design studio IV | Project I Sustainable Farming Module
Our design targets the urban community. We wanted to instil an urban gardening culture in today’s fast-paced urban society & make it part of their everyday life.

Our creation is called ‘Inversus’, in other words, inverted gardening. Inversus does not take up much primary space indoors which allows users to maximise floor area. The inverted watering system allows longer non-watering intervals which means the plant survives although it is not watered for 4 days, catering to the user’s busy s c h e d u l e .

design studio IV | Project II Kampung Baharu Teras Site Analysis
Project IIa required us to conduct a site analysis of Kampung Baharu Teras, a small village tucked away deep in the highlands of Pahang. There, we spent most of our time on Mr Eric’s Natural Tropical Farm, our designated building site for Project IIb.
At Kampung Baharu Teras, we explored the village to know its story by interviewing the locals. A 10 minute video was made to accompany our research findings produced in a form of powerpoint slides. Our presentation consisted of a perceptual & social analysis and a physical a n a l y s i s .

Design brief requirements were : - +/- 800 m2 floor area - 2 to 3 storeys high Design Concept - AGORA The agora (Ancient Greek: Ἀγορά, Agorá) was a central spot in ancient Greek city-states. The literal meaning of the word is "gathering place" or "assembly". The agora was the center of athletic, artistic, spiritual and political life of the city.

tales of 3 cities | Project I Ideas & Theories in Urbanism
Project I was an introduction to the various urban theories & ideas in the Eastern world. We learnt how various social situations responded to spatial forms as well as acquiring a holistic understanding about various historical phases of a city.

Project IIb required us to map the streetscape of Pickering Street, our chosen street as our case study. In a group, we studied the street by analysing it in a series of layers : - City Scale - Local Scale - Human Scale Using our design pallete in Project I, we dissected the street to see how it functions & how it affects the people living in Singapore.

theories in urbanism & architecture | Project II Research Essay
Project II gave us the opportunity to study the design philosophy & theories of a chosen home-grown architect in Malaysia. We conducted a series of interview sessions with Ar. Liu Shang Rui, a seasoned architect who is also a part time design lecturer in Taylor’s Lakeside University. A 2500 word research essay was produced to document our findings.

For Project II, we learnt that behind every great designer is a well-thought design philoshophy that drives their creations. Ar Liu Shang Rui shared with us his wisdom in the world of design over the years. He believes ‘the significance of architecture is in the details.’
