The national capital, Delhi is also a city filled with people seeking to experience adventure and thrilling sports. That’s given rise to a lot of adventure camps and establishments that pander to the moods and whims of adventurous Delhiites, offering them a shot in the arm with adrenaline-pumping sports in and around the city’s periphery. There is a plethora of sporty activities that one can take up and have the experience of a lifetime. The adventure sports prevalent in Delhi are rock climbing, zorbing, whitewater rafting, cliff-jumping, kayaking, balloon safari, shooting, paramotoring and bungee-jumping. We tell you how to prep yourselves with the right armoury from your favourite Select CITYWALK. PARAGLIDING If land and water don’t catch your fancy, it’s time to feel the wind beneath your wings with paragliding close by in Gurugram, organised by several adventure sports centres. Hop into a motorised paraglider and feel the thrill whilst you are up in the air. Take to the air in a bright-hued polo tee shirt paired with slim pants from Columbia Sportswear. GO-KARTING For those with a need for speed with some thrilling twists and turns, don’t look too far! Head to the F9 gokarting track in Gurugram. For the uninitiated, a go-kart is a small fourwheeled vehicle made for racing on

So strap on the racing gear and get ready for a speedy but enthralling go-karting experience, and watch that fear - if any at all - fly away speedily! Before your go-karting session, get your hair ironed at Looks, because you don’t want to look messy in those selfies. SEGWAY-ING IN DELHI There could possibly be no better way to see and explore Delhi. Delight in a Segway tour, a great way to explore and understand the rich heritage that India’s national capital has to offer. For the uninitiated, a Segway is a twowheeled, battery-powered electric vehicle. A three-hour thrill ride, this shows you the best that the capital has to offer. Approach an authorised vendor and book your tour now! Segway in style with a classic NIKE cross-back and seamless high-waist training tights.

OFF THE ROAD This one’s for the off-roading junkies! Go off the road on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) ride in Malpura, a few hours’ drive from Delhi. This is a modified three-/four-wheeler that rides on low-pressure tyres and can be driven on any kind of track, preferably on rugged terrain. Get all the lowdown on this from the experts before you kick up some sand. Don a funky Adidas graphic jacket and comfy Adidas ankle pants before you head off the road. ROCK CLIMBING Give this a shot over a weekend at Camp Wild in Dhauj near Delhi. Revel in the experience of mapping the Aravalli mountains and partake in the breathtaking view from atop. to Delhi, has become the place for white-water rafting, which is basically braving the waves of the river head in an inflatable rubber boat. Professional rafters accompany and guide the groups, and they are also treated to some amazing views en route. Ride the waves in a drift tee shirt with lycra leggings and solid waterproof sneakers from Asics. CLIFF JUMPING Picture this: jumping from a height of approximately 40 feet directly into ice-cold water. A watereddown version of base jumping, cliff jumping definitely gives one the chills as you jump straight down into the water. It is fun and adventurous and certainly leaves its mark. Be sure to check your blood pressure before jumping! Take the leap in a fitted tee and leggings from Puma.

12.

ZORBING Another activity that’s definitely meant to get your heart racing is Zorbing. Several resorts near Delhi offer this sport. You get inside an inflated balloon called an orb and you speed down hilly terrain. Rolling, bouncing and hitting the bumps on the way will surely heighten the sense of things. A bit of Jack-and-Jill here, perhaps?! Get rolling with bright or pastel collared tees and three-fourth tights from Lacoste. BALLOON SAFARI This is a more leisurely activity that breaks away from monotony and huge doses of adrenaline, and instead lets you enjoy a ride in the sky whilst contemplating the fastpaced world beneath you. Soar high in a tee shirt dress from Reebok and comfy slip-ons. selectcitywalk.com

#SPORT-INSPIRED FASHION A sport-inspired fashion brand, Onitsuka Tiger, flaunts designs ranging from updated classics to refreshing new styles Iconic sport-inspired Japanese fashion footwear and accessories brand, Onitsuka Tiger is a celebration of Japanese craftsmanship and focuses on sophisticated design and luxury details. Appreciated the world over for its heritage and modern flair, Onitsuka Tiger is a sport-inspired fashion brand that has designs ranging from updated classics to refreshing new styles and collaborations with like-minded artists. 15.

BRAND TALK the spirit of Onitsuka Tiger has uplifted its sports fashion trademark into the fashion and lifestyle scene. The Onitsuka Tiger story began in 1949 when Kihachiro Onitsuka created Onitsuka Co Ltd. Motivated by a lack of self-esteem in Kobe’s youngsters post-war and a belief that fitness was a significant solution, the company took shape. Striving for perfection, innovation was part of the output from the earliest days of the company. A sound mind in a sound body was Onitsuka’s original vision for betterment and it’s still part of the plan. The brand carried on his legacy, heritage and Japanese craftsmanship, combining it with a timeless aesthetic that was discovered on the track. It is now worn and seen on streets around the world. The sophisticated styles and unique and original designs are what make Onitsuka Tiger stand out. Its classic style, Mexico 66 takes inspiration from several classic training shoes including the LIMBER, which was one of the first shoes to boast the Onitsuka Tiger stripes and was later delegated to the national Japanese team at the 1968 Mexico Games. Ideal for urban living, working and playing, it’s stitched with the legendary Onitsuka Tiger stripes.

STYLE FILE

#THE MONSOON LOOKBOOK Stash the summer trends away and wisen up to rainy weather wear. We have chalked out a monsoon lookbook to give you an ever-so-slight nudge in the fashionable direction

The monsoons are here and you find yourself staring aimlessly into the dark depths of your wardrobe wondering how you’ll combat nature’s tantrums when they come a-callin’. The intolerably hot days are gone but they’ve left behind humidity and sudden downpours to deal with. It’s time to give that summer-stuffed wardrobe of yours a splash of a monsoon update. It can be a bit tricky to carry all the flowy dresses especially with all the mud and muck around. We tell you what to opt for instead.

32.

Waterproof sneakers to splash about in

33. The sneaker trend never really left and we can be sure it’s going to stick around during the monsoon as well. How else will you splash about in those puddles with carefree abandon?! Get yourself some cool waterproof sneakers to keep your feet nice and warm all through the rainy days. Keeping your feet covered can also protect them against infections that are rampant during the rainy season.

The statement umbrella

This is one thing you just can’t do without during monsoons. Bright colours, funky designs, quirky styles - there’s an umbrella for every personality type. Even raincoats and jackets are making a comeback. Pick the brightest colours because that’s the mantra this season.

Jumpsuits and rompers have come back

H&M ` 799

Incorporate these in your daily wardrobe. Monsoons are perhaps the best time of the year to flaunt those printed jumpsuits and rompers. They’re light weight, so they don’t take too much time to dry, which makes them the ultimate monsoon outfit. One look at our Bollywood divas and you’ll know how to rock a play suit this season! The list of monsoon must-haves also extends to cute capris, tea-length skirts, culottes, knee-length dresses and cigarette pants. Mix and match these with other lightweight fabrics such as chiffon, silk and cotton tops.Be sure to embrace bright colours to battle the grey skies. Think yellow, orange, red, pink, blue and some mixtures of fluorescent and electric colours.

Swap those fancy purses for funky backpacks

Let’s face it - fancy purses can be a real pain during the monsoons, when you have to carry an umbrella everywhere in one hand. So swap them with a backpack this season. You can even choose a cool transparent one that is waterproof and looks super chic.

A downpour of accessories

ACCESSORIZE ` 2,200 MANGO ` 990

There is no other season like this to splash about in as many accessories as you wish, so pull out that trunk of junk jewellery and put it to work. With the weather so dull, all you need is a pop of colour to brighten your day. Accessories in bright neons will instantly lift any dull outfit. So invest in some bright jewellery and accessories this season.

Stoles, scarves & wraps for an extra zing

It can easily get chilly during the monsoons, especially if you work in a closed environment with the AC on full blast. A funky stole or scarf can save you from the chill, and they look stylish too.

city walker // July-September 2018

Getting drenched in the rain isn’t always as much fun as seen in movies. It can be a complete chaos, especially if you are not aptly dressed and in the right kind of fabrics. So, come along as we pick the right materials for your monsoon wardrobe

36.

#1469 `3,800

#A RAIN-PROOF WARDROBE

STYLE FILE

Watching it pour outside while you sit with your coffee mug indoors is a dream come true. But if you have to step out in the humid weather, you need to smarten up your wardrobe. And the first step is to choose the right fabric - something that lets your skin breathe and is light, but not too sheer. CHIFFON STYLE This beautiful fabric is loved by women of all ages. It dries up in no time, the most important aspect to look for in your monsoon clothing. Also, it provides complete comfort to the wearer by virtue of being lightweight. Avoid long chiffon dresses as they can get dirty and mucky along the hem.

selectcitywalk.com

DENIM, YES, DENIM! You must be thinking we’ve lost our marbles to suggest denims in the monsoon, but wait a minute: denims come in many avatars and some make for a really practical and fashionable choice for the rains — read shorts, dungarees, etc. Denim has the superpower of resisting slush and muck like none other. Pair denims with crop tops or loose tees. And no matter how you accessorise the look (which you must), you will be able to rock this look completely.

#W PRICE ON REQUEST

RAYON TALES Think airy, absorbent, silky and glossy… and the fabric that fits it all is rayon. This fabric feels like silk yet is cool and breathable like cotton and linen. It absorbs moisture easily and does not

#Fabindia `2,290

trap body heat. Printed rayon tops and dresses look fresh in the rains! COMFY COTTONS Easily the most breathable natural fabric, it is reliable and safe for rainy weather; it looks great, too. The trick here is to opt for the right styles in cotton. For kids, cotton shirts or dresses work fine. For the ladies, flowing calf-length cotton dresses are apt as they won’t stick to the body. Bright cotton kurtis and tops are the right choices this season. For office-goers and collegians, dig out your three-fourth length cotton trousers or capris and style them cool. And who can question the classic cotton sari! With this fabric guide for the monsoons, you won’t need to cramp your style one bit!

CLINIQUE ` 2,650

ESTÉE LAUDER ` 2,300 FOUNDATION IS A FOE HERE: It is recommended to not use foundation while working out or engaging in a sport. Use face powder instead.

MASCARA: While using mascaras and eyeliners, opt for only the water-resistant ones, kajal is a big no-no.

1 2 3 4

BLUSH: Cream blushers look gorgeous and they are water-friendly too! Blending is the buzzword. Be sure to blend the blush outwards so that it does not look like a blob of colour on your cheek.

LIPS: Use the long-lasting colour-stay/ non-transfer variety of lipsticks. Keep the really glossy ones for the winters and go for powder matte hues or crème matte shades.

POWDER: This too should be used sparingly, just so much that is necessary to cover the grease on your face and nose.

EYESHADOW: Since creams can melt off the face, stick to powder formulae. Think sheer and pastel. Shades of brown, pink and beige are just right for easy maintenance while gymming.

5 6 7

EYEBROWS: Keep up with your tweezing/threading, but forget the eyebrow pencil for the time being. Instead, put a little hair gel onto a brow brush to keep brows looking shapely.

#SPORTY O STRANDS

The gym may be the place to work on your curves but that’s no excuse to not have pretty curls. We offer you the most stylish hairstyles to sport while sweating it out this summer

40.

selectcitywalk.com

41. Your gym plan is ready. You’ve got all your paraphernalia in place: gym wear, gear, funky shoes and a cool bottle, but what about your hair? Have you thought of how you’ll wear it stylish yet fuss-free? Move past the banal ponytail and add some twists and turns to your strands. 1. THE CASCADING PONYTAIL: This is the simplest, quickest and the easiest of ‘em all, very comfortable and fashionable too. Take it a notch above if time permits by braiding your hair on one side. Take the ponytail, start braiding from the top (near the scalp) and keep going towards the end, maintaining some distance between the knots. Keep them slightly loose so that they curl up at the end. 2. BRAID IT ALL: Kick off this hairstyle by starting to braid at the top, from the front, right above the forehead. Scoop up the rest of your hair and the front braid into a ponytail. Continue braiding the tail - you can wrap a few strands of hair around the band towards the end of the braid for a fancy look.

3. SCHOOLGIRL PIGTAILS: This 15-minute hairstyle involves making two simple side braids. They keep flyways at bay while looking cute, girly and sporty. 4. TOP BUN: This is ideal if you’re looking to let your hair down after a good workout. Gather your hair into a ponytail. Then, keeping your hand at the top of the head, on your crown, start twisting your hair in one direction into a coil. Use your mother’s bun pins or spin pins to keep the bun in place. 5. ONE-SIDED FUN BUN: Here’s another one to keep your strands free of pins and bands. Part hair to the left and gather it all under the right ear. Twirl hair until tight. Hold in place and keep twirling into a bun underneath your ear. Secure with a spin pin. Repeat with more bobby pins in each quarter of the bun, until all your hair is securely put together into the side bun. To up your hair game, visit the Looks and Geetanjali salons at Select CITYWALK. Now, go ahead, focus on those curves!

Watching Sumit Israni do someone’s hair is almost like watching a ballerina perform.. Pure grace and magic… The scissors go snip, snip, under the puckered brow of the man deep in concentration and voila, the last sweep of the hairbrush done, he moves away to reveal a completely new persona.

Is the damp weather depressing you? Here’s how you can pop it up

#GIVE YOUR HOME A FACELIFT THIS MONSOON! Don't let the downpours dampen your spirit, and bring on the upbeat mood. Brew your favourite tea, some fritters are in order too and settle into the lazy boy with your fav book. The pitter-patter of the rains is best enjoyed indoors, especially if you aren’t crazy about puddle-splashing in particular. All you need

is a home that reflects your cozy yet happy mood. Add some wall accents, switch on the mood lighting, bring the blue skies home and kill the greys outside with pops of neon indoors. A scented candle and some extra comfy floor cushions will add to your days!

While some of us really welcome the break from the oppressive heat, others are put off by the lack of sunlight and puddles galore. However, a common woe is the dull and dreary aura that envelopes one’s homes during the rainy season. Here are some quick ways and products to upgrade your home into a vibrant, joyful and positive space!

LIGHT UP THE DARK NOOKS Centered ceiling lighting creates dark corners. Get rid of these with floor lamps - the peripheral illumination brightens the room and your mood.

SENSES AT PLAY Use sound, fragrance and textures to bring a fresh vibe to your home. A bright rug or a throw for your chair? Light fragrant candles for a soft glow and aroma and don’t forget the chimes! THROW IN SOME COLOURS Opt for brightly-coloured cushion covers and throws: yellows and greens are the most apt. Or try bold nature prints to bring the lush outdoors inside.

GROW A GREEN THUMB Well, if we’re going to draw nature into our homes, there is no better way to do this than by growing house plants. Try ornamental flowers, leafy plants, and sturdy cactii to add variety. DECLUTTER AND GO MINIMAL Redo the layout of your home. Move your furniture a little away from the walls so that they don’t absorb moisture and habituate the growth of fungi and bacteria. So, if you’re a homebody, you know how to celebrate the upcoming monsoons.
