ACTIVITY #1

During this activity, we were split into groups of 3 or 4. We were tasked to research and find out about the mission and vision of well known companies.

ACTIVITY #2 In this activity, amongst the three of us in the group, each of us has to come up with a business idea to propose to our lecturer. The business has to be under the theme of sustainablility. In the end, we will have to decide within our group whose idea we want to pursue.

I decided to develop a business idea that uses disposable face mask waste as the main raw material used to create products.

GROUP PROJECT - IJO We started our project with research and analysis on our target market, competitors, product (USP), and continued with marketing plan, logistic and operations plan and financial plan.

During this research phase, we split tasks and I did the competitor analysis, target market, marketing plan, and financial plan. We also divided ourselves into roles where I am entitled as the “Production & Costing”. However, I will be focusing on designing the logo for our branding later in the design phase. Before designing, we had to come up with a name for our brand. Here we brainstormed on the possibilites for our brand name.

We decided to choose IJO as our brand name because IJO is derived from the word ‘hijau’, the Bahasa indonesia trnslation of green. I then proceeded on sketching the logo and making sure it is in-line with the moodboard and colour palette my groupmate have made.

LOGO DESIGN #1

I came up with 20 sketches of 3 concepts. After receiving feedbacks from our lecturer, I decided to digitise and refine 2 of the 3 concepts. The reference images on the left is for my first concept that is organic, quirky, and bold. I wanted to play around with the textures, having organic brush strokes and rough textures of the stone. An arrow is implemented into the logo to represent the letter ‘i’ and also sustainability.

ORGANIC, BOLD, QUIRKY

Feedback: - Looks minimalistic, simple and not really playful - The colour combination looks like the fast food brand Subway

LOGO DESIGN #2 The 2nd concept is for the logo to look more playful, clean, yet organic at the same time. I am inspired by these logograms that uses the letters to represent expressions. Therefore, I came up with a logo that consists of the 3 letters IJO to form a smiling face and try to morph the form of a leaf as the mouth while still making it look like its smiling and still legible as letter ‘O’.

PLAYFUL, ORGANIC, CLEAN

Feedback: - The mouth needs to be adjusted again to make it more legible as letter ‘O’ - If cannot, you can add a tagline under the mouth - If you use the logotype ‘IJO’ beside the symbol you have made, the symbol becomes redundant, the concept is lost

I then revised the logo based on the feedbacks given and decided to combine the symbol circled in green and the logo circled in red as the final logo design. The final logo now can clearly be seen the 3 letters IJO in the symbol. Letter ‘I’ as the eye, ‘J’ as the nose, and ‘O’ as the tongue in the mouth. The mouth itself is made to form the shape of a leaf. The logotype now is IJO LIVING, however, after feedbacks with my lecturer, I customised the type ‘LIVING’ and made the weight of the type slighlty thinner so that ‘IJO’ will still be highlighted as our brand name.

Financial Plan I also handled the financial plan. The screenshots below are taken from the spreadsheets I used to calculate the Cost Of Goods Sold (COGS), Revenue, Income Statement, and also Break-Even Point.

Before this project, I have wanted to learn more about business and its financial planning, therefore, I had fun and enjoyed every step.

I also designed 5 posts for @ijo_living. I designed the ‘how to use’ carousel posts, educational carousel post (raising awareness about plastic waste), website promotion post and about us post. All the product photography used here are taken by us.
