Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, home to the sacred Triveni Sangam or confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers and the mythical Saraswati, is hosting one of the world's largest spiritual gatherings — the Maha Kumbh Mela — this year. For over a month, a temporary city emerges, attracting millions of pilgrims, akhadas, ashrams, and foreigners. The celebrations are traced back to the legend of 'Samudra Manthan', where the gods and asuras (demons) churned the ocean of milk, from which emerged a pot or kumbh of amrit (nectar) to make them immortal.

THE THRIVE APPROACH EMPOWERING PARENTS, ENRICHING CHILDHOOD!

Dr. Manimekalai Mohan, founder of SSVM Group of Institutions, is a visionary educationist and parenting coach dedicated to empowering families and shaping future leaders. With a passion for holistic learning, she advocates emotional intelligence and resilience as key to a child’s success. In this exclusive interview, Dr. Mohan shares her transformative insights on Thrive Parenting, offering practical guidance to redefine modern parenting and nurture confident, future-ready individuals.

Why do you advocate for Thrive Parenting over traditional methods?

As both a parent and educationist, I’ve observed that traditional parenting often emphasises correcting behaviour but overlooks a child’s emotional and mental growth. Thrive Parenting shifts the focus to holistic well-being, prioritising understanding over control. By validating emotions and guiding with empathy, parents create a safe space where children feel valued and respected. This approach fosters independence, resilience, and emotional intelligence, shaping confident individuals ready to thrive. Parenting is a shared journey, and Thrive Parenting makes it deeply rewarding.

How does Thrive Parenting help build resilience in children?

Resilience is essential for every child, and Thrive Parenting puts it at the

of Institutions, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu

forefront. It’s not about shielding children from failure but teaching them to tackle challenges with optimism and courage. When a child struggles, this approach celebrates their effort and helps them find solutions. Parents who model resilience inspire the same in their kids. Open conversations, small wins, and problem-solving nurture a resilient mindset. In my years of mentorship, I’ve witnessed children thrive when empowered to face life’s ups and downs confidently.

What makes Thrive Parenting transformative for the parent-child bond?

Parenting isn’t about control — it’s about building trust and understanding. Thrive Parenting strengthens the

parent-child bond by fostering emotional security. When parents are available and empathetic, children feel safe to express themselves. Simple changes, like saying, “I see you’re upset; how can I help?” instead of dismissing feelings, make a huge difference. Positive discipline, rooted in love and consistency, replaces punishment. These meaningful steps create a respectful bond, shaping emotionally strong, confident children ready for lifelong excellence.

How does Thrive Parenting encourage a growth mindset in children?

Children are naturally curious and eager to grow. Thrive Parenting nurtures this by turning challenges into opportunities. When children focus on effort over outcomes, they build confidence and perseverance. For instance, if a child struggles with a school project, praise their problem-solving process instead of focusing solely on the final product. This helps them see value in learning and persistence. Thrive Parenting also reframes failures as learning moments, fostering a growth mindset. By modelling resilience ourselves, we show children that no dream is too big to achieve with determination.

What’s the secret to mastering Thrive Parenting?

Mindfulness is a powerful gift parents can offer their children. In today’s busy world, it helps families slow down, stay present, and manage stress effectively. Simple practices, like deep breathing during anxious moments, teach kids to handle overwhelming emotions with ease. Mindfulness also deepens the parent-child bond, fostering trust and understanding through meaningful interactions. It’s a bridge that connects us to our children’s world while teaching them balance and focus, ensuring families don’t just survive but truly thrive together. Let’s raise future-ready leaders by being mindful mentors and honest friends, not just caregivers. Remember, it’s not about perfection but presence, connection, and growing together.

IN DUBAI IN DUBAI GAME ON GAME ON

F or Indian cricketer and Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya, travel is all about striking the perfect balance — fuelling his curiosity to explore it all without the fear of missing out.

He was 2024's seventh most-searched athlete on Google across the globe and made headlines throughout the year. After reclaiming the title of World No. 1 all-rounder in T20I cricket (as per the International Cricket Council rankings), it can safely be said that 2024 belonged to the swashbuckling Hardik Pandya!

The Big Win

For the Gujarat-born cricketer, the most memorable moment of his cricketing life was when India won the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. “The moment will stay with me forever – my first World Cup win. It’s unparalleled to anything I have experienced. Lifting the trophy with the boys, supported by the energy from the fans, was unreal. We worked so hard as a team, and to see everything come together on the biggest stage was special,” says Pandya.

Recalling the final match, Pandya describes it as a rollercoaster. “I remember standing on the field, soaking in the pressure, and

saying to myself, ‘This is why we play the game.’ When the last wicket fell, and we realised we’d done it, I couldn’t hold back,” adds the cricketer.

Pandya first rose to prominence with a knock of an unbeaten 61 runs off 31 balls for the Mumbai Indians against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2015 IPL tournament. Soon, he made his way into the Indian cricket team. Recovering from a serious back injury, Pandya achieved his best form in 2024.

But it was a humble start for Pandya. He fondly reminisces the days when he and his brother Krunal used to cycle to the local cricket ground. “We didn’t have much back then, just one kit bag between the two of us. He’d carry it on the way there, and I’d carry it on the way back,” he says, smiling. “Sometimes we didn’t even have proper gear like shoes or gloves, but we never let that stop us. The love for cricket slowly became bigger than any challenge we faced,” he recalls.

Love for Dubai

“My all-time favourite is Dubai. It makes for a quick getaway. It’s very welcoming and has the perfect balance of luxury, adventure, and relaxation,” he says.

Cricketer

Pandya recommends three favourites: skydiving, desert safari, and visiting Hatta, a Dubai exclave. “Hatta is hidden in the desert but is an oasis of joy. It is a must-do for families,” he says. Once a quaint mountain town with its historic fort and desert farms, Hatta is now an adventure hub with hiking, camping and trekking. Pandya also suggests spending a night in the desert. “I’ve experienced the vastness of the night sky with my son – nothing short of an adventure for him and one of my best times,” he says.

Favourite stadiums

Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It’s more than just a ground; it’s home. The cheering and the passion of the Mumbai crowd – in India colours or the blue and gold of the Mumbai Indians – is unmatched. I also love Kensington Oval in Barbados because we won the World Cup there. The Melbourne Cricket Ground is another one. The place is so iconic that playing there gives me goosebumps,” he says.

Destination Choice

For Pandya, his choice of travel destination depends on whether he’s travelling with family or solo “My son chooses our vacation spots! Also, the fastest travel time and the comfort of travel are very important,” the cricketer points out.

“I love travelling in style and enjoying the finer things in life, whether it’s staying in a luxurious resort, dining at the best restaurants, cruising on a yacht, or a bit of adventure,” he says, adding, “If I’m in a new place, I want to experience everything it has to offer."

Travel Bug

“I am essentially a traveller on holiday. When I’m on vacation, I like to plan my own itinerary,” says Pandya. The key, he feels, is to understand what you enjoy doing the most and take all the learnings.

Travel Essentials

“The right attire can light up my mood and help me enjoy my trip. Add to it a few fits from my Hardik Pandya Collection, sneakers, and hats and it's perfect! I love accessories, so sunglasses, my signature chain, a watch, and the right perfume are a must,” he says.

Abu Dhabi K

My first trip outside India was to Abu Dhabi and it was here that I truly discovered the universal language of food. The city’s vibrant souks and spices felt like home, yet uniquely different. The warmth of its people and cuisine created an instant, unforgettable connection.

Ever since I opened my new restaurant Pincode in this beautiful city, it feels like a second home! The restaurant isn’t just about bringing Indian cuisine to an international audience — it’s about telling a story. Each dish here honours the diverse regions of India while embracing the local Emirati inspiration. It’s a blend of my roots and the city’s essence.

The journey from being a curious traveller to now being part of Abu Dhabi’s culinary fabric has been incredible. Abu Dhabi taught me that food is not just nourishment — it’s a connection. I hope to create memories for others, just as this city has created for me.

Istanbul

DIstanbul has a special place in my heart, a city where discovery feels endless. No matter how many times I visit, there's always something new to explore.

The way Istanbul effortlessly bridges two continents and two vibrant cultures, is nothing short of mesmerising. To truly understand Istanbul, one must dive into both worlds — its storied past and its contemporary flair. From the majestic splendour of Topkapi Palace and the peaceful calls to prayer drifting from the Blue Mosque, to the bustling bazaars and stylish cafés, Istanbul offers an experience like no other.

I was there with my family recently, and we stayed in an old traditional house right next to Hagia Sophia. It was my first time experiencing the city’s historic essence, away from the usual crowd. Each morning, we wandered through the narrow lanes around Sultanahmet Camii (Blue Mosque), taking in the aroma of roasted chestnuts, often losing our way only to stumble upon hidden gems. Exploring Istanbul is more enriching when you read about the city beforehand. As an Elif Shafak fan, I’ve always admired her ability to intertwine Istanbul’s history in her stories. Her novel The Architect’s Apprentice offers a fascinating glimpse into the city’s architectural legacy. Similarly, Dan Brown’s Inferno brings to life the stunning Basilica Cistern, a 6th-century labyrinth.

Bucket list

Take in the sights of Istanbul from the water on a Bosphorus (Bosphorus Strait) cruise. The view of the skyline, dotted with domes and minarets, is unmatched — especially at sunset.

What to eat

Sample simit (sesame bread) and Turkish tea served in an elegant glass. Also relish local preparations such as piyaz (salad), and saksuka (vegetable dish), among others.

Must Do

Visit Basilica Cistern, an underground reservoir with towering marble columns, apart from the exquisite Archaeological Museums as well as Galata Tower that adorns the skyline.

Pro tip

Walk along the cobbled streets of Balat, one of Istanbul's oldest districts, dotted with colourful buildings, some of which are almost 200 years old.

SA beautiful landscape is a source of joy, but it can also be a healer. I felt nature's healing powers for the first time on a recent trip to Mauritius. With its pristine beaches and lush greenery, Mauritius feels like a balm for the soul. In 2024, my husband, Ritesh Krishnan and I visited this paradise for a concert, and we returned feeling calmer and more at peace.

We stayed at the Maritim Resort & Spa, which has a stunning beach view. Every morning, Ritesh and I would sip our coffee while listening to the waves lapping against the sand — it was a tranquil experience! The ocean stretched to meet the distant mountains, a view

so serene that it felt like nature’s gentle embrace.

Exploring the nearby Balaclava Marine Park was unforgettable. A boat ride took us to vibrant coral reefs, and even though I am slightly scared of water, the experience of seeing a kaleidoscope of marine life was exhilarating. You can also snorkel here for stunning views.

The sunsets were pure magic. One evening, my husband, my bandmates, and I gathered at the beach as the sun dipped below the horizon. We stood ankle-deep in the gentle waves, chatting and laughing. It was effortlessly relaxing — a moment of pure bliss.

Mauritius

Warm People

Rao says, "The warmth and hospitality of the locals made the trip even more special. May be the happy land makes its people so warm and welcoming. I was showered with so much love and so many gifts, including a beautiful hand-drawn sketch by a local artist, that it didn’t feel like my first time in Mauritius."

What else

Meet giant Aldabra tortoises, known as the world's second-largest tortoise species, at Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark.

Pro tip

As an avid traveller, I enjoy discovering new destinations across the world. Whether it's cityscapes, wilderness spots, or anything in between – the joy of ticking off places on my wishlist is unparalleled. Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) is one such place — once a dream, now a cherished memory. This hidden gem in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), feels like stepping into a time capsule. Once a hub for ancient traders, its landscape is dotted with forts, museums, and watchtowers, whispering secrets of a rich, storied past.

With its strategic location near Dubai and rapidly growing infrastructure, it is becoming a popular spot for both leisure and business. The upcoming casino in the region (set to launch in a couple of years) will only add to the excitement!

When in Ras Al Khaimah, it's hard to pick what I like the most — there’s adventure, culture, cuisine, and more. Just like a blockbuster film!

A man-made wonder, Al Marjan Island is stunning. It's dotted with luxury resorts and beaches, but not many pay attention to its remarkable architecture and vibrant vibe. The drive up to Jebel Jais is also breathtaking, with panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and desert. I love walking along the waterfront, soaking in the views of the sea and the city skyline.

Singapore

SIt was a flight ticket from London to Singapore in 1995 that changed my life! At the time, I was wrapping up my Master's degree at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and my scholarship had come to an end. I was at a crossroads – pursue a PhD or take up a job. I chose the latter.

I had secured an interview with a prestigious London-based investment bank, but I received another interview invitation on the same date, from a not-so-well-known investment bank in Singapore. However, the position I was being offered by the latter was unique and promising! They had also sent me a first-class flight ticket and a three-day stay at a luxury hotel. I took the flight and landed the job, which paved the way for me to flourish in the finance market over the next 22 years.

Back then, Singapore had just become a first-world country. It was an interesting experience, as it still had the feel of a remote outpost. After the interview, I was taken out by my interviewers and tasted my first bowl of laksa! Thanks to that flight ticket, I became one of the first-generation economists in the global finance market!

Phuket

Thailand is synonymous with adventure sports, vibrant nightlife, and thrilling jungle treks. But beneath this adrenaline-fuelled exterior lies a gentler side — a realm of serenity and soul-soothing beauty. And for our babymoon, that’s exactly the side we sought to explore in Phuket.

This island paradise, known for its postcard-perfect beaches and emerald waters, became our sanctuary for reflection and reconnection. Mornings greeted us with the soft glow of sunrise over Kata Beach, where gentle waves kissed the shore as we strolled barefoot, savouring the stillness. Afternoons were reserved for relaxation, lounging by the water, sipping on fresh coconut water, and soaking up the unhurried rhythm of island life.

A visit to the Big Buddha provided a profound moment of peace. Standing before the majestic statue, its calm gaze seemed to echo our prayers for strength, wisdom, and boundless love for the journey ahead.

As the day faded into twilight, Phuket revealed its vibrant yet comforting charm. The lively night markets buzzed with life, yet their warmth felt cosy. We wandered through the stalls, selecting a tiny trinket — the first gift for our baby. One magical evening, a sunset cruise across Phang-Nga Bay enveloped us in awe as we drifted past dramatic limestone cliffs glowing in hues of gold and orange. Floating there, we dreamed aloud of the life we would create for our little one.

Phuket proved to be more than a destination. It was a serene pause before life’s greatest adventure, a place where calm embraced us and left us ready for the future.

The Power of Solutions: A Visionary’s Perspective

In a world brimming with millions of minds, each seemingly equipped with similar resources and intellectual faculties, why do only a select few ascend to the pinnacles of greatness? This question, which gripped my curiosity as a young boy, has remained the cornerstone of my introspections. What separates a visionary leader from the masses? Is it the wiring of the brain, or is it something far deeper—perhaps an insatiable quest to find meaning and purpose?

As I have journeyed through life, one realization has crystallized in my mind: success is not the absence of challenges, nor is it the avoidance of problems. Rather, it is the audacious pursuit of solutions. Great leaders are not those who lament their circumstances or remain stagnant in the face of adversity.

They are individuals who, with relentless tenacity, illuminate the path forward. Thomas Edison, for instance, brought light into a world engulfed in darkness—a testament to the transformative power of innovative problem-solving. What distinguishes extraordinary individuals is not merely intelligence or ambition but a mindset steeped in ingenuity and resilience. They perceive obstacles not as insurmountable barriers but as opportunities waiting to be unlocked. This paradigm shift—from problem-centric thinking to solution-oriented action—is the fulcrum upon which true leadership balances. It is this ability to trans-form

challenges into stepping stones that makes visionaries stand apart. Interestingly, success itself is a concept that defies uniformity; it is kaleidoscopic in its interpretations.

For some, it manifests in personal achievements, while for others, it lies in their contributions to society. However, the universal constant remains the same: success is born of action. The passive observation of problems achieves little, but the courage to ideate, innovate, and implement defines those who make a mark on history.

At The Camford International School, I have endeavored to cultivate a culture that embraces this ethos. Our mission transcends traditional education; we aim to nurture minds capable of envisioning solutions to the challenges of tomorrow.

We inspire our students to engage in critical thinking, embrace adversity, and approach life with an entrepreneurial spirit. It is my firm belief that the ability to solve problems—both big and small—is the ultimate hallmark of a truly educated individual.

To those who aspire to lead, my message is unequivocal: greatness is not an accident but a deliberate pursuit. Choose to see beyond the problem. Harness the latent power of your imagination and channel it into actionable solutions. History remembers those who dared to envision a better world—and had the courage to make it a reality. Let your journey not be one of mere existence but of purpose, innovation, and impact.

Our mission transcends traditional education; we aim to nurture minds capable of envisioning solutions to the challenges of tomorrow.

For many, the snowy Andes or Alps top the bucket list for ski adventures. However, Georgia's gorgeous Caucasus Mountains offer a rival experience — perhaps even better! With lesser crowds, serene slopes, affordable skiing, and warm hospitality paired with the world’s finest wines, Georgia stands out. For off-piste enthusiasts, Georgia’s winter escapes primarily include Gudauri, Kazbegi (Stepantsminda), Mestia, and Bakuriani.
