rtists Gan Golan and Andrew Boyd have set up a Climate Clock in Manhattan’s Union Square. On September 17, the ten storeys high clock began counting down from seven years, 103 days, 15 hours, 40 minutes and seven seconds, displayed in red. It has been done to make the world realise that human civilisation is on a deadline
to prevent planet-wide climate disaster. If greenhouse gas emissions continue at their current rate, then when the clock runs out, the average global temperature will be irreversibly on its way to 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit above pre-industrial levels. At the same time, the countdown also shows that we still have time to take action.

Cashless payments have kicked off in India, growing faster than many other countries around the world. According to data from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), digital transactions in India increased by 55% in 2019, compared to 48% in China and 23% in Indonesia. While there are many reasons for this increase, the government too has played a crucial role in promoting digital payments. In a country like India, which has primarily been a debit card market, the significant shift in people’s choices is healthy. Today, more and more Indians are using credit cards for everyday spends. “The number of credit cards issued stands at 47.0 million in FY19, having grown at a CAGR of 20.0% over the last five years and is expected to grow by 25.0% from FY19 to FY20," said a draft prospectus filed with the Securities
and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). So it becomes imperative that you choose the right card for your purchases. Understanding Credit Cards Before choosing a card, it's important that we know the things that we should be careful before we opt for any credit card. First let's decode the most talked about point of any card - the reward earnings. You’ve seen the commercials: Celebrities hold a shiny credit card and talk about the 10X or 5X rewards you can earn on purchases. What they may not talk about is the effective earn rates in these communications. The earn rate is the amount of cash back, points or miles you receive on every rupee you spend with your credit card. So we should know what is
13
beneficial for us: earning 20 rewards point where value of a reward point is `0.25 or earning 10 rewards where the value of a reward is `0.50 each or earning 5 rewards worth `1 each. The next most important point to consider is the minimum transaction value threshold. Let's explain this with an example and how it will impact your overall earnings. We take the earnings to be for every `100 vs earnings on `150 and `200. If you do a transaction worth `148, the one holding a card with `100 threshold will earn rewards, but the ones with threshold `150 or more won't earn any. Now, let’s assume we have three cards A, B & C to choose from having same effective earn rate of 2% per ` 100 spend.

The Redemption Redeeming your reward points can be done in a number of ways, and it depends on the methods offered by the bank/co-brand partners. Currently, the most number of cards available offer limited airline seats for redemption in each flights. Restrictions like blackout dates, booking to be done seven days before departure, etc add to the woe of card holders. Another major restriction with most cards is that they ask for minimum number of points to be eligible for redemption. For example, if you want to purchase an air ticket worth `4,500 but you have rewards points worth `4,000, you won’t be able to redeem. Are you looking into these issues when you're selecting your credit card? Not really, right? IndiGo Initiative Keeping in view the need of the hour, IndiGo has partnered with HDFC Bank to launch a first-of-its-kind ‘Ka-Ching’ credit card. Powered by Mastercard, it comes in two variants, 6E Rewards, the base variant and 6E Rewards XL, the premium variant. So what makes them different from other cards available in the market? Well the clear communication of 1 6E Rewards value being `1 and a minimum threshold of `100. Sounds exciting? What about redemptions? Redeem your 6E Rewards on IndiGo without any restriction of dates, value, threshold or seats. Customers can redeem partially 1000 6E Rewards worth `1000 for a ticket of `4500 on the same day of travel. What else do we need!

In December 2019, the Wallace Collection presented Forgotten Masters: Indian Painting for the East India Company. William Dalrymple, Exhibition Curator, said: Forgotten Masters showcased the work of a series of extraordinary Indian artists, each with their own style and tastes and agency, whose brilliance has been frequently overlooked until now. These masterpieces combined Indian and European influences to create rich, hybrid works which reflect the cultural fluidity of this period in India’s history.

Duel Action Fasten your seat belts as we take you on a 360 degree ride through two IndiGo destinations. Standing tall in the two secondary colours of IndiGo, there’s Jodhpur in one corner and Dammam in another.
JODHPUR
DAMMAM
History lesson
Built during 15th century by Rao Jodha, Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest forts in India. The Fort exhibits some of the finest palaces and preserves in its museum many priceless relics. It offers a panoramic view of the Jodhpur city.
Tarout Castle and the Old Town is the most stunning example of the archaeological landmark which is located at the centre of Tarout Island for the past 5000 years. Its historical significance and the ancient look of the place is truly breathtaking.
The foodie tales Deep fried in ghee and served with spicy thick potato curry, the kachoris are a specialty of Jodhpur. Mirchi badaa - green chilly marinated in gram flour, and deep-fried in oil is another local food that cannot be missed while exploring the city.

Artistic choices Go for a heritage walk and explore the blue part of the city behind the fort which is known as Navchokiya. Spend some time strolling along these quiet streets and discover the stories of valour hidden in the alleys of this historic city.
Visit the beautiful heritage village, close to the Dammam Corniche. It is a castle-like building in vintage condition that exhibits antique Islamic artefacts. Dammam is one of the most ancient inhabited places of the country and the village gives a feel of the region.
Shopping galore Bandhej sarees and dress material are a must buy from Jodhpur. Handmade wooden showpieces and Mojris are popular souvenirs to be collected from the city while on a shopping tour in Jodhpur. Nai Sadak is the main shopping area lined mostly with sari and shoe shops.
Explore the Share Al-Hob Souk which is famous for clothing, jewellery and delicious food. This is a great place to find souvenirs and smell the fresh spices. Do not miss the ornate decorations of the shops.
For adventure junkies The Mehrangarh Fort offers a unique opportunity to go zip-lining with Fort as the backdrop and stunning views of the Blue City along with an aerial experience of two desert lakes and the Rao Jodha Eco Park.
Situated between Dhahran and Dammam highway, King Fahad Park is the largest park in the Eastern Province. It has a number of waterfalls, artificial lakes and various kinds of activities which include the huge rides for adults and small and fun rides for kids as well.
Recommendation: Dammam Corniche offers a gorgeous scenery with beautiful sandy areas and green spaces. The Umaid Bhavan Palace is a striking landmark of the city of Jodhpur with an unbelievable collection of vintage clocks and cars.

RENEWABLE ENERGY
NEED OF THE HOUR
54
October 2020
Technological advancement in all spheres of life has taken human existence to heights of comforts and convenience. This progress is marked by an increased usage of energy in day to day life. From primitive man to modern technological man, the usage of energy has increased to as much as about 115 times. Where are we heading? The primary sources of energy are invariably fossil fuels, like coal, natural gas and crude oil derivatives like petrol, diesel, etc., which are also called conventional energy sources. The release of concentrated energy contents of these fuels is possible through combustion – in simple language, burning of the fuel, which causes liberation of various pollutants, like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, etc. Large scale emission of these pollutants has raised environmental concerns like Acid rain, Ozone layer depletion, Global warming, climate change and loss of biodiversity. Also, the long-term availability of fossil fuels is a major concern, as they cannot be produced, grown, replenished and used on a scale which can sustain their consumption rate. The solutions to these hazards on existence and sustainability lies in the adoption of environment friendly, inexhaustible energy sources – the Renewable Energy Sources. They are the ones that can be replenished and are extracted from natural processes at periodic intervals. They exist over wider geographic areas, which pave way for energy security, climate change mitigation and economic benefits. There are several types of renewable energy sources:
55
Did you know? DAY TO DAY TIPS TO REDUCE ENERGY CONSUMPTION
FACT CHECK • The oil reserves in India are estimated to last for just 20 years and gas reserves are likely to last for about 36 years. • India is the fourth largest oil consumer in the world. At present, India exports 75 per cent of oil required. • The industrial sector consumes about 45 per cent of total commercial energy consumption. • The transportation sector consumes around 40 per cent of the petroleum products.
• Halogen incandescent bulbs, compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), and lightemitting diode bulbs (LEDs) use anywhere from 25-80 per cent less electricity and last 3 to 25 times longer than traditional bulbs. • Use natural light as much as possible. • Always unplug unused electronics. • Recycle or donate your old electronic gadgets and equipment.
Solar energy - The conversion of energy from sunlight into electricity Wind energy - Harvesting wind to generate power through windmills Hydro energy - Converting the kinetic energy, produced by falling water into electricity. Geothermal energy - The heat created by the Earth can be used as a source of energy in many ways. Biomass energy - Biomass contains sunlight stored in the form of chemical energy. Biomass fuels include straw, wood waste, wood, sugar cane, manure, and other by-products produced from different agricultural processes.

Sun is the basic source of energy on Earth. India is bestowed with rich natural resources. There is high potential for utilisation of renewable energy from various sources – wind, solar, biomass, small hydro and cogeneration bagasse. Recently India has witnessed a nationwide as well as global thrust on Renewable Energy utilisation. With the help of indigenous developments in the field, India can step forward towards self-reliance in Energy Sector. It calls for transformation of Renewable Energy utilisation from fashion to style and from style to life-style. Let us all play our own important role in that transformation !!!
Corporate Social Responsibility - IndiGoReach
Employee Volunteering
Making a difference Employee Volunteering in our CSR activities is one of the strategies where we encourage employees to generously give their time, experience and talent to reach out to communities. Our employees have always come forward enthusiastically to support communities in need. One such recent activity was the celebration of the “ International Day of Charity. Our employees, maintaining all safety norms, reached out to children and provided them hand sanitizers, masks, gloves and other stationery items. They visited Bosconet Shelter Home in
Mumbai and SOS Children's Villages of India in Kochi, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Kolkata locations. In another such initiative, making volunteering accessible to all colleagues, we recently launched the e-employee (online) volunteering program. Through this program, our employees would get an opportunity to e-volunteer and mentor children from underprivileged backgrounds. Employees would have the flexibility to select mentoring opportunities in line with their skills and interests. This would create a win-win situation for both the mentors (employees) and the mentees (children).
