A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD AND STAFF OF THE MBA On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Masters Basketball Association, the Sponsors and Staff, we want to welcome you to the 2013 National Senior Championships. This will be the fifth year that the MBA has operated the south Florida tournament that has now reached its 29th year. We continue to be very proud that the tradition of excellence that has been the hallmark of this tournament, has been continued under the supervision of the MBA. Once again, we have attracted teams from across the United States and Canada. The best Masters Basketball players in the country are heading to South Florida for another week of extraordinary competition. Truly, there is no other tournament like it in the United States. The Board continues to be faced with funding challenges. This situation was somewhat lessened this year when the board decided to add a Player Registration Fee. Even with this fee however, MBA Board Chairman, Kevin McNamara has once again been called upon to provide more than his fair share of the corporate funding necessary to operate the tournament. This is a tenuous situation. If Kevin were injured and could not play or reaches a point where he cannot continue to provide sponsorship dollars, the tournament would be in jeopardy. The solution is obvious but easier said than done to. One answer is to find a large corporate sponsor who folds the tournament into their overall promotional budget. The other is to secure a number of corporate sponsors in the $2500 to $5000 range to provide the approximately $35,000 of corporate dollars that are required to operate on a first class level. The board will continue to work on this issue and hopefully find a solution in the very near future. We are excited to report that there will be a live radio broadcast from the gym on both Friday and Saturday for the semi finals and finals. Wali Jones is responsible for bringing in โ€œSports Inside and Out - Legends of Sports Talk Radioโ€ show hosted by Coach Chuck Hatcher and world renown sports legends via the Sports Byline USA Network. We believe this will give the tournament a badly needed promotional boast and result in attracting more new teams. Coach Hatcher will be interviewing players, team organizers, coaches and sponsors. We are also pleased to welcome a new 50โ€™s team, the Chicago Legends, as well as Baptist Health and Dr. Bill Kranichfeld as our new medical director. It is all shaping up to be another great week of competitive basketball and camaraderie!
