MCADAMS OUR SERVICES The services we offer at McAdams are comprehensive and unique. We provide a full array of services which can be utilized on a project as the project, client and consulting team requires. These capabilities include: › Geomatics › Civil Engineering › Stormwater › Stream + Wetland Design › Land Planning › Urban Planning + Design › Landscape Architecture › Transportation › Construction Administration

GEOMATICS SERVICES At McAdams, our field crews and office staff are focused on accuracy and timeliness to help our clients achieve their vision. Our team of professional land surveyors are all equipped with the latest field equipment and software to produce accurate plats, legal descriptions and maps. Our Geomatics department is knowledgeable about the historical and legal aspects of surveying and works with our other departments to proactively handle a property’s past so that the future vision can be realized. These capabilities include: › Preliminary Design Survey › Construction Staking › Subsurface Utility Engineering › Laser Scanning › Unmanned Aerial Systems › Building Information Modeling › Hydrographic Surveying › Route Location Surveys

PRELIMINARY DESIGN SURVEY SERVICES Preliminary surveying services include: › Boundary Surveys › American Land Title Association / National Society of Professional Surveyors Land Title Surveys › Topographic Surveys › North Carolina Department of Transportation Route Surveys › Tree Surveys › Global Positioning Systems Control Surveys › Federal Emergency Management Agency Elevation Certificates › Floodplain Surveys › Wetland Surveys › Stream Buffer Surveys › Electrical Plan + Profile Corridor Surveys › Power Substation Surveys › Subdivision Mapping › Exhibits for Easement Preparation

SUE SERVICES Our Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) team locates and identifies visible and underground utilities early in a project’s design process to avoid costly conflicts and dangerous safety hazards. By obtaining accurate and reliable information about where utilities lie beneath the surface, we are able to mitigate various safety hazards that could cause damage to or delay a project. McAdams is an industry leader in the field of SUE and will apply our expertise to your projects. Our SUE capabilities include: › Designating: Horizontal Location of Underground Utilities › Locating: Vertical Location of Underground Utilities › Ground Penetrating Radar › Electronic Locating Markers › Quality Levels A, B, C + D – Level A: Provides the highest level of accuracy presently available by “locating” the use of non-destructive digging equipment to expose buried utilities at critical points. – Level B: “Designating” the professional selection, application and interpretation of surface geophysical techniques to identify virtually all utilities within the project limits. – Level C: Surveying visible aboveground utility facilities, such as manholes, valve boxes and posts and correlating this information with existing utility records. – Level D: Utilities record research and is the most basic level of information coming solely from existing utility records.

LASER SCANNING SERVICES Laser scanning, sometimes referred to as high-definition surveying or three-dimensional laser scanning, is a tool that our Geomatics team utilizes on a wide variety of projects. In general, a laser scanner is used in place of more commonly used surveying equipment to capture project data. Traditional methods of surveying can be unsafe, time consuming and inefficient causing risk to employees and the need for repeat trips. Scanning allows our teams to capture everything visible from the scanner’s location in a matter of seconds producing a point cloud almost identical to a photograph. These capabilities include: › Forensic Surveys › Deformation Studies › Americans with Disabilities Act Certifications › Floor Flatness Certifications › Existing Conditions Surveys › Open Pit Mine Surveys › Stockpile Surveys

UAS SERVICES Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Photogrammetry: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) licensed remote pilots utilize photo-sensors designed for aerial photogrammetry to capture imagery within the project limits. The collected imagery is processed by a professional land surveyor adhering to standards established by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and any local / state regulations governing surveying and photogrammetry. An orthometric image and point cloud is generated during the process. The imagery and point cloud allows our Geomatics team to develop planimetric and topographic survey maps that our clients utilize in the development of their project. UAS LIDAR: FAA licensed remote pilots utilize Riegl miniVUX LiDAR sensor to scan the flight area, capturing point data for the project. The collected point data is processed by a professional land surveyor adhering to standards established by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and any local / state regulations governing Surveying and LiDAR. Point cloud is generated during the process, which allows our Geomatics team to develop topographic survey maps that our clients utilize in the development of their project.

BIM SERVICES For Building Information Systems (BIM), our Geomatics team takes point clouds and extracts columns, girders, beams, pipes, duct work, walls, windows and doors. The extracted items are modeled in various point cloud software, which are then exported into a REVIT specific format. The importing process generates the necessary families, so that REVIT recognizes the model structures for what they represent. The result is a model that can be tailored to varying levels of detail to fit the client’s project needs.

HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEYING SERVICES Hydrographic surveying is the process of capturing elevation data for a portion of the earth’s surface concealed by water. Normally, surveyors can capture the data by physically locating breaks in the terrain. However, on hydrographic surveys, water conceals the locations of these breaks. Our Geomatics crews utilize an unmanned watercraft along with dual frequency SONAR technology to accurately and efficiently capture the surface bottom of most water features. This equipment provides the elevation of the water surface and two depths: one depth representing a the top of silt layer and another representing the top of the hard bottom. This is very helpful with estimating approximate sediment volume that has built up in the water feature overtime. It allows contractors to determine better estimates for removal costs. Our crews operate the system remotely from the shore, navigating the craft and traversing the entire water feature to ensure that coverage is achieved. Traditional surveying methods generate hundreds of points but by using the unmanned system, we can generate thousands of points in roughly an hour, providing a better depiction of the surface bottom.
