EDITOR'S LETTER
Dear Readers,
April is here with the 88th edition of MBE Business Magazine.
March was a rather ordinary month weather wise in the city. Aside from one major storm that crippled the city for a day, the weather was relatively mild. The clocks were moved forward the 2nd Sunday in March and as a result, we have more daylight during the day and along with that came the start of spring which occurred the 3rd week in March.
As we turn the calendar to April, spring is officially here. With April showers, comes May flowers. With most of the snow already melted, we will get the occasional rare April snowstorm only to have it immediately melt due to warmer temperatures.
Seven significant days in April are April Fools, Passover, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Orthodox Easter, Ramadan/EID and Earth Day. April Fool’s Day occurs every year on April 1st. This is a day to play practical jokes and pranks on your friends and family.
Passover, also known as Pesach in Hebrew begins on the 5th (15th of Nisan every year in the Hebrew Calendar) and lasts for eight days ending on April 13th. It is one of the major and most sacred celebrations in Jewish tradition as it commemorates the Israelites' Exodus from Egypt.
Good Friday is April 7th this year and is celebrated on the Friday before Easter and commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is stated in the Bible that Jesus had his last meal, also known as The Last Supper, with his disciples just before the Passover Festival was to be celebrated. The following day Jesus was put on trial, crucified, and buried.
Easter Sunday is a major Christian holiday celebrating Jesus Christ's resurrection three days after his death. In 2023 this will be April the 9th.
Orthodox Easter is celebrated at a later date than that observed by western Christianity. This is because the Orthodox Church follows the Julian calendar, as opposed to the Gregorian calendar. Thus, those of the Orthodox faith will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on April 16th, in 2023.
This year, Eid ul Fitr 2023 is expected to be celebrated on Friday, 21st of April 2023, or on Saturday, 22nd of April 2023. However, the exact date is subject to the sighting of the moon of Shawwal, 1444, the 10th month of the Islamic Calendar. Eid ul Fitr, is a religious festival for all Muslims around the world. It marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
It is Allah's reward for believers who fasted during the holy month of Ramadan and for also thanking Allah for giving them the chance and the strength to carry out His commands during the blessed month of Ramadan. Traditionally, Eid al Fitr is celebrated for three days in almost all Muslim countries.
Earth Day is celebrated internationally on April 22. It is a day to educate people about the issues affecting the planet and to raise awareness for and celebrate the efforts in place to protect the environment.

THE ABILITY TO TRUST YOURSELF & THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU
SYED MANSOOR NAQVI PRESIDENT MBEThe most important thing in a business is the ability to trust yourself & the people around you. The two most important things are 'Trusting people' & 'How to boost & motivate people?'
Many negative thoughts will consume you regarding someone you are imparting trust on. People may feel that the person will hurt you. As part of your doubts, your mind will be filled with negative thoughts - will the person steal from me or will they take my ideas and thoughts, never to be seen again. The problem here is that we need more time to trust someone at work, which is our creation & our own business. We also assume wrongly that whatever we do by default is the right thing or approach. The first & most important thing is the mandatory presence of trust, especially in the people.
RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT YOU HAVE CREATED YOURSELF:
When you create an environment which is your own business, you have to know how to trust people & to boost people to motivate them until you can trust and grow that trust. It can get difficult to grow. At every point in your organization or company, you have doubts that a person might just hurt you, hence the thoughts of stealing money and alternatively your ideas.
Respect the environment you have created yourself & don't think negatively about the people around you. Don't let the negative thoughts or emotions cloud your judgment. Things may not always go as you planned so remember the two most important things for success in life, i.e. trust yourself first and trust others.
THERE IS NO MIDDLE WAY WHEN YOU INTEND TO TAKE A JOURNEY:
Whenever you intend to do something in life, there is no in-between. When traveling in a plane, you have no other option but to trust the pilot. As in life in this particular instance, you have no other option available to you. Similarly when travelling in a train, your life is in the hands of the conductor and while travelling in a bus, your life is in the hands of the bus driver. This is no different when you get admitted to a hospital, you fully trust your doctor as your life is in your doctor's hands. This is how it keeps going on and on.
All our life, we are giving our lives & our trust to someone else by default. We don't want to feel that as we think whatever we do by default is safe. It is something which is our creation. We are not willing to trust someone else.
NOT HAVING A TRUST IN PEOPLE CAN BE A CAUSE OF A FAILURE:
Not trusting people can be a cause of your failure. You have to give authority to people & empower them in the form of trust to make them your loyal employees. People or businesses who don't trust their employees usually don't even know the cause of their failure. However, trust me, the only cause is the lack of trust they have imposed on their employees.
Impart some trust in people and even if they are not one of your better employees, they may just become one of your most loyal when you show them trust. This is a result of sincerity. Research shows, if you need or want to understand people, just watch the people around them.
As far as a person's success goes, it is only possible if you, in a set environment, trust the people around you.
IT'S A PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUE THAT STOPS YOUR GROWTH & PROGRESS IN THE BUSINESS WORLD:
We (Cashwave) are ATM Processors in Canada. There is an immense amount of risk that our organization takes on every day in terms of loading cash in ATM’s as well as keeping track of all funds and making sure all funds are delivered to the correct accounts. When it comes to cash loading, the most common fear in the ATM industry is hiring cash loaders that you can trust with your cash. There is constant fear when you hand someone a large amount of money wondering “what if they steal it; what if they remove bills”. My company does not live with this fear. We believe that it is only right to trust anyone and everyone with your life until that trust is broken.
In the world of business, when you are surrounding yourself with more and more individuals with the goal to grow your organization, it is important that you trust everyone who is around you. If you have an attitude in which you did not trust the people you have employed or work with, this will jeopardize your companies’ environment and slow and stop your growth.
of the household. It stops you from providing the energy you are mandated to provide as the breadwinner for the family and can affect how they run the household.
Similarly, business is your second family & you need to transfer the vision & your roadmap to them. Unless you don't transfer the vision, there is no energy for your employees & no motivation at work. It's you whom they look up to for motivation & positive energy. This is the difference between a successful business & a failed one.
Linking the people & keeping them engaged is vital for business growth & success.
Making this link in your business a daily routine shall be a new day of hope both at home and in business. It will take your life in a new direction & will take all the associated people in a new direction. People not taking this action find it difficult for them to grow in the business world.
Conclusively, with this execution, life shall be very easy & business life shall be very easy & far smoother.
WHEN LIFE IS GOOD & SMOOTH WHY DOES IT FEEL SO IMCOMPLETE?
SYED MAHMOOD NAQVI Vice President | MB EnterprisesA few days back, my son came to me & he gave me a quote that blew my mind. I was shocked to hear such a thing from my son at this very young age. He told me, “I feel incomplete when life is easy,” Hussain Naqvi. This quote is full of depth, and I believe if society applies this quote in daily life, it could change the way the economy works.
Life Is A Challenge Everyday:
When life is good & smooth, it feels incomplete. Because life is a challenge every day, & the real enjoyment & joy is in fighting life's challenges. Your biggest moment of
joy might be when your son was born. However, as soon as he faces life's challenges, you shall feel more accomplished to see him grow up. Further, to become what you have always dreamt for your son in life.
It’s like you have won a Gold medal in the Olympics or Commonwealth Games for the first time & you feel like you are flying in the skies. Simply because of what you aimed for, after all the challenges in life, you have accomplished that. Your struggles in achieving the Gold medal in the most prestigious tournaments have worked for you.
It Never Feels Good When Life Is A Piece Of Cake:
When life is a piece of cake, i.e. everything is going in the right direction, most people would find it good. However, some of them wouldn’t, as they love life's challenges. They love taking the tough route instead of the very easy one for them. This is similar to something my son quoted ‘I feel incomplete when life is easy.’ Obviously, his soul might be the soul of very few ones who love the challenges of life.
A teacher always scolds his students when something goes wrong. Howev-
er, there are few teachers who would say that I like your mistakes as mistakes will teach you more. Mistakes will also help you learn things much more easily.
Challenges Give You The Thrill To Fight It Out:
Challenges give you the real passion & the thrill to fight it out. Challenges also give you the drive to stick to your daily routine very strictly. Challenges make you a mountain climber as no one can underestimate the passion inside you & the skills to go up in life. You don’t need shortcuts to get what you are looking for. All you need is the right strategy & the hard work to take your challenges & dig the grave for them straight away.
Similarly, as in real life, if you are faced with a challenging situation. You realize, i.e. in the middle of the journey, that you are facing hardships, don’t give up at that point. You never know; a little bit more struggle in the right direction can get you what you want from life. Just like my kid said to me, “I feel incomplete when life is easy,” it might be an ideal time to
make life easy & later easiest. Obviously, life is nothing but a ‘bunch of challenges.’ If you enjoy that bunch of challenges, one day they shall turn into a ‘bunch of roses’ for you.
Make Yourself Complete With The Right Vision:
You have to make yourself complete with the right vision, even if you face challenges. According to Imam Ali, ‘Whatever is taken away from you will be replaced with something better.’ It’s the ultimate connection you need to make with the challenges & face them face-to-face with the right attitude. If something is taken away from you, definitely you shall find a better replacement if you stick to the basics.
You just don't have to cry over spilt milk or if you have lost something. There might be something better in store for you or a better deal that you shall find sooner rather than later.
NEVER COMPROMISE ON LESSER STANDARDS:
Making compromises on lesser
challenges. You just have to make sure that you stick to your standards, i.e. your quality, before reaching a certain situation or a position.
As someone who works hard with the right intention, such a person who compromises that scenario, in literal terms, is not wanted. Making the wrong compromises can even lead to finding the wrong routes to success, which might be your real enemy. Ultimately, it can even be a cause of dissatisfaction & lacking of comfort.
Your comfort zone is in fighting life's challenges and taking the challenges as part & parcel of the big game.
ENJOY YOUR COMFORT ZONE EVERY DAY:
If fighting out your challenges is your true comfort zone, always enjoy your comfort zone under all circumstances. Even if it takes loads of hard work & planning, just don’t make limitations for yourself.
At the end of the day, you will feel the
MEETING FOR SUCCESS IS A BIG PART OF THE CORPORATE AGENDA
Meeting for success is a huge part of the corporate agenda as it holds vital growth elements. It is regarded as a supreme & key growth factor as your agendas stay the most vital part of your prime objectives. You stay focused on meeting goals if they are defined in advance for a corporate vision. Corporations are investing large amounts of money for the success of meetings as it's no point using the resources & coming up with no solution. Always aim for a corporate solution while you aim to go for a meeting. The meeting place should be well equipped regarding the facilities regarded as adequate for compliance with your agendas.
Relevancy holds prime numbers for the success of a meeting as the closer you stay close to your objectives, the better return you shall have from the meeting. You shall enjoy the fruits of your hard work if your vision is clearer in your mind.
The client is always regarded as a key part of the meeting if it is a client meeting rather than just an internal affair. It would help if you discussed the initial thing you must decide with the client in the meeting, i.e. well in advance. This is apart from the many questions that you need to ask your client. You must also comfort the client in the first place by making a rapport
with the client & asking him queries & questions with regards to a business deal, a proposition & other key areas. Always make sure you don't upset the client & your relationship initiates well with the client.
MINUTES OF THE MEETING:
The minutes of the meetings are a vital part of the meeting, which is centralized across success factors. To have success with the meeting, always make sure that you make minutes of the meeting or that someone part of the team does that. Minutes of the meetings are agendas discussed in the meeting. These agendas are priority discussions
Always make sure your minutes of the meeting are precise. Always review the minutes of the meeting after you have made them & highlight the most important ones. They shall keep reminding you of the importance of the meeting & its value for the future growth of the company.
ARE INTERNAL MEETINGS USEFUL?
In most cases, they are found to be very useful. However, in some cases, they are also found to be less worthwhile. Also, a waste of time in many cases & just a waste of some good paper & key material. Make your internal meeting a key resource, just as you know well the importance of managing your resources. Just make an internal meeting a useful resource & a handy one for the future.
NEVER TAKE A DIVERSION FROM YOUR CORPORATE AGENDA:
Just make sure that you don't divert from your corporate agendas. Instead, you stay closer to your agendas. Obviously a diversion shall only take you away from the sole objective of the meeting, be specific with your time & what you need to discuss in the meeting must be very transparent amongst your peers, i.e. your team members & meeting associates. Taking diversions from the meeting adds to the corporate meeting being less effective.
THE ATTITUDE IN THE MEETING MATTERS TO ALL:
The attitude in the meeting matters to all the key stakeholders present in the meeting. This attitude is very much evident from your professionalism, your tone, your voice, your
meeting hold from you need to be met in the most professional & best possible ways. At the end of the day, it's the attitude that matters for professional growth.
You must know well how to present yourself in terms of the most refreshing attitude that is needed. The presentation should brief your role in the meeting & how you shall be acting in the time until you are meeting up again with regards to your meeting objectives. Just make an in-depth evaluation of how well you have complied with your meeting agendas. Self-evaluation of your meeting is part of the growing professional attitude that is needed in your organization the most. It is best you take the advice of your more sober & more senior members as they know well due to their experience as to what you lack & what you have as a good strength.
Never make a good compliment on your mind; in fact, it's best to diffuse it fast & rather focus on your weaknesses which you know better than anyone else.
Always make sure that meeting for success is a big part of your corporate agenda & it does so in the number of coming years ahead. Success is not an easy target, but it can be achieved with a decent self-analysis.
Will House Prices Drop In Ontario In 2023?
the last couple of years, you know that there was a major housing boom in the summer of 2021. This boom was caused by a huge demand from buyers which drove the asking and selling prices of homes up dramatically. In April 2020, at the start of the pandemic, the average residential sale price in Ontario was sitting at just under $600,000. In September 2021, that number increased to over $880,000.
Now, as the housing boom has slowed and we've started to see some balancing and dropping in prices, you may be wondering what 2023 will bring.
Here is a look back at the 2022 real estate market and a look ahead into 2023.
Statistics
The CREA had a recent report released that looks at the national average housing price and other key indicators of the temperature of the market for that year or quarter.
Some Key Highlights:
The report outlines various pieces of data in Canada's housing market, but here are the points that were highlighted:
• National home sales declined by 3.3% month over month in November 2022.
• The actual (not seasonally adjusted) monthly activity was 38.9% below November 2021.
• The MLS Home Price Index (HPI) had a 1.4 per cent drop month over month and decreased 4.4% year over year.
• The actual (not seasonally adjusted) national average sale price posted a 12% year-over-year decline in November.
Overall, the last quarter of 2022 really saw a decrease in real estate transactions and home sales.
The report states that "the actual (not seasonally adjusted) number of transactions in November 2022 came in 38.9%
The Rising Interest Rates
The declining home sales can be attributed to a variety of factors, particularly the high-interest rates and the effects of inflation on the country. Throughout 2022, the Bank of Canada has increased the interest rates a few times. As of December 2022, the interest rate sits at 4.25% which is a much higher rate than March's 0.25%.
These higher interest rates are adjusted according to inflation. Because inflation has been increasing in the Canadian economy, Canada's central bank has adjusted its interest rates accordingly.
What Was The 2022 National Average Home Price In The Housing Market?
The CREA also reports on national average home prices. The report states, "The actual (not seasonally adjusted) national average home price was $632,802 in November
Excluding these two markets from the calculation cuts more than $123,000 from the national average."
The CREA also has a price map that showcases the average property prices by province and territory Here are those prices:
• British Columbia: $904,020
• Alberta: $422,709
• Saskatchewan: $321,000
• Manitoba: $330,742
• Ontario: $829,934
• Quebec: $479,787
• New Brunswick: $269,800
• Newfoundland/Labrador: $280,200
• Nova Scotia: $368,600
• Prince Edward Island: $355,000
• Yukon: $498,567
• Northwest Territories: $392,255
As we can see, while the average housing prices in Ontario are still much higher than in years past, the average has gone down from the 2021 price.
Predictions and Forecast For 2023
At the end of 2022, we've seen the housing market begin to
slow. This is evident in the declining home sales, a slight decline in home prices, and a lack of demand for houses. As we enter 2023, there are a few predictions and forecasts that we should expect in the coming months.
It is unlikely that there will be a sharp decline in home prices even though they have decreased slightly. While the housing market is cooling down and balancing, it's not expected to increase affordability, particularly in Ontario.
With high interest and mortgage rates, the demand in the market has decreased even though the housing supply has stayed the same or increased. There are fewer buyers hoping to make a sale in the Canadian housing market as many homeowners are choosing to save instead of buy. As well, the high rates also mean that rent prices are expected to rise, especially in major cities like Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax.
That being said, two banks (Desjardins and TD economics) both agree that home prices are expected to drop 25% by the end of 2023, particularly in provinces other than Ontario. For a smaller city, a 15% decrease in prices is expected, especially in the London, Kitchener Waterloo, Barrie, and Georgian Bay Area.
What Is The Expected Average Home Price For 2023?
The housing market is set to see some decline in prices across Ontario. By the fourth quarter of 2023, the average prices of houses in Canada are set to fall about 1 per cent to just over $750,000.
Affordability in the Housing Market
While the housing market is not predicted to crash or have any major effects, home prices are predicted to fall slightly. However, we will not see a steep drop or any major moves toward housing affordability.
For a long time now, real estate prices in Canada have been disconnected from salaries and incomes. Even if the inventory of listings sees a decline in prices, it does not necessarily mean that the average person can afford one.
As we've stated above, rising interest rates mean that mortgage payments are front of mind for many property owners. Many owners have opted to offset their payments with rental income by leasing out investment single detached homes or even the basement of their primary residence. In order to manage their mortgage payments, the rent prices are set quite high and aren't expected to fall. This means that, for many, housing is becoming more and more unaffordable in the Canadian housing market.
Another factor in the 2023 real estate forecast is the influence of immigrants on the housing market. Lately, Canada has seen a huge increase in immigration and this has been feeling larger demand for new housing. However, starting in January 2023, non-Canadians are banned from purchasing homes in Canada (with some exceptions) for two years as a way to improve affordability for Canadian citizens.
Conclusion
The housing markets in Canada have seen an increase in the real estate housing supply and a drop in prices in the last few months. As well, many homeowners are opting to save rather than sell. In 2023, the prices in many cities across Canada are predicted to drop, but not enough to make them more affordable for many people.

THE FIGHT OVER THE FUTURE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Punch in a query – for a restaurant, for a historical fact, or worse, some actual knowledge – and you’ll often get a results page full of sludge, ads and hits that you may or may not be looking for.
New developments in artificial intelligence may, however, end up flipping that all on its head.
You could be forgiven for being both weary and wary of “the next big thing” in tech. That refrain has not only become so common as to be almost
meaningless, there have also seen a slew of times that such prognostications simply haven’t come to pass.
Yet, now in 2023, it is almost impossible to escape chatter about artificial intelligence, especially ChatGPT, the intelligent chatbot that seems to have the world in a tizzy. Put out by OpenAI, the research company based in San Francisco, ChatGPT has become even more talked about after it was reported that Microsoft is investing $10 billion (U.S.) into OpenAI, in part so it too can have
access to the tech everyone is clamouring for.
That investment represents a serious threat to Google. Not only does it represent a significant change for how we think about tech, it also threatens to upend search, how we work – in addition to a whole lot more.
What’s the big deal? It could be as simple as the fact that AI is in fact the next big thing.
Before you ask: yes, there are myriad problems and flaws. And yes, Silicon Valley has yet again unleashed a technology upon the world apparently without the slightest care about what its effects might be.
But the strange thing about ChatGPT is that it may in fact be both underappreciated and overhyped at the same time: that, on the one hand, it is clear it is not even close to being truly intelligent, while also being troubling in a bout a hundred ways; but on the other hand, it promises to be revolutionary all the same.
The current round of AI essentially works like a smart chatbot – enter a prompt and watch is spit out a response – but one the capabilities of which can be a bit shocking.
When google search first emerged, it felt like magic. Now, not so much.
about the history of Chinese restaurants in Canada, to clean up computer code for simple app, or to write a poem in the style of Shakespeare – and it will do so with reasonable competency.
What differentiates ChatGPT from search or other forms of technology is that it can do a reasonably good job of synthesizing information and presenting it in a far more comprehensive way than a mere search result. I recently asked ChatGPT to tell me about the ills of English colonialism, and found multi-paragraph response detailing the exploitation, prejudice and extraction of wealth to be remarkably complete.
That kind of capability to understand normal human speech and present information in a coherent way means that Google and its search business must react to AI. It’s been speculated that one reason Microsoft is investing in Open AI is to challenge Google in search by offering up a natural language alternative.
Google have some of the finest engineers on the planet and have pioneered a lot of AI tech, so the fight will be both interesting and evenly matched.
But for its part, Microsoft intends to go further, integrating AI into its Office products. Imagine being able to ask PowerPoint to produce a presentation based on these notes, using a tropical theme, or simply asking Excel to organize data first by year, but then by revenue. These things are quite plausible
is something you might fairly call “the next big thing” in just tech, but society at large.
It is important to note that ChatGPT is riddled with problems. Because it is “trained” on existing data, it can spit out incorrect information (in an authoritative tone). It has also massively complicated the problem of misinformation, not to mention questions of authorship and copyright – issues that the folks at OpenAI either didn’t care enough to consider or simply considered beneath them.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that iPhones and the web and Facebook haven’t magically altered society for the better; one need only look at what is happening on Toronto’s transit system these days to see that our world is far from some magical utopia.
Even with all those caveats, it’s hard not to see the potential in AI. For established tech players like Google, it represents a clear and immediate threat. For the rest of us, we’re simply going to have to figure out how this remarkable new technology might be deployed to help rather than to harm.
SMART HOMES JUST GOT SMARTER
I must admit, I’m a little sheepish about being so easily influenced. But having seen coloured LED lights everywhere –those glowing strips or bulbs that adorn shelves and ceilings in modern coffee shops, or on Instagram – I gave in and got some too.
They’re nice, adding a soft glow in a hue of my choosing to a corner of our apartment. They are smart too, meaning they can be turned on and off with a voice prompt – at least when they work.
It’s that last caveat that is the bane of so-called “smart home tech,” that term we give to the tangle of modern conveniences that includes everything from smart speakers to electric blinds to smart locks and security systems. That field has largely been a Wild West in its early years with competing standards, an almost total lack of interoperability, and reliability being mostly a dream. My unreliable smart lights are, unfortunately, the norm rather than the exception.
NAVNEET ALANG
That now looks set to change, however. At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, dozens of manufacturers showcased wares that adhered to a new smart home standard called “Matter.” Everything from garage door openers to thermostats to lighting will begin to work interoperably and more seamlessly, starting now. And while there are inevitably lots of kinks to work out, it seems our homes might finally now get smarter.
It’s good news because up until now smart home tech had been plagued with problems. For one, certain products can only be controlled by certain other products. Those smart lights I bought can be turned on and off by Amazon and Google’s voice assistants, but can’t be controlled by Apple’s Home app. Every second smart home device is like this, either needing a proprietary app or being incompatible with a widely used way to control smart tech.
Worse is that much smart home tech has to connect to the cloud in order to work. That not only means that if your web connection goes down, your smart home tech no longer works; it is also an obvious security risk. The internet is littered with tales of smart lights not working when a server somewhere failed, smart locks acting up or cameras being hacked by bad actors.
Matter acts as a solution to these problems in a few ways. For one, it is a shared protocol, with hundreds of major and minor manufacturers having signed on. In addition to Apple, Google and Amazon, myriad other tech makers – everyone from major companies, like GE, Samsung and Phillips, to small but important ones like Grove, Nanoleaf and TP-Link- have all incorporated the standard. They are also no longer theoretical; according to reliable tech site Ars Technica, 550 products are now Matter certified and 150 more are in process.
That means that we are now much closer to the ideal that you can, say, buy smart lights from Phillips, a smart lock from Yale and a thermostat by Nest, but control them all using the Home app on your Apple iPad, or the voice assistant on a Google smart speaker.
That is as it should be. It would be absurd, after all, to have to buy kitchen appliances based on whether they work with your specific electricity provider. Smart tech should be the same: buy whatever makes your life more convenient and it all works together.
Further, Matter also uses another protocol called Thread to avoid having to connect to the internet. No more sitting in the dark or fiddling with a nonfunctioning smart lock because one’s access to the internet has gone down.
It is true that smart home tech can seem a bit absurd. Why do you need to use your voice to raise the blinds or have coloured lights under your kitchen cabinetry? But the upside of tech is accessibility. If and when it works well and easily, it could, for example, help the elderly and others who might have limited
mobility, or simplify otherwise complicated things like home security.
It took some time though, in addition to the obvious market pressure from consumers that things work better when they work together. And though Matter is an excellent start, it will need to evolve and grow over time to include more features, more devices, and more options for users.
It is, however, an excellent start. It also seems as if there is a lesson in there: that there are both economic but also social reasons that tech should work on a standard. For one, it makes it more accessible. For another, it makes it more appealing to be able to choose what one wants without having to be locked in to a single company’s ecosystem.
The question now is whether the rest of the tech industry will learn the same lesson. Social media and communication, after all, still operate firmly in the realm of the proprietary. Matter may be small in comparison – but sometimes all you need to start if just one bright light.
VR IS NOT TECHS NEXT BIG THING
You have to be careful making confident sounding prognostications about technology.
In 2007, then-CEO of Microsoft Steve Ballmer famously dismissed the iPhone – it didn’t even have a keyboard! – and we all know how that turned out. History is littered with assertions that some new innovation is pointless or doomed, only for it to then take over the world.
Yet, despite years of covering technology and knowing how hard
the future is to predict, I still insist on living dangerously and arguing that virtual reality, or VR, simply isn’t going to be the ‘next big thing’ in tech. Virtual reality is the term given to tech that completely immerses your senses in a virtual world with a headset that projects images into your eyes and sound into your ears. It sounds very futuristic, but there’s increasing evidence that such technology is far less desirable than it appears. It was reported in February that electronics giant Sony halved their production of its latest PSVR2
headset after low preorder numbers indicated weak demand. The Bloomberg article reporting the news suggested that the move “exacerbates lacklustre momentum for the VR sector.
So, fine. Early technology isn’t selling well. That was true of MP3 players and 2 in 1 laptops, too, and they eventually got popular. The low uptake for VR is also understandable. The current tech is both clunky and heavy, while also lacking the sort of visual fidelity to be truly immersive.
Those, however, are problems that almost undoubtedly will be solved with time. Technology shrinks and its capability grows, that seems inevitable.
Rather, what plagues virtual reality is its central premise: That people who want to be immersed in a digital world that cuts them off from their own. It is not only inconvenient and, for social applications, far less compelling than traditional devices – it is also fundamentally escapist and niche, and misses what people actually want out of tech.
You wouldn’t know it looking at some big tech companies, though. Meta rebranded entirely around the promise of a virtual reality “metaverse” – think, 3D Facebook – and has poured billions into the idea. Microsoft has committed to Meta’s vision, while everyone from Apple and Amazon to Nvidia is actively investing in the concept. For big tech, the arrival of VR and the metaverse is fait accompli.
There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical, and not just because Sony can sell headsets – or that Meta, despite investing billions into VR, has almost nothing to show for it. For one, think of the practical use case. In order to virtually socialize with friends, one would have to put on a headset and log on to a virtual world, only to see cartoon representa-
tions of them. It’s not only awkward from a practical standard, it’s also far less appealing than a simple video call in which one can still move unimpeded.
Secondly, the assumption is that because we adopted smartphones so easily, any tech that purports to connect or immerse us will be as eagerly used. That’s a mistake.
Part of the reason a smartphone is so universal is because it is portable, but also adaptive without being isolating – that is, you can use it at home, on transit, at work, at a park, all while remaining aware of one’s surroundings and connected to them. The same cannot be said of a VR headset.
That is not to say that there are no virtual reality applications with a bright future. To the contrary, gaming will continue to evolve and become more appealing. And corporate or professional applications will undoubtedly be useful. Imagine immersing oneself in a 3D design of a building or being able to peer into a virtual replica of an industrial machine. That part of VR is immensely promising.
But there is a chasm of difference between those limited implementations and VR becoming the next great thing in tech. That matters because, too often, people are sold a bill of goods by tech companies promising the world, but who are lost in their own dreams of domination.
Consider: This holiday season, it was impossible to get away from a thoroughly annoying ad campaign for Canadian Tire’s VR Tree Decorator – an inexplicable app for the tiny fraction of Canadians who own VR headsets to plan out their decorations on a virtual Christmas tree.
The whole enterprise would have been funny had it not in fact presented an image of Christmas so achingly sad: a lone mom or dad plugging a headset into a computer in order to find a specific app, and then decorating a virtual tree with virtual ornaments – all so they could eventually get around to
Technology might be notoriously hard to predict. But if that’s a sample of what VR has to offer us, its seems plain as day that it’s not only not the next big thing, but may barely be a
GOOD FRIDAY & EASTER MONDAY

Good Friday is a religious celebration for Christians all over the world & it is celebrated on a Friday falling just before Easter Sunday. This year in April 2023,’ the day will be a following on April 7, 2023’ & is not only an observance but also a statutory holiday in all provinces & territories of Canada, except Quebec, where the day is a partial celebration. The holy day marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his death. The theme of celebrating Good Friday is to practice forgiveness & the day is followed all over the Christian world, i.e. wherever there are followers of Jesus Christ, as a religious holiday. It is celebrated in England as well as it is celebrated in Canada, & many traditions of Good Friday are being taken & adapted as celebrations from Canada.
Other countries that celebrate Good Friday & are Christian-dominated countries include the USA, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Scotland & almost all parts of Europe, including the United Kingdom. It is celebrated in all parts of North America, most parts of South

Australia & New Zealand also celebrate the occasion of Good Friday as part of the countries from Oceania. Thus, most parts of the world follow Good Friday as Christianity is the most followed religion of the world, followed by Islam. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon in spring (after March 21), which can occur as early as March 22 and as late as April 25.
Both Good Friday & Easter Sunday celebrates the sacrifice of Jesus for the religion Christianity.
HOW IS GOOD FRIDAY AN OBSERVANCE IN CANADA?
Good Friday falls this year on April 7, 2023’ & will be observed in Canada as a public holiday in all its Provinces & territories except Quebec. In this French-speaking province, it is partially celebrated. It is a silent day of mourning & quiet prayers amongst the Christians. Some Catholics observe a partial fast on Good Friday & do not eat any meat. Thus, most precisely,
there is strict abstinence from meat on a Good Friday.
Hot Cross Buns are a traditional treat on a Good Friday & these are traditions coming from medieval times. These hot cross buns are small in size & bread-like buns. The top part of a hot cross bun is marked with a cross and covered with a sugar glaze. The Hot Cross buns can be taken in any form, split, and spread with butter or toasted.
THE VARIOUS SYMBOLS OF EASTER & GOOD FRIDAY:

THAN ORIGINALLY EXPECTED?
With the rapidly changing temperatures worldwide, a question is being raised with many raised eyebrows. Is climate change happening at a faster rate than expected? Otherwise, are the scientists making us aware of climate change & the fast-changing temperatures needing some technical advantage? All these questions are lined up merely as climate change is a huge cause of rapidly changing weather conditions. Especially witnessed these changing temperatures in many parts of Europe & North America.
There are millions of people all across the world who are experiencing the effects of climate change firsthand. The blistering heat waves have smashed temperature records around the globe this summer, including scorching crops, knocking out power, fueling wildfires, buckling roads and
runways and likely killing thousands in number, thousands alone in the continent of Europe.
Remembering the previous summer holidays spent in London while roaming around & shopping in London city Centre. Temperatures in July 2022 in London and Hamburg in Northern Germany teetered over an edge that seemed unthinkable in previous centuries: 104 degrees (40 Celsius). Can you believe that? Well, I can, as I was there & never expected the mercury to reach that scorching heat in the most pleasantly witnessed Julys of the yesteryears where London is supposed to be the ideal place to visit in England. This time around, in July 2022, I witnessed it as the hottest-ever summer in England. No wonder, although my roots are from Asia, I couldn’t take the scorching heat & the
boiling hot sun. The same question was something I had to ask myself, Is Climate change happening faster than we originally expected? Or the impact is just too hot to handle.
IS THE CLIMATE CHANGE LARGELY TO BE BLAMED FOR THE EXTREME HEAT WAVES?
Yet another question has arisen regarding the heat wave & yet another eyebrow has been raised, is there more than one answer, or is there any other answer for climate change other than the heat wave? Global Warming has established a hotter baseline for summer temperatures, dramatically increasing the odds of more frequent, extreme, and longer-lasting heat waves. Global Warming has been the right answer, as study after study has shown & proved with obvious results. The worst part of global Warming & climate change is the heat wave length that has increased substantially over the years. This is something witnessed in Europe & Canada, including British Columbia, precisely Vancouver.
According to Otto, the Co-lead of World Weather Attribution, ‘Climate Change is the driver behind the heat wave, just as it is driving every heat wave now.’ He also added that Heat waves that used to be rare in past years are now very common, or one can say more common. Also, the heat waves that were termed as impossible to happen are now killing people as stats are rising. The previous summers in Vancouver, British Columbia, raised the level of mercury to 46 degrees Celcius, which is the most recorded in at least 50 years and killed many people.
IS THE CLIMATE CHANGE UNFOLDING FASTER THAN THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE SCIENTISTS?
Well, the statement is partially true & partially wrong, as many experts claimed that it’s happening at the right time & with the right & most justified pace. However, for most, the answer, at least in the broad sense, is a no. In fact, what’s more factual is that the linked rise in greenhouse gas levels and the global average rise in temperatures has tracked tightly within the spread of model predictions. This is even dating back to the 70s from the era of the cruder climate stimulations.
WHAT MIGHT BE THE OTHER FORCES CONTRIBUTING TO VERY HOT HEAT WAVES?
There are contributions from other sources that are also contributing to very hot heat waves. A larger variety of researchers are exploring the degree of the contributions from other forces. According to Lehner, a researcher, ‘There has been constant efforts regards to the exploring of the degree to which certain forces could be exacerbating heat waves and whether they are accurately presented in the model.’
The answer that science has regards to other forces includes the potential feedback effects, which include the drying out of plants and soil in some vital regions. It is justifiably beyond certain thresholds, and this can be a cause of the acceleration of Warming during the heat waves. Thus, the evaporation effect is otherwise going into evaporating water goes to work warming the air.
However, in most cases, the scientists are right regards to their predictions for rising temperatures.
Now, the question is what needs to be done for the prevention of Global Warming to climate change. It can’t be stopped. However, at least the length of the heat wave can be controlled. The hazards that are related to climate change and the Global warming effects need to be reduced as part of the precautionary weather threats. It is indeed an issue that Scientists & Researchers need to think about together while they come up with feasibility plans & solutions. It is on the top agenda of President Joe Biden, the 46th US President, who said in his inaugural speech regards to Climate Change & how America intends to fight the issue, along with their neighbours Canada.

The Digital Transformations & The Paperless Simplicity
This is the digital world & the world of digital transformations, which is the start of the era of being 'Paperless.' The term' Paperless Simplicity' is not new. However, its combination with being 'paperless' & being 'simple' adds to the many benefits of the digital transformation. Leaving paper notes for your colleagues is no more a norm. However, the new norm is leaving digital messages, i.e., using digital media, like WhatsApp, for audio messages. These are messages where a user can even clear the history known as WhatsApp history to save space on WhatsApp or other similar digital media applications.
As far as the environmental advantages are concerned, the paperless simplicity means a lot in regards to saving paper & saving the environment. How it adds to the campaign regards to environmental sustainability as a key factor as being paperless owes plenty to the environment, the planet, & many aspects associated with the environment in terms of its sustenance and cost savings.
However, the many other benefits of paperless simplicity that add to digital transformations are the ones that will be discussed below in more detail;
IMPROVED PRODUCTIVITY:
It's a massive source of improved productivity as quickly locating and understanding the information can enhance your company's efficiency & overall image. It's not the era of spending time hunting through piles of paper. Slows down the response time in an age when most answers are just a few keystrokes away.
The essential paperwork, which is a necessity, must stay there. However, for the sake of making productivity more efficient, it's digital transformations that are a necessity.
What can more paperless give in terms of improved productivity? Well, there are many things, & many advantages. However, the biggest one is the information retrieval time & the information is far more organized in digital formats. Some people still prefer using paper for the sake of psychological concerns and as part of the trends. Hence, many people like to maintain old-fashioned paperwork. Yes, we are dealing more proactively & more efficiently with the importance of productivity.
REDUCING THE OPERATING COSTS:
How it contributes to the cash flows is amazing to see. It highly reduces operating costs, which means fewer expenses for maintaining file works. Lesser printing costs as well & the overall impact is bringing reductions in the operating costs.
Does it matter for an established business? It might not, however, for a startup, it might be very important as they need to reduce the costs to larger extents than as compared to more established & sustained businesses.
Companies also go for cost reductions as part of their CSR activities. CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility is part of the growth agenda of MNCs & established companies & they prefer these practices for enhancing their CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility values.
MAINTAINING A DIGITAL IMAGE:
Companies need to manage their digital image and prefer paperless simplicity for their digital transformations. The maintenance of the digital culture & the digital image is part of the company's agendas when they are undergoing digital transformations.
It is a huge advantage later on as it might not be that big in the early stages, though.
EASIER COLLABORATIONS:
Going paperless also increases your ability the sake of collaborations both internally & externally. With the online signature capabilities or consent, you no longer have to wait. Just save yourself the time & the frustrations of the paperwork.
It makes collaborations more inclined towards being e-collaborations & digital collaborations are indeed the new culture in this digital age.
INCREASED LEVELS OF SECURITY:
By going paperless, the security levels are increasing & you can better adhere to new data compliance requirements, like GDPR, i.e. General Data Protection Regulation. This is a restriction applied, which means file access is restricted for specific personnel only. Just as we are working in a sensitive
facility or a security zone & while patrolling around, one finds a locked room that says, locked for security reasons, or access denied & restricted only for restricted personnel.
The applied restrictions obviously are a massive factor as it increases the levels of security, i.e. as it does in the security zone. Multiple backups can also be created on and offsite, while data recovery & data protection are the ones significantly improved.
ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND:
We are living in an ecology-conscious society, and it is essential to consider the key business implications of your environmental impact. When you make the decision to go paperless, it dramatically reduces your organization's consumption of valuable resources. Obviously, this also boosts the ecological status of the public & the clients.
Digital transformations have got a number of advantages; however, there are still few who want to stick to the old ways of file maintenance or keeping up with the paperwork. Eventually, to enjoy the benefits, the transformations should take place at a decent pace.
THE IMPORTANCE OF PHYSICAL & MENTAL HEALTH FOR YOUR CAREER GOALS
The level of significance for the physical & mental health of your career goals is paramount in terms of the level of achievements. In comparison, we assume that your work experience & your academic history is most celebrated & most appreciated. These days, there is a massive reliance or a massive involvement regards to physical & mental health for all your career goals.
From the time you were born, the days of your Montessori, then your primary school & later your secondary education & most recently, your higher education. All contribute towards your career goals to an extent you might not relate to.
However, at the same time, the heavy involvement of physical & mental health these days adds to your career achievements. The stress levels should be something that you need to deal with so that you find yourself in a far better state. Just as they say 'All work & no play makes Jack a dull boy'. Physical & mental health can lead you to have more energy, be far more productive & have higher levels of effectiveness at the workplace. It's a routine to take care of the workplace norms & ethics, however, your physical & mental health contributes towards your state of mind & generally your attitude at the work place.
Therefore, this might be the best time to consider how improving your physical & mental health can lead to or contribute to enhanced career success.
THE ROLE OF PHYSICAL MOVEMENT THROUGHOUT THE WORK DAY:
It's the role of daily physical movements throughout the work day that will make your day an energetic one as well as an effective one indeed. Whether you commute to work or work from home, sitting all day takes a toll on the body. Remaining in a sedentary position all day with your workstation, i.e. for hours on end, sends signals to your brain that you are "powering down". Just like your
mobile needs random charging after a while, you need to switch your body movements or posture at least once or twice an hour. Something, which is mandatory regarding your ergonomics, i.e. related to human-computer interaction issues. Some of the light exercises in the middle of your work time at the workplace or even working from home includes;
• Dynamic stretching, i.e. stretching while sitting around or making movements of stretching in a standing position.
• Taking a quick jog while on your lunch break is an effective exercise.
• If you have to move to a different floor, just avoid using the lifts & instead prefer to take the stairs.
• Try a bit of yoga on extra-long conference calls.
THE MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS:
It's a fact that your mental health matters & it makes good waves for you at work & also helps you enjoy the work environment. Just try to get some relief from the extra work pressure that can easily be a huge cause of a burnout.
If you are part of the think-tank, it can affect you make the desired plan & strategy that you might look to implement as part of the operational strategy. Mental health at work is seen as a very important part of your work, as people who are good while interacting with people one-to-one are considered as most reliable & friendly resources at the workplace.
Your positive mental health helps you understand the environment & be far more flexible with what you need to do & how you plan doing it.
TAKE REGULAR BREAKS:
Continuous work is in most circumstances a cause of chaos & sometimes can even result in a state of confusion. Just take some regular breaks that would allow you to brainstorm & gather your thoughts or even make them more aligned with the agenda. While you are in a difficult situation at the workplace or in a long meeting. Just take some time to destress and decompress & make yourself normal. Sometimes, you good to walk away a bit far from the place or location of the meeting & enjoy a cup of coffee with a little chit-chat with a colleague or someone who is part of a conference you are attending.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH SLEEP:
Your sleeping habits should be at least 7-8 hours of continuous night sleep to avoid stressful situations. Be more strict with your sleep patterns & your sleeping habits should make you a strict sleeper at the same time every night. Just keep telling yourself that you wouldn't like to take a yawn in front of your seniors or your client.
Proper sleep also helps you regards to mental fitness apart from the daily physical fitness which is obviously as necessary as the mental one. Walking for at least 30 minutes before you take your sleep will be a cause of a better night's sleep than the usual one. Always take care of what you are having before you get to bed.
All the above will surely help you find the right balance & also helps you be more composed at work. When work is a priority, you must ensure you get along nicely with all five working days instead of three or even four.

Trends In The Business Travel Hotel Industry
The International hospitality industry has been one of the hardest hit sectors, if not the hardest, during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. However, it’s the recovery phase that is just underway. The new challenges are giving rise to new trends & ways of operating. These are some of the trends that are dominating the hospitality sector. It is a high expectation that the hotel costs will rise in the New Year, i.e. in 2023. The world will see more digital transformations, and automation is rising. Sustainability in the hospitality sector is considered a Top priority as sustainability is necessary after the shakiness seen in the last couple of years. Part of the challenges in the trends is the staff shortages that remain a hospitality industry challenge.
Finally, the WFH or Work from the Hotel environment is seen as a rising trend as it was well before the arrival of the pandemic. An environment that suits many people, especially those gearing up themselves for the conferences, working together & meeting up for company goals & looking to sustain in a Work from Hotel environment which is a highly wanted one for the future.
As we discuss the trends more closely in detail, we assume that COVID-19 is over in most parts of the world. Also, assuming that most countries are no more following the strict & used to be mandatory procedures for the sake of COVID-19 preventive measures, which include wearing masks & maintaining social distancing that has
been practiced in the years of the pandemic.
THE HOTEL COSTS WILL BE ON THE RISE IN THE YEAR 2023:
The costs of Hotels in the Hospitality industry, especially in the continent of North America, will be on the rise in 2023. This is especially to cover the expenses & the losses from the period of COVID-19. The worldwide hotel rates are expected to rise in 2023, however, at a rate lower than in 2022 & these are stats according to American Express Global Business Travel Report.
This substantial increase in the cost is partly due to inflation, as generally, the costs have risen and also due to pent-up demand for in-person events.
Also, the prices for key hotel inputs such as energy, food and wages have increased obviously, which impacts the overall cost of a hotel stay.
The general rise in 2023 regards to the costs of hotels in the Hospitality sector is also highly dedicated to the increase in the cost of living in North America.
SUSTAINABILITY IS A HIGHER-LEVEL PRIORITY IN THE HOSPITALITY SECTOR:
Sustainability is found to be a higher-level priority in the hospitality sector in Canada & generally in the continent of North America. It is a target by 2030, i.e. in the next seven years; the hotels will need to reduce their carbon footprints by 68%. Apart from the carbon footprints, the lighting systems in the hospitality sector should be largely focused on energy efficiency & saving energy for the sake of saving costs. The targets that the Hotel & Hospitality Industry regards to bringing reductions in carbon footprints are more towards a dedicated effort regards to the Paris-Climate agreement.
STAFF SHORTAGES REMAIN TO BE A CHALLENGE:
It is the entire business travel eco-system that is suffering big time from the shortages of trained, skilled staff currently. The Hotel industry is looking forward to filling the many numbers of jobs that were lost during the COVID-19 pandemic that affected many sectors in the job industry. It is only in the United States of America that more than a figure of 115,000 jobs is opened in the hospitality industry alone.
In Europe, the situation is a bit different in contrast to what it has been in North America. Europe’s hotel industry is not only in a recovery mode from COVID-19 but also from geopolitical tensions, according to the stats from WTTC or World Travel & Tourism Council, which reports that approximately 1.25 Million jobs in the travel & tourism sector have remained unfulfilled across the European Union. This has resulted in the hiring of people who do not even have experience in the hotel industry.
