As summer draws to a close, many of us are eagerly anticipating the crisp air and vibrant colors of autumn Though we’ll miss the long, sunny days of summer, we were able to extend the pool hours for an additional week past Labor Day. Make the most of this extra time and join us for one last summer celebration at our Labor Day cookout and pool party.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the warm welcome you have given Jake McCartney, our new Director of Tennis who joined us mid-August We’re thrilled to see him develop and expand our tennis
and pickleball programs If you haven’t had the chance to meet Jake yet, please feel free to visit the tennis shop or drop Jake a quick email
As we welcome Jake, our new Director of Tennis, we’re also preparing for a significant change with Reid Hill, our Head Golf Pro, set to retire this October While we’re excited for Reid and the new adventures that lie ahead, we will certainly miss his presence His remarkable contributions and the positive impact he’s had on our club, our members, and our team are truly appreciated.
A special note of appreciation is due to Reid, who has dedicated the past 26 years to our club. Thank you, Reid, for your unwavering dedication and love for the club. We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have you as a part of our family, and we’re grateful for everything you’ve done over the years.
As we navigate these transitions, we want to thank you all for your warm welcome to our new team members and for your continued support
See you around the clubhouse, Maya Panayotova General Manager

Dear Members,
I have made the decision to retire from Wilson Country Club. I will continue in my current role as Head Golf Professional through this fall’s Member-Guest, with my official last day being Sunday, October 20
There aren’t enough words to properly express my gratitude to all of you for allowing me to be your golf professional for the last 26 years. I am so fortunate to be able to call so many of you friends You welcomed
me with open arms when I started back in 1998, and you have supported me ever since
My sincere thanks to McConnell Golf for allowing me the opportunity to be part of the transition after the sale of the club last June. It’s great to see the positive direction Wilson Country Club is taking, and I am proud to play a small role in this success I will not be a stranger, as I will continue to live in Wilson, which I call home, and you will most likely see me at the club on occasion You have an amazing team running the club, and it will continue to improve in the years to come.
I certainly can’t thank each of you individually with this letter, but I hope to be able to express my thanks to each and every one of you in person

2024 WILSON CUP RECAP
Over the weekend, 38 of Wilson’s best golfers met for two days for the 31st annual Wilson Cup Wilson Country Club hosted the event on Saturday, and Wedgewood Golf Course was the Sunday host. 36 holes of 2-man match play on Saturday produced the 2 clubs with the highest point totals... WCC and Willow Springs Country Club earned the right to compete on Sunday for the elusive Wilson Cup. Although the competition was spirited, the competitors maintained a high level of decorum and sportsmanship. WCC proved to be the better team and won the Cup in convincing fashion 16 1/2 pts to 8 pts Congrats to all of our team that played extremely well!! As this was my last Wilson Cup as the WCC head professional, I would like to thank all of the players that competed!!! You made your captain very proud!! - Reid
Dr. Bill Boles, M.A. Tyson, Hearn Walston, Stan Corbett, Hewitt Poland, Clint O’Hara, Scott Dekeyzer, Dwayne Baker, David Hesmer, Kyle Norville, Seth Pattan, Matt Ellis & Coalter Paxton, IV comprised our championship winning team.
The tail end of July and the first half of August shaped up to be extremely wet, with us receiving right at 12 inches of rain The first bout of it was when we were trying to aerify the fairways We struggled through the fairways on the front but got them done That same week, we were able to get the collars and approaches completed on all 18 as well as some other smaller areas that could easily be cleaned up right behind the aerifier Being that we completed all the tees and the par 3 approaches the week before, it put us in a pretty good position, although we had to fight to get the front side fairways cleaned up I had elected to delay the fairways on the back side until the following week, hoping that it would be drier I came in on Sunday afternoon and started and got well past the halfway point, which allowed us to get the entire nine holes done within a 24-hour period since the weather cooperated
Fast forward two weeks, and we were blessed with the presence of Tropical Storm Debby She dumped well over 4 inches of rain on us, and luckily, we missed the worst of the winds It took a full day to get the bunkers pumped out so that they could start to dry out The bulk of the men volunteered to come in on Saturday to help clean up the course The greens were mowed, the course was set up, and a whole lot of limbs were cleaned up throughout the course, as well as some blowing around the ponds, tees, and fairways where it was dry enough to do so.
It is now August 15th as of this writing, and we are a week out from that incident. The course is back in good shape, with the cleanup done and the bunkers put back together again. It has been a struggle, and the crew is a bit beat down, but we are in decent shape, and the course really does look good. I am very proud of how much effort the men have put into getting us back to and surpassing the standard. Also, we seeded the left side of fifteen green on August 14th. Hopefully, by August 21st, we will see a good bit of germination and be on the road to getting this green back in tip-top shape.
Looking forward, we are scheduled to aerify greens on August 26th and 27th. This will be the final aerification of the year on the greens. Please remember that all of the aerifications (greens, tees, and fairways) are completely necessary to keep the course in the best shape possible for you, the membership Skipping even one of the scheduled events would lead to a lesser-quality product and a shorter expected life of the greens It is not that my crew just enjoys poking holes The entire process, regardless of where, is a lot of work and not necessarily fun for anyone
I hope to see you all on the course soon!
Regards,
Craig Clemmer, Wilson Country Club Superintendent
