QUARTERLY REPORT •••• APRIL - JUNE

2020

A word from your Senior Pastor For centuries, mirrors were little more than pieces of metal that had been hammered into reflective surfaces. Dull and bumpy, ancient mirrors do not accurately reflect the world around them. But these days, highly polished mirrors allow astronomers to bring even the most distant objects of the universe into focus. And daily, I can even use one to see as I get ready for the day. As we learn, live, give, and serve together, we are hoping that this quarterly report evolves into a regularly used mirror that will allow us to measure our progress in faith. I am excited to share with you this quarterly report. Rev. Drew Essen, our Associate Pastor of Development, Randy Lee, our Chief of Staff, and I have been collaborating on how to share these significant metrics with you. We hope this report reveals our progress in each of these aspects of faithfulness. This report along with your quarterly giving statement is being sent to hopefully provide you a mirror into the difference your generosity is making in the world. Do you give? A tithe, which means ten percent, is a goal of faithful giving encouraged in scripture. There are many reasons why persons are unable to meet the goal of tithing and this report is not intended to judge those reasons, but to encourage you to move with us toward that goal. The biblical basis for tithing is not only to raise money for ministry, but to prioritize the life of the faithful. Tithing is about the giver. How we spend our money does indicate what is important to us. We believe that the ministries of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church are important to you and our community and ask that you take a step of faith with us to ensure that they continue to thrive. Through your reflection, together we will ensure that MDUMC loves God and neighbor in our community and beyond.

Your Generosity in Action LEARNING We believe that disciples of Jesus continually study, read scripture, and explore their faith together. Your generosity makes opportunities like Alpha, Pastors’ Bible Study, Contemplative Ministry, and so much more possible for all ages.

GIVING Our collective generosity enables us to share the grace of God, love our neighbors in tangible ways, and improve the world for the sake of Jesus Christ. Simply put, the dollars you contribute to Memorial Drive United Methodist Church make our world a better place!

LIVING We are meant to live life and grow in faith together. Home Groups, unique opportunities like Young Adult Trivia via Zoom, and Care Groups that provide support to those in need all provide space to live in community together, and all are made possible by your gifts.

SERVING 1200 bags of groceries for neighbors in need, uniforms for 120 students at Thornwood Elementary, a Virtual Mission Trip to Jamaica - these are just a few of the ways that your gifts have allowed us to serve our community and world during this season.
