A MESSAGE FROM YOUR GENERAL MANAGER
Happy start of summer 2024!
As I write this, we are just finishing up the 2024 Spring Member-Guest Tournament I hope everyone who participated had a great time and congratulations to Mr. Wes Sugg & Mr. Peter Baldauf and their guests for a great win. A big thanks to Justin Mathers and the golf team for running a fantastic tournament, Chris Chapman and his team for having the golf course in perfect shape and Chef & William Davis for the great meals and service from the F&B Team
As I discussed in the last newsletter, we have been completing some projects around the property and will continue to make some improvements over the course of the year We have completed the refurbishment of the fuel dock at the Marina, made some improvements in the lodge and in the clubhouse, and Chef Issac has rolled out a new menu The adult pool resurfacing will begin soon, along with new pool furniture for the adult pool prior to the start of the opening on Memorial Day Weekend. Speaking of the pools; I regret to inform you that we will not have lifeguards this summer Both pools will be swim at your own risk We will have an attendant at the pool to ensure liability waivers are completed and only members are utilizing the pools.
Thank you for your continued support of Old North State Club, the year has been busy already and the team looks forward to an even busier summer. Please join me in thanking all of our department heads and employees who are excited to continue to serve all of our members
I look forward to seeing everyone at the Club.

A NOTE FROM YOUR EXECUTIVE CHEF
Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone has had a chance to come and dine at the lake I hope everyone is enjoying our spring selections we have to offer. We are looking into receiving some local NC Seafood from Southern Breeze Seafood out of Jacksonville, NC this spring and summer I hope we can make this happen for the membership here at Old North State Club I love offering local NC goods to our members and this would be a great addition for fish, shrimp, and other shellfish the NC coast has to offer.
We appreciate every member and guest that takes time to grab a bite to eat by the lake We are trying are best to grow as chefs and I hope it shows.
See you at a table by the lake,
Isaac J Spencer Executive ChefTidewater Grain Company Cheesy Rice Grits
Ingredients
3 cups water
· 1 cup Tidewater Grain Company Carolina Gold Rice Middlins
· 3/4 to 1 cup whole milk
1 round Chapel Hill Creamery Carolina Moon soft rind Brie-style cheese
· Salt and butter to taste
Instructions
1. In a large sauce pan, bring the water to a boil; and season with a teaspoon or so of salt
2 Add the middlins to the salted water Stir and reduce heat to a simmer.
3. Allow to simmer uncovered for 12-15 mins. At which time most but probably not all of the water will be absorbedinto the rice grits
4 Add the milk to the pan of middlins and stir to blend; bring the pan back to a medium heat.
5 Slowly add the cheese It’s easiest to cut the round into small squares and add them to the rice grits about a quarter of the round at a time. Stir well with each addition to allow the cheese to melt into the creamy mix
6 Keep stirring until the cheesy middlins mix begins to get thick Season to taste with salt and pepper. Add more butter if you would like an even creamier texture.

Thank you again for your continued support of ONSC Golf!
Justin Mathers, PGA Director of GolfA NOTE FROM YOUR COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
We have successfully navigated our first winter with the tifEagle greens. Here in central NC the winter temperatures can easily hit single digits in the winter, fortunately we only did that once (January 21st, 9.5 degrees) this winter Most of you are aware that we cover the greens during extended periods of very cold weather, but we also employ other practices The main agronomic practice is to raise the greens height in the fall This allows the plant to store more carbohydrates and also provides additional thermal protection for the plant. Once the greens break dormancy (late March, early April) we begin the process of lowering the height. Then once the low temperatures consistently moderate (mid April) we begin vertical mowing to remove the lateral leaf blades and top dressing to smooth/firm the putting surface It takes several weeks to thin the lateral growth out and reach high green speeds(11+ on the stimp meter) As things stand now(April 24) I’d say the greens will be stimping 11+ in mid May Be careful what you wish for, lol
Best Regards,
Chris Chapman Golf Course SuperintendentRECREATIONAL NEWS

A NOTE FROM YOUR DOCKMASTER
Happy Spring from ONSM with the summer right around the corner and the weather and water turning warm and the pollen finally leaving, it’s going to a great time to be on the water of Badin Lake. I’m sure most of you are aware now is the time where being on the lake can really make life good! With that being said now is the time if you haven’t already, to have the marina service and clean your boat for the season. Also it is a great time to take advantage of having any trailer repairs done while the boat is in the water or at your house Bunks rot, carpet comes off, and winch straps rot or break We can take care of all of that during this time
Our hours of operation will expand as we get to Memorial Day to Tuesday to Sunday 9-5 If you have any questions or need to schedule service or cleaning please call the marina at 336-461-4456. The rental boats will be back in the water by the first of May so if you don’t have a boat and would like to get out on the water and enjoy the day with family or friends give us a call to schedule a rental. The prices for the year are $250 for 4hrs $350 for 8hrs, and $450 for 24hrs plus the fuel you use Thanks and have a wonderful spring/summer!
As always, if you have any questions please feel free to call the marina at 336-461-4456
Thanks and have a blessed day
