YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED How long do they last?
An apprenticeship can last anywhere from 1-4 years depending on the type of qualification and the level you are working towards.
How much time do I spend in the classroom?
How much time you spend in the classroom will depend on the type of apprenticeship you are doing. You are typically employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week and learn both on the job and at one of Northern Skills training facilities. This usually equates to spending 4 days in work and 1 day in the classroom. You will be allocated a personal assessor who will visit your place of work and provide feedback and support during your programme.
How will I be assessed?
Each apprenticeship programme is assessed slightly differently through different methods such as:

How much will I get paid?
As an apprentice, you are entitled to the national apprentice wage, however many employers choose to pay more than this or increase the rate after the employee has been within the company for a certain amount of time. Find out the latest apprenticeship minimum wage.
What is my holiday entitlement?
As an employee you are entitled to a minimum of 20 days per holiday year, in addition to bank holidays. Your employer may offer more than this or increase your entitlement once you have been there longer.

Business Our apprenticeships will give you the essential knowledge and skills to be successful in business. You will develop transferable skills such as planning, research analysis, working with others and effective communication. There are a range of standards available to suit a variety of office-based roles including administration, customer services, management and accountancy. CAREER PROGRESSION On completion, the apprentice could progress into the Level 3 Customer Service Specialist apprenticeship or into career roles such as customer service specialist, management, business administration or a senior support role.
You must have achieved GCSE English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above, or Functional Skills Level 2. Individual employers may also set their own entry requirements.
On completion, the apprentice could progress into an Assistant Accountant role on the AAT Level 3 apprenticeship.

Employers will set their own entry requirements, but it is expected that the individual would have worked with an operational role within the industry to start on this apprenticeship standard. Applicants are required to have gained a Level 2 English and maths (GCSE grade 4 (C) or above).
Progression from this apprenticeship could be into a hospitality management position via full-time employment, or a Level 4/ higher apprenticeship.

If you aspire to support children and young people to succeed in their education and development, or support practitioners and patients in a healthcare setting, an apprenticeship is a great way to develop your skills in a practical setting. Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.
The standard is recognised by the relevant professional bodies at Registered Science Technician (RSciTech) level. There is a requirement that the technician will participate in continuing professional development on completion of the apprenticeship. This standard meets the professional standards of the Engineering Council for registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech). Registration is subject to candidates successfully completing the appropriate learning, developing the appropriate competence, and undergoing professional review.
Individual employers will set the selection criteria for their apprentices. Most candidates will have achieved grade 4 (C) or above in English and maths and a STEM related subject at Level 2 prior to commencement of apprenticeship.
This standard aligns to the core engineering skills required for similar occupations in other industries. There are numerous pathways for multi-positional welders who may wish to pursue higher level careers in welding. These include progression to high integrity welder, welding instruction and teaching, welding inspection and managing and supervising welding operations.
42 months
Candidates are required to have 5 GCSEs at grade 4(C) and above including maths, English and a science, technology or engineering related subject, or 90+ credits in an Engineering BTEC at Level 3.
Upon completion of this apprenticeship, you could progress to a degree apprenticeship in Manufacturing Engineering.
24 months (+3 months EPA)
Applicants are required to have gained their Level 2 English and maths grades 4(C) and above. If you do not have the required grades, you will be required to continue studying English and maths throughout your apprenticeship.
This apprenticeship could allow you to progress into higher level management roles within the Engineering industry as well as further study, for example a degree in engineering or leadership and management.

Applicants are required to have gained a Level 2 English and Maths (GCSE Grades 9-4 / A-C) or Functional Skills Level 2 and a Level 3 qualification (diploma, A Levels, Access to HE). Applicants without Level 3 qualifications need to evidence work experience/prior engagement with audio-visual technology.
After this apprenticeship you are prepared to continue fulltime employment in the Audiovisual technology sector. You may also progress to the BSc (Hons) Audiovisual Technology programme delivered by Middlesbrough College.

Applicants are required to have gained a Level 2 English and maths (GCSE grades 9-4 / A-C). If you do not have a grade 9 to 4 in English and / or maths (grade A-C for previous GCSE measures) you will be required to continue studying these subjects.
Possible progression route to Level 4 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or full-time employment.
