BOGA LAKE
The Paradise on Earth
Boga Lake, the most amazing sweet water lake of Bangladesh, is 67 kilometer from Bandarban district HQ and 20 kilometer from Ruma Thana HQ. Its height from sea level is nearly 380 m. The pristine water of the lake gives the tourists a feeling of freshness. Boga Lake is locally recognized as the Lake of mystery because of the local myth that the Lake was created when the local villagers of the Khumi tribe killed a god which again appeared in the form of a dragon and caused an earthquake which made the hills to break and crumble forming the Lake.
Chattogram Hill Tracts
The area surrounding of the Boga Lake is full of green because of abundance of the green trees scattered all over the place. There are hills, small and big in size, rocks and cliffs which together create the illusion of a massive static wave covering the whole surrounding area. The young people love this place for trekking and adventure. Boga Lake is indeed a wonderful place for tourists from all over the world to visit and enjoy its natural beauty.

Bihanga means... ...a bird in Bangla. It is often used in literary writings. As Biman Bangladesh Airlines is being reborn, reinvented and soaring to new heights, we felt this was the most symbolic name for Biman’s new in-flight magazine, and so will our customers.

For the outbound flight from Dhaka, all the foods are carefully prepared by the Biman Flight Catering Centre (BFCC). Canals of Venice
Spread across 118 small islands, a ride along the canals of Venice is a perennial favourite amongst travellers. Although you can walk around most of Venice, some parts are accessible only – or certainly more quickly – via the water buses called ‘vaporettos’. The vaporetto is Venice’s primary mode of transportation and is perfect for crossing the wider canals. While there, make sure to travel across the Grand Canal, which measures two and a half miles long and 16 ft deep. Being one of the largest and most important canals in Italy, it connects most of the famous landmarks in Venice.

Zipline in a jungle
Mae Kampong, Thailand, marks the spot of one of the world’s first zipline parks, where more than four miles of wire weaves riders through the heights and depths of the Thai jungle. Located an hour east of Chiang Mai, the Flight of the Gibbon is over 2,600 feet in length. In addition to sky-high dangling, expect to test your might as you cross two hanging sky bridges and rappel two descents throughout the course. As a reward for a day among the treetops, a classic Thai meal is served al fresco. While there you can also learn more about the rainforest and the people who live nearby.

Wear proper shoes – since your feet will be hanging in the air most of the time, you will want to wear shoes that don’t slip off easily (definitely no flip-flops).

A safari in Sundarbans
The largest mangrove forest in the world is a mist-shrouded, river-riddled swamp region of shifting tides, man-eating tigers and off-the-beaten-track adventures. Though the Sundarbans is surrounded by two of the most densely populated countries on earth – India and Bangladesh, it is remote, forbidding and largely uninhabited by people. This is a true wild terrain and chugging along its river channels into its swampy heart is as thrilling as it is serene. The star attraction here is the Royal Bengal Tiger. Around 400 of these magnificent creatures call the Sundarbans home, making this the largest area with a concentrated population of tigers.

Hike the Acropolis
The Acropolis is one historical site you can’t miss. The term ‘acropolis’ means upper city – many city-states of ancient Greece are built around an acropolis where the inhabitants could go as a place of refuge in times of invasion. It is for this reason that the most sacred buildings are usually in the acropolis. It was considered to be the safest place in town. Go early in the morning for some mesmerising views .

Eiffel Tower at night
Every evening, the Eiffel Tower is adorned with a golden coat and sparkles for five minutes on the hour, every hour. The spectacle was unveiled on December 31, 1985 by Pierre Bideau, an electrician and lighting engineer and consists of 336 projectors equipped with highpressure, yellow-orange sodium lamps. This illumination, which has been met with popular, worldwide success, was the starting point of a nocturnal revival of monuments in Paris and other cities of France and the world. The beams of light, directed from the bottom towards the top, illuminate the Eiffel Tower from the inside of its structure.

be on your to-visit list here include the Ananda temple that is over 1,000 years old and is built like the Nandamula Cave in the Himalayas. With a stunning golden gilding, there are four Buddha statues of the four ages here - Kakusandha facing north, Konagamana facing east, Kassapa facing south and Guatama, facing west. Dhammayangyi is the largest temple in Bagan while Mahabodhi is a smaller replica of the famous Bodhi temple in Bodh Gaya. Mandalay (Clockwise from above) Mingun Pagoda in Mandalay; Boating in Inle Lake; Royal Palace in Mandalay
Jan - Feb 2019
A bustling city where the markets and trading communities jostle for space with the Buddhist monasteries, Mandalay is a cornucopia of experiences. Located on the eastern side of the Irrawaddy river, this place is home to the Royal Palace of the Konbaung Dynasty and is named after the 236-metre high Mandalay Hill, a popular tourist haunt. The Second World War damaged both the city and the palace quite extensively and has since been reconstructed. As the cultural centre of Myanmar, this is where you can see some fine and exquisite examples of Myanmar masonry. The Maha Muni Pagoda here is among the most holy and well known of all the pagodas in Mandalay, and has a statue covered in gold leaf. The Teak Monastery is

The best time to go to Ratargul is during the monsoon when the water level of the river is higher than usual and the forests are rain washed. Going in drier months does not make the place any less beautiful though. If getting mud on your shoes is no problem, the forests are ready to welcome you round the year. The forest swamp is home to more than 70 different kinds of plants in two layers. Snakes, worm snakes, mongoose and monkeys can also be seen. Birds like doves, heron, kingfishers and kite birds are seen ruling the water and the skies while visiting birds like Cotton Pygmy Goose and vultures are often seen in winter. A building tower inside the forest gives you a bird’s eye view of the entire area. Drink in the sights and smells of untampered nature here. Going back requires a different route. Make your exit to Goain Ghat, take a CNG to Jaflong and thereon, a bus to Sylhet.

understands how essential it is to promote cultural diversity and protect linguistic heritage for all ethnicities. In spirit of this, it has been celebrating the International Mother Language Day on February 21 every year. Thanks to the 1952 Bengali Language Movement there is growing understanding of the importance of multi-lingual institutions and the necessity to provide literature and education in one's mother tongue. Been in practice since 2000, the public holiday is celebrated with grandeur in Bangladesh. Also called Shaheed Dibosh, on this day the Martyrs Monument is decorated with flowers, social gatherings and literary competitions are held in honour of the Bengali language. The people here also

draw rangoli on roads. The idea to dedicate a day in celebration of one's mother tongue was promoted by Bangladesh and accepted in the 1999 UNESCO General Conference. Set upon a 14 foot high stage the Shaheed Minar Monument in the country was established in 1952 in memory of the movement for the assertion of Bengali national identity. The Bangladesh Government also established the International Mother Language Institute (IMLI) in Dhaka in November 2015 to promote right to education, linguistic diversity, cultural pluralism and understanding. In 2014, the Bangladesh Heritage and Ethnic Society of Alberta (BHESA) instituted the Ekushey Heritage Award for this day, to recognise outstanding achievements in fields such as education, social work, and community service. Further, a month-long Ekushey Book Fair is held annually to commemorate the language movement of 1952.

is commonly said that Bangladesh is a land where there are 13 festivals in 12 months. Bengalis will agree to this fact and quite unapologetically too. Festivals that were held sacred as prayers in the primitive society are now celebrated

Fast fact
Nobanno Utsov is primarily celebrated in paddy-harvested villages. Granary doors and husking pads are tied with ropes of newly made hay, believed to bring good luck. Rituals like Gurir Haat, Baoni and Pitha Parab are part of the festivities.

of the Bengali calendar, Agrahayon is a month of celebration and rewards for the farmers of this land. This is the time when the “aman” rice crops are ready for harvest and the farmers can see the fruits of their labour in the final form. A hefty crop signifies food safety and wellbeing for their family in the coming year. The crop is then celebrated with aplomb during Nobanno Utshob. Tasty food is prepared from the harvest of the new crops and sent out to friends and neighbours. Happiness is shared and multiplied among children when fairs are arranged in villages with local vendors selling goodies and sweet snacks. Women participate in pitha (homemade Bengali sweets) making competitions and immortalise the scenes of happiness onto cloth, making Nokshikatha or traditional sheets of cloth with stitched artwork on them. other language. Like Egyptian hieroglyphs, it speaks of tradition and deep-rooted culture of the farmlands of Bangladesh. The highlight of this festival is, however, the food. There is a range of pithas that are made with the newly-produced rice and rice flour. From floury, fried, sweet dumplings to pastries filled with coconut and jaggery, to mounds of fried dough balls drenched in sugar syrup and gallons of sweet milk, the festival has the power to take your taste buds to cloud 9.

In the recent years, Nabanno mela has come up as another tradition celebrated annually on the 1st of Agrohayon in Dhaka under the Jatiya Nabanna Utshab Udjapan Parishad. People gather at Rabindra Sharabar and other prominent locations to celebrate the Nabanno tradition. They greet this day with folk songs and dance and wear traditional clothes and jewellery. Dummies of farming equipment like ploughs are constructed and different varieties of paddy is brought for display to give the urban setting a rural turnaround for the day. The festival gets a lot of encouragement from the cultural enthusiasts of Bangladesh. Poets, singers and artists are attracted to these festivals and fairs as they serve to keep the old traditions and cultures, which are at risk of being forgotten, alive.

Dhabi's historic landmark Qasr Al Hosn recently entered a new phase in its extraordinary history. On December 7, after a decade of meticulous conservation and renovation, Abu Dhabi’s oldest heritage site, parts of which date back to the 1760s, re-opened as a museum. “Al Hosn reflects the richness and diversity of Emirati cultural and historical treasures. Its opening represents a new phase in Abu Dhabi’s cultural plans, which reflect the unique features that characterise our society and drive our people towards greater creativity,” said, HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, Undersecretary of Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi. The Qasr Al Hosn site comprises of four interrelated components: the historic Fort by the same name, the National Consultative Council building, the Cultural Foundation and the House of Artisans. The site's masterplan is divided diagonally into two areas with distinctive identities: the past and present. On one side, the Qasr Al Hosn Fort has been reinstated in its original coastal desert, while

Qasr Al Hosn
The oldest and most significant heritage site in Abu Dhabi city, Qasr Al Hosn encompasses two iconic buildings: The Inner Fort, which was built around 1795 to protect the settlement of Abu Dhabi established on the island in the 1760s, and The Outer Palace built in the 1940s. The inner fort has been witness to Abu Dhabi’s vibrant history over the past two centuries and had previously been home to the ruling family, the seat of government, the consultative council and the national archives. Now transformed into a national monument, Qasr Al Hosn narrates the story of the city’s development from a settlement reliant on fishing and pearling in the 18th century to a modern, global metropolis of the 21st century. The exhibition at the Inner Fort traces the many historic events that formed the settlement of the Abu Dhabi island, it also has displays showcasing everyday life in the fort of that time and how this historic landmark was once both a ruling family home and a busy administrative centre. The Outer Palace was constructed by Sheikh Shakhbut bin Sultan Al Nahyan in the 1940s. The rooms display stories of the people

is Australia’s largest city and extremely popular for its coastal beauty. It is home to the world’s deepest natural harbour while holding within it a historical precinct, lots of shopping arcades, a plethora of food options and beauty that will make an instagrammer’s camera go trigger-happy. Sydney is a melting pot with a wonderful infusion of the old and the new.
Morning
Begin your day with coffee and brekkie, you will need to consume sumptuous amounts for your jam-packed day. There are plenty of options for breakfast, head to Pablo and Rusty’s at 161 Castlereagh St. or to Darlinghurst for fusion meals; you can even simply buy a large cup of coffee and freshlycooked pastry from the Little Marionette

and head to Circular Quay. Grab a seat somewhere and peacefully absorb the morning sun shining down its warm rays. With your energy re-instilled set out to explore the Circular Quay. Take plenty of selfies and make plenty of memories as you walk around the peninsular soaking in views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. You can also catch live music performances at the Quay. The site holds everything that Sydney is famous for. At a certain spot on the peninsula of the Harbour stands Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair. It is an exposed sandstone rock cut into the shape of a bench. Sit on the chair for a regal feel and to get the best panoramic view of the entire site. Sydney’s CBD (Central Business District) holds all of these together for you, along with plenty of food options nearby from push-carts to restaurants like French Riviera or Mr Crackles.
