RESPONDING TO THE CHANGING WORK LANDSCAPE

The modern workplace has evolved into a dynamic environment that inspires, empowers, and engages. Driven by key factors such as the changing work habits or preferences of the new generation entering the work force, the ever-evolving business landscape and accelerated growth of technology. Companies consider it crucial to transform their workplaces to cater to these changes. Rather than simply requiring attendance, future workplaces should be a place that attracts, motivates individuals and offer a holistic work experience.

TOWARDS THE FUTURE OF WORK

Drawing People Back to Office

The office should be a vibrant hub, not just a functional space. These ‘living’ workplace will aim to inspire and engage, blending work and play. Be it a hybrid setting or a mandatory 5-day returnto-work policy, the workplace will require to be highly flexible, welcoming and expected to cater to a variety of workstyles or settings. For example, with communal areas doubling up as informal chat venues, every detail, from the layout to the lighting will be carefully considered to enable compelling work experience to draw people in.

Technology Driven Technology is reshaping the future of work. Mobile apps, advanced conferencing tools and augmented reality are empowering

employees, enhancing collaboration, and streamlining processes. AI-powered tools are optimising spaces and personalising work experience. By leveraging technology, we can create a more efficient, innovative, and engaging workspace.

A Place to Foster Positivity By understanding how people work and interact, we can design environments that foster a sense of belonging, promote productivity, creativity, and well-being. This involves creating spaces that support both focused work and social interaction. Key topics on wellness, sustainability and experiential branding will all be considered and covered in enabling holistic work experiences.

In conclusion, the future of work lies in creating spaces that are not only functional but also inspiring. As we continue to develop design strategies to support clients’ goals, we look forward to workspaces that attract and retain top talent, drive innovation, and ultimately, shape the future of work.

Journey Through Suntory

Embracing Fluidity

Drawing inspiration from Suntory’s philosophy of “Mizu to Ikiru,” or living with water, the office design captures the essence of this concept. Water flows freely, meandering along unique paths while harmonising with elements it touches, translating into a distinct spatial identity that embodies the Suntory brand.

The design envisions a space that conveys fluidity and equilibrium, incorporating circular features, ripple patterns, and flowing waves. The thoughtful application of Suntory’s brand colours further unifies the environment, while the deliberate absence of sharp corners fosters an open and interconnected atmosphere, creating a workspace that reflects both nature and the company’s values.

The experiential walkway leading to the reception offers a delightful journey into the world of Suntory and its range of beverages. Enhanced with a water trellis design that represents ripple effects, the product display along the walkway slowly reveals its surprises. Arranged at a 45-degree angle, the display casts an anamorphic effect on the Suntory signage visible from the lift lobby.

Rather than segmenting the office into isolated zones, the space plan embraced intertwining zones catering to diverse needs. Inspired by Suntory’s product colours and Singapore’s public housing flats, the zones feature vibrant hues of blue, yellow, purple and green.

Taking inspiration from the surrounding neighbourhood, the zones also include playful references to the local context through customised signages and murals.

Design for Discovery and Harmony

Extending the concept of fluidity, the office’s design guides its users to embrace discovery, connection and harmony.

TOP: The boardroom design combines the use of wood with the company’s corporate colours to project a professional disposition.

THIS PHOTO: The experiential walkway showcases Suntory’s beverages, featuring a 45-degree display that creates an engaging effect on the signage.

Recognising that a well-designed workspace can significantly enhance employee engagement, Ipsos collaborated with DB&B Shanghai to reimagine their office environment. The goal was to create a dynamic space that not only embraced contemporary design trends but also reflected Ipsos’s core values of individuality, diversity, and creativity. This collaborative effort aimed to foster a vibrant culture that supports their workforce, ensuring that every employee feels valued and inspired in their new surroundings.

Design To Engage

Central to the Ipsos office design was the belief that people are the most valuable assets in the workplace. The design was carefully developed to foster social connections, enhance collaboration, and support employee health and well-being. By emphasising these aspects, the new office environment transformed into a sanctuary where employees could engage, connect, and draw inspiration in their daily work.

DESIGNING FOR NEURODIVERSITY

HAWORTH LEADS THE WAY IN DESIGNING INCLUSIVE AND ADAPTIVE WORKSPACES WHERE EVERYONE – INCLUDING NEURODIVERGENT EMPLOYEES – CAN THRIVE AND REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.

and independent work settings.

THIS PHOTO: Neurodivergent individuals benefit from a dynamic work environment that they can navigate effortlessly between collaborative
THIS PHOTO: Designing a variety of spaces that take into account the effects of neurodiverse employees’ sensitivities, and even colour choices can make a big difference.

In today’s workforce, creating an environment where all employees can thrive is no longer optional—it’s essential. With around 15-20% of the global population identifying as neurodivergent, addressing their unique needs has become a priority for companies. Leading office design brand Haworth recognises this and emphasises the importance of designing workspaces that cater to neurodivergent employees, whose cognitive functions may differ from neurotypical individuals. Neurodiversity refers to the natural variations in how people think and behave. Conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Dyslexia, and Anxiety are part of this spectrum. For many neurodivergent individuals, certain elements in their work environment— such as lighting, noise, or clutter—can cause stress and disrupt productivity. By designing workspaces that accommodate these sensitivities, companies can create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and able to contribute fully.

According to Haworth, the key to inclusive workspaces lies in creating “legible” environments that promote comfort, ease, and a sense of belonging. The brand highlights several key design features to create dynamic yet inclusive work environments: quiet zones for focused work free from distractions, clear wayfinding with easyto-understand signage for stress-free navigation, and flexible seating offering a range of options like individual

They also emphasise choice in spaces and tools, allowing employees to select environments that fit their needs, and lighting control with adjustable or natural lighting to prevent overstimulation. Together, these elements foster a more productive and supportive workplace for all employees.

Supporting neurodiversity goes beyond accommodating a subset of employees – it’s about creating a workplace where everyone has the opportunity to succeed. For Haworth, the goal is simple: the brand aims to create spaces where everyone can thrive and work well. By designing environments that are adaptable to individual needs, the brand empowers employees to achieve their full potential, fostering a culture of inclusivity and innovation.

FOR MANY NEURODIVERGENT INDIVIDUALS, CERTAIN ELEMENTS IN THEIR WORK ENVIRONMENT—SUCH AS LIGHTING, NOISE, OR CLUTTER— CAN CAUSE STRESS AND DISRUPT PRODUCTIVITY. BY DESIGNING WORKSPACES THAT ACCOMMODATE THESE SENSITIVITIES, COMPANIES CAN CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE EVERYONE FEELS COMFORTABLE AND ABLE TO CONTRIBUTE FULLY.
