Greg worked for several years in restaurants in downtown Raleigh and did an externship at Wakefield Plantation before being brought on as sous chef at Wakefield Plantation in 2009. Greg is dedicated to his craft, continues to seek out new innovations and culinary trends and loves the camaraderie formed in the kitchen. Greg and his wife, Tiffany, have three kids Jackson, Fiona, and Adelyn. We want to wish Dennis Freeland the very best as he transitions to Wilmington to assume the Executive Chef role at our managed property, Porters Neck CC. Dennis will be joined by Nick Chavez from Sedgefield Country Club as the new Chef de Cuisine/Sous Chef for the club. TEE IT UP Hopefully by the time you are reading this, our world has semi-returned to normalcy. Your Golf Professional Staff certainly appreciates all that our Members have done in response to minimizing the effects of COVID-19 at our sister properties, as well as here at Raleigh Country Club, during the last few months. Every facet of our golf operations at Raleigh Country Club has been impacted during this time. From new range and practice facility protocols being implemented to junior and ladies clinics, fitting days, scheduled course tours, and Rules of Golf seminars being postponed or cancelled. We thank all of our Members for being patient with us, and we hope to have new dates established for all of our golf programs and events at the Club in the future. Please keep an eye out for member communications regarding these new dates.

HOLE IN ONE Congratulations to Mr. Jack Blankenhorn, Ms. Becca McKinney, Mr. Ted Broering, Mr. Callum Chadwick, and Mr. Paul Urben for their recent perfection on the golf course! On March 4, Jack Blankenhorn led off our RCC Hole-InOne barrage by holing a 9-iron from 115 yards on the 11th Hole at Bentwinds Country Club. His ace helped him to a solid 3rd place finish in the Triangle Senior Golf Tour event. On March 21, Becca McKinney pured an 8-iron from 100 yards on the 14th hole at Wakefield Plantation and carded a “1”. Witnessing (and definitely celebrating afterwards) this shot were playing partners Elly Matteis, Terry Gross, and Ann Sisk. On March 28, Ted Broering became the 2nd RCC member in a week to ace the 14th hole at Wakefield Plantation by dunking a pitching wedge from 120 yards! On April 11, RCC junior golfer Callum Chadwick made his first ever Hole-In-One on the 5th hole at the Plantation 9 at Wakefield, using a pitching wedge from 90 yards. Callum’s feat was witnessed by his proud father Andrew Chadwick, Dr. William Hage and his son Preston.

FITTING DAYS We are looking forward to hosting several fitting days in May: May 15: PXG May 22: Cleveland Golf May 29: Taylor Made

THE LINK

On April 12, Paul Urben aced the 2nd hole at Treyburn Country Club using a stinger 5-wood from 103 yards that found the bottom of the cup for his third career Hole-InOne! Ironically back on June 15th of last year when he aced the 6th hole at RCC, this Easter gift was also witnessed by the same playing partners: Jerry Oliver, Kent McLamb, and Rob Bergdolt. Word around RCC is Mr. Urben will be offering a “How to Hole Out Using Your Woods” clinic later this summer.

Fitness instructors from across the sister properties share workouts for all fitness levels including circuit and strength training, yoga, and even tips to get the most from a walk outside.

So many McConnell Golf members are enjoying the convenience of our mobile app to book tee times, courts and pay their bill! It is easy to navigate, available for both Apple and Android, and keeps you logged in so there’s no need to reenter your password.

To participate, simply visit Facebook.com/groups/MCGFit and look for the “Join” button below the photo. Provide your alphanumeric membership number and you’ll be added to the group. We hope members can return to their fitness centers soon but until then - stay in touch online, stay fit and stay healthy!

If you haven’t yet, get yourself ready for summer and download the app from Google Play or the Apple App Store - right now! (Search “McConnell Golf”) Then, log in with your same credentials as the private website and stay in-the-know with club news as summer fills up our schedules.

In addition to the PGA TOUR’s schedule modifications, the Korn Ferry Tour recently announced the cancellation of the REX Hospital Open which was originally scheduled for May 25-31. The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation looks forward to hosting the event again in May 2021! The Visit Knoxville Open, hosted by Holston Hills Country Club, is postponed with a date yet to be determined.

STRONGER TOGETHER

SAVE THE DATE! The Wyndham Championship, held at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, NC, is postponed to August 10-16, 2020.

Working in hospitality means our employees love to serve and connect with people. In these times, our staff misses these interactions dearly. The support we've received from the membership however, has been overwhelming. We just wanted to say, "Thank you." Thank you for every round of golf. Every to-go order. Every email, comment, like and share. We could not do what we love to do without you, and if anything, these trying times underscore the value of community. We are so very proud to serve you, and to have built a network of clubs with your support that sustains us all in good times and bad.
