CMD’S DESK
From The
Ajay Singh
Chairman and Managing Director
Dear Readers, Welcome aboard SpiceJet! It is exciting to be back. This issue of SpiceRoute is special in many ways as it comes after a gap of two and a half years. Much has changed since the last issue in March 2020, but our commitment to serve and connect more destinations remains. This issue of SpiceRoute is therefore a testament to our resilience and our commitment to deliver the best possible flying experience to our passengers. Much like everyone, we at SpiceJet have been through some very challenging yet exciting times. From transporting essentials and medical supplies on a war footing to evacuating Indian citizens from war zones, the last two years have been a journey like no other. We are proud to have played our role successfully during humanity’s biggest challenge. I would like to share some of the trials, tribulations and success stories of our people as we held each other and our country together through these challenging times. Even as the Covid-19 pandemic gripped the world and India, SpiceJet took to the skies every single day to ferry a record supplies of relief material, medicines and medical equipment to and from wherever was required. With India’s transportation system coming to a virtual halt, we strengthened SpiceXpress, our cargo and logistics business, to carry essential items, medical devices, agriculture products etc. Today SpiceXpress has grown from a $30-40 million a year to a $260 million a year business. SpiceJet’s logistics division played a critical role in ensuring that vital trade routes between India and other countries remained intact. The airline has operated thousands of cargo flights carrying tonnes of cargo since March 2020. SpiceJet played an important role in the repatriation exercise during the pandemic by bringing back Indian and foreign nationals stranded in different countries on special flights. We also brought back a large number of Indian students stranded in Ukraine when the war started by flying to countries and airports that we had never flown to. SpiceJet continues to proudly fly the Indian flag on its tails and in its heart!
To commemorate the historic milestone of administering 100 crore Covid-19 vaccination doses in October 2021, SpiceJet unveiled a special livery to honour the unparalleled contribution of our frontline workers and corona warriors who have worked tirelessly to make this dream into a reality. For all the work we have done during the crisis, SpiceJet has been specially recognised for the stellar role it has played in serving our country. We will be unfolding a series of measures to ensure a seamless and memorable experience for our passengers besides adding more planes to our fleet and ensuring better connectivity within the country. The Boeing 737 MAX – the flagship of our fleet – has successfully resumed service to rave reviews. We are in the process of inducting more MAX planes to make travel more comfortable and reduce our carbon footprint at the same time. On the growth front too, we are well on track and have added Khajuraho, Kushinagar and Bhavnagar to our network. In addition, we have also increased frequencies on popular routes. As our network grows stronger, passengers can look forward to unique and exciting new destinations in India and around the world. We continue to add new products and routes to our network. SpiceClub, our wonderful loyalty program, recently launched a co-branded credit card with Axis Bank. We have launched ‘Sky Mall’ on our in-flight entertainment platform, SpiceScreen, for an authentic in-flight online shopping experience featuring products and deals from leading brands. SpiceScreen also enables our passengers to enjoy Dolby Atmos-enabled content like blockbuster movies and podcasts on our flights. We have re-introduced ‘SpiceLock’, a unique service that allows passengers to lock their desired fare for 48 hours, thus allowing passengers to plan their journey without worrying about fares getting expensive and availability of seats. SpiceJet had the honour of being the only Indian carrier to operate special Haj flights this year. A total of 40 flights were operated with more than 5500 pilgrims undertaking the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. Your favourite airline has also launched a convenient taxi service for passengers at 28 airports including Dubai for a seamless travel experience. There is no parallel to your love and faith in SpiceJet. And that showed in SpiceJet once again recording the industry’s highest load factor (occupancy) of 85.8% in September, 2022. SpiceJet holds the envious distinction of flying with the highest load factor in the Indian skies for a record seven years with a PLF of more than 90% for a record 58 consecutive months. I can’t thank you all enough for this feat. We have completed 17 years of successful operations because of your continued love and faith in us. I would like to take this opportunity to reconfirm our commitment to be steadfast, strong and dedicated in pursuit of excellence for our esteemed passengers and contribute to India’s growth story. Tailwinds and Happy Landings! Jai Hind!

KIIT MAKES BIG STRIDES IN TIMES GLOBAL UNIVERSITY RANKING 2023 The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Deemedto-be-University at Bhubaneswar has made a significant jump in the Times Higher Education’s World University Ranking 2023. The University has been placed in the cohort of 601-800 as against 801-1000 in 2022. The improved performance demonstrates the University’s sustained focus on quality teaching, research activities and a steady rise in its global reputation. KIIT, which was founded by noted educationist Dr Achyuta Samanta in 1997, has planned a series of initiatives to highlight its academic achievements coinciding with its silver jubilee year. Nine per cent of its total student strength comprises foreign students coming from the Far East, African nations and Central Asian republics. The rankings have also revealed that KIIT has fared much better than other legacy institutes not only in Odisha but in Eastern India as well. The Times World University Ranking is widely followed by academia including students in deciding their institute of choice for pursuing higher studies. Teaching environment, research output, citations, industry income and international outlook were among the key parameters that determined the ranking list. As many as 10 researchers of the University and faculty members, some of whom are Padma Awardees are listed among the ‘World’s Top 2 Percent Scientists’ by Stanford University. Academicians, cutting across institutional affiliations have hailed the achievements of KIIT, underscoring the institute’s emphasis on quality teaching and research output. They equally lauded the tireless efforts of Dr Samanta and his visionary leadership to transform the University in a short period into a globally renowned institute. Dr Samanta, however, said the improved ranking was the result of the collective efforts of the faculties, students and staff. The latest ranking aside, the Education Ministry’s NIRF 2022 has also placed KIIT as the 20th-best university in the country, awarding high scores in parameters such as teaching, learning resources and graduation outcome. KIIT was also adjudged as the 23rd-best Indian university in the overall category by the Times Higher Education in its Asia University Rankings for 2022. This was as well a significant jump of seven places over last year. Today KIIT is the pioneer in research and development. The KIIT Technology Business Incubator (KIIT-TBI) is one of its kind in Odisha. It has incubated many business entities out of which 34 have graduated to set up full-scale commercial enterprises. Research and innovation are important hallmarks of a world-
In Focus
class university. KIIT has established 19 Centers of Excellence with industry to promote collaborative research. KIIT Faculty are actively involved in research and consultancy works attracting financial support to the tune of a few million dollars every year. Currently, nearly 100 research and consultancy projects funded by various national and international funding agencies like UBS Promedica Foundation, Switzerland; Karolinska Institute, Sweden; DST, DBT, MNRE, Govt. of India, Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences, etc. are ongoing with substantial budget outlay. As KIIT is celebrating the significant milestone of completing 25 years, it has become a trusted destination for professional education for students from all parts of India and over 65 countries. It has been consistently achieving academic accolades transforming itself into a world-class knowledge hub. The University has countless talents who not only are celebrated names in their respective domains, but they are also contributing to their nation’s growth as successful bureaucrats, entrepreneurs and start-up leaders. KIIT is the first Indian university to get Internationalization Strategies Advisory Service (ISAS) Badge from the International Association of Universities (IAU) which marks the achievement of milestones along the journey of internationalization. The University has the distinction of having the largest number of foreign students on its campus in the State of Odisha. In addition, hundreds of foreign students come to the campus to do internships and various shortterm courses throughout the year. To boost academic, student and faculty exchange, KIIT has established collaborations with over 195 globally reputed universities abroad and secured membership in reputed global educational bodies and associations. The student-friendly policies make KIIT one of the high-indemand universities in India today. It was one of the early ones to adopt the choice-based credit system to enable students to select the course of their choice that matches their interests. Student counselling and research are the other two areas that are given enhanced focus and attention. The sprawling campus is a veritable melting pot of nationalists, cultures and ethnicities. The vastness is manifested in many ways. It has an exciting mix of pupils who come from myriad backgrounds. It enjoys an enviable reputation of having the largest number of foreign students on any campus in Eastern India. And it offers a fusion of unique architectures in every radius block that represents the distinctiveness of the 23 individual non-scholastic extracurricular activities.

POWERFUL VASTU CORRECTIONS WITHOUT ANY DEMOLITION FOR INDUSTRIES, OFFICES AND HOUSES Vastu Shankh yantra ‘ A divine gift from The great Himalayan Saint, Swami Murghanand Ji’
What is Vastu?
Awarded the ‘Best International Vastu Guru’ in Thailand by Bollywood Queen Kangana Ranaut.
‘Awarded in Dubai as the Most Influential Vastu Expert under 50 years of age’.
Vastu is protection against unforeseen circumstances. It is used to increase personal energy in health, wealth and relationships of a person
Internationally Renowned Vastu Expert Vimal Jhajharia, along with his son Vikas Jhajharia, has created a revolution in the field of Vastu Shastra. Their expertise in providing ‘Vastu Remedies without Demolition’ has earned them the faith and praise of millions of people in more than 40 countries across the globe. Vimal Jhajharia and Vikas Jhajharia (MBA from Australia) have delivered many lectures, conducted workshops, seminars and have widely travelled and provided consultancy on major projects already in operation without any changes or modifications. They are currently providing consultancy in the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, South Africa, UAE, and South America, among others. Both of them have been felicitated several times for their outstanding knowledge on Vastu and have also won several awards of national and international repute. Here is an extract of an interview with them and their client testimonials: What exactly is your famous Vastu Shankha Yantra and how cost-effective is it? Based on the principles of Vastu, the Vastu Shankha Yantra is an original conch shell used to potentially rectify any kind of land, Vastu or energy defects without making any modifications. It can potentially save a lot of time and money as it is used to create positive energy in places having major Vastu defects without changing the looks and beauty of the place. Does the Vastu Shankha Yantra really work for prosperity in factories and industries? Yes, we have a big list of successful clients including businessmen, entrepreneurs, doctors, scientists, professionals, architects, interior designers, etc giving testimonials on our website. Endorsing the Vastu Shanka Yantra is industrialist Sushil from New Delhi. He says, “My son and I are running a factory but were not getting the desired results. We came to know about Vimalji and
Vikasji through one of their articles in inflight magazines. Upon showing them the factory, we immediately realised our north was blocked and all the heavy machinery was placed along the north wall. We then got the Vastu Shankha yantras placed at certain places on Jhajhariaji’s recommendation. Now, every new factory of ours is made under their able guidance and we also recommend them to all our friends and relatives.” Can Vastu Shankha Yantra also help in selling a property? Yes, we do a lot of Vastu correction for builders and developers and also individuals whose properties have been stuck for a long time and which are not getting sold because of some or the other Vastu defect. Vouching for success is Satish from Bangalore who was trying to sell his four acres property for two years. When we saw the property, we saw it had multiple corners and it was not a proper rectangle or a square. We then positively charged this property by placing our Vastu Shankha Yantras in various corners to help correct the magnetic field of the property and hence creating positive energy in the atmosphere.

What are the benefits of the Vastu Shankha remedy?
In an office, it is used in the north to increase money inflow. In a house, it is used in the east direction for better health and relationship among family members.

hough not born into a Bollywood family - except distant connections with actors Ashok Kumar and Saeed Jaffrey, who are her step-great-grandfather and great-uncle, respectively, Kiara Advani is currently one of the most bankable female actors in the Hindi film industry. After making her debut with Fugly in 2014, Advani, whose name was Aliya previously, played the role of cricketer MS Dhoni's wife in the biopic on the cricketer in 2016. But what really got her noticed was her portrayal of an unsatisfied wife in the Netflix anthology film Lust Stories in 2018. In the same year, she made waves in South India in the political thriller Bharat Ane Nenu. The year after, Advani was a part of two of the highest grossing Bollywood productions - Kabir Singh and Good Newws. The winning streak continued in 2021's Shershaah. In 2022, the actor has cemented her position with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Jugjugg Jeeyo. Slowly, but steadily, the girl from Lucknow, who, in her own words, "harboured dreams of making it big in tinsel town, but had no clue of how things would be," has become the favourite of producers.

Off the Beaten Track in Nashik 44
History and futurity seamlessly blend in this ancient city. It's a popular tourist destination, yet there are several places that are not so known. A resident draws up a list text: Aditi Pai
L
egends abound about Nashik's history. Lord Rama and Lord Hanumana are believed to have spent some time here. The rock-cut caves of Pandav Leni with inscriptions and intricate carving whisper stories of Lord Buddha, while forts on hilltops tell tales of brave kings. The surrounding landscape, with the rolling Sahyadri range and brimming lakes, is a soothing carpet of green. In the last decade, along with its quaint charm, Nashik has also emerged as the go-to destination for wine lovers in India, and those seeking a quick and serene getaway from the hustle of big cities.

Trip Down Memory Lane
Large darbar halls lined by tall wooden pillars, a museum that displays costumes and armour from the days of royalty and a secret underground tunnel that was used by the erstwhile royal inhabitants to escape attacks from enemies, make a visit to Sarkarwada a walk into the past. Once a mansion of Peshwa rulers, this 18th century monument is being restored to its former glory and the administration is working on turning it into a tourist attraction. For those who want a trip of the unbeaten track, make your way here through the crowded lanes of Sarafa (Saraf) Bazar and step into an era that spoke of all things extravagant.

With vineyards that stretch for acres and wineries — big and small — dotting the landscape, Nashik has won the moniker as India’s wine capital. A visit to Vallonné, a boutique, family-run vineyard, transports you to the countryside, where all you see is vineyards, mountains, lakes and taste good wine. Said to be India's first boutique winery, it produces wellappreciated French-style wines. The four-room hotel that stands at the head of the vineyard and offers sweeping views of the Mukane (Mukne) dam is welcoming with its vintage furniture. The restaurant, Malaka Spice, pairs wines with a Southeast Asian menu. A visit here promises to be all about time standing still as you watch the placid dam waters gleam in the morning sunshine. Wake up to the chirping of swifts, mynahs and kingfishers and spend the day sipping a crisp rosé or a full-bodied and fruity cabernet sauvignon.
Things to Know
Around 25 km from Nashik is Anjaneri hill, said to be the birthplace of Lord Hanumana
What to eat A holiday in Nashik isn’t complete without a taste of the spicy misal-pav, the favourite snack of the city. Misal is a curry-like dish of legumes cooked in a spicy masala mix, often simmered for hours. Dip pieces of soft pav (local bread) in it. Those who have a low appetite for spice can pair it with a bowl of curd. Every eatery has its own spice mix. The current favourite is misal cooked over charcoal flame for a distinct woody flavour. Most eateries offer jalebi (a deep-fried dessert) to calm the taste buds. Go to the Grape Embassy & Zatka Misal, an outdoor restaurant, set in a vineyard, where you can sit under grape vines and dig into misal and sip on juices.

This wetland is called ‘Maharashtra's Bharatpur’ due to its large avian population. An early morning drive to Niphad, around 40 minutes from Nashik city, will offer you mesmerising sights of hundreds of birds. Over 200 species of birds have been spotted and documented at this sanctuary around the Nandur Madhmeshwar Dam. During winter, you can spot migratory birds like mallard, wigeon, pochard, white stork and curlews but it is also home to several local inhabitants like teal, heron, spot bills, black ibis and buzzard.

In Nashik, you are never too far from a lesson in history or a dose of mythology. On the Trimbakeshwar road, is the base village from where you start the trek up to Anjaneri hill. It is said to be the birthplace of Lord Hanumana. There’s an Anjani Mata temple that you can visit once you have completed the hike that takes around three hours. Carry a pair of binoculars to watch the landscape around and if you go during the monsoon months, it is a sight to behold with numerous waterfalls and clouds wafting past. Around 80 km from Nashik is Salher that houses one of the highest forts in Maharashtra (Salher Fort), which was under the reign of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It was the site of the fierce battle of Salher. Legends say that Lord Parshuram did his penance here and there is a temple dedicated to him at the top of the mountain. The trek is beautiful but can be challenging for those with low fitness levels.

Pandav Leni
This is where you go for a slice of history. Dating to a period around 1st century CE, Pandav Leni is a cluster of intricately carved, rock-cut Buddhist caves that have beautiful sculptures and detailed inscriptions. The complex has stupas, prayer halls, viharas and pillars. Some historians say it was a resting place for monks travelling on the trade route and locals say the Pandavas (from the epic Mahabharata) built many of the caves. But apart from telling stories of a bygone era, the caves are also a popular trek for locals and tourists alike.

V
aranasi is not just a city. It's not just a piece of land where people have built homes to reside in. Varanasi is an example of living history. It's an emotion with an ever-changing aura of the past, present and future of humanity. No wonder then that this city celebrates a festival of the gods! Legends say that the day Lord Shiva defeated the mighty demon Tripurasura, who was terrorising heavenly beings, gods descended in Kashi (another name for Varanasi) to celebrate this emphatic victory. They decorated the entire city and banks of River Ganga with millions of diyas (earthen lamps) and paid their homage to Lord Shiva. To honour the victory and to participate in the festival of divinity, Varanasi celebrates Dev Deepawali, or the “Diwali of the Gods” even today. Celebrated in the month of Kartik (15 days after Diwali), the festival sees temples, homes and the ghats (stepped river banks) along River Ganga decorated with thousands of diyas, and prayers offered to Lord Shiva and Maa Ganga.

Thousands of diyas are lit on the ghats of Varanasi during Dev Deepawali
52
Residents prepare for this festival months in advance, with homes and temples being draped in twinkling lights. On the day of the festival, ghats are lined with diyas and as dusk sets, these diyas are lit, their flickering lights reflect in the waters of the river - creating a heavenly spectacle. It seems as if the Aakash Ganga (Milky Way) has descended on Earth. Every step along the ghats and the innumerous temples are lit up with little specks of yellow, and appear like a skyline etched in gold against the dark night sky. On this auspicious day, a large number of devotees participate in the ritual Kartik Snan or a bath in River Ganga to wash away their sins. After the dip, they float diyas in the river as a part of Deep Daan. Ganga aarti (a ritual with lamps), performed in the evening to worship Maa Ganga, is the centre of attraction at this festival. The approximately hour-long aarti involves loud chanting of hymns, blowing of conch shells and beating of drums in a synchronised rhythm. Thousands of residents and tourists gather to watch this spectacle, their voices drowning in the hymns. Yet in all this chaos, there is a sense of peace and tranquility.

This ancient city is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India, attracting visitors not just from within the country but also across the world. But while most tourists visit the ghats and the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir, Varanasi has several other temples and yatras with immense spiritual significance. One of them is the Panchkroshi Yatra, which is based on the concept that Kashi is divided into five sacred territories, and five pilgrimage paths were designed to circumambulate it. Panchkroshi is one of them. The yatra is divided into five parts with a night halt and several temples are a part of it. One of them is Kardmeshwara Mahadev temple, one of the oldest surviving temples in the city. It is said that the Shivlinga here was installed by Sage Kardam. The beautifully-preserved temple is situated by the Kardmeshwara Kund. Another temple is the Bhim Chandi temple, dedicated to the fierce form of Goddess Durga. The yatra also covers the Rameshwar temple located in the Rameshwar locality of Varanasi. It is said the Shivalinga here was established by Lord Rama. In November, an annual fair of “Lota-Bhanta” takes place here, during which devotees offer cooked potato and eggplant to Lord Shiva.

Things to Know Taste Try different types of chaats (flavourful snacks) at Deena Chat Bhandar; kachori-sabji (a deep-fried savoury served with curry) at Shri Madhur Jalpan, both at Godoliya (Gadoliya). Breakfasts are special at Ram Bhandar at Thathari Bazar. Try malaiyo, the mystical winter dessert, near Gopal Temple; khoya jalebi (a dessert) at Chowk, lassi from Blue Lassi at Bhelupur and thandai (flavoured milkbased drink) at Godoliya.

A must-try experience in Varanasi is the evening boat ride. Boats of different shapes and sizes are available and most offer an hour's tour along the ghats, ending with the evening Ganga aarti. Some also serve refreshments on board. An air-conditioned river cruise tour has also been launched.
Must-See Photo by: Saurabh Rastogi
Sarnath, the Buddhist pilgrimage site, is just 10 km from Varanasi. Once there, while you visit the stupas, also spend some time at the Pink Temple or the Sivali Vietnamese Buddha temple, which has a massive idol of Lord Buddha - often described as the most beautiful such idol in India.
Must-See In winter, migratory birds, including the Siberian crane, make a beeline for Varanasi. Birds like northern pintail, reddish shelduck, cormorant, barheaded geese, etc, can be spotted here. As they glide over the Ganga, they make for a unique sight.
Located at Rajghat, near Malviya bridge, the Tomb of Lal Khan is an ASI-protected monument
Another important temple is the Shivpur temple. This temple has five Shivlingas, which are said to have been established by the Pandavas (from the epic Mahabharata). It's adjacent to Draupadi Kund. Another stop of the pilgrimage is at the Kapileshwara Mahadev Temple. The Shivlinga here is believed to have been established by sage Kapil. After passing through Kandwa, Bhim Chandi, Rameshwar, Shivpur and Kapil Dhara, the yatra ends at Manikarnika Ghat. This yatra can be completed in one day on Mahashivratri, while on other occasions, it can be completed in five days by making night halts. But even if you do not want to make the yatra, visit these ancient temples to discover the heritage and history of this centre of spirituality and learning, about which legendary author Mark Twain had said, “Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together”.
Dr. Nishant Mishra He is a Varanasi-based anaesthesiologist and artist. Over the years, he has developed a keen interest in Indian mythology and the unexplored parts of Kashi, which reflects in the website, varanasiguru.com

THE WEDDING EDIT What are Indian weddings without a dash of sartorial chutzpah. Add to that the months of planning that go into making the perfect, shimmering and fabulously fun ensembles. We pay homage to playing dress-up at the big fat Indian wedding with this celebrity style guide
W 56
e have all been in that dilemma, wanting our ethnic fare to be comfortable and for our Western wear to be more flexible. Today, courtesy Indo-Western fusion trends, we can wed the two and create some truly stylish looks. We’ve curated some of the season’s most sought-after looks that we hope will inspire you to take your wedding wardrobe a notch above in the coming months.

To make a chic style statement at pre-wedding bashes, look no further than the gorgeous Shilpa Shetty Kundra. This floor-sweeping gown by designer Dolly J, from FDCI India Couture Week 2022, is a fairy tale woven in fabric. A plunging neckline, crystal and sequin embellishments, trendy waist cutouts and the side pockets on the skirt come together to make this piece an absolute winner! The most sustainable fashion trend of the times is upcycling. Repurpose your old lehenga or saree for a new style altogether. Actor Rashmika Mandanna (below) sports a lehenga by designer Varun Bahl made from "upcycled vintage embroidery and appliques".

While periwinkle blue might be the colour of choice-du-jour, we are vouching for all shades of blue to brighten up the wedding season. But the gorgeous blue is not the best part of this lehenga sported by actor Sara Ali Khan. What draws attention is the manner in which the embellished, sheer dupatta has been draped around her shoulders akin to a cape. Wrapped around her arms and attached to a belt-like accessory has her styling game on point. While there are many ways to drape a dupatta, this style offers a glamorous hands free solution. Pairing capes with lehengas have been trending for a while now, but this wedding season, it's all about the dupatta cape. Either style your dupatta to flow like a cape or have it tailored to resemble a long kimono or a short bolero. If you are the bride looking to make a statement on your special day by choosing to move away from the quintessential reds, opt for dusty powder pinks topped with as much bling as you, and the camera, can handle on your big day.

For men only
58
This one’s for the menfolk! The groom can borrow some inspiration from Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar this season, who dons this uber smart gold and black velvet sherwani by designer Siddartha Tytler. Traditional except for the Oriental embroidery, the look's all about luxury and power. With velvet making a comeback this season, make good use of it in your wardrobe in shades like black, navy and olive. Akhtar pulled off the look with a pair of black shoes, while you can wear traditional footwear. Belts are in for men as well, as we see in this ensemble (bottom right) by designer JJ Valaya. Use it to keep the shawl in place or just to give your sherwani a smarter look. Understated or ostentatious, grooms are gradually pairing their wedding ensembles with bijouterie. Men wearing jewellery is not unheard of, or a break from tradition, for Indians. Nuptials are, in fact, the occasion where even the most reticent groom is going to sport at least the ritual ring or a chain. While the bridal trousseau takes up most of the bejewelled wedding spree, the groom need not feel left out when shopping for some eye-catching jewellery. Although jewellery has only become a style statement for men of late, it was a part of everyday dressing and a common accessory in ancient India. Many kings and emperors, as well as members of the royal court, often put on such ornamental pieces as rings, bracelets, stacked necklaces, toe-rings and even earrings.
Men can try a zip as an embellishment instead of traditional buttons (top); or sport some jewellery (left) and add a belt (below) for a style statement
If traditional ethnic wear is too conventional for your liking, then it’s time to mix and match to create that perfectly unique outfit November 2022

This wedding season, it's all about the jacket. Wear it short, structured or long, the idea is to add layers to your look. Pair it with sarees or pants, or just throw it on over a crop top. At the fashion weeks held in this year as well, we saw designers pairing sarees and lehengas with them. From embellished jackets to dramatic capes, couturiers reinvented the traditional designs and added a contemporary panache. Take note. You know what to do now if you have an impending wedding waiting in the wings! Faux feathers can upgrade your look instantly (above). Try a structured jacket with pants (left) for a comfortable style or choose a Western silhouette with Indian embroidery (bottom)
So, you’re a heritage textiles buff? Take a cue from Karisma Kapoor’s fabulously modern brocade kurta set by Payal Khandwala. Perfect for a cocktail or sangeet night spent grooving, this A-line brocade kurta with flared brocade pants are perfect. If you want to sport a Western look, choose from Shantanu and Nikhil's collection of global silhouettes (extreme right) with Indian embroidery.

heir smiles light up the world and it's their innocence that keeps reminding the 'adult world' to be responsible. This November, as we celebrate Children's Day, here are some interesting facts about amusement parks from around the world. History says gardens, where people gathered for walks and entertainment, were the predecessors of the modern theme parks or amusement parks. In the early 1900s, the
amusement park industry skyrocketed, and with the rise of industrialisation, hundreds of theme parks mushroomed around the world. Ride engineers started dreaming big and building roller coasters that went higher, moved faster and offered longer thrills than ever. When Disneyland, first opened in Anaheim, California, in the 1950s, it became an overnight sensation. India got its first such park in 1984. Located at Pragati Maidan, in central Delhi, Appu Ghar was the country’s first amusement park.

Nano-learning The huge success of TikTok-like short-form video content platforms has proved that the younger generation prefers to understand and convey messages in a short span of time. So why not introduce these videos to the education sector? Welcome, nano-learning. This new form of education includes extremely short and highlyfocussed lessons, which experts say, leads to higher levels of comprehension and retention of the material. These micro or bite-sizes courses can help in-job professionals as well, as these require lesser time to be completed.
Autonomous mobility
Smartphones of the future Smartphones of the future, as early as 2030, could have holographic displays that could render 3D images or videos, which would float above the device and be viewed from any angle without the need to wear 3D glasses. What's even more interesting is that some say smartphones, the way we know them, will disappear. As Bill Gates recently declared, electronic tattoos will be the new device to usher in the next generation of technology.
November 2022
There may come a time in the future, when humans might not be permitted to drive! May sound impossible now but it could become a reality, with huge strides being made in the world of autonomous mobility. If experts are to be believed, self-driving vehicles, guided by smarter AI, will take over the roads to minimise accidents and other errors caused by human drivers. With Apple saying it aims to launch fully self-driving electric cars in around four years, the future of driverless traffic may not be too far off!

The start-up claims that with zero construction and optimised production, it can build a house in mere five days! 3D-printed homes are ones that are designed and built using construction technologies that can build structures faster than traditional methods. With homemade extrudable concrete made of cement, sand, geopolymers and fibres, the start-up is set on a path to address the problems of affordable housing in countries like India.

Scientists are convinced about this shift in focus in Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) from looking for signs of alien biology or electromagnetic signals to hunting for objects as signs of alien technology. The best place to look for artefacts, says Loeb, is in the Solar System – our ‘mailbox’, where extraterrestrial ‘packages’ have been able to accumulate for 4.55 billion years!
The stage is set for rapid innovation as manufacturers are deploying artificial intelligence and machine learning to make robots smarter and more capable. Amazon has been working on a domestic robot of its own - Amazon Astro. Also interesting is Google's PaLM that, the company says, will train its domestic robots in the subtleties of human language. Among the most talked-about humanoid robots are Sophia, Ameca, Toyota T-HR3, Amelia the Conversational AI, Geminoid F, Junko Chichiro, Vyommitra by the Indian Institute Of Space Research, Atlas By Boston Dynamics, Erica By IRL, Pepper By Softbank and Kime By Macco.
Over-the-aircharging No cables and no wireless charging pads. Just wireless power beamed through the air to your smartphone! Wireless charging has been here for years now and it is apt for those who often forget to turn on the switch after plugging in the charger. However, it hasn’t been entirely wireless as the charging pad is still tethered to a cable. But what if there is a technology that can transmit millimetre waves to receivers inside a smartphone to charge it? The system is similar to Wi-Fi connectivity and sounds spectacular. Although we are yet to witness the super-fast charging speeds as seen when connected to a traditional charger, over-the-air charging technology is the future.

Recent research has said that megalodon, a giant shark that roamed the oceans millions of years ago, could have devoured a creature the size of a killer whale in just five bites. At around 50 ft from nose to tail, the megalodon was longer than a bus; that’s about two to three times the size of a presentday great white shark!

Expect a very positive financial message. If obstacles are confronting you, it is because you’re moving in the wrong direction. Be honest with yourself. Spend quality time with your children as they need you now. You will soon buy a new car. Invest a small amount of money, it will be needed later.
There is a money matter that will have a positive outcome. Your love life will be low at this time because all of your activities will be geared to daily living, family ties or your home. An addition to the family is on the cards. You will invest in your own house soon. Watch your health for dental problems.
The focus is on activities centering on the home or a business that you can do out of your home. Handle financial negotiations and business transactions tactfully before you get started or misunderstandings will arise. Problems at home or with family will ease and you will seek love or romance.
Expect luck in a new business enterprise. Income thought lost will be retrieved. Let go of situations that no longer serve a purpose. If you try and pursue them, you will advance only to have to pull back. Delay your investment plans as much as you can. Stay away from unnecessary arguments.
When you least expect it, you will be assisted or advanced in your finances, profession or social life. Money will be coming in through work you like or a business partner. A financial problem that caused you a lot of worry will be resolved. You will find love and harmony in your close family.
You may be considering a major purchase. You will be concerned about an investment or business partnership and will wonder if you should force the issue or if the problem will be resolved on its own. Allow others to help you; don’t be afraid to take chances. You will be lucky in romance.
Libra
Scorpio
Sagittarius Capricorn

Pisces
Inflow of money will be slow and you might have conflicts with others or worry about what you should do. However, there will be financial gains soon. You won't demand something that isn’t right. Expect success from an impromptu business proposal. Watch out for throat or ear problems.
You will want to get away from work but it will keep pulling you back. An unexpected financial gain is on the cards. Maintain mental or emotional balance, keep things in their proper perspective, and take things slow and easy. If you’re having a problem, don’t struggle with it. Take a time-out or just drop it for now.
You will handle your affairs skilfully and complete all projects and financial matters successfully. A contract in hand is indicated. You will want a marriage or a serious commitment but will face a tug of war between your head and heart. Remember, in case your heart wins, you will have to make a sacrifice.
You’ll begin a new project or venture and papers will be involved. If you have to take a test, you’ll pass with flying colours. A transfer of ownership will be processed and completed. You will be more goal-oriented and motivated. Finances will start rolling in and you will be able to buy property soon.
Activity at your work place will be renewed. Expect a positive flow of creative, innovative or inspired ideas and heaps of praises or admiration. Something is going to transpire that you didn’t think possible, something you want very much. A profitable trip is in store for you, maybe overseas.
Success will come through a new career direction or romantic change of heart. Expect new solutions from someone who will add a new slant on things and you will know what is true and what to do. Trying to take on too many things at once is taking its toll; so reassess your priorities.

72
SpiceJet has announced the launch of a taxi service for its passengers at 28 major airports, including Dubai. The taxi service offers multiple benefits such as zero cancellation fee, zero wait time with 100 per cent confirmed and sanitised cabs, and offering unmatched doorstep convenience. The service is available in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Varanasi, Amritsar, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Pune, Tirupati, Dehradun, Port Blair and many more cities. Passengers also get an instant cash-back on completing their ride with the service. SpiceJet already offers a firstof-its-kind option of booking cabs in-flight mid-air using the airline’s entertainment platform SpiceScreen. Passengers booking SpiceJet flights will receive an SMS with details of the SpiceJet taxi service. A link in the SMS will enable them to update details of pick-up location and time. When it is updated, their booking will get confirmed and a cab will be reserved for them for their departure. Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer, SpiceJet, said, “This end-to-end service will enhance the SpiceJet experience for our passengers. We are eliminating the stress of booking a cab to or from an airport with a convenient doorstep service, zero waiting and confirmed cabs at arrival station as well. This initiative is yet another product of our passion for passenger convenience.”

SpiceJet successfully concludes Haj pilgrimage special flights SpiceJet recently announced the successful conclusion of its special Haj flights for 2022. A total of 40 flights were operated with more than 5,500 pilgrims undertaking the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. The first special Haj flight with 145 passengers was flagged off from Srinagar airport on June 5, 2022. Shri. Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, had joined the launch event virtually. The last batch of pilgrims from Jeddah via Fujairah arrived in Srinagar on August 3. SpiceJet has in the past operated special Haj flights from Gaya and Srinagar, ferrying around 19,000 pilgrims to and from the holy city. The operation of special Haj flights was resumed this year after a hiatus of two-years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lock the fare with SpiceJet’s SpiceLock SpiceJet has re-introduced SpiceLock, a unique service allowing passengers to lock their desired ticket fare for 48 hours, allowing them to plan their journey without worrying about prices, seat availability or finalising co-passengers. The service will enable customers to reserve bookings, so as to stay protected from sell-out of seats on a flight and fare surges while finalising their travel plans. The service can be availed with or without mentioning a passenger name, making it extra safe and convenient. Passengers flying on both domestic and international flights operated
by SpiceJet can now enjoy this service with assured seat and price protection. The service is applicable for flights where the travel date is at least seven days from booking date on domestic sectors and 15 days for international routes. You can lock these fares for 48 hours at a nominal cost starting INR 99. All one has to do is choose the 'Hold my Fare' option on search result page, select the preferred hold fare option, pay the applicable fees to hold the fare for 48 hours, and confirm booking and payments via “Manage my booking option” within 48 hours of locking the fare.

MyTown In our series, in which we travel to various Indian cities with a SpiceJet family member, this month, Cabin Crew Shafeequa Fathima takes us around Chennai City connect
I was born and raised in Chennai and this is the city I call home.
What makes Chennai special? It is a perfect blend of the old and new. It is a city of culture, traditions, temples, and beaches. It boasts a booming economy, low living costs, and a thriving music and arts scene, being home to some of India’s oldest artistic schools. Chennai offers a large variety of cuisines as well, available at both fine-dining restaurants and street stalls. It is a city where people from different communities and faiths live harmoniously. Chennaiites are devoted to their heritage and most of them follow age-old rituals every day. November 2022
Shafeequa Fathima MAA – CABIN CREW
Best thing that you like about the city Every year, between December and January, the city hosts one of the world’s largest music festivals, the Madras Music Season. During this time, Chennai transforms into a mega carnival of Carnatic music, with venues hosting concerts and performances, with around 2,000 artists. It is also home to “Kollywood”, the Tamil language film industry.
Nightlife Being an IT hub, the city attracts youth from across the country, who revel in Chennai's unique cultural blend. There are a number of pubs and bars that play outstanding Rock and Metal music. The city is teeming with restaurants, pubs and bars that stay open till late evening. And as Chennai is a safe city, one can stay out till late without being scared.
75 Recommendations for tourists
Favourite eating place Sunset Grill in Velachery. A candlelight dinner at this rooftop restaurant is one of the most romantic experiences in Chennai.
Favourite dish My favourite dish is pothi kozhi biryani from Charminar Biryani Centre. In this dish, the meat is cooked with whole spices, and the masala has a base of onion with a lot of garlic and coriander powder. The rice is made in the style of 'ghee rice' and then layered with meat and given a dum (type of steaming).
Best places to hang out Writer’s Café is the perfect place to spend time with friends, family and by yourself. Feast on the European dishes served here, sip a coffee and read a book! It's a great place to work as well.
Chess fever Recently, Chennai hosted the 44th Chess Olympiad. The prestigious event cemented Chennai's reputation as India's chess capital. For the event, the iconic Napier Bridge was given a chess-themed makeover. It was painted in black and white to resemble a chess board. To mark the event, SpiceJet flew around 150 government school students from across Tamil Nadu on a special joyride on a B 737 aircraft.
There is a lot to see in Chennai but there are a few interesting places one shouldn't miss, like the Guindy National Park and Snake Park, and the VGP Marine Kingdom. If you have time, step out of the city and explore the Ubbalamadugu (Tada Falls) waterfalls, where trekking and camping are very popular.
Weekend trips While Pondicherry is the most obvious choice, the former French colony is far from the only weekend destination close to Chennai. A scenic coastal road hugging Chennai called the East Coast Road (on which Pondicherry also lies) can take you to several nearby tourist destinations, including the ancient temple town Mahabalipuram (50 km) and former Dutch and Danish colonial forts in Sadras (72 km) and Tranquebar (300 km).

It was early morning on May16th, 2019 that I checked in at Dubai International Airport and was seated comfortably on seat 7F on SG 58 to Jaipur. My exhilaration knew no bounds as I heard the cabin crew announce that Capt. Amar Ramchandani was the pilot of my flight. To be flown in a BOEING 737 - 800 by my student from Mayo College, Ajmer batch of 1993 was a matter of great pride! I had never imagined that I would be flown by Amar. I sent him a message and was immediately moved to seat 1C. I was coming back home after a month. The flight was smooth, I was so well looked after and the entire team lead by Capt. Amar was impeccable. This respect, love and professionalism, and my student flying me was a matter of sheer happiness and pride.
