FROM THE CLUB FROM DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Dear Members, I hope that each of you has had a great spring thus far and are ready for an exciting summer season at Grande Dunes. As you will see in the following pages, Grande Dunes is excited to provide a number of diverse events in the upcoming summer months. We are excited to be moving away from the many protocols and restrictions caused by COVID pandemic. We have reinstituted many of the services members are accustomed to enjoying including towel services in the carts, drink stations on the course, locker room showers, just to name a few. We are getting closer and closer to normalcy each day as most of our membership is now fully vaccinated. As conditions warrant, more adjustments to our protocols will be initiated. We will continue to examine our current schedule of activities and potentially add some events as we get further away from the pandemic. Our goal is to host activities and events to appeal to every member and their families. Please take time to go through the following pages and set your calendars for an amazing summer. Over the past six months our membership has increased by far more than we would have ever anticipated. Since the beginning of November, Grande Dunes has seen a net gain of 125 new members. Golf play is at record numbers and dining and social events are routinely selling out.I cannot thank our staff, in all departments, for their hard work and commitment over the past six months. Our staff has stood tall to the challenges of an ever increasing membership and the growth of our dining and social events. In July, please note that the golf course be closed July 5th – July 9th for aeration. This aeration will include all short cut areas; tees, fairways, and greens. During this time the Members Club Clubhouse will close for some needed maintenance items. The clubhouse will be closed Monday, July 5th – Wednesday, July 7th and will re-open for dinner service on Thursday, July 8th with Pastabilities. On behalf of the entire staff, I wish you and your families continued good health and we look forward to seeing you at the Club very soon. Sincerely, Brian Vest, Director of Operations I Brian.Vest@GrandeDunes.com
A NOTE FROM YOUR MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR It’s good to see summer just around the corner. This summer will be like no other at the Members Club. Lots of golfing and activities are in store for everyone which equals to lots of fun in the sun. The old saying is true; if you can laugh at it, you can live with it. Life is to be enjoyed, not endured. The truth is, "People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing" -Dale Carnegie. When you're having fun, you're making memories. Life only comes around once. So why not do what makes you happy and be around people who make you smile? We have definitely are having fun at the club. I sincerely thank all of you for the great support you have for your club. Because of you, the club is fun, versatile and thriving. Please continue to send your friends and family to see me in the membership office. I am sure that we have a membership available to fit their lifestyle. Pam Evans, Membership Director I Pam.Evans@GrandeDunes.com

TEE IT UP
GOLF NEWS A NOTE FROM YOUR HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL March and April have been record months for us at the club. We are putting out more play than ever before, and that is mostly due to our increased membership. With that, our tee time inventory is less and less. We are doing everything possible to help accommodate all of our members. In order to do so, we need your help. If you are a single golf or a twosome, the golf staff will be pair up with additional golfers in order to fill your tee time. This will help make your round more enjoyable. Less time waiting and more time playing. We would like to give a special shoutout to one of our golf members, Johnson Holliday, who recently qualified to play on the Forme Tour (PGA Tour Canada, formally the Mackenzie Tour). He finished T17 at the first qualifying site on the East Coast. Congratulations and good luck from the Grande Dunes Family! Additionally, we would like to spotlight some other members on their tournament results. In March, the team of David & Brady Barr won the Season Opening 2-Person Scramble and Eileen Johnson & Deb Shealy won the Spring One Day Member/Member. Val VanDeventer was the Gross Champion of the GDMC Masters Par 3 Tournament and David Murphy was the winner in the Net Division. That weekend, Juliet Larson claimed the title of 2021 GDMC Masters Championship. April 23rd & 24th was our annual Men’s Spring Invitational. The five flight winners were: David Barr & Chad Webb, Mike Beard & Brian Banasiewicz, Steve Plante & Joe Swick, Mike Bickel & Steve Delp, and Chad Smith & Rob Robinson. Congrats to all of our members on their tournament play and thank you all for your increased participation. We are excited to have full field events for the vast majority of our tournaments. We have a busy tournament season ahead of us, with the Ladies Spring Invitational (May 14) and Match Play Championship coming up (May 22 & 23). A list of all of our upcoming events and winners of your prior events can be found on the Members Club Event Calendar and Website. Our annual Member/Member Golf Tournament highlights June’s tournament schedule. This event will take place from June 11th to the 13th. Upcoming Events: May: 13th – Thursday Night Shootout #3 14th – Ladies Spring Invitational (MAJOR) 22nd & 23rd – Match Play Championship 27th – Thursday Night Shootout #4 30th – Couple’s Golf Event #3 31st – Memorial Day Golf Event June: 10th – Thursday Night Shootout #5 11th-13th – Member/Member Golf Tournament 24th – Thursday Night Shootout #6 27th – Couple’s Golf Event #4

FROM THE GREEN Ground Hogs Day. That’s how it feels. Every morning begins at 6:30 am sharp with a staff meeting. This is the first and most important step towards creating better conditions. My personal goal and that of our department is better conditions today than we had yesterday. In these meetings we touch on daily, weekly and monthly goals. We discuss both the positives and the negatives of the course and our staff. This meeting is never completed without asking the staff if they have any questions, problems or concerns about their assignment or any other topic. These meetings help get us on the same page as a department and help us work towards the same goals on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Even though we start each day in the same manner, they are all different. Some days go just as planned and some don’t. Too many variables to count. Even though we leave the shop with the same goal we often need to remind our guys to complete the simplest tasks, such as fixing ball marks before mowing, removing the flag before mowing – not during, blowing not only around the green but also the green itself, moving tees while setting up the course, fixing traffic control stakes, straightening hazard stakes, making sure the bunker rakes are in the right areas, not to drive carts or other equipment between greens and greenside bunkers and to pick up trash. Fortunately we have a great staff and these reminders are becoming less and less necessary, but they still happen from time to time. These meetings and subsequent reminders help us work toward our ultimate goal of better and better conditions. It is important that my staff realize that the next eyes that see the course may be that of a member, potential member and or the guest of a member…. not necessarily another staff member to clean or fix a mess. We do all of this with the hopes and intent that the course will be as good as it can possibly be when it’s played. Realizing that some days are better than others, but it is important to me that our effort remains consistent. Having said all of that we could certainly use your help. I would like to ask all of our members and their guests to consider those that are playing behind them. The next group doesn’t want to play out of footprints in the bunkers or putt across a ball mark on the green. The next group does not want to see carts parked in the approaches or up near the tees. Each group wants the same conditions and experience. All that we are asking is for you to consider those that will be playing behind you. Sometimes all it takes is a simple reminder to those playing with you, don’t forget to rake out your foot prints, don’t forget to fix your ball mark, I’m pretty sure we’re not supposed to drive on par 3’s or this close to the green. These types of reminders will help us continue to achieve our ultimate goal of better course conditions for you and those playing behind you. I promise that our focus will remain the same and consistent. As always I appreciate your help and concern and please do not hesitate to contact me for any reason. Sincerely, Ryan Gamble Golf Course Superintendent, Grande Dunes Members Club ryan.gamble@grandedunes.com 843-903-3484
