Bridging the Computation and the Human Intelligence -Pursuing the Design Methodology and Theory in the Digital Native Era-

The improvement of calculating ability is one of the cornerstones of digital technologies' development; increased computing abilities can now operate highly complex simulations, due to enhancements in the data processing. Therefore, the morphology of architecture aided by artificial intelligence in recent years is increasingly complex, occasionally exceeding human intelligence, inferring possibilities of future architectural design. However, it is the double-edged sword that designers may lose their subjectivity if they overly rely on the computer-generated model. I will focus on both the advantages and disadvantages of digital design and investigate new design methodology, which integrates multidisciplinary factors with architectural design, applying emergent technologies and defining the relationship between designers and artificial intelligence.

My multidisciplinary approach to architecture is cultivated by the private school of architecture by Mr. Maeda, Japanese architect, and Department of System Design Engineering at Keio University, where I founded my basis of applied-engineering and architectural design. It organically interconnected with wide-ranging points of interest, and I gained my confidence by earning several awards, including two prizes in the said school of architecture and the selected work (10/910) in Japan's nation-wide student competition. One of my recently exhibited works (R&B Gallery, Tokyo, May 2019) explores the relationship between prime numbers and architectural form, represents an introduction into the proposed research framework, as well as my professional interest. In this project, I focused on unique relationships between specific pairs of prime numbers, called primitive root, through analysis of its arithmetic circular rules, applying said patterns to morphological models. This project reflected my overarching statement to then formulate a strategy in the upcoming digital native era, which design the semi-auto generation of space-and-form patterns by extracting and translating scientific aspects, such as arithmetic, into a project. The designer's subjectivity is included in the process of defining the rule of the phenomenon, and this would be the new design methodology if observing even the computation as 'the phenomenon.' It would be a critical aspect of how designers define the relationship with them and the computer.

My basis of studying architecture was founded 'conventional' way, based on the cultural and technological paradigm so far, from Professor Radovi at Keio University and Professor Takeyama at Kyoto University. However, as M.Carpo, an architecture historian, claimed that the digital design was generated under 'the vacuum condition,' I strongly felt the necessity of diving into the environment, which is actively interdisciplinary, applying digital technologies, and your school would be the best place for me to develop and pursue my goals.

To summarize, I will strive to develop new architectural methodologies for the upcoming era, specifically focusing on interdisciplinarity, to expand architectural design methods. To reiterate, I have already laid the groundwork for the study of engineering and understanding architectural theory through my previous education, which was necessary to achieve my goal of studying at Princeton School of Architecture. I am confident in making a significant contribution to architectural theory and practice in the Digital Native age, which will profoundly and irrevocably influence future societies.
