Mishaal Almaimani: Mishaal is a Saudi development & design director with an architecture and urban design background and a graduate of the elite MISK 2030 Leaders program. He has had key involvement in numerous mega projects across KSA including Jabal Omar Development, Ministry of Housing, and the urban development of the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah. THE HEARTBEAT OF ASIR’S LIFESTYLE: CREATING A LOCAL DESTINATION FOR A GLOBAL AUDIENCE
When the first oil was struck in 1938 in Dammam, Saudi Arabia a relatively new and developing nation found itself on a historical tipping point towards economic prosperity. In its stride to quickly achieve that transition the following years resulted in the Kingdom becoming a major importer of everything from artesian water to the best talent in the world.
While there were attempts to promote local products over the years, this did not materialize until the launch of the Saudi 2030 vision and the National Transformation Program in 2016 and
fueled by the PIF’s Public Investment Fund Program 2021-2025. There has been a strong shift towards highlighting the local culture of Saudi Arabia and celebrating the diversity across its vast expanse. In this regard the government launched 4 mega projects in 2023 in Aseer: Soudah Peaks, Wadi Abha, New Abha International Airport, Abha Industrial City.
This was our mandate given to us by the board of directors when we initiated work on The Point. The direction was clear; for the visitors of The Point, it should be an Aseeri experience integrated in the local heritage and culture (Aseer is the southern region of Saudi Arabia) and
unlike anywhere else in Saudi Arabia or the world. This was a major challenge alongside delivering a new major mixeduse retail development in the post pandemic disrupted industry. Following nearly a year of design and development we emerged with a project design that celebrates Aseer’s mountainous topography, pleasant weather throughout the year, sustainably and locally sourced vegetation and building materials, and with a strong focus on homegrown
brands that are competing head on with the bastions of the retail industry.
2024 also marks the beginning of vertical construction of the project with phased openings planned as early as Q1 2026 with the full project completion by Q4 of the same year. The project team has successfully completed the site preparation with +500,000m³ of soil removed and +100,000 manhours registered. The Point has already

attracted the attention of leading major retails groups with whom we already have a long partnership at our flagship destination in Jeddah, Red Sea Mall. This is in large part due to the oversight of industry leaders such as Mr. Mohammed Alawi, board member of Red Sea Markets for Real Estate Investment Company Asir and our consultant Phil McArthur of McArthur Retail Development Specialists.
PROJECT FACTS:
• Land area: 75,000m²
• 150+ retail outlets, 40+ F&B outlets
• 150 key hotel, 100 key serviced apartments
• 50,000m² of open and green space
• Mix of uses; Medical clinics, cinema, FEC, youth center, hypermarket.

BEYOND SHOPPING: THE ART OF ENGAGEMENT IN THE EXPERIENTIAL EVOLUTION
In the ever-evolving MENA retail landscape, a new era of experiential shopping, driven by technology, is taking centre stage. Conventional transaction-based retail is evolving into immersive and engaging experiences for customers, aiming to establish deeper emotional connections, increase brand loyalty, and create memorable encounters that go beyond the act of purchasing products.
This shift is highlighted in the recently released Majid Al Futtaim 2024 Beyond Shopping Report, which revealed 79 percent of UAE based consumers and 77 percent of Saudi Arabia based consumers find it “important” or “very important” for stores to offer interactive and engaging instore experiences. Additionally, more than 80 percent of shoppers in both markets confirmed they are more likely to visit a store which offers immersive experiences compared to a store that does not.
The seamless integration of in-person, instore encounters and technologically driven experiences is where the future of brickand-mortar retail lies. A prime example of this can be seen in Majid Al Futtaim’s THAT Concept Store, which has continued to raise the bar since becoming the first complete lifestyle concept store in the region. THAT strategically integrates experiential retail and digital transformation to elevate the in-store experience and offer consumers a convenient and seamless journey, as seen with our ‘Magic Mirror’. This innovative feature transforms fitting rooms and allows customers to easily request size
The seamless integration of meaningful in-person encounters, relevant experiences, and technologically driven solutions is now essential for fostering consumer connections and achieving long-term retail success.
and colour options with the touch of a finger.
The retail experience at THAT Concept Store features a beauty hub for women, a grooming station for men, a gift wrapping corner, tailoring and a personal shopping service, which is also complemented by a pop-up space highlighting fashion and art collaborations. This approach capitalises on THAT’s unique ability to enter into a two-way dialogue with consumers and bring new trends to life in an immersive environment that adds genuine value to the shopping journey. This commitment to relevance is embedded in Majid Al Futtaim’s strategy, ensuring that
immersive experiences not only meet but anticipate the evolving expectations of customers, leaving lasting impressions and fostering meaningful engagement.
When considering immersive retail experiences, it is crucial to maintain a focus on commercial viability for sustained success. Ensuring each encounter in a retail space goes beyond novelty and genuinely adds value to the shopping journey is key to cultivating an environment where every customer interaction is a meaningful investment. When each aspect of the retail experience serves a purpose, be it through personalised services, innovative technologies, or thoughtfully curated interactions, it creates a more compelling
and memorable shopping environment, translating to increased customer loyalty, positive word-of-mouth, and repeat business—all critical elements for commercial success in today’s competitive market.
The era of mere transactions in brickand-mortar stores is fading, making room for a more immersive and engaging retail narrative tailored to the discerning desires of today’s consumers. The seamless integration of meaningful inperson encounters, relevant experiences, and technologically driven solutions is now essential for fostering consumer connections and achieving long-term retail success.

The concept of “futureproofing” in the retail & shopping industry entails adopting a proactive approach to anticipate and adapt to market shifts, thereby safeguarding and ring fencing the business against unanticipated market behaviour.
Understanding Market Shifts
At its core, a market shift signifies a fundamental change in how consumers interact with the market, influenced by economic, social, technological, and political factors. For UAE shopping centers, this includes observing regional developments such as the retail expansion in Middle East, which could potentially redirect some retailer traffic away from the UAE. Additionally, the rise of e-commerce has challenged the traditional retail model, providing consumers with convenient, alternative shopping avenues. The introduction of more gross leasable areas in the UAE increases competition among malls, while the depletion of international brands across western markets can affect the perceived exclusivity and retail availability for shopping centers.
Future-Proofing Strategies
To navigate these changes, UAE malls are employing several innovative strategies aimed at retaining their customer base and enhancing the shopping experience.
Diversification and Adaptive Reuse of
Spaces: Shopping centers are diversifying
The introduction of more gross leasable areas in the UAE increases competition among malls, while the depletion of international brands across western markets can affect the perceived exclusivity and retail availability for shopping centers.
their offerings beyond traditional retail to include entertainment, cultural, and recreational activities. Adaptive reuse of spaces allows malls to host pop-up stores, art exhibitions, and community events, transforming them into lifestyle destinations. This diversification not only attracts a broader demographic but also encourages longer visits, increasing
potential consumer spending within the mall.
Enhancing Services and Experiences: To compete with the convenience of online shopping, UAE malls are focusing on providing unique in-mall experiences that cannot be replicated online. This includes immersive entertainment options, interactive technology installations, and personalized services. By creating memorable experiences, malls can attract visitors not just for shopping but as a preferred destination for leisure and socializing.
Monitoring and Amending Category Mix: Staying attuned to consumer preferences and trends is crucial for the sustained relevance of mall offerings. Regularly monitoring the category mix and amending it to align with current demands ensures that malls remain in sync with consumer needs. This may
involve introducing more experiential stores, wellness and fitness centers, or co-working spaces to cater to the evolving lifestyle preferences of shoppers.
Leveraging Technology: Investing in technology is paramount for futureproofing. This includes implementing advanced data analytics to understand consumer behaviour, adopting omnichannel retail strategies to blend online and offline experiences, and utilizing AI and VR to enhance customer engagement. Technology can also streamline operations, improve inventory management, and personalize the shopping experience, making malls more efficient and attractive to tech-savvy consumers.
Cultivating a Social Hub: Recognizing that malls are increasingly becoming social hubs, UAE shopping centers are fostering environments conducive to socializing. This includes designing comfortable and
inviting communal spaces, hosting regular community events, and offering a diverse mix of dining and entertainment options. By positioning themselves as blend of community & destination centers, malls can attract visitors looking for social interactions and experiences beyond traditional shopping.
As the retail landscape continues to evolve, UAE shopping centers are taking proactive steps to ensure their resilience and continued attraction to consumers. By diversifying offerings, enhancing inmall experiences, leveraging technology, and fostering a sense of community, these malls are not just preparing for the future but are actively shaping it. The goal is to create dynamic, multifaceted spaces that cater to the changing lifestyle and preferences of consumers, ensuring that shopping centers remain at the heart of the UAE’s social and economic fabric for years to come.

DTC IN THE DIGITAL AGE: CAN RETAILERS KEEP PACE?
As I sip my cappuccino in the café of Dior’s recently renovated flagship boutique at 30 Avenue Montaigne in Paris, my gaze fixes on the soft glow of the elegantly pleated Diorstar cutout candle on my table. Next to it is a cannage-patterned linen-feel paper napkin, adding to the luxurious setting.
All around me is buzzing, but I am not in the mood for shopping. I am still dreamy after perusing the Maison’s iconic pieces in La Galerie Dior. Opened in 2022, the building is a destination that offers an unforgettable experience for the affluent. And for Gen Z and newer customers looking for an Instagrammable pose, there is a magnificent Dior store on the Champs Elysées.
Pietro Beccari, former chairman and CEO of Christian Dior Couture, views luxury as an emotion, an experience to be shared with friends. For him, luxury goes beyond the tangible; it’s about forging personal connections. Dior achieves this masterfully in its brick-and-mortar stores and by nurturing its already-strong presence across multiple social media channels. In 2023, with 7.7 million TikTok and 45.9 million Instagram followers, Dior was the world’s most popular luxury brand online, a significant leap from seventh place in 2019. A year earlier, it debuted on Douyin—China’s equivalent of TikTok. Dior strategically uses these platforms to establish emotional connections, bridging the gap between its physical stores and the online
world. Dior also leverages its website, often as a primary point of contact with potential customers, leading them to physical stores. Additionally, it aligns with carefully selected multi-brand retailers, reinforcing its presence in all luxury destinations.
As luxury brands craft ways to win in the direct-to-consumer (DTC) game, what will be the fate of multi-brand retailers? The
retail landscape is undergoing change on many fronts, especially in brick-and-mortar stores. The closure of iconic establishments like Barney’s in 2020 and Macy’s recent announcement that it was closing 150 stores highlights the shifting retail landscape. Even pure digital entities have been affected. Farfetch, an online luxury marketplace, was once hailed as the darling of the DTC trend. It soared during the

pandemic, but that fast-gained popularity took a turn after consumers hit the streets for the in-person experiences they had so sorely missed during the pandemic. In December 2023, news of its possible collapse shook financial markets.
In response to such trends, and as pure online loses its appeal, digitally native DTC brands are opening pop-up stores to avoid a similar fate. Traditional retailers like Neiman Marcus, a U.S. department store chain, have attracted a younger customer base by inviting DTC brands to set up dedicated spaces within their stores. So, in this evolving landscape, where there is no one-size-fits-all formula, agility and a willingness to experiment are particularly important. Are retailers ready to embrace the new direction of DTC?

ELEVATING THE ROLE OF MALLS IN COMMUNITY INTEGRATION
Malls have evolved from mere shopping centers to becoming vital pillars of the community. LuckyOne Mall is a prime example of how a strategic approach to community engagement can transform a mall into a cohesive part of a neighborhood. This shift underscores the significant impact a mall can have on the fabric of society by fostering a strong sense of community.
Expanding beyond transactional interactions, community malls increasingly focus on the unmet needs of the residents. LuckyOne Mall stands as a testament to this commitment, surpassing conventional customer engagement through the initiation of “Random Acts of Kindness.” This platform orchestrates events that extend a helping hand to oft-overlooked segments of society, from the elderly to orphans, differently-abled individuals, and terminally ill children, these occasions transcend mere gatherings, evolving into meaningful celebrations of life, inclusivity, and hope.
The launch of Victory Circuit in September 2023 further emphasizes LuckyOne Mall’s commitment to engaging youth and promoting sports diversity. Commencing with the 1st LuckyOne Mall Open Single’s Table Tennis Championship, which attracted over 400 participants nationwide, followed by the successful 1st LuckyOne Mall Open Doubles Badminton Championship in January 2024, we have set a precedence for malls in Pakistan. Beyond these, LuckyOne Mall extends its commitment to sports by sponsoring emerging athletes on the global stage.
In a world where commercial success often takes precedence, LuckyOne Mall stands as a testament to the profound impact malls can have when they embrace their role beyond commerce.
The innovative T360° initiative, encapsulating Train, Transform, Transcend, showcases our mall’s dedication to empowerment. Over 2,040 individuals, including mall, tenant, and associate staff, underwent rigorous, cost-free training in basic firefighting skills. Regular audits by independent industry experts ensured the authenticity & caliber of knowledge and skill transfer. This empowers individuals by providing valuable life support skills applicable within and outside the shopping center.
At the core of LuckyOne Mall’s mission lies an unwavering commitment to contribute to the happiness and well-being of the community it serves. The mall prides itself on fostering togetherness, promoting healthy interactions, and nurturing a spirit of unity, transcending conventional metrics of success. The strategic and holistic approach to community integration not only enhances the mall’s reputation but also solidifies its role as a catalyst for positive change.

MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENTS CAN MEET THE NEEDS OF SAUDI’S RESIDENTS AND BUSINESS ALIKE
As the Kingdom seeks to become one of the leading economies and destinations worldwide, importance will increasingly be given to how the country develops its urban areas. Vision 2030 underlines the importance of quality of life, and, as the country’s leading real estate developer, we have a vision for innovative, sustainable and inclusive communities which can be home to both families and businesses.
An example of a thriving mixed-use development can be found just minutes from Riyadh’s airport, with SEDRA and ROSHN Front. SEDRA blends traditional design with modern technologies to create homes that not only blend in with the culture, but which are also sustainable and innovative. Within this community, you can find schools, medical facilities, shopping and exercise facilities such as the Kingdom’s largest sports dome, all within walking distance.
At ROSHN, we believe in the impact that community living can bring to people’s quality of life, and residents benefit from a combination of features that are unique in the market, such as green, open spaces, pedestrian-friendly ‘living streets’, longterm maintenance and management frameworks, and walkable access to all the facilities they may need or want.
This is complemented by ROSHN Front, one of the most popular entertainment locations in the capital which hosts over 10 million visitors annually. ROSHN Front offers the best of mixed-use lifestyle retail and F&B over a space of approximately
80,000 square meters. Sitting alongside this is 80,000 m2 commercial district that features world-class modal workspaces alongside easy access and good transportation links. ROSHN Front is designed with the pedestrian in mind

and includes one kilometer of walking promenades and green spaces, alongside state-of-the-art facilities for visitors and residents alike, such as a fully-equipped fitness center, a four-star hotel and conference halls.
For the residents of SEDRA, which will feature 30,000 homes when its eight development phases are complete, they don’t need to drive to work or to the shops. Everything is quite literally on their doorstep. And for those who work in ROSHN Front, there’s no better home than one you can see from your office.
We believe that mixed-use developments like SEDRA and ROSHN Front can meet everyone’s needs, and that these concepts will prove especially popular for Saudis and residents who are looking for something different. In the years to come, we will look back and realize how much such communities have shaped the future of urban living in Saudi Arabia.

Having worked with the finest retail development firms including Brookfield, Ivanhoe Cambridge, MAF Shopping Malls, and Al Futtaim Real Estate, Phil formed his own retail advisory firm in 2011. Since that time, the McARTHUR team has worked with over 150 developers in 22 nations planning new retail destinations as well as rescuing poor-performing investments.
THE ART AND SCIENCE OF RETAIL DEVELOPMENT
Developing, leasing, and operating a first-class retail destination requires a myriad of skills and experience by the developer and team. Initial decisions such as size and location and design of the project are critical to its future success. Selecting the right attractions and anchor retailers for a project is also very important. The adage, ‘if you build it, they will come’, simply does not work any longer.
With growing competition in each market, each opportunity for an investor/ developer becomes much more strategic. One only needs to look at the successful shopping centres and retail destinations globally to realise, the leading projects are developed with three main goals in mind.
Economics
The investment model must be based on realistic financial targets. High rents do not always translate into a successful investment. Many times, developers become too optimistic about the ability of the retailer to pay higher rents. Professionals in the industry know that rent is a function of sales. The higher the sales, the higher the rent. Conversely properties with low sales and high rents will always have to adjust to be sustainable.
Function
The developer should select brands and operators that have a proven track record of serving their customers well. Gathering top retailers, good restaurants and quality service providers has always been the formula for retail development success.
Design
The shopping centre is primarily a visual experience. Customers are attracted
to a well-designed destination that has taken into consideration the needs of the consumer. Is the access and parking excellent? Does the customer enjoy the ambiance of the project and finally did the developer maintain a high standard of shop design to achieve an overall well-coordinated design effort for the centre.
At times, developers can get too attached to the design and architectural elements of a project and forget they are running revenue producing real estate business.
Initial decisions such as size and location and design of the project are critical to its future success. Selecting the right attractions and anchor retailers for a project is also very important. The adage, ‘if you build it, they will come”, simply does not work any longer.
Their focus ought to be on enhancing the value of the asset. In order to carry on this responsibility, the developers must be completely familiar with the basics of operation of their centres – not just how they physically look, but also how they function, how their tenant mix drives business and traffic, how their catchment population perceive their centres, and how their property will achieve and maintain future success. The team at McARTHUR Retail Development Specialists can help your firm find the right balance between function, economics, and design.

THE STRATEGIC ALLIANCE OF MALLS AND CORPORATES IN THE MIDDLE EAST
In the vibrant retail ecosystem of the Middle East, shopping malls are not just centres of commerce but pivotal hubs of community engagement and cultural exchange. Amidst this backdrop, the introduction of mall gift card programmes, in partnership with large corporate entities, heralds a transformative strategy poised to redefine the dynamics of customer loyalty and employee recognition.
This innovative collaboration leverages the extensive networks of corporations, such as banks and insurance companies, to offer gift cards as versatile tools for recognising staff achievements and incentivising customer loyalty. By integrating these programs, malls can significantly enhance their appeal, encouraging foot traffic and elevating the shopping experience for diverse audiences.
For employees, receiving a mall gift card as recognition for their hard work transcends the traditional bonus, offering them the freedom to choose their own rewards. This not only amplifies their satisfaction but also fosters a deeper connection with their employer, enhancing job satisfaction and employee retention.
On the customer front, the allure of receiving a gift card from trusted corporates for loyalty or as part of a retention strategy introduces a novel dimension to customer engagement. It instills a sense of valued recognition, encouraging repeat visits and prolonged loyalty to both the corporate brand and the mall itself. This synergy not only boosts sales but also strengthens brand positioning for both parties in the competitive retail landscape of the Middle East.
The collaboration between malls and corporate organisations in deploying gift card programmes represents a forward-thinking approach to retail marketing in the Middle East.
Furthermore, malls can harness these partnerships to create personalised marketing campaigns, targeting specific demographics with tailored offers that resonate with their interests and preferences. This strategic personalisation enhances the effectiveness of promotional efforts, driving higher redemption rates and increased sales volumes.
Essentially, the collaboration between malls and corporate organisations in deploying gift card programmes represents a forward-thinking approach to retail marketing in the Middle East. It’s a testament
to the power of strategic alliances in creating mutually beneficial outcomes—elevating brand visibility, enriching customer and employee experiences, and ultimately, fostering a more vibrant and connected retail community.

TRANSFORMATION OF SHOPPING CENTERS INTO INTEGRATED LIFE CENTERS: A NEW URBAN RETAIL EXPERIENCE
New concepts go beyond traditional shopping malls to offer consumers a combination of shopping, entertainment, dining, work, and even living spaces in mixed-use complexes.
This transformation reflects broader trends in retail due to consumer behaviors. Malls, as places for socializing along shopping, are now centers for new experiences.
Changes in Functions: Malls are converting to multi-functional hubs incorporating different services and experiences to attract more visitors. Some malls now house co-working spaces, wellness areas, and experience stores, blending shopping with leisure and work. The integration of coworking spaces caters to the rising need of freelancers and remote workers, offering them convenient workspaces. Wellness areas include fitness centers, spas, or healthfocused retail outlets, responding to growing health consciousness among consumers.
Experience Stores: Retailers are creating more immersive shopping experiences, focusing on customer engagement. Experience stores offer interactive product demonstrations, workshops, and events to build brand loyalty and increase shopping.
Entertainment Centers: While special playgrounds built especially for children stand out, new generation technological entertainment concepts and areas that combine entertainment and learning, expressed as edu-tainment, attracts
wider audiences to malls by hosting openair events, concerts, stand-ups and art shows, becoming social cultural venues.
Sustainability Initiatives: Malls adopt eco-friendly practices, installing solar panels on roofs to generate energy, to lower carbon footprints. This aligns with sustainability goals and improves public image of the shopping malls.
Digitalization, Omni-Channel, OnlineOffline Cooperation: Customers might buy a product online and pick it up instore, or try a product in-store and then order it online. This approach benefits both consumers and retailers by providing convenience and flexibility.
Online Retailers Opening Physical Stores:
Digital native brands are looking for physical spaces. While digital native brands were born and made known through social media or online advertisements, in recent times some of them operating in a physical space. E-commerce giants like Amazon opening physical stores in shopping malls is an interesting trend reversal. It shows the ongoing relevance of physical retail spaces and how online and offline retail can complement each other.
In summary, these changes reflect an effort to make shopping centers more than just places to shop, turning them into integrated lifestyle hubs that cater to a wide array of needs and preferences, leveraging technology and sustainability.
REVOLUTIONIZING RETAIL: THE POWER OF DYNAMIC PRICING AND ELECTRONIC SHELF LABELLING
In an ever-evolving retail landscape, staying competitive requires more than just stocking shelves. Retailers are turning to innovative solutions such as dynamic pricing and electronic shelf labelling (ESL) technology to streamline operations, enhance customer experiences, and maximize profitability.
These technologies and in particular, PriceoniX with our leading Next Generation SaaS solutions, offer a myriad of benefits that are reshaping the retail sector and paving the way for a more efficient and customer-centric shopping experience.
ESL technology provides shoppers with up-to-date pricing, product descriptions, and promotions, empowering them to make informed purchasing decisions.
By offering accurate and transparent pricing, retailers can build stronger relationships with customers, ultimately enhancing the overall shopping experience.
The ability to respond swiftly to market
changes is essential for retailers to stay competitive. Dynamic pricing enables retailers to adjust prices in real-time based on factors such as demand, competition, and inventory levels. By leveraging dynamic pricing strategies, retailers can maximize profitability while remaining agile in a rapidly changing market.
Manual price adjustments can be laborintensive and costly for retailers. By implementing ESL technology and dynamic pricing solutions, retailers can significantly reduce operational costs associated with manual price changes.
Data analytics play a crucial role in understanding customer preferences and behavior. By leveraging data collected through ESL technology and dynamic pricing systems, retailers can gain valuable insights into customer buying patterns, preferences, and trends. This enables retailers to create targeted promotions and personalized experiences that resonate with their customer base, driving sales and customer loyalty in an increasingly competitive retail environment.

THE DYNAMICS OF FASHION IN RETAIL
In the fast-paced world of retail, fashion is a driving force that constantly shapes consumer choices and industry strategies. Fashion in retail has undergone a profound transformation in recent years, influenced by changing consumer behaviors, technological advancements, and the rise of sustainability concerns.
The Digital Revolution:
The digital revolution has significantly impacted how consumers interact with fashion. Online shopping has become a dominant force, prompting retailers to establish a robust online presence. Mobile apps, virtual try-ons, and augmented reality features have revolutionized the way customers browse and purchase fashion items. The integration of technology has blurred the lines between online and offline shopping, creating a seamless and interconnected retail experience.
Consumer-Centric Approach:
Modern retail is increasingly adopting a consumer-centric approach, where understanding and catering to individual preferences is key. With the rise of e-commerce and mobile shopping, retailers are leveraging data analytics to gain insights into customer behaviors. This data-driven approach allows for personalized marketing, tailored recommendations, and a more engaging shopping experience.
Sustainability and Ethical Practices:
Sustainability has emerged as a critical factor in the fashion retail industry. Consumers are increasingly conscious of the environmental and ethical implications of their purchases. As a result, retailers are adopting sustainable practices, including eco-friendly materials, ethical sourcing, and transparent supply chains. The shift towards sustainability not only aligns with
consumer values but also contributes to a positive brand image.
Fast Fashion vs. Conscious Consumption:
The traditional model of fast fashion, characterized by rapid production and quick turnover of trends, is facing challenges from a growing movement towards conscious consumption. Consumers are now more inclined to invest in quality, timeless pieces rather than succumbing to the allure of disposable fashion. This shift is prompting retailers to reconsider their production processes and emphasize durability and craftsmanship.
Adapting to Changing Trends:
Fashion in retail is inherently dynamic, with trends constantly evolving. Successful retailers are those who can quickly adapt to these changes. This adaptability involves staying ahead of fashion trends, embracing new technologies, and responding to the increasing demand for sustainable and ethical practices
Conclusion:
Fashion in retail is a dynamic and everchanging domain, influenced by consumer preferences, technological innovations and societal values. To thrive in this dynamic landscape, retailers must be agile, embracing digital transformations, prioritizing sustainability, and staying attuned to evolving consumer behaviors. The future of fashion in retail lies in the ability to strike a balance between innovation, consumer satisfaction, and ethical responsibility. As the industry continues to evolve, those who navigate these challenges with resilience and foresight are poised to leave a lasting mark on the ever-shifting canvas of fashion in retail.
CX AND RETAIL –CREATING VALUE FROM CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
For CX leaders seeking value from their programs, a recent global study shows the path to faster ROI is to build the skills, resources and motivation to create customer mindsets with customer focused solutions
In today’s digital age, where consumer behavior and expectations are continuously evolving, retail brands must prioritize and refine their customer experience (CX) strategies to remain competitive and relevant. The increasing preference of consumers to shop online, even for big-ticket items, challenges retail brands to deliver not just products but exceptional multichannel experiences throughout the customer journey.
A recent global study by TribeCX and Michigan State University, on measuring value from CX, highlights the significant impact of integrating CX into the corporate culture and equipping teams with the skills to design purposeful experiences. Also, implementing customer-focused solutions expedites the return on investment, and ensures sustainable growth and customer loyalty.
In the retail sector, the digital transformation of the shopping experience is a critical area where CX can make a substantial difference. For instance, enhancing the pre-purchase journey with interactive websites and real-time customer support can significantly boost consumer confidence and lead to higher conversion rates. Furthermore, during the purchase and delivery stages, ensuring flexibility and reliability can enhance customer satisfaction and promote repeat business.
However, merely investing in technology and tools without a corresponding investment in people and culture tends to yield longer returns on investment, the study confirms. It reinforces the importance of a balanced approach where technology enhances human capabilities and where CX design and culture maturity are prioritized to achieve quicker and more effective results.
Ultimately, for retail brands looking to excel in the marketplace, the key lies in creating seamless, intuitive, and highly personalized shopping experiences that resonate with consumers. By creating a customer-first culture and design meaningful experiences, retailers can not only achieve a faster return on investment, but also build a loyal customer base that views their multi-channel interfaces as the go-to for their shopping needs.

Souq7 project in Jeddah is a retailbased urban regeneration initiative that aims to revitalize the old souq district in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals. Developed by Azad Properties, Souq7 spans over 4,000 stores across 110 buildings on a 700,000 square meter site. It offers a comprehensive shopping and lifestyle experience that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity.
The architecture of each zone within Souq7 reflects a unique style, ranging from contemporary interpretations of traditional souq design to modern shop designs. The Traditional Market and Food Stuffs Zone features elements such as Islamic arches, natural stone, painted plaster, and reclaimed wood, while other zones utilize materials like concrete panels, metal sliding doors, and metal louvers.
The Family & Entertainment Zone is particularly impressive, with its doubleheight area, shaded restaurant terraces, a central plaza with fountains, and large video screens. Sustainability was a
key consideration, with passive design techniques, landscaping, shading, and waste management practices incorporated into the project.
Moreover, Souq7 has become more than just a shopping destination. It has become a dynamic hub for various events, exhibitions, and cultural activities. The project’s central plaza serves as a gathering place for the community, hosting concerts, art shows, and traditional performances. This vibrant social and cultural scene has further elevated Souq7’s appeal, attracting visitors from across Jeddah and beyond.
Another notable aspect of Souq7 is its positive impact on the local economy. The project has created numerous job opportunities, ranging from construction and leasing to retail and hospitality. It has also stimulated business growth in the surrounding area, as new shops, restaurants, and services have emerged to cater to the increased foot traffic generated by Souq7.
The redevelopment of Jeddah’s old souq into Souq7 was driven by the objective of enhancing the retail experience and realizing the aspirations of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, and aimed to create a contemporary shopping experience, optimize leasing procedures and revenues, and contribute to the overall urban regeneration. The old souq had faced challenges such as disorganization, inadequate infrastructure, and safety concerns. Azad Properties, a real estate development company specializing in innovative and sustainable projects, took on the task of transforming the old souq into a modern retail hub, Souq7 has successfully brought order, modernity, and safety to the previously disorganized souq district, elevating the overall appeal of the area through a wide range of retail options, and lifestyle amenities.
The impact of Souq7 extends beyond the
immediate area, aligning with the goals of Vision 2030 and contributing to the revitalization of Jeddah’s urban fabric. Despite challenges such as a reduced local population and its suburban location, Souq7 has achieved an impressive 70% absorption rate, indicating its appeal to both tenants and customers.
Azad Properties, established in 2017, has demonstrated a strong commitment to revitalizing urban areas and creating vibrant spaces that cater to the community’s needs and aspirations. It has employed a strategic leasing approach to attract tenants, including direct line store rentals and built-to-suit blocks. This approach has been successful, with Souq7 achieving an impressive 70% absorption rate. The project has significantly transformed the district and brought order, modernity, and safety while preserving its cultural heritage.
The financial performance of Souq7 has been positive, with projected leasing revenues surpassing those of the old souq by a significant margin. The project has not only revitalized the retail sector but also contributed to job creation and economic growth in the area.
Furthermore, Souq7 has become a catalyst for cultural exchange and tourism. Its unique blend of traditional and contemporary elements has attracted visitors from around the world, eager to explore the rich heritage of the souq while enjoying the modern amenities and shopping opportunities.
In conclusion, the Souq7 project has successfully breathed new life into Jeddah’s old Souq district. Through its strategic design, sustainability practices, and community-oriented approach, Souq7 has not only revitalized the physical space but also created a sense of pride and belonging among the residents of Jeddah. As a shining example of urban regeneration, Souq7 exemplifies the transformative power of visionary projects aligned with the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
