BLAIR
MCC AT DO SPACE
The Blair Public Library and Technology Center combines modern technology, expanded collection and staff areas, and multi-use meeting spaces. The 27,000 square-foot facility provides 4,500 square feet of public gathering and meeting spaces, including a technology-rich conference room, a warming kitchen, public restrooms and 1,800 square feet of sub-dividable meeting space. All can be accessed separately from the library for after-hours use. Unique library spaces include a 1,000 square-foot art exhibit space, and a 500 square-foot Makerspace with digital media, recording, 3-D printing and scanning and a variety of other creative opportunities.
Together with our partners at the nonprofit Community Information Trust, Metropolitan Community College houses a modern training center that brings the best of today’s technology to central Omaha, utilizing the second floor of Do Space. Flexible, active learning opportunities are offered for all types of learners, including older adults, job seekers, incumbent workers, emerging entrepreneurs, parents with young children, teens and college-bound students.

Located in a former junior high school building, the fast-growing Fremont Area Center now boasts three times the space of its prior location in Eastville Plaza. ESL: MCC Adult Education provides noncredit ESL classes for literacy level, non-English speaking students. The classes focus on basic English and survival English skills. Students who can already communicate in English should consider continuing to improve their English speaking and writing skills in credit classes. We have six different ESL levels. Once a student has completed level six, a variety of options will be available depending upon each unique situation.

There are specific times and days offered to students and community members. An instructor leads the sessions. Accelerated learning opportunities-GAP: An accelerated learning option for those who are focused and highly motivated. Assistance in completing your GED in English: Once a student completes the noncredit ESL program, they will be transitioned into the GED program. The student will then take the Test of Adult Basic Education and their scores will determine the class enrollment. ANIMALS Basic Dog Obedience
Basic Dog Obedience with Kristin’s Big Moose Dog Training is designed for dogs more than 16 weeks of age. Your dog will be practicing recalls, leash manners as well as learning “sit” and “down” on command and staying in a sit and down position with controlled distractions. All dogs under one year of age are automatically eligible for the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Certification, regardless if they are purebred or mixed breed. At the first class, your dog must be wearing a buckle collar. Your dog will also need a 4-6 ft. leather or nylon leash flexi-leads, chain leashes and harnesses are not permitted). Prerequisite: Basic Dog Obedience Become a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, a program that recognizes and rewards responsible dog owners as well as foster and rescue groups that incorporate training programs and finding dogs a forever home. Dairy Goats 101
Explore the differences between conventional, organic and sustainable methods of raising goats and managing a dairy, whether for home or commercial use. Discover how to plan and manage the dairy, as well as natural methods of raising goats. Learn to integrate current research on goat health issues with management practices. Breeding and birthing issues will be discussed in detail, as well as raising kids. Basics of cheese and soap making will be included, as well as composting waste and using milk or whey as fertilizer; or to raise other meat animals, such as poultry, pigs and calves. The Horse Course 102

In this field class, you will be exposed to and handle live bees. Get hands-on practice using hive tools, lighting a smoker and wearing beekeeping protective gear. *Sandhill Crane Migration Tour
Requirement: moderate to extensive walking Witness the world’s largest concentration of Sandhill Cranes from the banks of the Platte River in south central Nebraska. Every year during March and early April, more than 500,000 Sandhill Cranes along with hundreds of thousands of ducks and geese converge on the Platte River Valley. You’ll meet experienced staff guides of the Crane Trust Nature Center and Fort Kearny Historical State Park during this tour. Each of these sites are located right in the heart of this magnificent sandhill crane staging area where the birds can be viewed in the fields and in gatherings on their roosts along the Platte River. Your first stop is the Crane Trust Nature Center in Wood River, Nebraska, which provides a place where you can connect to nature along the Platte River. For lunch, enjoy a buffet at the Alley Rose with an entrée, several side dishes, salad bar and dessert. In the afternoon, visit the Museum of Nebraska Arts, home to the state’s only collection of art created solely by Nebraskans. Federal Aviation Administration released new regulations requiring anyone flying or operating a small unmanned aircraft system (drone) under 55 pounds for commercial purposes is required to be FAA Certified Remote Pilot. Refunds An automatic refund is made if MCC cancels a class. To withdraw your registration before a class starts, please call 531-MCC-5231. Refunds will be issued to students who drop a class at least one business day (seven days for tours) prior to the class start date. No refunds will be issued for classes dropped on or after the class start date. MCC assumes no liability for accidents that occur while participating in Continuing Education classes and provides no funds to cover medical costs. Participants are reminded that participation is entirely voluntary and are strongly urged to have their own health insurance. It is understood that participation is voluntary and MCC is not responsible for injuries or accidents and all liability against them is waived.
