WELCOME NEW MEMBERS
Hello Old North State,
David & Jamie Hancock; daughter Maggie (6) Please join us in welcoming the Hancock family to the Old North State Club! Residing in Charlotte, the Hancocks enjoy visiting the area and their Badin Lake home often and utilizing the amenities of the club. David is in real estate while Jamie is in investment banking. While they met one another in college at Wake Forest University, they are both from eastern NC. The Hancocks enjoy spending time on the lake with family and friends, and are looking forward to meeting many locals and enjoying new food & wine experiences at the club!
Summer is finally here and so is the heat! We look forward to having a fairly “normal” summer after the craziness that was 2020. We are excited for a full return of our 4th of July celebration, both the Jr. Golf camp and kids activities camp will be in full swing in a few weeks, and a regular pool season with no reservations! Things are looking good at the lake. I would like to thank all the staff here at Old North State for their hard work and their dedication to going above and beyond during these trying times. While things have begun to improve, we now face new challenges and obstacles brought on by the events of the past year. I am confident we will be able to continue to meet these new challenges with creativity and be able to provide you with a great experience each time you visit the club. We hope you all have a fun and safe summer here at the club or wherever this summer takes you. All the best, Brian Pabst Club Manager

9 FRIDAY
Fireworks, barbeques, and buffets! Summertime is revving up, and as the pandemic numbers continue to slow, I’m looking forward to seeing more of our membership in the clubhouse. With that in mind, I ask for ongoing patience and understanding among our membership over these next summer months. MCCONNELL GOLF NEWS
JULY: THE ULTIMATE COOKIE By Chef Ron Gordils - Old North State Club
- THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS Founded in 2007, Folds of Honor's mission is to provide educational scholarships to the spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members. Their motto says it best: Honor their Sacrifice. Educate their Legacy. To display McConnell Golf’s commitment to these families who have sacrificed so much for our freedoms, members of the golf professional staff at each of our properties played a golf marathon from sun-up until sun-down beginning on Tuesday, June 1, and on select dates in June and July. Each golf professional committed to playing at least 100 holes! To date, McConnell Golf has raised over $278,000! Thank you!
This past summer while my wife was pregnant she had an occasional sweet tooth. I came across this fun and playful recipe to help fulfill the craving. From the crunch of the cornflake to the great balance of flavor, I think it’s a great year-round cookie! I hope you all enjoy it! Cheers from my family to yours! Yield: Approximately 4 Dozen Cookies Ingredients: 1 Cup Unsalted Butter, softened 1 Cup Granulated Sugar 1 Cup Brown Sugar, packed
1 Cup Vegetable Oil 1 Large Egg 1 TSP Baking Soda 1 TSP Salt

When the Dog Days of summer are almost over, one thing is prevalent in the Carolinas as we near the return of school and football season. Peaches, peaches, and more peaches! One of the classic dishes utilizing peaches around the house is peach cobbler. This cookie pays tribute to this locally sourced and delicious stone fruit. Stop by a local produce stand, farmers market, or co-op to purchase some. We feel they are best served warm out of the oven. With a glass of milk or scoop of vanilla ice cream, you can’t go wrong! We hope you enjoy these sweet flavor-packed favorites. Ingredients: 1 Cup Unsalted Butter, softened 1 Cup Sugar 1/3 Cup Packed Brown Sugar
1 Large Egg, room temperature 1 TSP Vanilla Extract 1/4 TSP Almond Extract 3 Cups All-Purpose Flour

KNOLLWOOD VINEYARD RIGHT BANK RED BLEND I NAPA VALLEY
Thank You for Your Contributions!
Masterfully crafted by renowned winemaker Chris Corley, the 2018 blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon was exclusively bottled for McConnell Golf. The grape varietals were hand-picked, then destemmed and berry-sorted on the crush pad. The wine was aged in New 1/3 French oak barrels for 26 months. The primary blend was assembled at 12 months, with secondary blending at 18 months, and final blend-strokes being done at 26 months. This blend has dark, luscious aromas and flavors of blackberry, anise with undercurrents of lightly toasted oak and hints of vanilla. There is a hint of pepper, and nice waves of ripe dark berry fruit on the palate. 58% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon

TEE IT UP A NOTE FROM YOUR DIRECTOR OF GOLF
A NOTE FROM YOUR COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
Members,
The summer heat is here so we have installed greens fans on most of our creeping bentgrass greens. The consistent air flow fans provide help to cool the canopy and minimize disease pressure by reducing prolonged leaf wetness after those steamy afternoon summer storms.
I hope this email finds you all doing well. It was a whirlwind of events over the last 2 months including but not limited to Ladies MemberMember, Men’s Senior Interclub Matches, Couples Sundowner’s Events, Folds of Honor 108 Hole Marathon, Spring Team Match Play Championship, Multiple Holes-In-One, and of course the 2021 Men’s Member-Guest. Thank you to everyone who participated in these events and congratulations to the winners! I also want to thank all departments for their hard work ensuring all of the above-listed tournaments went well.
They do a pretty good job of cooling golfers as well! See you on the course! Chris Chapman
Although the running and hosting of golf events slows down a little during July and August, I feel the course will stay busy with members and their guests. With the addition of fans to a majority of the greens, we have been able to see a surprising rebound to the playability of our putting surfaces. We are hopeful this continues and we are able to escape the summer heat without having to limit play. Please remember to remind your guests of our dress code policies. Men need to keep their shirts tucked in throughout the entire round and on the range. Women can be untucked but need to have a collar if the shirt is sleeveless. Thank you all for your cooperation and understanding. Have a great rest of your summer and make sure to stop by and say hello to the Golf Staff! Justin Mathers, PGA

MARINA & NEWS FROM THE NET A NOTE FROM YOUR DOCKMASTER Well, the summer is definitely here, with that comes all the joys and of course headaches of boat ownership. The best way I can think of to ensure more boating bliss and fewer nautical nightmares is to maintain your vessel. This should include the hull, motor, and all associated equipment. Having your engine serviced regularly will help with mechanical problems while out on the water. “Proper preparation prevents poor performance”. If there is any question as to the condition of your boat or its associated equipment, please give me a call at the marina, I would much rather get a call to check out your boat than a call to tow your boat back in. Please keep in mind to always double-check your lines when docking at our piers. If you go back and double-check them this prevents two major issues. The first is that your vessel doesn’t become loose and drift away. The second is, if the lines are left too lose the waves and wind will force your boat into the docks causing not only damage to your vessel but to our docks as well. Just checking your lines twice can save you (and us) a lot of money and keep your investment looking great! “Have a swell day!” Dockmaster Dustin Hinson
