@ RYAN DEEGAN This place is incredible. The chef makes exquisite dishes that give any high end Asheville restaurant a run for the money. The golf is even better as the course is always in excellent condition. Awesome course for long hitters. Walk the front and ride the back if you want some light exercise. The gym is clean and all the machines are updated models. I'm happy as can be with every piece of this operation.

TEE IT UP

By now, I hope everyone is ready for spring time. We have had a few cold stretches here and there but overall, it has been a mild wet winter. Hopefully by the time this article has hit the press and is in your hands, we are past the cold temperatures and working our way into the warmer weather of spring! With that being said, please take a moment to visit the club’s website and view the golf calendar for 2020. There you will find all of our events as well as where you will go to register for each event you wish to participate in this year. Most all of our events have online registration and that typically begins 30 days from the tournament date. Also, we are currently working to get our Spring Fitting Days with all of our club companies that we carry in the Golf Shop. Be on the lookout for those days and times in the near future! Many of you have enjoyed using our SkyTrak once again this winter and we hope you feel it has been a good addition to the club. I can tell you that the positive response we have gotten here at CCA has the company’s attention and they are looking at adding SkyTrak to some of our other facilities. Keep in mind that when bad weather is in the forecast, the hour time blocks for SkyTrak fill up fast! As we get closer to warmer weather and the 2020 Golf Season, it is important to keep in mind some of the rules and regulations of the club and McConnell Golf. A few of note to keep in mind are: • • • • • •

• •

General Rule #7: all food & beverages consumes on club grounds must be furnished by the club unless otherwise permitted Attire: Shirts are to be tucked in at all times, hats are to be worn in a forward facing position when on the golf course and/or practice facility, and changing shoes in the parking lot is prohibited. Hats should not be worn in the club dining room areas during regular business hours General Golf Rules #16: No personal coolers are permitted on club grounds Registration: All members & guests are required to check in with the Golf Shop prior to their round (this is very important in regards to the accuracy of your monthly bill) General Golf Cart/Pull Cart Rule #6: Only 2 golf carts per group unless otherwise approved by the Head Golf Professional. If you are a twosome, only 1 cart is permitted in the group. General Golf Cart/Pull Cart Rule #10: When carts are under the 90* Rule, carts should enter the fairway where the fairway begins and exit the fairway on the cart path side no closer than 30 yards from the green. General Golf Cart/Pull Cart Rule #12: Golf Carts & Pull Carts should be parked between the green being played and the tee of the next hole to promote faster play. Pull Carts are not allowed on tee boxes or fringe/collars of the putting green. Handicaps #7: For all major club tournaments, the primary member and/or spouse are eligible to participate. Dependents under the age of 25 are not eligible to participate in club events or MCG events.

If you have any questions or need further explanation of any of these, please don’t hesitate to ask us! Fairways & Greens Everyone, Matt Stewart, PGA Head Golf Professional

TURF TALK Greetings, from the maintenance department! The months of January and February have been difficult to perform many repairs to the golf course with all the rain. Hopefully, Mother Nature will cooperate and provide us with more favorable weather so we can accomplish the goals we have set for the start of the year. Although we have been limited to what we can do on the course, we have been persistent with clearing wood lines around the property. Also, the staff has been preparing for the upcoming season by painting new hazard stakes, refurbishing course accessories, grinding reels, power washing and servicing equipment. The months of March and April are transitional months. As the grass begins to actively grow we must perform our cultural practices that will allow for the course to be its best during periods of stress. We plan on fertilizing and aerating the course the second week of April, which should provide better weather for allowing the course to recover in a timely manner. Additionally, we are looking into increasing drainage to several areas around the course. I look forward to warmer weather and more golf being played. Thank you to all that have taken time to speak with me while on the course. Once again, it is a pleasure serving as your golf course superintendent. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Warmest regards, Brandon Ingle, GCS

But if you have not been active this Winter, please use caution when jumping back into the game. Studies reveal that the risk of injury among amateur golfers has an incidence between 15.8% to 40.9% on an annual basis! Golf injuries are typically the result of repetitive stresses on joints that have an imbalance in strength, mobility and/or flexibility. As your club Physical Therapist, I highly recommend doing a pre-season screening with me to identify areas that need extra attention. Together, we will create an exercise program specific to your needs that you can perform independently or under my watchful eye, that will make you feel better AND improve your game! Please reach out to me via email or phone at the contact information below to discuss your needs further. I will be treating patients on site Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment.
