October 19th - November 2nd HeartsandHandsMarket.org
All proceeds support missions for women and children. Life as we know it has completely changed because of the Covid 19 pandemic. We all think, work and shop differently now. As the pandemic continues, we have made the responsible decision to keep our vendors, volunteers, staff and shoppers safe by changing our Hearts and Hands Holiday Market this year to a virtual event. This decision was not made lightly, as Hearts and Hands is so important to our community. Thanks to our outstanding vendors and happy shoppers each year, all proceeds from the market are given to women’s and children’s ministries. Now, more than ever, too much is at stake to cancel the event. These ministries are counting on our Virtual Holiday Market so they can continue to help others. Although we will miss all the excitement of our 34th physical market, shoppers will have the opportunity to do their holiday shopping with their favorite vendors while staying safe. Mission Stitchers will have all their beautiful handcrafted items on the website for your shopping pleasure. If you have any questions about the market, or if you’d like to volunteer in any way, please contact JudyBrewer@mdumc.org for details about becoming a part of this rewarding event.

SBISD ADOPT A TEACHER 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR
This school year will be extremely difficult for teachers and school staff, so we hope you will join us in supporting our schools by participating in a new ministry to “Adopt-a-Teacher” for the 2020-2021 school year. Our hope is to pair up each teacher and support staff at Hollibrook and Thornwood Elementary with a church member that will walk alongside them this school year by sending encouraging e-mails, cards, and being in prayer for them. Sign up to support a teacher at mdumc.org/missions. If you have any questions, please contact KandiceKirby@mdumc.org.
THE RESTORATION TEAM
OCTOBER 17 & NOVEMBER 14 Three years after Hurricane Harvey, there are still thousands of families waiting to move back into their homes. MDUMC is committed to working with these families and The Restoration Team to ensure they are not forgotten. Join us on Saturday, October 17 at 9 AM for our next workday to help repair and restore homes. Individuals or groups can register at mdumc.org/missions. Volunteers age 13+ and all skill levels are encouraged to participate!
FOOD AND HOME CARE DONATIONS
SUNDAY MORNINGS ON BOTH CAMPUSES TUESDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS | WEST CAMPUS - ADULT MINISTRIES CENTER | 10 AM - NOON MDUMC will continue to collect both non-perishable food items, as well as home care items such as toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning products, laundry detergent, trash bags, shampoo, and bar soap for area school families. Please drop these items off in the outside bins located on both campuses Sunday mornings, at our next Pop-Up Worship Service, or at the Adult Ministries Center on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 AM - Noon.
CROSSWALK HOUSTON UPDATE It’s a joy to welcome students and volunteers back to CrossWalk Houston as classes slowly resume. While some students improvised with zoom tutorials most of our adults do not have those capabilities and rely on CrossWalk for education and community support. In addition, your donations make it possible for CWH to provide groceries for students in need during these difficult times. In September CWH brought afternoon snacks and meals to Family Point families as students returned to school. As many of you know, CrossWalk Houston is housed at The Outreach Center of West Houston. The center is a huge blessing to our community providing discounted rent to many non-profits including Young Life, Family Point Resources, PDAP and others. Their fall golf tournament raises funds necessary to keep these much needed services in our neighborhood. Grab your clubs and enjoy a round of golf at one of Texas’s premier courses, The Clubs at Houston Oaks. Thank you for your continued support as CrossWalk Houston takes the love of Christ into our community.

Virtual teams of 4-8 people will join together to answer some challenging questions, laugh, and find community with one another. You can sign up with a team or as an individual. Contact CarrieNeal@mdumc.org with any questions! “We have loved trivia with the Families and Young Adults. We look forward to it each week! It has truly filled a large part of our empty ‘social bucket.’ We also really enjoy the breakout rooms with our team. They have allowed us to have all kinds of conversations we otherwise might not be having right now. Everything from Beyonce to Jesus and in between. It has also been nice seeing so many of the faces we used to see on Sunday mornings and getting to put a name with a face. Join us! - Lauren and Adam Oblath

The Caring Forever Foundation has a General Fund that allows the CFF Board to award grants at their discretion, as well as eleven different funds that award grants for student and clergy scholarships, missions, landscaping, media ministries, music, religious education, and other specific ministries and programs at MDUMC. We invite you to consider supporting the life-giving work of The Caring Forever Foundation by becoming a Caring Forever Patron. Please enroll at mdumc.org/cff. MEMORIAL GARDEN
MDUMC’s Memorial Garden on the east side of the church courtyard offers a quiet, comforting space to draw close to God, to give thanks, and to remember. It is a link with the Church Triumphant and proclaims the Christian faith: the beginning and the end of human life rest with God. Practically speaking, The Memorial Garden is a columbarium with niches held in a polished wall of granite engraved with personal markers for the deceased. Each niche has been entrusted to the perpetual care of MDUMC and is the responsibility of the Caring Forever Foundation. If you are a church member desiring to learn more about purchasing inurnment rights in The Memorial Garden, contact the CFF office at 713-468-8356 ext. 241.

ACTS: CATCHING UP WITH THE SPIRIT
THURSDAYS BEGINNING OCTOBER 8 (6 WEEKS) | 9:30 – 11:30 AM VIA ZOOM | LEADER: VICKY HARRIS | $13
There’s no better explanation for how to live out the Great Commission—following the instruction of the resurrected Jesus Christ to spread his teachings to all the nations of the world—than in the book of Acts. Explore key themes that illustrate the ways in which reading Acts is capable of igniting our imagination about the character of the Christian gospel, the work of God’s people (the church), and the challenges of living faithfully in a complex and changing world in this study by Matthew L. Skinner.
PROVERBS: PATHWAYS TO WISDOM BY DOMINICK HERNANDEZ WEDNESDAYS BEGINNING OCTOBER 21 (4 WEEKS) | 11 AM - 12 PM LIBRARY | LEADER: SANDY EARTHMAN
There is a lot of talk these days about “the good life.” It’s not a new topic—the Book of Proverbs talked about just that. Its sayings and bits of wisdom were collected to make the lives of people just like us run a little more smoothly. This study explores the biblical book’s well-known verses and prevalent themes in a manner that offers various interpretations, opening the way for us to see how they apply to our modern world.
MEDITATION FOR CHRISTIANS
TUESDAYS | 3 – 3:50 PM | VIA ZOOM | LEADER: BETTY CARTMELL
This class is for entering into the practice of Christian meditation. We have short contemplative times before our meditation. There is time for questions and responses plus suggestions for reading and practice. Think of it as heartfulness and listening for God. All it requires is an open heart and a desire to learn this ancient practice.
WALK TO EMMAUS: A JOURNEY WITH CHRIST MEN’S WALK | APRIL 22 - 25, 2021 WOMEN’S WALK | APRIL 29 - MAY 2, 2021
The Walk to Emmaus is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a three-day short course in Christianity. The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip local church members for Christian action in our homes, churches, communities and places of work. MDUMC has over 100 people who have participated and about 40 people who meet weekly in small groups to talk about their spiritual life. Countless members have served in many of the Emmaus activities over many years. If you are interested, please contact VickyHarris@mdumc.org.
