Dear Readers,

March is here with the 87th edition of MBE Business Magazine

Not only was February 2nd, Ground Hog day, the whole month seemed to be Ground Hog month when compared to January. Unseasonably mild temperatures and very little snow highlighted January and February which are supposed to be the cruelest and coldest months of the year. For someone like myself who didn’t believe in Global Warming, I am now having second thoughts.

As we turn the calendar to March, spring is just around the corner. You know winter is pretty well over when baseball starts it spring training and basketball and hockey are in their respective stretch drives before the playoffs begin.

Four significant days in March are daylight savings time, St Patrick’s Day, First day of spring and the beginning of Ramadan.

Daylight Savings Time begins every year on the 2nd Sunday of March. At 2:00 A.M. (est) Sunday morning (Saturday night) on March 12th, the opposite of what we did in October, we do in March. The clocks are turned ahead one hour providing us with an additional hour of daylight. Although we lose an hour of sleep, we now have longer days of sunlight.

St Patrick’s Day falls on March 17th to honour the Patron Saint of Ireland, St. Patrick. He played a significant role in introducing and celebrating the Irish culture across the world. The most notable tradition that has lasted over the years is the tradition of wearing "green". Many pubs, bars, and restaurants host parties, or have special offers to honor the day.

March 20th is the first official day of spring (spring equinox). It happens every year usually on March 20 (some years it can take place on March 19 or 21), and it is the day that marks the beginning of spring. Although we may get the occasional winter storm, with warmer temperatures, it usually doesn’t take long for the snow to melt.

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, a holy month for Muslims, who fast, pray and practice introspection during this time. In 2023, Ramadan begins on March 22 and ends on April 20 with the celebration of Eid.

Ramadan is a time for Muslims to practice introspection and better themselves, by practicing self-discipline and control, as well as a time to strengthen their faith and devotion. This is why fasting is practiced during Ramadan, as it is believed to cleanse the soul, and redirect the heart away from worldly sins and into spiritual improvement.

Women hold a very prestigious & symbolic value in our lives. In our every day lives, women play many different roles and all are important. It could be your mother, your sister, your daughter, your friend or your wife who is your soul mate and life partner. You can't live without the ladies & their love; your life is meaningless & aimless.

Just imagine the role of a mother in your life. The woman who gave birth to you, provided you nourishment when you were weak and gave you strength by providing you food.

WOMAN AS A MOTHER IN YOUR LIFE:

The role of a woman as a mother is surely the most important. She is the one who helped you take that first step or picked you up when you were down. She is the real woman in your life who builds your personality & also gives you the consciousness between what's good for you & what's bad. She is the first institution that developed in your mind the difference between the good & the bad.

Many people say to me that we don't have respect or we lack respect for women. I tell them that's because you don't respect them. First, you need to give respect and then in return, you will be given the proper respect whether in your role as a son, a brother, a father, a friend and lastly, as a husband. If you give the woman the desired respect, she won't let you have your meal yourself. She would, in fact, insist too much deeper regarding feeding you by hand herself. It is something with the psychology of a woman who loves when given due respect. Now after giving due respect, just imagine the role of a woman in your life, i.e. so much evident in so many forms.

Just see the enjoyment of all these relationships. A woman

like your mother makes you feel so luxurious & so overwhelmed. You feel so peaceful when you are with your mother & feel so valued & blessed by God. Can you deny the love of your mother, who cared for you when you were just a little toddler?

WOMAN IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP AS A SISTER:

A woman as a sister in your relationship is just adorable as your home is complete with your sister. Your home is found to be incomplete when there is no sister in your home & the environment is just so lonely & isolated. Your home doesn't even look organized as your sister in your home makes your home so organized & makes you feel the comfort of the home.

You should imagine the height of the relationship, i.e., your relationship with your sister.

THE ROLE OF A WOMAN AS YOUR DAUGHTER:

Now comes the role of a woman as a daughter. Someone who takes good care of you. You just can't imagine the depth of a woman's role as a daughter and how she is always there to lend a helping hand for both parents, and fathers usually have a closer relationship with their daughters compared to their sons.

Most of you who have sons might have experienced how sons are so different from daughters. Once they are married, they tend to migrate towards their wife's side of the family. On the other hand, the daughter's role is to nurture their parents with intense care & with extreme humbleness. A daughter shares with her parents when they go through any pain and agony. You just need to imagine how big of a blessing the daughter is while being a shadow of her parents.

Just before moving towards the relationship as a wife. First, I would first like to acknowledge that in all three relationships, i.e. mother, sister & daughter, the common thing & the element that binds the relationship together is love, love and pure love. In all these three relationships, you have given love. Therefore, you have been given love in return. In fact, in all these three relationships, you have given something & that's why you got something back in return. In all these three relationships, you have done a partnership & you have shared your good self with them. It's a belief that you make your life a curse once you get married. You just can't compare these three relationship & compare that with your wife.

THE RELATIONSHIP & ROLE OF A WOMAN AS YOUR WIFE:

Now comes the relationship, which is your life partner, i.e. your wife or your soulmate. You just want to take rather than give, which is wrong. You want money from your wife as soon as you get married to her. You also want money from her while she earns money. You also want her to work round-the-clock in your home as well & provide her responsibilities as a homemaker. You want her to raise your kids, which is the most important thing.

You, as a husband, only want from your wife & you don't want to give anything to her. Just treat your wife differently, apart from the other three relationships: mother, sister & daughter.

THE MESSAGE IS SIMPLE- 'DIGNITY & RESPECT FOR WOMEN IN ALL ROLES:

I just salute all the women. They just need respect and above all, respect. It's the sole responsibility of a man as a thinker that the way you think for your mother, sister & daughter, think similarly full of affection for your wife. If we think the same for our wife as we think for our other three relationships, i.e. same power & same liberties, surely you will enjoy the relationship to a maximum. You will enjoy the true essence of a husband-wife relationship.

I hope I have succeeded in trying to convey a very important message when it comes to the dignity and worth of a women's respect. My dear friends, if you give respect to women, the entire system of your family will improve. If you give her liberty, the overall family system will be worthwhile. You can surely bring better means of bread & butter to your home. These little tips are like Gold to you in your life.

THE GROWTH FACTOR

How Good Is This Current Market for Investments from Both the Investors & Consumer Perspective?

As we all know, the Canadian Real Estate market is currently undergoing chaos regarding whether people must buy or sell. Undoubtedly, the market is currently undergoing a confused state & people's decision is overshadowed due to the market's unexpected behaviours. This confusion, regarded as inflation or recession, is obviously causing some disturbances regarding the investor's buying & selling decisions.

THE INTEREST RATES ARE ON A HIGH:

The main issue is that the interest rate is high. Due to increased interest rates, the affordability levels of people have become low, i.e. they can't afford the buying decision. On the other hand, if we see at the buying market, the prices have been reduced by a significant margin, i.e. 30 % to 40% reductions. The property that was $1.7M now is easily available to people in $1.1 M, range especially

those who are property experts who have a know-how of the same, i.e. properties ups & downs.

It's not easy to earn $6000 after tax dollars in this country as most of us know, it's hard! How can someone spend their whole $6K on a mortgage? There are other living expenses for those who can afford $6K for the mortgage. He might also afford a good car. Therefore, the person should earn $10K after tax

deductions to afford a $6K mortgage amount. However, in Canada, only a few people can earn a net income of $10K, i.e. after tax deductions.

We need to see more closely how to manage such a scenario best. The most important thing we need to see concerns our cash flow which will enable us to make a decision on whether we are first time buyer of an investor.

EXAMPLE OF A CASE SCENARIO:

Let's take an example: we looked at a home in the month of Jan. for $1.7M and now it's worth is $1.2M, i.e. we have a savings of $500,000. In January, the mortgage amount was $4K. Now it's $6K, i.e. $2K is the increased net expense. The market conditions, i.e., inflation or recession, will stay there for more years. Some experts say that it will be fine till the end of this month, while other experts have a different opinion & they think it will stay like this till the mid of 2024.

It will stay like this for two years, as one must take precautions and think in the long run.

The $2000 we pay extra each month, adds up to $24K for the year and for the two years, it will be $48K. Let's say that the growth doesn't happen according to my circumstances. If you research as everyone does regarding recession periods, you will see for yourself, i.e. all the property recessions you have seen in the past have a 3% to 5% growth rate. I am talking about the recession period in 2008, whether 2018 or 2022. Eventually, the market comes back as it has the tendency to come back & it improves according to previous market trends.

WHAT'S THE BEST ADVICE?

As an investor, you should make a 200% investment, as it's a very good

market & if you won't invest now, when will you do it? People who fail don't do their math & don't do their calculations, which is very wrong, as they are more speculative.

Think like an investor, as an investor must think in the long run and think with a big heart. All you need is the right people, the right guidance, the right locations and enough capital to back you. Finally, the desired cash flow is always a plus.

If you can't cover the gap, you don't have to do it. If you can cover the gaps, 100% it's advisable to buy this time. Manage your cash flows, make buying decisions, & according to my expert advice, it's preferable to invest & in 2025, you shall earn money with the market with good returns.

Always take the day & the challenge of a new day with a fresh perspective & a new strategy. You don’t have to recall your hard times. You need to think positively & recall the good times. Your best accomplishments are associated with your work & what you did to gain the advantage over your competitors, how you took a challenging task with ease & what strategy you devised to take that challenge.

A fresh perspective is a huge ingredient for success, as success comes with loads of striving & lots of strategies behind it. Don’t have to assume that you have done enough.

TESLA ISN’T THE FUTURE OF

Mercedes are growing rapidly in Europe eclipsing Tesla in some countries, while Chinese brand BYD has started to outsell the company in China, a key market.

With deadlines for the end of sales of gas powered cars approaching, the electric car is shifting from futuristic specialty item to commodity.

That’s great news for the future of electrification, but it makes Tesla’s aim of differentiation much harder, particularly as its advantage of a proprietary supercharger network gets eroded by growing investment in charging infrastructure.

If it’s not worrying Elon Musk, it’s not showing: he told staff just last month to ignore stock price fluctuations and repeated his assertion that Tesla would go on to become the most valuable company in the world.

But it’s hard to see how Tesla might reach those grand ambitions.

For one, Tesla’s competitors are only at the beginning of their electric vehicle (EV) transition. If another company such as VW, beats Tesla to a car priced more for the mass market, then Tesla will struggle to maintain its huge lead, especially if the expected economic downturn comes to pass and buyers shy away from Tesla’s expensive lineup.

More broadly, Tesla’s huge valuation and the idea that it would utterly dominate was always based on the idea that

Yet, both that dream and the genius of Muck seem far more dubious than they once did. Autonomous driving is a far harder problem than anyone realized, and Musk’s promises of “full self-driving” remain unfulfilled. Tesla’s solar roof tiles never really materialized and the focus on clean energy has all but dissipated.

Meanwhile, Musk’s tenure at Twitter, to make no mention of his tweets, has seriously undermined his reputation as a brilliant visionary. And this is all to say nothing of a growing movement casting doubt on the very idea that a car-centric lifestyle represents the future at all.

Yes, it’s true, in many markets, Tesla still vastly outsells its EV competitors and Tesla customer satisfaction remains the highest in the industry.

Yet even that isn’t a recipe for a world changing company or one that might usurp Apple or Exxon. Rather, it’s simply a model for a car company, a fine one, even a successful one, but just a car company all the same.

MASSIVE LAYOFFS AT GOOGLE EXPOSE FIRM’S UGLY SIDE

Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company, is the latest tech giant to announce significant layoffs.

In a memo, which was sent last month to fellow “Googlers,” CEO Sundar Pichai announced that the company will let 12,000 employees go. This is equivalent to about 6% of its worldwide workforce.

The magnitude of the layoffs is puzzling given the fact that the company is extremely profitable. According to most recent financial

data, for the past 12 months, revenue stood at $282 billion (U.S.) and net income at $67 billion.

The company sits on mountains of cash- it has $116 billion in its bank account and is spending around $60 billion annually on share buybacks, a practice which helps inflate its share price.

Moreover, just six months ago, during the 3rd quarter of 2022, Google was on a hiring spree, adding 12,000 new jobs. Hence, the explanation Pichai provided

in his memo – “we hired for a different economic reality than the one we face today” – is unconvincing, especially since he also highlighted the exciting opportunities the company is facing in the future, mostly in the AI (artificial intelligence) space.

A more likely explanation is that the axe was the result of pressure from Wall Street to deliver even better financial results. For example, in November, TCI, an activist hedge fund, with a $6 billion stake in the company, sent a letter to Pichai arguing that

Alphabet “has too many employees and the cost per employee is too high … (it) needs to take aggressive action. In a second letter, dated Jan. 20, 2023 – after the layoffs were announced – TCI’s fund manager, Christopher Hohn, writes to Pichai and the board of directors: “I have appreciated our recent dialogue concerning Alphabet’s cost base. I am encouraged to see that you are now taking some action to right size Alphabet’s cost base.” Yet, Hohn argues that additional layoffs are required for a total of 20% of the company’s head count.

But independent of whether the layoffs were due to bad planning on the company’s part or in response to pressure from investors and analysts, it’s the brutality in which the company executed them that really stands out.

“I appear to have been let go via an automated account deactivation at 3 am this morning” Justin Moore, an engineering manager who worked at Google for 16 years, wrote on LinkedIn. Moore must have been pretty good at his job if he kept it for so long in a competitive firm like Google. Yet, none of this mattered. Many other employees shared similar stories of being fired “electronically” in the middle of the night –“Elon Musk style.”

Less than a week after announcing disappointing 4th quarter results, Google has started trimming jobs in Canada as well. The job cuts, which are part of a 12,000 person downsizing announced in January, began to take effect last month, company spokesperson Lauren Skelly confirmed via email.

While Skelly wouldn’t comment on the size or location of the cuts in Canada, it appeared that many of the job losses were in the Kitchener Waterloo area and involved people who had worked on the company’s now shuttered cloud based video game service, Stadia, judging by postings on LinkedIn and other social media sites.

Within days of Pichai’s announcement, Google shared that it would close the Edmonton office owned by its artificial intelligence subsidiary DeepMind. The U.K. headquartered subsidiary plans to consolidate its remaining operations, but maintain its Montreal and Toronto offices, which are located within Google managed buildings

There is no doubt that rolling out mass layoffs at a large, multinational corporation like Google is extremely difficult and carries its own risks. Laid off employees can look for revenge, steal data, etc. Yet, “unplugged” employees who spent their entire careers with the company in the middle of the night, is as cruel as it gets.

This is all the more depressing when it occurs at a company whose mottos for the longest time have been “don’t do evil” and “do the right thing.”

Here is a short quote from Google’s old code of conduct where the company elaborates on the motto of “don’t do evil”: “Trust and mutual respect among employees and users are the foundation of our success, and are something we need to earn every day.” It feels like a joke in today’s context. Why was it so urgent for CEO Sundar Pinchai – who received total compensation on $294.3 million over the past three years – to fire 12,000 people now when the company has $116 billion in cash?

Couldn’t the CEO who brags about how a “healthy disregard for the impossible is core to our culture” come up with a better solution?

Maybe give employees who underperform a warning first? How about an overall pay cut across the board of say, 5%? (The median salary at Google is about $300,000.) That would have resulted in similar payroll savings and all employees could have kept their jobs

Hedge fund managers may be thrilled by the cost cutting at Google, but the destruction of trust it entailed could backfire. Googlers (as well as Amzonians, Metamates, etc.) will realize that no one really cares about them. They might work a bit harder for fear of being next on the chopping block, but their hearts are already elsewhere.

And when the time is right, they will be opportunistic themselves and walk out the door.

Improvements to Binary Politics

Many Western Countries are effectively Two-Party Democracies. Leading to Binary Elections – voting ‘Out’ or ‘In’, making it much easier for the Wealthy and Powerful to control the outcome; and influencing many not to vote. For instance, in Canada: Liberals or Conservatives, in the United States: Republicans or Democrats, in the United Kingdom: Labour or Conservatives have formed each Government over the past 10 plus Elections.

Current Binary Politics bypasses ‘Classical Democracy’. Replaced by ‘Political Party Theory’, where most Voters have insignificant input, in either, their representative or the Political Platform.

A theoretically intelligent Human who automatically votes 100 % of the time for one party (and its entire platform) over another party (and their platform), may be bringing that intelligence into question!

Purportedly in a Democracy, one Eligible Person gets one Vote, and if that Person does not accept any of the ballot suggestions, a mechanism is needed to register their displeasure, as a Vote. Following Leonardo’s advice; to record your resistance at the onset!

The 2016 U.S. Presidential Election had 251 million eligible voters, of which 135 million did vote (Clinton 65 million – 26 %, Trump 63 – 25 %, and others 7 – 3 %). Therefore 116 million (46 %, almost equal to Clinton and Trump combined) were considered to have not voted. These folks did indeed Vote by Not-Voting! With a two-year Presidential Campaign period and billions spent on marketing and communication there could not have been many Americans (perhaps none) unaware of the Presidential Candidates; confirming they Voted by Not-Voting. But these 116 million potential votes were not recorded. But could easily have been marked in the ballot area “NOTA”; thereby, having have a significant impact on whom should be presented as a Candidate: avoiding necessary follow-up Elections.

Just as 4,200 or so Religions are allowed to operate independent of Government (in most countries), Businesses can also function separately (but adhering to the laws and regulations set by the State, as Religions do).

Andrei Dmitrievich Sakharov is, “[…] quite aware of the monstrous relations in human and international affairs brought forth by the egotistical principle of capital when it is not under pressure from socialist and progressive forces.” Separation of Church and State (Wikipedia): “[…] is a philosophic and jurisprudential concept for defining political distance in the relationship between religious organizations and the nation state.” We must now determine an acceptable unbiased political distance for businesses (especially very large corporations) from the nation state.

Moving the needle one more notch, we can separate the business community from direct entanglement with the Government (as with the spiritual communities); separating human demands from Business Demands: Profits and Market Values. Individual citizens could be assured just laws and regulations will be established by the State, allowing the Church and Business to collaborate with Humanity.

John Kenneth Galbraith in 1987 put forth; “The great dialectic in our time is not, as anciently and by some still supposed, between capital and labor; it is between economic enterprise and the state.” Essential HI discussion obligatory!

The intently studied Jean-Jacque Rousseau in 1762 accentuates: “[…] one unique and absolute arrangement of government would not be proper for every State, but that there can be as many governments different in nature as there are States of degrees of greatness.” Rousseau continued emphasizing over 250 years ago; governments are required to be entrenched to resolve the predicament arising within a money-based society. In 2022 we are headed in a misguided direction!
