Priesthill YPCE Society had their annual CE service on Sunday 31st January 2017. It was lovely to see the Church support the young people who were in charge of the service and took part in leading, drama, praying and Bible reading.

All the praise songs were selected by the CE members and thanks to all the musicians for playing them so well. David Fairley interviewed Rebekah Jackson who spoke about how she recently became a Christian at a summer camp and has since joined the Church and CE so that she can grow in her faith. All fifteen young people took part in the drama titled ‘What did Jesus actually do?’ which was written by Play it by Ear. The young people really brought the life of Jesus alive with their fantastic dramatic talents. The Sunday School, CE and the congregation had all collected teddy bears for the service and given to Spud Bear Ministries. This year the C.E. is supporting Spud Bear Ministries so Colin Davies had come to share with the congregation about this work. We learnt the name 'Spud Bears ' came from one little 8 year old girl, named Lanni. When Colin told her where he was from a place called Ireland she said that she knew that we liked to eat potatoes there. Colin told her we called them spuds and she decided to call her bear Spud Bear. Colin was so sad to hear that Lanni had passed away a short while after he returned home, but he decided to name the ministry after her teddy bear....Spud Bear. So far they have sent out 1721 teddies to children in Uganda, Tanzania and Ecuador.

Currently this organisation have a really excited project which is their solar powered animatronic talking teddy bears. These bears are used to read Bible stories, share the Gospel and teach life-saving information about healthcare, especially Malaria prevention, to children in remote hospitals, orphanages and schools. Many can ’t read or have limited sight. They have 85 solar powered Spud Bears operating around the world and this is just the beginning, we have plans for our USB and GPS enabled next generation bears that will be able to do so much more!!!! We were all very touched by the work that Colin is doing and we will continue to pray for him.
