MAXIME LESLEY DOWNE PART II ARCHITECTURAL ASSISTANT INTERACTIVE CV

MAXIME LESLEY DOWNE PART II ARCHITECTURAL ASSISTANT I feel that it is important to view architecture as an interconnected piece of the urban tissue rather than an isolated object. The architecture that we create should be heavily informed not only by the aesthetics of its context but by the series of systems that surround it, visible and invisible, in continual transformation, constantly reorganising themselves through processes of both expansion and retraction. My experience in university has taught me that identifying conflicting urban issues is key to any project. It is in this sense that I have coded digital tools and sought out new ways to gather relevant data as well as analyse and draw conclusions from that data, from which the issues brought to light can be tackled and resolved. My interests include comics, animation, cycling, art and travelling...

FLY: FARM // SUB: LIFE 2045 - Masters Thesis Project 2016/17

This project is set in 2045. It is an investigation into Man’s impact on the environment and the drastic actions that need to be put in place in order to survive. Climate change being a reality and the use of greenhouse gases are increasing every year, causing irreversible damage to our environment. Changing our behaviour in order to minimise the effects of climate change is something that the global population does not seem to want to do and so drastic actions must be taken in order to ensure our survival. INTER[B]LOCK - BA Final Year Project 2013/14 This project is one of urban revitalization. It focuses on an area of Manchester that has become disconnected, both physically and socially, from the rest of the city. It begins by investigating the particular problems of Collyhurst. Whilst Collyhurst is close to the city centre geographically, Manchester has grown further and further apart from it economically and socially. Though the city council advertises its investment in the area, it is visible that nothing is being done. The situation that the inhabitants are in is worsening. The area is ripe for urban renewal. The project aims to create a crime-free, pollution-free, independent and healthy society in Collyhurst. The programme is the development of a hybrid Urban Farm/ Youth Centre. This concept focuses on bringing back the youth and addressing the needs of young people with a view to integrating them into the community. The shape of the chosen site and its intended user base of young people, inspires a practical design concept of interlocking the spaces within the main building, creating constant visual connections.
