Board Botschaft: Record Keeping

One of the few things I like better than an interesting car is an interesting car with a story. Sometimes that story is verbal, sometimes it is in the form of paper. A documented paper trail not only adds interest, but also adds value when it comes time to sell.

I recently acquired a 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera cabriolet. Along with the keys to the car, the seller handed me a folder containing 114 pages of receipts for maintenance and repairs on the car, dating back to 1988. That level of comprehensive detail is gold, as it shows the car has been well cared for, specifies everything ever done to it, and also documents its mileage. I paid a bit more than I initially wanted to for the car, because of that treasure trove of paper; but it’s worth it. However, it’s not always that easy to obtain that history.

My 1980 Porsche 928 came to me in 2018 from its 3rd owner with a good bit of documentation, dating back to the original owner, but I wanted more. Some of the early documents included the original owner’s name, as well as a registration in his company name. I looked up the company, found it still existed, and he was still the CEO of the company. Also included on one of the documents was his date of birth, so I knew he was 82 years old at that time. So, rather than call him, I decided to send a letter, explaining that I had just bought his old 928, and did he happen to have any photos or stories about the car. About a week later, I received a text message from him. We talked on the phone, he told me the story of how he ordered the car from his local Porsche dealer in Detroit, he and his wife picked up the car at the factory in Germany, then proceeded to drive it throughout Europe for a month before having it shipped home. In addition to the warning triangle given to him upon picking up the car in Stuttgart, he sent me several photos from their trip: with the car at the factory, driving

through the German countryside, stopped in the Alps. He also told me the story of having a radar detector installed in the car in the mid 1980’s, as he was getting too many speeding tickets (the radar detector is still in the car). These stories and photos are now in the history file for the car.

When I buy a car from a dealer auction, there is typically little to no documentation or service records available, other than what limited info might be shown on a CarFax report. But sometimes, all it takes is one piece of info, to lead to others. I bought a 2017 Alfa Romeo 4C last year through a dealer auction, not expecting to get any specific service records with it. However, tucked away in the trunk, underneath a car cover, I found a service receipt with the prior owner’s name and phone number. Since this was reported to be a 1 owner car, I believed this owner to be the original owner. So, I called him. And he was the original owner, told me the story of his search for this particular car, and then mailed me all the original service records.

So, what do you do with all this paper? I still have the documents for the Carrera and 4C in folders. The 928 documents are in a 3 ring binder, with a selection of documents and photos featured in a poster I had made. Whatever you do with your records, keep them, save them, and pass them along with the car. Once that history is gone, it is gone forever. Your modern Porsche today may be someone’s collectible pride and joy in the future. Save the records!

Maverick of the Month

Landon Stogner

Landon joined Maverick Region in 2016; he owns a 2010 911 (997.2) Cabriolet. He became the region’s Volunteer Chair in 2018, starting a volunteer registration database to collect and organize information about members who were interested in different types of events, so that they could be notified when a certain event needed volunteer assistance. Members can fill out the volunteer form at https://www.mavpca.org/volunteer to get involved.

As part of the Volunteer Chair responsibilities, Landon also named the Maverick of the Month winners, recognizing people who had made out-of-the-ordinary contributions to the region for a given month. The typical Mav of the Month award was a gift card to a particular restaurant, but when that restaurant closed, he began awarding Amazon gift cards to the recipients, as well as unique Maverick-logo baseball caps that were not available elsewhere.

To recognize long-time repeat volunteers, he came up with neon green Volunteer T-shirts with the Maverick Region logo on the front and the PCA National Volunteer logo on the back, along with the term “Pit Crew.” Landon has recruited scores of volunteers over the years, but the largest single volunteer group was 15 for the 2022 Concours at Grapevine Lake, which arrived early Sunday morning to get the event set up before cars began arriving.

Landon’s two sons, Corbin (age 16 and now driving) and Brady (age 14) are both PCA Juniors, joining in 2018 and 2019 when the program started. Landon also Co-Chaired Maverick’s PCA Juniors program in 2020, and Brady was the PCA Juniors Ambassador that year as well, writing a quarterly article for Slipstream called “PCA Porsche Playground.”

Landon has decided to step down from the Volunteers Chair role, so please join us in congratulating Landon as our well-deserved Mav of the Month!

The Maverick of Month recognizes one member of the club each month for exemplifying what it means to be a Maverick. Volunteers, Board of Director Chairs and Members at Large going out of their way to give back and lead are the backbone of our club. Winners receive our undying thanks, and a $75 gift card provided by Autobahn Porsche. Do you know someone that embodies what it means to be a Maverick? Nominate them for the Maverick of the Month! volunteers@mavpca.org

HCR: Friends, Driving Skill, and a Little Bit of Luck Win the Day

If you are an air-cooled Porsche enthusiast in Texas, chances are you’ve heard of the Hill Country Rallye. It’s an annual three-day meet-up where people from all walks of life, from any number of states and countries, all converge on a small Texas town with one shared purpose: to drive the wheels off their Porsches.

Last week, after servicing, I got the thumbs-up from my Porsche shop, so Thursday morning, I left Fort Worth to meet a group of DFW drivers heading down to Kerrville.

On the road, we stopped in Hamilton for lunch. We rolled into the parking lot single file, went inside, and then made plans for the rest of the day: one group would tour Martin Bros. Customs in Johnson City, while the other group would head to a brewery in Fredericksburg.

From the restaurant, in kind of a slow motion rendition of a Le Mans start, we all got into our cars and fired them up. All except mine started. My engine cranked, but wouldn’t fire. Not to dampen the group’s enthusiasm and feigning confidence, I told them it was okay to go and that I would catch up later.

After an hour of solitude, I finally got underway –whew! Instead of chasing the group to Martin Bros.,

as originally planned, I decided a beer would be best and headed for the brewery.

We got to Kerrville that evening, picked up our event packets, and had time to meet and get to know other Rallye participants.

Friday morning came early with texts from Paul Moseley discussing routes for the day. By 9:30 am we’re off. The day’s route took us north on a series of technical drives through winding ranch roads past Enchanted Rock, Llano, and to Marble Falls for lunch before heading south. After lunch, all cars started except mine. Heat

Top to bottom: Whether you are planning the days route, or swapping stories at the end of the day; sometimes it’s easy and other times it isn’t. Either way a good beer and friends make it all memorable. So pick up the phone, call up some like-minded friends and get out there. The Hill Country is a great destination for your Porsche, air-cooled or not. There are so many things to see and do, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

inside the engine compartment was preventing the fuel pump from kicking on. Enter my heroes: Christian Guest and Tom and Justin Keller. They quickly diagnosed the problem and found a solution. Hats off to these guys!

Saturday started much like Friday, however instead of driving in a large group, Raul Pena, Marc Mansell, Ajai and Mary Cadambi and I struck out for the Three Sisters. Those roads stole the show! Three hours of non-

stop rollercoaster hills, switchbacks, and incredible scenic views. They’re a must for any car enthusiast.

Saturday night’s banquet didn’t disappoint, either. What a great way to end the event by meeting new people, comparing stories, and making plans on returning next year.

Understanding that the Hill Country Rallye isn’t a PCA-sanctioned event, it was, however, the Maverick Region members who really made it memorable.

Februrary Mavs&Mochas: Turbo Coffee

Our monthly Mavs & Mochas events always pair cars and coffee, so what better place to meet up than a business that pairs coffee and cars? Turbo Coffee in the Colony was our gracious host this month, and their love of cars is obvious when you step inside or read their menu.

Cara, the manager said, “We like living in the fast lane and meeting as much of the community as possible. We are passionate about bringing the people together and we love the car community. It’s what Turbo Coffee is centered around.”

There is plenty of space inside for a lovely breakfast and enough space outside for the 98 cars that arrived. Of those 98 cars, 18 were the feature car: the Turbo 911. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the 911, and what a start it had.

By the early 1960s, Porsche had gained a reputation for quality, high-performance cars, due in large part to the 356. However, after more than a decade, the 356 was coming due for a major redesign. In 1963 at the Frankfurt Auto Show in Frankfurt, Germany the Porsche 901 made its debut. The car’s success at that show was the motivation for the Porsche factory to begin production as soon as possible due to public interest in the new model.

In September 1964, production on the 901 began and 82 cars were made before a dispute erupted over the naming convention. The French car manufacturer Peugeot took issue with the “901” designation because they had patented a three-digit numeric name for one of their cars that also contained a zero as the middle digit. They claimed to have ownership of the naming convention and that they had already sold many cars using this convention.

How did Porsche react? They changed the “0” to a “1” and called their car the Porsche 911. Then they fired up their air-cooled, rear-engine sports car and defiantly raced into history with an iconic name for their iconic car that is still going strong to this day.

Equipe Rapide Autocross Series: 2023

Equipe Rapide Sports Car Club (www.autocross.com)

is Maverick Region’s Autocross connection! The first Autocross event of 2023 was a Pro-Solo style dual course layout. This uses a drag race-style simultaneous twocar start where reaction time and 60-foot times really matter. Each competitor got six runs on each side and the single best clean time from each side was added together to determine the results. With over 125 drivers and 12 runs each, there were more than 750 exciting side-by-side races starting just 20 seconds apart. There were 15 Porsche drivers entered in the Porsche and SCCA classes consisting of 914s, air and water cooled 911s, a 944, a Boxster, and a bunch of Caymans.

Fastest combined time of the day was a battle between Todd Briley in his new-to-him 2.5 liter Turbo 718 Cayman GTS and a C8 Corvette, both with PDK-type transmissions. These two cars accelerate out of autocross turns so hard you can physically see their incredible acceleration. The combined difference came down to just 0.032 seconds.

Our annual Autocross School March 18 is sold out again! We do instruct and coach at all events. Full results, schedules, and details of the next nine events can be found at www.autocross.com. Contact me for questions, classing information or details at AX@MAVPCA.ORG

Each year, we review, and update if needed, the Equipe Rapide autocross classes for Porsches. Since many of our participants also run some of the other 40 autocross events in North Texas, we try to keep our preparation and groupings consistent with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) groupings and Performance Index (PAX), the handicapping system that is updated annually based on results from all over the country. This PAX INDEX also makes it possible to compare results across all classes.

For 2023, we still have our own Porsche Classes, built into the SCCA model used by our autocross host, Equipe Rapide Sports Car Club (https://autocross.com). This year’s classes are very similar to 2022, except the big Porsche Taycan remains in P3 and the Panamera has moved to P-0. The first 7 classes below are limited to Street Tires with a Treadwear Rating of 200 or higher.

PV is the Vintage Porsche class for all street-legal 356 and 912 Porsches.

PH is the Heritage Classic Street class, parallel to the SCCA HCS class. All street legal 914 and all 911 to 1973 and 2.4 liters, both with up to 7-inch wide wheels fit here.

P0 is unchanged and is for all our four-door SUV and Panamera models.

P1 is for all the front-engine transaxle cars and 1974 – 1989 911 all, All 924, 944, 968, and 928’s.

P2 is for the 1990 – 2012 911 all, 1990-2009 911 Turbo, 19972016 Boxster and Cayman all.

P3 is for the 2017 – 2023 Boxster and Cayman 718 all, 20042012 GT3, 2012-2023 991/992 (not including S or GTS), and 2005-2012 911 S, GTS, and 911 Speedster. The Taycan has been moved here for 2023 also.

P4 is for 2010-2023 911 Turbo, 2013-2023 991/992 S and GTS.

P5 is for modified or not-otherwise-classified (NOC) street legal cars, any DOT Tires, current street registration, race seats, coil overs, other performance mods, also e 20132023 911 Speedster, 911 R, GT3, GT3 RS, GT2, GT2 RS, and Carrera GT, 918 Spyder, etc.

P6 is for all race cars or non-street legal Porsches. We get some club race cars and Spec Boxster race cars that fit here.

Ed Mayo’s Birthday Party

What’s more fun than a birthday party? Why, a surprise birthday party, of course! What’s more fun than a surprise birthday

who happened to be celebrating a “milestone” birthday at the end of the month (you can find just which “milestone” it is by checking out the photos). The most surprised person present was of course the guest of honor, who had NO idea all this planning and organizing had been in the works –making it all the more special!

party? A surprise party with dozens and dozens of friends, where even they don’t know a party’s about to happen!

Just such a party took place at the February Motoring Mavs at Mayo’s, when a very close group of Ed Mayo’s friends and associates conspired to have a true surprise party for Ed,

Ed, many congratulations – and many, many thanks to you for all you’ve done for PCA, for the Maverick Region, and for so many Porsche owners everywhere! We’ve loved, enjoyed, and cherished our Porsches that much better – and that much longer – thanks to you! Best wishes for many more happy years!

Maverick Marktpreis: 912

What do you get if you put a 356 flat-four engine inside a 911 body? Well, you get a sweetness called 912, a superb handling, entry level Porsche. Back in 1965, as Porsche closed out the chapter on the patriarchal 356 with the now iconic 911 and its flat-six engine, Porsche needed a lower priced 4-cylinder model to drive sales. Enter the 912. The sweet combination of the boxer four engine and 901 (911) body proved to be a huge hit. After its introduction in 1965 through 1967, 912 outsold 911 by nearly two to one.

Besides the engine differences, the two models are nearly identical. The 912 has a three-gauge cluster compared to the 911’s five. It has a 4-speed transmission instead of the 911’s 5-speed. While the 912 generates

At

40 hp less than the 911, it more than made up for it by weighing 200 pounds less. Back in 1965, test drivers reported the 912 offered neater, less tail-happy handling, and at times, could be driven faster than the 911!

The original 912 was produced through 1969. It was superseded by the new 914. Interestingly, Porsche brought the 912 back for a 1-year only production in 1976 (called the 912E), again, to bridge the gap between the end of 914 production and the upcoming launch of 924 in 1977. The 912E is based on the impact-bumper (G-series) generation 911. Only 2,099 (912E) examples were produced.

The 912 deserves a spot in your stable. As the saying goes, it has the engine that made Porsche famous, and the body that made it a legend.

FUN FACT: Porsche proudly promoted the new 912 Targa model for police use. The 100,000th Porsche was a 912 Targa. It was out tted with POLIZEI markings and was delivered to the Baden-Württemberg police department, the home state of Porsche, on December 21, 1966.

Coffee, Cars & Conversation

So another chance meetingthis never gets old to me. We were attending a Mavs & Mochas at a new venue for us called Cypress Waters in Dallas off 635 and Denton Tap Rd. I was running in to grab a cup of coffee and as I came out, I ran into this guy and said “hi” and asked if he was new. Well as luck would have it, he was new so we spent the next 20-30 minutes chatting. I introduced him to some of the regulars. Since then, I have seen him out many times, sometimes at an event and one time at the “repair shop” we both apparently use on occasion.

So here is the next in my series of “conversations” I would like to share with you….

Chris Chilton, Member since 2022, Enthusiast since 1971 1980 SC Targa

Bill Kruder: We always start with “where are you from?”

Chris Chilton: Well, we moved around a bit, as my stepdad was a B58 pilot in the Air Force but yes, I am from right here in Fort Worth.

BK: I think you were telling me that you lived in a couple of interesting places on or near bases right here in the US?

CC: That we did. I think it was 1961; we were stationed at Bunker Hill, now Grissom Air Force Base, located about 12 miles north of Kokomo, Indiana, about an hour north of Indianapolis. Back then it was home to the B58s. Today it is home to KC 135 Stratotankers. Later on we spent time at SAC (Strategic Air Command) Headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base just south of Omaha, Nebraska.

BK: I hear your high school years were not the most “normal”?

CC: That depends on “normal” (smiling). Yes, it was different. In 1967, as I entered 9th grade, I was sent to Allen Military Academy in Bryan, Texas. That lasted just a year then I returned home to attend public

BK: What did you do after college for a career?

CC: My first job was back in Fort Worth at Radio Shack. I was running a store then and from there was in the corporate office in marketing for the OEM computer group. I left there in 1984 and would spend the next 20 years in the tech world doing marketing and PR. My last years I was head of marketing for BRIT (Botanical Research Institute of Texas) retiring in 2020.

BK: Tell me about how you and Mary met?

CC: Let’s see. My brother, his girlfriend, and I were cooking dinner one evening and we needed an extra pan, so she tells me to run next door and borrow one. Needless to say, I do, and who is there but Mary. Suffice to say we have been together ever since, well kind of (smiling).

BK: Hmmm, sounds like a story, but when did you get married?

school for my tenth and eleventh grade years. This was followed by my twelfth grade being once again shipped off to military school, Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas, graduating in 1970.

BK: Those are some high school years! How about college?

CC: Ha, that is a lot less complicated. I went to SFA (Stephen F. Austin) in Nacogdoches, Texas. I graduated in 1976 with a BBA in Marketing. Only hiccup was I had too good of a time, so it took me that fifth year (smiling).

CC: We were married very shortly thereafter in 1981. The “kind of” comes because we separated for a year in 1983, realized we really were meant to be together, and reunited in 1984. Three years later we had our son Thomas (1987) and two years later our son Andrew was born (1989). Andrew is married and lives in Denver while Thomas will be married this March 31 and lives here.

BK: Let’s change subjects now. What was your first car?

CC: That would have been my 1964 Karmann Ghia. I was 18; two friends and I drove it from here to San Francisco.

22 April Coffee, Cars & Conversation is proudly sponsored by: 7777 Warren Parkway Ste 325, Frisco TX
Chris Chilton

BK: What was your first Porsche if not the 1980?

CC: As I told you, I have been an enthusiast since 1971 and that’s because it was a ‘71 914 that started it all. Funny story to that is my mom said she would buy me a car. I pick the 914 so she goes to the dealer and looks. She calls me with some questions, one of which was “do you want a 4 or 6?” Yes, she asked me that, and I said “oh the 4 is fine” (laughing). Worst decision of my life at that time (smiling)! That car was also part of the reason I took five years to get through SFA.

BK: Tell me about the SC?

CC: I always admired the SC as a great period for Porsche and of course I love the Targas. So after looking I found this in Alpine White out east in Maryland two years ago. Since then I have slowly been getting the bugs out of it. In doing some research on the car I think it spent some time in Europe.

BK: Now tell me about this love of open wheel racing you have and how that started.

CC: Let’s just say I grew up with Jim Clark as my idol. In 1965 he is racing at Indy and he wins the race. He is taking his victory lap; I’m in the stands sitting low in Turn One. Clark enters the turn and as he makes the turn he looks up and for that split second we made eye contact it was like the “moment” the world stopped. It was after that race I said, “I’m racing cars, too.”

BK: To this day I hear you go to the Indy 500?

CC: Yes, I do. I have been to every race since 1980. Funny story: years ago I wanted to get seats that were once used for only the press. They are like on the “50 yard line,” so I send this crazy letter to the director of tickets explaining how much I wanted those seats. To help seal the deal I also sent her a dozen roses . . . and yes, (smiling) I have those seats today. A quick postscript on the 500: In 2019, while I was racing at Indy, I actually got to meet her AND she remembered my letter and roses!

BK: Tell me about your open wheel racing?

CC: In 1984, I bought my first Formula Vee car, a Lynx B. They are all rear engine, open wheel cars using a 1200cc VW engine, with a top speed of about 115 mph. We raced that car all over the state for the next 10 years. Then in about 1996 we lived in Montreal and bought a Canadian Formula Vee and raced it at Circuit Mont-Tremblant, the former Canadian F1 track. Once returning to the states, I bought another Lynx B and raced in a vintage series from 2012 to 2022, upon which, after 38 years, I decided to retire from the program.

Driving Friendships on track or on the road! It never gets old.

Motorsport Mike: February Meet the Driver Recap

Fine diamonds weren’t the only thing sparkling at de Boulle’s Diamond & Jewelry store on the evening of Thursday February 23. Indeed, an electrifying crowd of over 100 was on hand to hear pro racer Nick Boulle share his motorsport story at our first of the year 2023 “Meet The Driver” event. Lucky attendees were able to browse (and purchase ☺) finely displayed jewelry, all while feasting on hors d’oeuvres and sipping crafted cocktails.

Nick’s love for cars started at a young age, and he quickly developed a competitive spirit racing shifter carts that took him to races all across Europe. Like many motorsport enthusiasts at the time, Michael Schumacher became Nick’s racing hero for his

the most skilled professional drivers! Nick took the audience through his thrills of winning the 2017 24 Hours of Daytona and successfully completing both the 2018 and 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans. Behind the scenes, Nick is a pure student of the sport, working with the engineers and mechanics studying the telemetry, with the goal of securing the highest performance out of his machine. He was quick to acknowledge how much of a team effort the sport is, and his greatest satisfaction is seeing everything come together on a race weekend.

dominance on the F1 circuit. Nick shared his love for racing circuits all over the world with the likes of Spa-Francorchamps, Le Mans, Daytona, and Indianapolis.

One of his fondest accomplishments was taking the famous “Eau Rouge” corner at Spa flat out, a feat taken on and successfully completed by only

This humble young man recognizes how fortunate he is to be living a dream on the track. Nick doesn’t take anything for granted and knows he has some unfinished business in the racecar. He has a strong desire to run in an upcoming North American WEC (World Endurance Cup) series at Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen, and Road Atlanta. I’m willing to bet that with Nick’s talent, passion and drive to succeed, it won’t be long before we see him on another race winning podium!

PCA Sim Racing: Equipment

Hopefully you saw our introduction to Sim Racing in the March Online Slipstream and, just maybe, we have started to pique your interest. You should be interested, it’s fun! Typically, the next question asked is, “What do I need to get started?” That is the subject of this month’s Sim Racing article.

Computer

PCA Sim Racing is hosted on iRacing, a computer software subscription service, accessed over the Internet. To begin, you need a computer and a reliable wired Internet connection. A Wi-Fi connection can be used but may lead to latency issues. Most current-generation PCs will perform effectively on iRacing. In the event you own an older computer, an upgraded graphics card could potentially be all that is required to enable iRacing to operate successfully. Intel-based Mac users can run iRacing using Windows on Bootcamp. A quick visit to https://www.iracing.com/membership/systemrequirements/ should answer most questions. iRacing provides a System Requirements Checker so you can test whether your current system is ready to go racing.

TV or Monitor

Next, you need to see where you’re going! Your computer needs to be connected to a TV or standalone monitor; a laptop screen is not going to be sufficient. A screen size of 27” is probably the bare minimum, but don’t we all have these lovely large TVs in our homes

now? Those will work! Robert began his Sim Racing career driving on an older plasma screen mounted on the wall. So, dig out that old TV you put in the guest roomit’s now your windshield to the world of Sim Racing.

Sound

You are also going to want to hear your car, tires, and other cars. TV speakers work fine for this; however, you may also want to be able to communicate with other drivers and coaches. For this reason, we recommend a gaming headset with microphone. There are plenty of options available at your favorite online retailer.

Controller (i.e., Steering Wheel and Pedals)

According to iRacing, all you need to control your virtual race car is an “Analog game pad, joystick, mouse, or touch screen.” That may be true, but it is not going to be a good experience for you or your fellow competitors. To truly enjoy what Sim Racing has to offer, you are going to need to connect a steering wheel and pedals to your computer. This is where this hobby gets fun: the toys!

The range of options for steering wheels and pedals to go Sim Racing can be overwhelming and comes with a wide range of costs. This might be a good time to start thinking about a budget. How much you spend initially might depend on how much you think you will enjoy Sim Racing. We are here to help you navigate the choices to fit within a budget that ranges from a set of brake pads to a set of tires, or more if you know you are ready to fully dive in. Most entry level options will clamp to a desk, or you can purchase a small wheel stand. Jason entered the hobby exactly this way - about $600 for wheel and (upgraded) pedals and then a series of upgrades from there. Whatever your budget dictates, we can help. We have included some entry level options and pricing here, but feel free to contact us and we can talk through the options which are best for you.

That’s all it takes to get started. If you have questions, or you just want to try it out, contact us at simracing@mavpca.org, and we can work out a time for you to give it a try on one of our setups.

Next month, we’ll dive into how iRacing and PCA Sim Racing work.

Oversteer: Letter from the Editor

Scottsdale Ferrari recently listed Max Verstappen’s 2019 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Club Sport for $795,000. A run of the mill 2019 GT2 RS with similar miles goes for around $400,000 these days. So you’re almost buying two to enjoy the feeling of owning a car that arguably one of the most famous current F1 drivers and youngest race winner in F1 history once owned. I say owned, because he didn’t drive it much. It has 2,185 miles on it, or roughly equivalent to a busy weekend in the Hill Country. He also signed the hood. I understand collecting, which I have to imagine is where this car will wind up. I happen to be the proud owner of a photo that Vic Elford once signed. Cue polite applause.

I’ll skip past the observation that the photos are terrible and there are water spots everywhere, and move to the part where it’s listed as a used 2019 Porsche GT2 RS. It makes me laugh that more care has not been taken when asking for a $395,000 markup for a care solely based on previous ownership. I might be a little salty because I know the

market will bear said asking price (and probably exceed it), and also that I’m not even remotely in the market. As I mentioned, I also enjoy collecting things. I can confidently say that I’ve never paid more than 200% what something was worth in order to obtain it. Most likely. Probably. Moving on.

To me collector cars are funny things though. Especially when they are so new and have so little history. I will say, if this is your thing, I think that’s great. Old race cars used to be sent to the wrecking yard when they were finished with them so I’m glad we see the value in preserving this kind of thing now. What strikes me as odd though is owning an object designed to do something other than look at and not using it for it’s intended purpose. Especially when it’s something as good at what it does as Porsches are. Please collect all the AMC Pacers you can and polish them until your heart is content. I know I am thinking too small, but I sure hope this one gets driven. I hope you drive your special car(s) soon and often. Enjoy the Drive.
