MAJOR SPONSORS
WELCOME This year’s commercial and civil projects prove that a pandemic will not get in the way of MBA members delivering truly outstanding projects. These projects are reviving, restoring and recapturing spaces around Canberra to turn them into buildings, roads, paths and communal spaces that deliver what our city needs. While travel was often restricted this year, roads across the Territory saw major upgrades, including the construction of a new bikeway in Belconnen, the duplication of Gundaroo Drive and the rehabilitation of Northbourne Avenue, which has created a safer passage for all commuters. The projects this year have catered to the future of Canberra, with the extension of Bluegum Preschool, the rebirth of the Calvary Emergency Department and an additional carehouse added to Uniting Gordon. The COVID-19 surge centre was another impressive project, being completed in just 37 days, it ended up being incredibly necessary as the ACT faced its second lockdown.
ASSOCIATE SPONSORS
The 2021 Project of the Year is Constitution Place, which was delivered by Construction Control Australia. Constitution Place is an 80,000m² development that has already become an iconic part of the Canberra City. By creating test products and ensuring an energy efficient operation, this development is built with longevity at the forefront. Thank you to all sponsors of the 2021 Excellence Awards, you adapted with the changing COVID situation, but your enthusiasm for the Excellence Awards never wavered. Thank you to the Excellence Awards judges for returning to face-to-face judging while also adapting to strict COVID restrictions. Congratulations to all entrants for completing spectacular projects and thank you for continuing to support Master Builders ACT.
CANBERRA
Over the many years we have run the Excellence Awards, the most important thing wasn’t catering or black-tie attire. It was the immense sense of camaraderie in the Canberra construction industry and the enduring excellence across all categories. We look forward to celebrating more outstanding projects over the years ahead, and we are excited to see the continued collaboration between members.

RORK PROJECTS Westpac Project COVID Response
This stunning commercial office space is located on level 5 of the 2020 Project of the Year, Civic Quarter. With construction beginning just 5 days before COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization, it took tremendous planning and strict adherence to health and safety practices to deliver this project. Rork Projects developed a site-specific Project Risk Assessment (PRA) to ensure the safest and most efficient outcome. They also developed an extensive COVID-19 management plan that details several factors including how COVID spreads, outlines risk management controls and a comprehensive COVID response procedure.
