Bihanga means... ...a bird in Bangla. It is often used in literary writings. As Biman Bangladesh Airlines is being reborn, reinvented and soaring to new heights, we felt this was the most symbolic name for Biman’s new in-flight magazine, and so will our customers.

10 Dream flight for 30 underprivileged children
One of the favourite funs of Sohel Rana, an underprivileged kid growing up at government children family in Mirpur, is to run to the rooftop and see airplanes whenever he hears sound of jet engines. It is indeed one of his dream to onboard an airplane to see how the earth, the clouds look like from the aircraft. "It's like a dream come true. Now I know how earth and clouds look like from the airplane. Thanks all who gave me the opportunity to get the experience of having a flight," he expressed his joy after having a round flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines of DhakaSylhet-Dhaka. Biman, the national flag carrier, recently arranged a joy flight for 30 under privileged children. The children from government children family of Tejgaon and Mirpur went to Sylhet in the morning and return to Dhaka in the afternoon by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight operated by 737 Boeing aircraft. After landing at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet, the pilot of the flight Nawshad Ataul Qaium greeted the children emerging from the cockpit and had pictures with them. Before returning to Dhaka, the children visited a Lakkatura Tea Garden and Mazar of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) in Sylhet. After arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Biman's Managing Director and CEO A M Mosaddik Ahmed received the children and gave them Eid dress as a gift. Biman Bangladesh Airlines took the initiatives as part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR).

The Houses of Parliament are officially known as the Palace of Westminster. London is full of pubs associated with artists, writers and poets. Big Ben is not the name of the clock, but name of the bell that is inside the clock. The London Underground is known as ‘the Tube’.

forbidden Hampstead Heath, it serves as a pretty impressive alternative. Many councils ban barbecuing in public to prevent scorched earth, so make sure you check before lighting up in a park or open space. Postman’s Park near St Pauls was originally a popular lunch spot for nearby postal workers, and is now home to the Watts memorial, commemorating those who have given their lives to save others. Lincoln’s Inn Fields in Holborn once held duels. Nowadays, you’re more likely to see picnicking lawyers in the largest square in London. More centrally, Soho Square is tucked in behind Oxford Street, or get respite from Covent Garden and the Strand in Victoria Embankment Gardens.
On the field
London’s many tennis parks offer people free on a first come, first served basis; however, the bigger parks might charge you. The Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre hosted the 2012 Wheelchair Tennis, and has six outdoor courts that can be booked. Greenwich Park have also had their six hard courts refurbished for 2015. You’ll also find courts in local parks like Hackney Downs.
The city also has a mix of pools, ponds and lidos to choose from, with the Serpentine Lido and Hampstead Heath Ponds being the most well-known. People looking for fun in the water can visit Kayaking London. It runs both day and night paddling experiences, which is a novel way to see London Bridge and the House of Parliament from the water. If the river isn’t your thing, visit some of London’s more sheltered areas, like Shadwell Basin or Surrey Docks, where you can hire canoes and kayaks.

Always popular with the summer dating crowd, you can hire rowing boats or pedalos at Hyde Park, Regent’s Park, Battersea Park, Finsbury Park, Victoria Park and Dulwich Park. Ally Pally even has boats shaped like dragons, swans or cars if you want to unleash your inner child.

of the southeastern districts of Bangladesh, Bandarban is crowned in green glory with steep rolling hills. Some of the most pristine and unspoiled bits of beauty bestowed by nature can be seen here. In the delta land of this country, Bandarban is a respite, known for hills and creeks and also the unique ethnic communities. It is also host to the three highest peaks of the country, about 1,200 metres and so on average.
Diversity at its best
Bandarban is one of the least populated districts of Bangladesh where about 15 out of 27 indigenous communities native to Bangladesh can be found in the hill tracts. Largest of these is the Marma group, and there are also Tripura, Khyang, Mru, Khumi, Chakma and others. These

communities are unique in their way of life, even though the main characteristic is tribal society based on agriculture and a rich heritage of handicrafts. The people are very hard working and generally kind and welcoming. The largest portion of the indigenous are Buddhists, with significant number of Christians and animists sprinkled in. So, in Bandarban, near Balaghata, is where you will find the country’s largest Theraveda Buddhist temple – Buddha Dhatu Jadi. It is a serene spot to contemplate a while, admire the many life-size and larger golden Buddha statues. It sits atop a hill about 200 feet higher than the surroundings, and is also a great vantage point for absorbing the scenic beauty abundant all around.

One highly admired activity here is a boat trip in a sampan or a regular boat down the River Sangu. Also, try tasting various kinds of tribal cuisine.

Bawm handicrafts like hand-woven baskets, rugs and fish-traps can be found and purchased from local shops at the Bawm Market.
Picturesque views
In a land with plentiful monsoon, mesmerising waterfalls are no surprise. Some of these are a bit difficult to access and require treks through shallow streams. Locally known as jhorna and khum, the most commonly visited are the Rijhuk jhorna, Nafakhum or Remakri fall, Jadipai jhorna, Amiakhum and Shoilo-propat. Of these, the Shoilo-propat (the rocky fall) is just four kilometres from the Bandarban town, on the road to Thanchi. It is a developed tourist site maintained by the government’s tourism body. It hosts a small market for the local craftsmen to peddle their wares. The waterfalls are notorious for being moody belles of nature, reducing to low flows every year until the monsoons replenish them.
Natural goodness
Another serene attraction of the region is the Boga Lake, which happens to be a crater lake,

created from rain water accumulating in the crater of a dead volcano some 2000 years ago. Local tribe of the Khumi have a legend, wherein the members of the tribe killed and ate a deity in animal form. The angered deity reappeared in the from of a dragon, or a Boga, and brought with it a massive earthquake. The entire mountain shook, the earth caved in, drowning the village, the legend says. Today, small communities of the Baum, Khumi, and Tripura still dot the banks of the lake. The views, however, are breathtaking, with the water taking on a different hue in different weather conditions, and time of day.
Watery course
To speak of Bandarban is to speak of Sangu, the river, a lifeline to the people of the hills. In many remote parts of the region, the only way of access is through a boat over the Sangu and the streams that flow to it, or on foot through treacherous hills covered in jungle. A boat ride to Tindu through the Sangu will take you to the interestingly named Boro Pathor, where the river flows deceptively calm through large boulders. Bandarban even today remains a yet to be explored part of Bangladesh.

LASSie runs the Langkawi island animal clinic
Animal welfare
Founded by Australian expat restaurateur and animal-lover, Narelle McMurtrie, the Bon Ton and Temple Tree resorts, a short distance from Langkawi’s famed Pantai Cenang Beach area, established and fully supports LASSie financially. LASSie was set up in 1994 to receive, rehabilitate and care for neglected, abused and needy animals. The organisation also runs the Langkawi Island Animal Clinic, which is a charity project aimed at the sterilisation of the stray cat population. The sanctuary has a no-kill policy and cares for animals whose age, disposition or disability make them unlikely to find homes. Under the care of in-house veterinarian Dr Tim Lim, these animals are given the opportunity to live out their lives

Helping our furry friends
The next morning we were greeted by Dorothy, a Chinese-Malaysian fitness instructor who volunteers two hours a day to walk and take care of the dogs. We were told that due to local culture and religion, cats seem to have better fate than dogs, as the Prophet (PBUH) is said to have kept a cat and the cat was so beloved that once when the cat was sleeping on his coat, the Prophet cut off the sleeve of his coat rather than disturb the cat’s nap. Before leaving, as a souvenir, I purchased a t-shirt from the Bon Ton gift as token of remembrance of our stay at Temple Tree, Langkawi.

Every
sport teaches you something. Be it selfcontrol or perseverance. However, there is one sport that teaches freedom and complete abandon. It teaches you to trust your instincts and the surroundings to help you ride high- it’s a sport called surfing. Relatively new in Cox’s Bazar, the idea of surfing was born in 2003, when a group of Hawaiian tourists told Jafar Alam, the first surfer of Bangladesh to open up a surf club. The rest, as they say, is history. This club is not exclusive to locals living in Cox’s Bazar; tourists can get entry and surf here as much as they want. “Our waves are the best waves for learning surfing in Bangladesh,” informs an avid surfer Ramjan Mia.
New identity
Children make up the core group of surfers. Many of those who come into the surf club have thus far been labelled as children from low strata of the society. But the moment they enter the club, they become “surf kids” no matter where they come from or what social strata they were born into. Besides giving them

recognition as a bittersweet blessing. It is there and they are grateful, but not near enough. “We are just one surf club and to get noticed by local and foreign sponsors was a success in its own way,” admit the founders. “Our donors and patrons help us a lot, which is imperative to keep the club alive. It would of course be wonderful to receive more of such support from other places. Old surfers got this sport noticed. And now we have the Bangladesh Surfing Association helping us as well.” Today, there are about 70 surfers in the country who do a lot more than simply surfing. They are also actively involved in beach cleanups, teaching ocean safety, swimming and surfing lessons, diligently living up to the motto of giving back to nature. The goal is to create a platform to mentor young people on basic English skills as well as to get them involved into community projects, creating a drug and alcohol free generation that can become future surf entrepreneurs.

MECCA,
famously known as “Mother of Cities” is the centre of the Islamic world and one of the most sacred places for all Muslims around the world. The Hajj pilgrimage is the fifth of the fundamental Muslim practices known as the 'Five Pillars of Islam'. The pilgrimage takes place each year between the eighth and thirteenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Here are a few things you should keep in mind before preparing a trip to Hajj.
Travel agent
To make your journey successful, it is crucial to choose a travel agent who has the detail information about hotel, travel timing etc. Quality of the service and commitment are two important keys to expect from a travel agent. Make sure to ask about the duration of the stay in Mecca and Medina, the distance of your hotel from the haram and a guide who will be constantly present to simplify the journey.

Money
It is advisable to keep both the currency of your nation and Saudi Riyals in your wallet. Carry sufficient amount of currency to cover your projected areas.
Clothing
As Saudi is a hot place, keep airy and light clothes that are comfortable and soothing. Pilgrims can also carry Ihram, a two-piece cotton cloth, which is cool to wear and help in absorption of sweat during Hajj.
Snacks
Sometimes pilgrims need to wait for long hours to be processed. Some snack, fruit and extra water are really useful during this time. Along with this, an extra abaya, Ihram and a pocket size dua book are needed during the stay. (Below) Ritual circumambulation around Kaaba, (right) electronic umbrellas at the Prophet Muhammad Mosque

A good quality luggage with an extremely solid locking system is recommended for Hajj. Always make sure that the suitcase is locked and does not have any money in it. Keep all your valuable items such as documents, money, keys, credit card, etc in the pouch around the waist at all times.

With so many sweet treats to choose from, it sure is difficult to pick the top ten reigning desserts but we shall do our best!

Little doughy balls of a spongy, soft texture, these sweets have become more than dessert for us. It is difficult to describe the surge of joy one feels when this syrupy treat is squished in the mouth. We dare you to stop at just one!
Rasmalai
While a roshogolla and rasmalai are usually confused, rasmalai has a uniqueness of its own. Instead of sugar syrup, these oblong bite sized sweets swim in a thick, milky soup that is a dessert on its own. It is important to scoop a generous amount of this soup onto your spoon along with the sweet for optimum pleasure.

are generously filled with creamy malai and mawa, which seeps into the whole sweet, making it flavourful and yummier than before.
part of tradition, different regions are known for different kinds of sweets in Bangladesh.
Pati Shapta
You could simply describe these as crepes filled with custard. Bite into a rolled up thick and mildly sweetened rice crepe, for a creamy custard surprise made with molasses and condensed milk. The entire deal is topped up with coconut shavings for an additional kick.
Jilapi
Deep fried flour coils with sweet syrup inside, jilapis can be a messy munch. Thin and crispy, or fat and syrupy, jilapi is more of a fun snack Khirmohan A kind of rohsogolla but khirmohan is hard in nature with the smell of elaichi in it. These are fillings made out of cheese and dipped into sugar syrup.
Kalojam It has a similar taste like golap jamun. Kalojam comes in oval or circular shape and is a popular sweet during weddings or festive occasions.

than a dessert. People enjoy it hot, straight from the frying pan into their plates.
Mishti Doi
Yogurt has always been power food. Recently, the west has attached a number of flavours to give it an extra kick. Bangalis got there first, I’ll have you know! Sweet yogurt is a delicacy found in Bogura, north of Bangladesh and is famous in every Bangali household. Served cold, the sweet dish comes in small containers for an individual to-go snack or in traditional earthen pots as family packs.
Balushahi
Looking like mini doughnuts, Balushahi is a confection made up of flour, ghee and a bit of baking soda, of course dunked in a warm sugar syrup. The resemblance to a doughnut is just in its shape, though. Balushahi has a semi-crunchy exterior, often garnished with crushed dry and sweetened dry fruits and a flaky interior. Expect a soft, sweet surprise in the middle of this chewy deal.
Chana Mishti
Chana is fresh, unripened curd cheese. It is made by adding whey to boiled milk, in order for it to curdle. The process is similar to making cottage cheese but the cheese isn’t processed for too long. Sweetened a bit further, this runny, sweet cheese is usually an ingredient for making other sweets but is also enjoyed as a standalone favourite. Lactose intolerant sweet lovers can safely enjoy chana.
Jorda
Sweetened rice cooked in ghee, often with an added yellow food colour, this delicacy is a famous dessert in weddings. The rice is mixed with mawa, cashew nuts and almonds and garnished with raisins. More elaborate jorda platters add bite sized jamun sweets and crystallised pineapple.
Sweet yogurt is famous in every household in North Bangladesh

buildings, litter-free streets and perfectly manicured gardens almost belie its long and tumultuous history – one of a military camp during the Roman Empire, a city besieged by Hungary then the Turks, and a Republic divided and occupied during the Second World War. Vienna is culture-rich yet modern and is full of cafés and beautiful public gardens. The sense of old world charm makes it a delightful pitstop, and also give it a rather peculiar nature. Here's what you can do if you just have 24 hours to stay in this European wonder.

Morning
Begin your sojourn by taking a vintage tram to Volkstheater. The pristine museums and tourist-packing landmarks are all within walking distance from here. You’ll find family-friendly displays and the 29,500-year-old Venus of Willendorf at the Naturhistorisches Museum, as well as the photogenic Justizpalast, Burgtheater and Parliament nearby. The expansive MuseumsQuartier is right behind you. It is home to renowned museums such as the Leopold Museum, with its numerous works by Schiele, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Kunsthalle: a lively array of restaurants and cafés.
72
For a coffee break, head to Café Bellaria, located on a corner of Bellariastrasse. It certainly lives up to the city’s reputation for a great cup of joy. Walk east onto Burgring and wander through gorgeous gardens, from Volksgarten to the smaller Burggarten – home to a Palmenhaus café, ideal for those looking to drink and dine amongst tropical greenery. Viennese coffee houses originated in the 17th century were put on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

For lunch, you can go for Italian food at Pesco, which is a minute walk away from the museums. If you have time, hit the nearby shops for some great selection. Mariahilferstrasse near MuseumsQuartier has all the high-street brands including Zara, H&M, Berksha as well as favourite American Apparel and Brandy Melville. The next street is more bohemian. Along Neubaugasse you can find vintage and independent shops. The street is dotted with lovely cafés too. Visit Café Hawelka – one of the city’s oldest coffee houses, for some coffee and an even greater apple strudel. Take the 15-minute walk to the Wiener Staatsoper for an opera show, or digest your food with a sobering tour of Judenplatz – the city’s historical Jewish district, where a Holocaust memorial is squared off by impressive architectural sights.

Vienna State Opera is one of the leading opera houses in the world. Book the tickets of the show in advance for a superb experience.
danube market
Discover restaurants by the riverside of Danube. Try eating famous apple strudel, schnitzel. One can enjoy flea shopping at the Naschmarkt.
Evening
Another fascinating dose of art and culture awaits as you head northeast to the decidedly loopy Hundertwasser House and Village, designed by the Austrian artist and architect from whom they take their name. Next, make tracks for the canalside Kunst Haus Wien – a museum also designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, with a façade covered in mosaics, glass, wood and a mish-mash of colour. I also recommend you to visit the flea markets happening around the date you’re visiting – Vienna has fantastic flea markets. Also make sure to visit one of Vienna’s other aesthetic offerings: the castle and its gardens. For example, Schönbrunn Castle and its grounds are a staple of any visit to Vienna. Come here just before six to make it to the Lindt boutique. Here you can load up on truffles, and then walk up to the hill-top gloriette for a good view over Vienna. It is a grand and tranquil spot. If you are pushed for time then forgo going inside the castle itself because the tour takes a few hours. Instead, just rest here for a while, before you head back.
