Don’t miss these

Wish you all a very happy new year. 2016 was a fabulous year, despite the dark spell of demonetisation towards the end, all because of our shoppers. We thank each one of you for your support and for the hours that you spent at Select CITYWALK during those tough days. Each such year that goes by and the special memories that it leaves us with, fuels us with a drive to do more and bring you more. There is so much to celebrate and so much to be thankful for.

Dear Shopper,

/team letter

To all things new!

2017 brings with it new hopes and wishes, new beginnings to make and of course, new resolutions to attempt. The spectre of demonetisation still lurks, but at Select CITYWALK, we continue to keep spirits high. That’s because it isn’t just a place to shop, it’s a place where we love to make you feel at home. YOU are always very special to us and to treat you for being so special, as always, in the upcoming months too we have a host of fun activities and events lined up for you. As we said, at Select CITYWALK the festivities last very long. First up, in January we have the International Balloon Festival being held in India for the first time. Make sure you attend it to catch all the gasbags in action. Later the Midtown Rotary (exhibition) will be your opportunity to shop, eat and donate for a cause. New Year after all doesn’t just signify a simple change in the calendar. It is also an opportunity to bring about positive changes in the world around you. Nature and all things earthy are a special focus this month. So gourmet guru Karen Anand will bring to Select CITYWALK her popular farmers’ market where new and natural food products will find a grand platform. At the Asian Hawker’s Market once again, Asian hawker-style street food culture and energy arrive in an al-fresco setting. In the last week of January, we’ll have the Republic Day celebrations. Come, participate and show your love for your country. In February, as the winter chill takes a warm, romantic hue, Select CITYWALK becomes the go-to-destination for all your Valentine’s Day shopping. We’re putting our heart and soul into planning some mushy little things to the last detail as the month of love approaches. Drop by with your love to make him/her feel special. That is our only motivation to love you better. Warm regards, Team Select CITYWALK

Skintillating

Dry skin can rough up your day. Best to have a regular moisture routine. Cleanse your face and try an intense hydration mask followed by an ingredient-packed serum and a moisturiser. Your foundation will apply like butter.

Flushed cheeks

Cheeks often don’t hide the blush of a secret romance. If they do, the key to achieving a natural glow is a pink blush with a hint of warmth. Don’t forget to dab a shimmery highlighter above the cheekbones.

Glam up that glow!, Estée Lauder, `3,300

Muted peach for your cheeks. Sephora, `1,170

This pink blush is all about romance. Dior, `3,750

Loud mouth

If your lips are to seal your torrid romance, they better be kiss-ready. Plump up a pretty pout as preparation, chapped lips are a big NO. Find your perfect shade of V-Day red, pucker up and become irresistible.

Yup, it’s as pink as it gets. Estée Lauder, `1,950

For a pretty red pout. Colorbar, `900 Colour me pretty please. M.A.C, `1,650

Want a serious shot of colour on your lips? Chambor, `995

Nailed for life

Romancing someone involves a lot of hand-holding literally and figuratively, so make sure your talons are looking delectable at all times. From soft and sweet to dark and dangerous to even wild, choose a style that suits your mood and persona. Stripes, graphics, metallics and ombrés - there’s choice galore to lend them character. For the daring, wild nail art is the way to go. You can even try something that appeals to your partner’s tastes. Like a flash of colours if he’s into fun things and a negative space manicure if he’s the brooding type. Negative space manicures, on the other hand (pun intended), are geometric and graphic designs that allow a peak of the naked nail.

Subtle but shiny French tips for the after-hours. Colorbar, `300

This Color Hit nail paint is a partystopper. Sephora, `700

Take the world and paint it bright. Clinique, `1,100

For your blue-eyed boy. Bobbi Brown, Price on request

See me tickled pink. M.A.C, `2,000

Never a dull day with these at hand. M.A.C, `1,100 (each)

Nail it right. Sephora, `700

Grooming

Fuss over facial fuzz

Just a few whisker-deep changes and you’re ready with the ‘optimal beard’ that can not only make you appear slimmer but also add to your face value quite literally!

14

January-February 2017 selectcitywalk.com

Triangular face Triangular or a ‘pear shape’ face is called so owing to its heavy and angular chin. To overcome this, a fuller beard would be recommended, which would disguise the pointed chin and triangular features. You can even go for a trimmed full beard, which balances your narrow forehead and wider jawline. If you wish to highlight your chin, get a goatee to grace your isosceles triangle. For an ‘unserious’ presentation, you can focus on your triangularity with a “petite goatee”.

Round face Full cheeks and round chin? You have a round face. Counter balance it with a masculine beard that makes your face look slimmer and oval-shaped. Grow hair longer on the bottom and shorter on the sides. A trimmed beard with hard lines and sharp edges will do the trick. Avoid bushy sideburns and keep the sides of the beard short. In lieu of a full beard, a goatee is often a good option for a round face. A moustache can also help.

Long Face On a long narrow face, the best style is a beard that keeps the hair on your chin to a minimum length. The longer the beard, the longer your face will tend to look. So, your face requires a beard which is fuller at the sides and shorter at the chin to add width to the sides and help make your face look shorter. Long narrow faces often look good with a two-day old stubble. Stubble styling softens up that long narrow look, making your face look a bit shorter and a little bit fuller. Avoid abrupt changes in length so the shaping is not obvious.

selectcitywalk.com January-February 2017

15

Grooming

/style file

Rectangular face An oblong or rectangular face structure is long but a bit sharp around the edges and with more defined corners as compared to oval. Your beard should be able to make your face appear a bit shorter and angular. This can be achieved with the help of a full-grown but trimmed beard. Rounding out the right angles is crucial to soften rectangularity. Options suggested are the Chin Curtain, Short Boxed beard, Ducktail and The French Fork. Designer stubbles are also for you. Keep the sides fuller, and the bottom shorter.

No Chin face For a face with no chin, creating the impression of an oval face is a bit difficult because there is no definitive jaw bone structure. That leaves the face looking less than masculine. The key is to elongate the face in order to make it appear lean. Stay away from bushy sideburns, and creat some impression of a strong jawbone structure and a pronounced chin. One way is to keep a full beard and shape it to lessen the roundness of the face. A goatee is another go-to option since it brings the focus to the chin and mouth, sort of semi-defining the roundness of the face.

Square face A square face has an angular chin, which is also as wide as the forehead and sides. You should opt for styles that make their faces appear less box-like and more slender. Chose styles that either highlight your angular jaw or soften the look. Keep hair longer on the chin, shorter on the sides to add length to the face. A good bet is a beard with hard lines, a longer or triangular goatee will also highlight your strong jawline.

16

January-February 2017 selectcitywalk.com

Oval Face An oval face structure is characterised by a slightly wider forehead as compared to chin but the length being almost one and half times bigger than the width. An oval face shape is considered the ideal and requires no special shaping to balance facial features. You can rock any look so your beard should be cool and experimental! If you’re still experimental, a bit of stubble/a scruffy beard can work really well. Just don’t let it get too wild, there’s a fine line between relaxed cool and ‘I forgot to shave all week’.

Small Face Any beard you wear on a small face will only make it appear even smaller. In larger, fuller styles, the face would either get lost or appear totally out of proportion. A small face therefore requires small facial hair. It is advised to let go of the idea of playing with facial hair to create any false impressions. Best is to keep the beard at its minimal best to avoid making a disproportionate show of your face value.

Large Face Full beard on a large face can make a large face appear even larger. Small facial hair too will appear out of proportion. The best solution is to grow a full beard and keep it styled and trimmed to make the face appear smaller. You can even go for a larger mustache to balance a fuller beard. selectcitywalk.com January-February 2017

Know your culture India’s favourite retailer that specialises in handloom textiles sourced from villages, can teach you a thing or two about staying rooted. Fabindia does not advertise, and works largely through word-of-mouth publicity. As they say, when you’re true to your roots, your works speaks for itself. Who needs propaganda.

Learn to be organic In today’s age of constant social media presence, the world gets a 360 degree view of each of us. Being natural then is the best strategy, but one which ironically, is the first casualty in our interactions with others. Authenticity is what can be learnt from Innisfree, one of South Korea’s very first all-natural makeup and skin care brands.

The ABC of being vibrant Nature displays incredible diversity. A blue flower in a bed of yellow roses is always “beautiful”. Good Earth flaunts a similar medley of colours, patterns and things. The handicraft brand’s vibrant and earthy designs take you close to nature and teach you to appreciate diversity in life. Joy, sorrow, anger, surprise... life’s a mixed bag indeed...

That lesson in sophistication Back in 1994, it had a waiting list for a nail polish. That’s how coveted a brand Chanel is for real fashionistas. But Chanel’s sophistication and class cannot be achieved in a day. It take years of patient toil and constant innovation. And that’s what Chanel affirms, the importance of creating a classy niche for oneself.

Your out-of-the box portion Quirky is cool. At Nappa Dori cool also becomes classy. With its global quality fine leather goods, the brand elevates coolness to become a class apart. You too find your own little wacky idea and go about stubbornly to lend it an uptown feel through craft and hardwork. That’s doing things the Nappa Dori way.

A course in perfection This is the brand that defines the British shirt. Thomas Pink stands for the “gold standard” of what you make or do and this comes from obsessing over every bit of your work, every minute. It comes from asking yourself everyday, “how do I make it better?” It comes from becoming your own competition.

your global style education Module As barriers come down and the world gets smaller, it helps to have a global world view. But classic values never go out of fashion. And who expresses it better than Hidesign leather accessories, which have won a place of pride among the stylistas with their international feel and classic appeal.

A class in being class apart As the retailer of some of the most sought-after premium watch brands in the world, Ethos’ insight is into luxury. Not the kind you buy of easy money. Depression is an isolating illness that requires empathy more than sympathy as a cure. This is what actor Deepika Padukone aims at doing - helping depression victims live, laugh and love by taking lessons from her own experience.

“T

here is a heavy, leaden feeling in your chest, rather as when someone you love dearly has died; but no one has – except, perhaps, you,” said author Tim Lott, describing depression for British daily The Guardian. In the article written during anti-depression week last year, he addressed the issue globally, urging the world to understand that depression is actually much more complex, nuanced and dark than unhappiness and much more miserable than a series of bad temper moments and mood swings as people see it. Across the world, it is becoming a silent, isolating, slow-moving killer and it doesn’t discriminate! Actor

Deepika Padukone, who is seen as the epitome of success in Bollywood, has battled the evils of depression herself. Trapped in this terrifying state for years, Padukone has had her darker-than-grief days. It was her parents’ support and the right professional help that helped her come out of depression. Fortunately, she won. But many others lack the grit and determination to battle this evil. Some do not have their family’s support, some others just give in. Padukone, in a commendable act of empathy, has decided to reach out to this lot: to others who are caught in a similar dark phase, to listen to them. To help them live, love and laugh.

Home alone In India, one out of every 10 people is afflicted with depression. According to the World Health Organisation, at 36 per cent, India has the highest rate of major depression patients in the world. Yet, the disease remains shrouded in secrecy and stigma. Most psychological disorders are either brushed under the carpet or patients feel uncomfortable opening up about them, choosing to suffer in silence due to the fear of ridicule.

21 March - 19 April

Adventurous Arians can smell a fashion trend from a distance. Pastels, frills, flounces, patterns and lace are not for this woman, who prefers comfort and likes to ruffle a few feathers with her fiery temperament. Fitted trousers, tailored jackets and skirts and structured ensembles are what they seek in 2017, with clean, simplistic lines and fresh takes on trends along with a pop of bold, fiery colour to grab the spotlight. Sporty luxe or sensuous mini confidence with elegance is definitely your poison.

20 April - 20 May

Taurus

For sensual Taurus, fashion is all about comfortable luxury - silk, linen, bamboo and other natural fibres. Bulls tends toward classic colours and lines, with soft and sensual pastel shades this year. Invest in high-quality pieces in soft earth tones that won’t go out of style. Taurus is associated with the neck and throat, so you may show off a chunky necklace or a colourful scarf to add a hint of shimmer to what you choose to wear.

Gemini

21 May - 20 June

Flexible-natured Geminis demand clothing that can move with them all day, or from work to play. They constantly reinvent their look by pairing classics with statement accessories - anything too serious or dark is wrong for the fun-loving, quirky women. You love bright patterns and breezy and adaptable styles - reversible jackets, skirts that double as dresses or trousers that transform into shorts. Put your hands, arms and shoulders on display with a stylish bag, a chunky ring or a shoulder-baring blouse.

As a water sign, it’s no surprise that Cancerians favour pearls, and fabrics that move with fluidity. Femininity is their mainstay, and this year, they celebrate it through outfits in luscious fabrics like silks and satins, with pearlescent colours such as pale grey, silvery white, lilac and smoky blues. Cancerians are sensitive, soft and artistic, so you generally look better in flowy skirts and dresses than trousers, and carrying items that have depth and a sentimental value. Of all the star signs, the crab is most associated with an intrinsic sense of panache. A la Princess Diana, who knew instinctively how to dress exquisitely and never put a fashion foot wrong.

leo

23 July - 22 August

Fierce fashion is bold and dramatic Leo’s calling. One designer outfit beats a hope chest overflowing with lesser threads. This year, seek out colours reminiscent of the sun - gold, yellow, orange and red; and when a funky pattern or texture calls your name, go for it. Forget about big comfy jumpers, sensible shoes and trousers; striking angular shapes and sharp cuts are perfect. Take Madonna, who is a Leo, and creates an impact with her clothes! She wore a conical bra in her 20s and, in her 40s, thought nothing of turning up at a red carpet event in a leotard and very little else.

23 August - 22 September

o g r i V

Refined Virgos prefer lady-like styles and sexy silhouettes. Nothing too flashy or fad-like this year - they stick to basics that serve them well. A fabulous trench coat and a structured and well-fit cotton shirt are must-haves; also, flawless tailoring and elegant clothes with intricate detail. You are thrifty so you will hunt through sales for the ideal hemline. Citron, navy, cream, fawn and other shades that channel her autumn birthday season are perfect. Resist bright patterns, fake fur and novelty jewellery - these aren’t your thing.

a r b i L

23 September - 22 October

Lovely Librans are fashion zealots, drawn towards gorgeous, flowing fabrics and patterns evoking romance. In 2017, you will lean towards super-feminine, soft garments - flowing skirts, chiffon evening dresses and French lace. Fuss-free cuts in muted shades - dark and mid blue, rose and elegant black - are right. Pair silk blouses with sharp shorts or floorlength flowing dresses with simple, flat sandals.

o i p r o c S

23 October - 21 November

For the intense, enigmatic Scorpio, ladylike with an edge is your swag for 2017. Dark blue, red, black are perfect, as are silk, satin and velvet; steer clear of severe lines, tailored suits or hard fabrics. Knee-high boots or a luxurious velvet jacket too will work instantly. Since it is associated with the pelvis, provocative clothing and accessories, such as leather pants, spiked bracelets or a velvet choker, are right up its alley.

s u i r a t Sagit

22 November - 21 December

Athletic Sagittarius rules sportswear, and practical clothes with a relaxed, chic theme are the norm in 2017. Structured trousers or tailored skirts with a silken blouson and fitted shirts will be your signature style. The sign is associated with the hips and thighs, so trousers, leggings, and comfortable slip-on dresses are perfect; though, don’t shy away from showing off your legs in cropped pants or skirts. Supportive shoes are also a must, as they won’t hold you back from chasing down the next big adventure.

22 December - 19 January

Meticulous and thoughtful, the effortlessly sophisticated Capricorn has tailored pieces (blazers, cigarette trousers) and luxurious fabrics (cashmere) are their wardrobe mainstays. In 2017, luxurious separates such as cashmere, silk blouson and tailored black trousers should be the must-haves of your armoire. The little black dress is a Capricorn favourite but steer clear of bright colours and eccentric designs. Green, dark blue, brown or black tailored suits are perfect for your understated elegance.

s u i r a u Aq

20 January - 18 February

Individualistic and independent, Aquarians are a tribe with no rules. Eccentric, unconventional, and expressing themselves through their creativity, this year, they mix things up from different designers or streets for an all-new look. Whether in neon tones, electric blue, fuchsia, acid green or classic white, they must make eco-conscious and cruelty-free choices, and might seek out clothing companies that donate a part of their profits for important causes.

s e c s i P

19 February - 20 March

For dainty-hearted Pisceans, smooth textures and soft fabrics are their calling this year. Sparkling evening gowns, high heels and a touch of glamour is the Piscean style. Wear shimmering colours - silver like Cindy Crawford or gold, reflective white and green. Brash, bold colours and patterns don’t suit you. Your clothes should follow your body’s curves and movement. This sign is associated with the feet, so pick pumps and sandals over heels, boots and platforms to glide and shimmer like a fish through the water.

oneymoon wasn’t named so for nothing. Turns out honey is a food item that kicks the libido. Many such food items, for ages, have been hailed as the super love foods ergo aphrodisiacs. So if you’re on the prowl for a love potion, recipes with these aphrodisiac ingredients will get you in the mood.

Honey Sweet as love, honey is made through pollination and hence is a symbol of procreation. In fact, the word ‘honeymoon’ got its name from mead, an alcoholic beverage made from honey given to the new bride and groom. Honey is a superb source of boron, which helps regulate estrogen and testosterone levels and provides a natural energy boost.

Strawberries Feed them to each other for a healthy, vitamin C-packed dessert that helps keep blood flowing to all regions of the body. Strawberries gained their reputation as an aphrodisiac due to their large number of tiny seeds symbolising fertility. In art and literature, the strawberry was usually portrayed as a symbol of sensuality and earthly desire. Strawberries contain a good amount of potassium, folic acid and some iron and fibre. So they can aid in boosting an otherwise lacklustre libido by providing essential vitamins and minerals needed to supply energy and keep the fires burning.

Oysters

The secret love drug of both Cleopatra and Casanova. Casanova, it is said, had dozens in a day Even now they’re a popular aphrodisiac with a high zinc content that increases libido. The best way to have them is raw and served with some chilled Champagne making it a supremely romantic repast.

Berry Berry Smoothie, Refuel

Basil The aroma of basil has long been associated with arousal. Women used to rub basil powder and oil on their skin to attract men. It is said to boost blood circulation and protect the heart, qualities necessary to charge up the libido! For best results, simply garnish a meal shared with a loved one with fresh basil and let the aroma do the talking.

Avocado Suggestive in shape, avocado was deemed too offensive looking by the Catholics priests of Spain, who forbade its usage. The Aztecs called it ahuacuatl, or the ‘testicle tree’.. All of this aside, avocado is a great booster of immunity and its high levels of vitamin E helps keep the spark alive by maintaining youthful vigour and energy levels.

Almonds Almonds have long stood as a symbol of fertility. Their smell was known to induce passion in women. Scientists now add fodder to the myths by affirming they’re rich in selenium and zinc, both essential for reproductive health. They’re also said to contain huge quantities of Vitamin E, fibre and magnesium. The almond myth holds true!

Figs The fig has been known as an arousing stimulant for ages. The Bible says Adam and Eve covered their body parts with fig leaves. What’s more, ancient Greeks valued figs more precious than gold and many cultures associated figs with fertility. Modern science shows that figs are full of potassium and are an antioxidant powerhouse.

/movie-dom celeb interview

Hits & kisses From the chubby Cheeku who made his cricketing debut as an 18-year-old in 2006, Virat Kohli has come a long way

H

is cool demeanour both on and off the field makes as much a talking point as do his records on the pitch. His casual style and experimental streak are followed by fans across the country and his personal life is stuff of perpetual curiosity. Be it those perfect sixes, the mohawk, the square cut, the beard or the kisses blown off the bat, Virat sure knows how to keep the camera spellbound and the girls swept off their feet. Always. Your sense of style... Be yourself! No matter what you wear and how you look, never forget the real you and stick to it. Never take your clothes too seriously - they are just meant to make you look good! Be confident about what you wear and back yourself up - else, you fall flat. Keep your wardrobe updated with current trends, as ignoring these can be tricky. Is style personal to you or do you believe in following trends? A bit of both. I prefer to mix and match and feel comfortable about my dressing - I think keeping it simple makes you even more stylish. My personal style is best reflected when I am wearing casuals. With suits, I usually look for the latest fits and designs. Is your choice of brands a refection of your style? Pretty much yes. A brand that reflects you will have a better connect and reach with the fans. I am very particular about the brands I choose to get associated with. Your casual dressing My idea of casual wear is a pair of shorts and ganjis. I think men should experiment more with shorts, but only if they can carry off the look. Your favourite formals Jeans paired with a black or a white shirt - I think jeans, when paired up with such basic coloured shirts, work well. Your favourite footwear Personally, I don’t prefer too much experimentation with my shoes; I like white shoes and stick to them. One can perhaps have different shoes to go with different looks - whether formal, casual or party. Your favourite accessories Watches and sunglasses are among the few accessories that men can wear. So, get as stylish as possible with them, by trying these in different colours. Your wardrobe essentials Cool sunglasses, a good pair of shorts, a comfortable t-shirt, good sneakers/ slippers and a roll-on.

Kohli is the brand ambassador of Tissot in India. The cricketer, who mirrors the Swiss brand’s mastery for breaking new ground and its uncompromising commitment to excellence, also oozes style and confidence that make him a youth icon.

Kaabil is the story of a much-inlove blind couple played by Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam. Their tale of dances, dates and conversations takes a sad turn when a terrible incident claims the wife’s life. With slick, stylish action sequences punctuating the husband’s quest for revenge, this is a much-awaited treat for fans of the thriller genre.

The incredible untold story of NASA’s three brilliant AfricanAmerican women who were the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: launching astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored America’s confidence, turned around the space race, and inspired generations to dream big.

Raees Alam (Shah Rukh Khan) is an influential bootlegger in 1980s’ Gujarat. His illegal business and growing political aspirations are challenged by tough cop Nawazuddin Siddiqui. With Pakistani actor Mahira Khan playing the female lead, it would be interesting to watch how Raees manages to reach theatres post the ADHM fiasco.

Get Out

Rangoon

Directed by Jordan Peele, Get Out starts with Rose (Allison Williams) inviting Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) for a weekend getaway upstate with her parents, Missy (Catherine Keener) and Dean (Bradley Whitford). At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behaviour as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.

Vishal Bhardwaj’s adaptation of Casablanca, the 1942 Humphrey BogartIngrid Bergman classic, which in turn is based on the novel Everybody Comes To Rick’s, Rangoon is a love triangle set against the backdrop of World War II. A US army soldier (Shahid Kapoor) comes face-to-face with his exflame (Kangana Ranaut), now the wife of a rich businessman (Saif Ali Khan). The story is about the turmoil of the three characters.

CHRISTMAS DECOR

As always, Christmas was celebrated with much revelry at Select CITYWALK. A huge X-mas tree set up almost touching the roof. The rest of the space too was decorated cheerfully with Santa Claus on a sleigh, snowman, mistletoe and other colours of festivity. The Christmas spirit was captured also in the merriment that went on in every corner.

CHRISTMAS MARKET Christmas is a season of joyous celebration and as usual we took the excitement to a whole new level with our yearly Christmas Market that was set up in the FF Balcony and the outer arena of the mall. This year, the shoppers splurged on designer clothes, bags, accessories, shoes, candles, cakes and other amazing goodies at bargain prices.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTING At Select CITYWALK, we believe in capturing the spirit of every festival with as much sensitivity as it deserves. For Christmas, attention was given to everything from starlit ceilings to magnificent chandeliers, and sparkling lights to the illuminated archways. A huge Christmas ball lit up the lawn, where faux reindeers, candy sticks and snow confetti transported the visitors to the North Pole, almost.

Kids Got Talent Song, dance, acrobatics and a lot of happy faces is how we celebrated Children’s Day. Select CITYWALK was engulfed in fun, frolic and laughter on November 14. Acrobatics by Enthrall crew, A-Capella by students of CSI, music by students of Music Basti and Bollywood dance by students of Moving Soul were some of the performances that shone through the day. Our kids definitely got talent.

Kids’ Christmas Fest Select CITYWALK’s 6th edition of the Kids’ Christmas Fest, in association with ‘House of Secrets’ at the Plaza was a smash hit. During the two-day carnival, kids thronged the venue to eat, shop and play. At Santa’s workshop they participated in various fun activities such as card and tattoo making, met with their favourite cartoon characters and watched Tulsi Jadugar’s magic show.

for the soldiers’ kin This Army Day, on January 15, take a moment to salute the indomitable spirit of our country’s soldiers, who keep India safe as they tirelessly patrol our borders, day and night. Their families must also brave the odds along with them, and this poem, by an Army child, says it all!

Children Of The

Brave Children of the Brave The words glory, valour, sacrifice ring clear. We have seen it all The battles, the transfer, separation and war.

The words unit citation fill us with pride. The extended family will always be our might. Having fired a gun at the age of 5, We understood the true value of life. Our fathers in uniform, Stars on their shoulders, Set ablaze the stars in the universe, Like a mine field gone wry. The stories of hardships in Leh-Ladakh Or the frontiers our soldiers guard, Spreads a melancholy so deep, As sacrifice was a promise they were made to keep. Beautiful was not the option for us, Smart was the priority, they taught us. Crisp uniforms on the hangers were more important than sparkly danglers India’s shoulders rise, when a martyr falls down with pride, Along with a tear that falls from the brave daughter’s eye. Dear Daddy, we say, You taught us to be strong, for hardships build our character. Dear Daddy, you taught us to be strong. So that every fibre in our body represents the strength of steel. And we will do so. We shall swallow our fears and put them to the grave, as we are the children of the Brave. By Ankita Malik XII K, Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan
