The annual Armagh & South Tyrone Union Presidential Rally was held on the 24th April in 1st Portadown Presbyterian Church Hall. A good number turned out for the evening which was a great encouragement.

Miss Alison Colbert played from Clonaneese YPCE while Mrs. Muriel McIlveen from Hill Street Seniors played the closing hymn, “Ireland for Christ” .

Rev Ivor Smith, the out-going President, led the meeting and Mr. Billy Calvert, from 1st Portadown Senior CE, opened in prayer. Mrs. Rosemary McDaniel gave the annual report and Clonaneese YP sang two beautiful pieces, “Be still and know that I am God” and “You are my strength when I am weak” .

Mrs. Helen Coote, from Hill Street Juniors, read John: 10 v 1-10. Mr. Smith then gave his report of his year in Office after which he handed over the chain to the Rev Maurice Laverty for the incoming year. Mr. Laverty has taken as his theme for his year in Office, The Fuller Life and how we need to strive for that closer relationship with God and want to get to know more of Him.

1st Portadown Seniors provided a beautiful supper which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

JUNIORS HAVE FUN

On Saturday 25th March Armagh and South Tyrone CE Union held their Fun Day in Dungannon Presbyterian Church Halls from 10 am – 12.30pm. As the children gathered in, we played games and had fun together. Then we had some team games with help from young people, leaders, and helpers from Ballygawley/Ballyreagh and Clonaneese CE Societies. We had the privilege of having the Irish CE President, Mr. Alan Blair and our own Union President, Rev Ivor Smith at our Fun Day.

At 11.00am we made our way into another hall where Eleanor and her friends, from Seed Sower Puppets, put on a great show with story telling and action songs. We all took part in singing and doing the actions. The puppets shared the creation story and also stressed how very important it is to pray to our God.

After saying goodbye to Eleanor, her friends and all the puppets we headed back into the main hall. Mrs. Rosemary McDaniel had prepared hot dogs and chicken bites. After the hot food, there were bars, biscuits, and buns. Everything went down so well. We all sat around and enjoyed our lunch together. Before we knew it was time for home.

I want to say a big,

“Thank you ” , to everyone who made our Fun Day so enjoyable. Thanks to everyone who helped out with registration, games, food, and supervision. We could not run this day without all your help. Thank you so much.

We would love to see more at the Fun Day. Whenever we meet up like this, it is good to see the folk from the different CE Societies and build upon our friendships with people whom we might not see too often. Hope to see you next year!
