Set against the vibrant backdrop of SSVM World School, this three-day event from September 1 – 3, 2024, promises to be a melting pot of innovation, inspiration, and impactful initiatives. Celebrating more than 25 years of educational excellence, the SSVM Group of Institutions has curated a lineup of speakers, workshops, and awards designed to inspire the future leaders of India.

This year's theme, "Resilient Today, Sustainable Tomorrow," encapsulates the essence of the conclave. It's a call to build resilience across all facets of life – mental, physical, emotional, and environmental – to create a sustainable future for all. Among the many highlights are the Inspirational Guru Awards, which recognize the tireless service of 25 dedicated teachers, and the Studentpreneur Awards, designed to fuel students' entrepreneurial spirit.

To delve deeper into the vision of the Transforming India Conclave, we have had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Manimekalai Mohan, the dynamic founder of SSVM Institutions. Dr. Manimekalai continues to shape the minds of countless young individuals.

From thought-provoking sessions to hands-on workshops, every aspect of the conclave aims to empower the participants.

The Inspirational Guru Awards and the Studentpreneur Awards are unique conclave features. Can you tell us more about the impact of these awards in the previous editions?

Both awards have been incredibly impactful. The Inspirational Guru Awards recognize the dedication of teachers who go above and beyond in shaping the future of their students.

The Studentpreneur Awards, on the other hand, have given students a platform to show their entrepreneurial ideas These awards have fostered a culture of innovation and excellence within our community.

With such a diverse lineup of speakers and workshops, how do you ensure the conclave remains relevant and engaging for all participants?

We carefully curate the lineup to include different topics and experts from multiple fields. This diversity ensures that there is something for everyone, regardless of their interests. THREE SECRETS OF Abu Dhabi

F rom an ancient oasis to a land of singing dunes and a sci-fi sustainable city, here are some of the best-kept secrets of Abu Dhabi.

AL AIN: Whispers of Antiquity

Shaded pathways winding through a maze of palm trees, sunlight filtering in through matted leaves reflecting on swiftly flowing streams, as birds pick up a soothing orchestra. Just 90 minutes from the bustling heart of Abu Dhabi, this is the ancient world of Al Ain Oasis, a spot of serene green in a desert. Known as the Garden City, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the world's oldest permanently inhabited settlements. Beneath Al Ain’s sands, flows an underground tunnel system, which was originally engineered to channel water from the neighbouring mountains over long distances. This ancient irrigation system or falaj (aflaj) is one of Al Ain's most popular attractions. Old palaces and forts dot the area and there's even a charming camel market and vibrant souks (markets) selling authentic Emirati crafts, spices, carpets, perfumes and more. Explore the Qasr Al Muwaiji fort, now a museum. You can also visit the Al Qattara Arts Centre.

RUB’ AL KHALI: Dance of the Desert

Approximately 250 km from Abu Dhabi city, near the Saudi Arabian border, lies a dramatic landscape, interspersed with date palm groves and tall sand dunes. Once the ancestral home of the Bani Yas tribe, this is Liwa Oasis, a dreamland perched at the edge of the magical Rub’Al Khali, also known as the Empty Quarter or the land of the singing dunes! Said to be the world's largest uninterrupted desert covering an area of about 650,000 sq km across UAE, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Oman, Rub’Al Khali is a shimmering expanse of golden and red sands. Despite its seemingly lifeless topography, the landscape's intense and almost dramatic silence is shattered by a loud, rumbling sound that almost seems musical!

Renowned traveller Marco Polo described this phenomenon as

"the sounds of all kinds of musical instruments." It is produced when the sand grains rub against each other, a phenomenon that can sometimes be heard from afar! Scientists say this sound is caused by the resonance of the dunes and can also be experienced in other desert regions across the world, including California’s Kelso Dunes and the Singing Sand Dunes of Dunhuang, China.

Further into the desert, Tel Moreeb in Al Dhafra, reputed to be the world's tallest sand dune at 300 m high and inclined at 50 degree, is popular among motorsport enthusiasts. At its base, a large complex hosts camel racing events featuring striking black camels. For a more relaxed experience, tents adorned with intricate traditional patterns offer a glimpse into local life and customs.

MASDAR CITY: Futuristic Force

Picture yourself in a sci-fi metropolis, where sleek, solar-powered, driverless pods whisk you around! This isn’t a scene from a science fiction film but the cutting-edge reality of Masdar City in Abu Dhabi. Launched in 2008, Masdar City, spread across a six-square-kilometre expanse, aspires to be the globe’s most sustainable urban environment.

Masdar City blends traditional Arabic aesthetics with modern architectural innovation. At the core of this eco-city is a commitment to sustainability - in 2022, the eco-city reduced its energy demand by more than 38 per cent as compared to international baselines. As you stroll along shaded pathways or glide in autonomous pods, the city’s striking futuristic buildings captivate you with their sophisticated design. Each structure is also crafted to minimise heat absorption.

A standout feature is the wind tower, inspired by the traditional Arabic wind tower, barjeel. A cool breeze blows through the city, keeping the temperature around 10 degrees cooler than central Abu Dhabi. Don’t miss the sprawling Masdar Park, which offers something for everyone — from a children’s playground and artistic installations to a musical wall and the Estidama mosque. For sports enthusiasts, the Al Mamsha trail is perfect for cycling and running.

SONU SOOD

He is a tough guy with a heart of gold, exuding enviable energy beyond the silver screen, with genuine admirers in India and beyond. Actor, philanthropist, and entrepreneur Sonu Sood stands out from the rest.

Movies & Charity

As an actor, Sood has showcased his talent in a number of memorable blockbusters, including Dabangg, Singh is Kinng, Happy New Year, Jodhaa Akbar, Shootout at Wadala, and Simmba. His work

FALLING IN LOVE N

Kaza

For actor Sonu Sood, a recent solo biking trip to Kaza helped him rediscover two old passions.

spans across box office hits in Hindi, Telugu, Chinese and English films. But his philanthropic efforts are equally well-known. He emerged as a beacon of hope during the Covid-19 pandemic, winning millions of hearts by generously aiding those in distress. “Philanthropy happens 24X7 and 365 days a year. My parents taught me to stay grounded, be honest in my work, and ensure no one feels uncomfortable around me. They always said that the blessings of people would help me achieve my dreams. My life is a testament to these golden words,” Sood says.

Sood’s memoir, I Am No Messiah, chronicles his acting journey and his community service. He is also thrilled about his directorial debut, Fateh – in which he stars alongside Jacqueline Fernandez – slated to be released this year.

Mountain Love

It's common knowledge among his fans that fitness is a crucial part of Sood’s life, but his passion for mountains and biking is less widely known. He rediscovered this love during a recent solo biking trip to Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh. “I have been visiting Himachal Pradesh since childhood, but my recent trip to Spiti Valley, especially Kaza, stirred something profound within me. It was a surreal adventure, and I am planning to return there with my family,” says Sood. “Although I have filmed several movies in Himachal, this was my first visit to this valley. I went alone, enjoyed my outdoor workouts amidst the mountains, and breathed in the crisp, fresh air. Gazing at the peaks and stunning landscapes allowed me to reflect in the stillness of nature,” adds the actor.

An avid biker during his engineering college days in Nagpur, Sood explains that this trip allowed him to reconnect with his old passion for two-wheelers. “The thrill of manoeuvring the motorbike across the challenging Himalayan terrain was extraordinary. Navigating the narrow roads flanked by mountains, stopping by rivers and canals, and racing ahead was a magical experience,” he says. “I had planned to ride for only five to seven kilometres, but I ended up on the bike for seven hours straight! It took me back to my college days,” he says.

Aside from nature, Sood also spent time with the locals. “The people in Kaza are incredibly warm and welcoming. They would quickly serve hot rotis and vegetables at their dhabas. Sharing food that they prepared with so much love in the cold weather was an indescribable feeling,” he reminisces.

Fitness

It's important to stay fit if you want to travel and explore. If you want to make the most of your time in Kaza and explore the terrain on foot and bike, you need to work on your fitness.
