Initial IdeasÂ
Idea One – Run Boy Run Concept – The premise of this song is to have the main protagonist running through the street trying to avoid society itself. The main character would be portrayed as someone that is an introvert and wants to isolate themselves from the world. The character would be running through the street whilst be judged and glared upon by people passing by. The main idea of the music video is that the character is an outcast and the video itself is filmed with one continuous shot. The surrounding characters e.g. pedestrians would be in black and white to portray the idea that they are following society's regulations as they are enslaved. Whereas our main character feels as though he want to break free from the norm – he himself would be in color to represent how he stands out from brainwashed civilians. The concept of him running represents the pressures of society closing in. As if it as if he is being chased from something that isn't physically there, yet these thoughts are only figments of his imagination. The Video itself would be of our main character stuck in a continuous loop which represents the everyday 9 to 5 job. We could in fact have the character swap back to his real job where he is interrupted by another college.
Idea One -Page Two Clothing – to begin with our character would be wearing a dark rugged hoodie to portray the fact he doesn’t want to be seen by society. Also, he will be wearing basic blue jeans as well as some converse trainers. Everyone else around him however, is wearing uniform of some sort to show the fact there are no differences between them. The idea behind this is to create a corrupt world that is dominated by the government. Yet, when returned back to reality, our main character will be wearing a gas station uniform as he is greeted by a stereotypical teenager trying to purchase some liquor. Camera Work – we want the character to feel as though he is isolated from the rest of the world, so by the use of long shots we can empathies the fact that he is truly alone. Mise En Scene – The surroundings of the world will be in black and white whereas our main protagonist will be in color to establish the fact that he is different – Color isolation will be done in the throughout the editing process. The lighting will be ambient lighting, filled with a variety orange and purple hues to create the sense of an apocalyptic world that is falling into ruin, this could be in fact layered over the black and white to create a more demonic surrounding.
Idea two –Yonkers Concept – The main concept behind the video we are creating for Yonkers involves having a normal looking person having their mind portrayed as another person hindering their everyday activities. The range of activities that the person does that gets interrupted ranges from just normal daily tasks such as lunch right through to important work duties such as filing letters and printing important papers. How this gets hindered varies immensely depending on what is done. Example being that when printing these papers instead of work coming out pictures of his physical representation of his mind. Another hindrance is that during the mailing process of letter his "mind" ends up taking some of the mail and destroying it by tearing.
Idea Two – Page Two Costume Design – For the main character the costume would be mainly professional, wearing a smart shirt, tie and smart shoes. For the second character (representation of his mind), far more wild clothing would be worn to reflect the stark contrast between the two of the characters. For example, a big fur coat and sunglasses to show a way more laid back and less professional state of mind compared to how the main character is dressed. Camera Work: A lot of the camerawork would be handheld in order to portray the unstable balance of the characters self and mind, a bit hard to focus on separating the two at times. Mise-En-Scene: Over-Exposed lighting is another way of portraying the contrast between the two characters by going from one extreme to the next whenever the harsh over-0exposure is used. Many of the settings are based on normal daily lives of many people thus it seems a little more real, creating a stronger connection between the audience and the characters on screen.
Idea Three – Six Million Ways to Die Much like Yonkers, this music video will portray the more wild side of Hip Hop. Due to the lack of lyrics this song is heavily instrumental meaning that the main focus of the video will be fitting the character actions so that they are coherent to the beat of the song. The main premise of our video is to have one character interact with the general public as they act as a menace, wreaking havoc amounts the streets. There will only be one character throughout this video so we want the audience to be thoroughly entertained by their actions as they are the main source of our video. The only issue that we would have when filming this production is the consent of the general public. After we have in fact filmed the footage we would then need to ask permission from any bypasses which means we could film as whole scene however, it will not be valid due to the lac of consent.
Clothing – we want our character to be portrayed as if they are a 'beach bum' always looking on the upside to life despite the constant interferences of adulthood. His attire will be made up of long wavy hair, a flowered top – unbuttoned- ripped jean shorts and plain white Vans. For the surrounding background characters, we don’t necessary have control to what they will be wearing however, this will indeed make the video look more natural.
Idea Three – Page Two
Camera Work – Since the song is extremely upbeat, we want the camera to represent the chaotic nature of the characters actions. We intend to use a series of quick cuts which fit alongside the songs tempo, we also want to film the entire footage hand held so that we can empathies the anarchy. Mise en scene – The lighting of the video will be extremely saturated to help empathies how everything is out of place. The footage irtself will be filmed down our local high-street thus giving our character the opportunity to interact with the general population. For props, we want to use literally anything our character can get his hands on. We don’t intend to plan for this as we want the footage to feel as though its lawless, so buy letting our main character pick and choose what props he interacts with will allow for us to create a sense of humor within our video.
