired from the Marion Indiana County Juvenile Detention Center, where he worked for 30 years, serving his last 15 as Superintendent. He has three children and been blessed with three grandchildren. In recent years, Damon has not been able to play but is hopeful that with the grace of God and modern technology, he will again be able to play in the near future. The Masters Basketball Association is pleased to welcome Damon to the list of outstanding “Sportsman of the Year.”
