February is surely turning out to be a month of hope with the availability of vaccines for Corona virus and the large-scale vaccination drive taking place in India. IndiGo is honoured to have the opportunity to contribute to this drive by transporting the shipments across several locations within the country.

Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness. Desmond Tutu

The world is getting back to normalcy and to facilitate travel further, IndiGo has Leh, Agra and Kurnool as the new domestic destinations to strengthen its regional connectivity. The February issue of HELLO 6E also exhibits this hope through its articles. Visiting open green spaces will be preferred by travellers in the coming time and in our NowBoarding section, the article talks about open spaces of Tel Aviv. Scenic drives is the topic

of our OffBeat section and the Vignette takes you on a photo tour of tea pots from across the world. Wave Energy is the new big thing and the GreenIntention section throws light on this subject. With a glimpse of some IndiGo destinations, the issue also exhibits five different ways to explore the country of Qatar.

best books on travel

Here is a list of five best books that will surely inspire you to travel the world.

THE ART OF TRAVEL by Alain de Botton The book serves as a reminder of the how and why when it comes to hitting the road. It gives a philosophical look at the ubiquitous but peculiar activity of travelling ‘for pleasure’, with thoughts on airports, landscapes, museums, holiday romances, photographs, etc. The book mixes personal thought with insights drawn from some of the great figures of the past.

THE ALCHEMIST by Paulo Coelho The book tells the enthralling story of an Andalusian shepherd who wants to travel in search of treasure. But during his adventures, he finds himself, instead. It highlights the journey that matters—a journey of lessons and charming stories of snakes, love, dunes and alchemy.

LANDS OF LOST BORDERS: A JOURNEY ON THE SILK ROAD by Kate Harris A delightful memoir by the author about a year spent cycling the Silk Road, the book contemplates some questions such as where do you go when you feel that every place on earth has already been visited by millions before you? Is there any place left to discover? The narrative is peppered with explorers, poets, artists, and scientists.

BLUE HIGHWAYS: A JOURNEY INTO AMERICA by William Least Heat-Moon Big cities draw the majority of tourists, but smaller towns have just as much to offer, according to author William Least Heat-Moon. His book focuses on places around Upstate New York that you might not find on every map. Intrigued by the little towns, it is the perfect travel story of an average guy visiting average places and having extraordinary experiences.

INTO THE WILD by Jon Krakauer The book examines the true story of Chris McCandless, a young man, who in 1992 walked deep into the Alaskan wilderness and whose SOS note and emaciated corpse were found four months later. It talks about the obsession which leads some people to explore the outer limits of self, leave civilisation behind and seek enlightenment through solitude and contact with nature.

Green Intentions

NOT JUST

WAVES Renewable energy is a widely talked about topic in the contemporary world dominated by fossil fuels. A classic example of renewable energy is wave energy.

50

February 2021

The energy harnessed from the ocean or sea waves is known as wave energy. It is essentially power drawn from waves. When the wind blows across the sea surface, it transfers the energy to the waves. The rigorous vertical motion of surface ocean waves contains a lot of kinetic (motion) energy. The more strong the waves, the more capable it is to produce power. The captured energy can then be used for electricity generation, power plants, desalinisation of water and pumping of water into reservoirs. The energy output is measured by wave speed, wave height, wavelength and water density.

51

Did you know?

Advantages It is an endless resource. It is a completely clean energy source. It does not emit dangerous greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere. It can create exponential growth and numerous green opportunities to remote areas. It can help to reduce a country's overdependence on fossil fuels. Disadvantages It is not easy to harness power from a wave generator plant. This is the reason that there are very few wave generator plants around the world. From a technical point of view, operating in the ocean is far more difficult than on land; building offshore wind installations. Also, a plant near the shore affects the marine ecosystem.

Oceans are storehouses of gigantic energy conveyed by the sun rays to the oceans. Types of waves Wave energy is, essentially, a condensed form of solar power produced by the wind action blowing across the ocean water surface. When the wind blows across the surface of the water strongly, it creates waves. Long, steady waves that flow endlessly against the beach are generally formed from storms and extreme weather These waves travel throughout the conditions far away. The power of expansive oceans without losing a lot storms and their influence on the of energy. However, when they reach surface of the water is so powerful the shoreline their speed reduces. And that it can cause waves on the when these waves strike the shoreline, shores of another hemisphere. The they discharge huge quantities choppy waves that rise and fall very of kinetic energy. This energy is quickly, are created by a nearby converted into electricity using a wave weather system. These waves are energy converter (WEC), essentially, a usually newly formed occurrences. power station. Harnessing energy Oceans are storehouses of gigantic energy conveyed by the sun rays to the oceans, with the waves transporting the conveyed kinetic energy across the ocean surface.
