uiding property developer JQZ through their first commercial interior project, Sheldon’s team created a space that satisfies the needs of evolving work styles and houses a generous socialisation area. Leased prior to the completion of the project, this design pushed the boundaries of what a speculative office suite can achieve. The client’s brief leveraged Sheldon’s expertise in crafting speculative suites that stand out in the market and seamlessly integrate with the overall aesthetic of new developments. Detailed planning and conversations ensured the suites would not only attract potential tenants but surpass competing buildings in terms of quality and value, highlighting the value of this new commercial hub in the northern Sydney suburb of St Leonards. Sheldon’s expertise, deep understanding of the client’s vision, and ability to translate that vision into actionable plans helped refine the initial inquiry into a well-defined and comprehensive brief.

COLLABORATION ENABLED THROUGH A SEAMLESS FLOW OF SPACES A standout feature of this 1155sqm space is the large open plan breakout area, designed and constructed for the entrance of the suite to accommodate for several uses, from entertaining, events and gatherings, to larger team meetings. The space consists of a generous kitchen break area, a town hall presentation space with tiered amphitheatre seating, reception, and a client lounge area that flows into the board room. These elements flow seamlessly, promoting a collaborative and social work environment that will cater to the needs of both the tenants and their clients. The commitment to activity based working through the diversity of spaces accommodates for evolving and new companies, future proofing the space for a wide range of tenancies.

A CALMING LIBRARY RETREAT The library, a unique inclusion to this fitout, provides a calm focus area. The dark features of the space, frosted window, and acoustic ceiling panels achieve a positive sensory experience and can act as a retreat for those requiring quiet time throughout the day. The inclusion of this space adds a spatial modality to the suite that provides variety to clients in addition to the collaborative and social areas. An adherence to acoustic and wellness based design captivates users and accommodates for a range of preferences.

A TIMELESS DESIGN To match the flexibility and future focus of the workpoints in the suite, the materiality and palette designed for the space is timeless, with a subtle sophistication making the most of natural finishes and biophilia. The standout material highlight is the elegant stone bench top in the front of house kitchen, paired with dark joinery and a small tree rising from the kitchen island (birch to match the colour of the stone). Additional design highlights include the scalloped meeting room table legs, translucent curtains to open and enclose the library and collaboration areas, and arched partitions in the entrance to the library as well as the quiet focus booths in the workstation area.

SUSTAINABILITY Sustainability was a key feature and target of this project, reflecting the values of both JQZ and Sheldon. JQZ took a proactive step by involving a Green Star consultant who thoroughly reviewed the documentation before any orders were placed, ensuring compliance with sustainability standards. The building is targeting a 5-star Green Star rating and 5-star NABERS rating, so it was important that the interior of the suite match these standards. The response to the completed project has been overwhelmingly positive. JQZ’s appreciation for the project’s quality, design, and execution was evident through their prompt securing of a tenant even before the project’s completion. This level of success is testament to the considered design planning and meticulous execution by Sheldon’s internal divisions.

he evolution of hybrid working and the emergence of working in third spaces such as cafés and libraries has increased employee’s expectations of comfort in the workplace. Office trends have begun to adopt residential design features and functionalities to make employees feel at home in the workplace and allow the transition between spaces in a hybrid working environment to become seamless. “Resimercial” design provides much needed comfort to the workspace, bringing together elements from the residences, cafés, and traditional workstations that have become popular with professionals during the rise of remote working. At 323 Castlereagh St, Sheldon designed and constructed three suites for LaSalle Investment Management with these residential features in mind. Fittingly titled the ‘coastal retreat’, ‘arthouse’, and ‘inner city loft’, the suites each have strong visual identities, capturing moments of comfort and elegance to make the spaces future-focused and stand out in the market.

THE ARTHOUSE Suite two was inspired by an arthouse, a contemporary space that fosters creativity through bold design choices. We sought to create a dynamic suite featuring prominent tiles, black features, and strong textural elements. The palette is sophisticated and edgy, with dark colours serving as a bold backdrop for the punchy tiling, exposed ceiling, feature carpets and light fixtures. Key spaces of this suite that take advantage of this design direction are the contemporary kitchen area, fitted with feature stone bench tops and custom joinery from Sheldon’s manufacturing division, and the curtain enclosed breakout space that can be adapted for presentations, quiet work, and informal meetings. These flexible spaces are important for companies looking to provide a wide array of modalities for their employees in a small space, as the priority of the office turns to collaboration and interaction.

THE INSPIRATION FOR SUITE ONE WAS A COASTAL RETREAT, EMBODYING THE SEASIDE THROUGH ITS SOFT PALETTE WITH ACCENTS OF CLAY, CREAM, AND WHITE. THE AESTHETIC OF THE SPACE IS MUTED, RESIDENTIAL, AND FEMININE, TAKING ADVANTAGE OF NATURAL LIGHT AND SPLASHES OF BIOPHILIA.

THE COASTAL RETREAT The inspiration for suite one was a coastal retreat, embodying the seaside through its soft palette with accents of clay, cream, and white. The aesthetic of the space is muted, residential, and feminine, taking advantage of natural light and splashes of biophilia. The shape of the space complements this visual identity, with elegant curves customised by Sheldon’s joinery and partitioning teams, sculpting work points that blend together to create an appealing flow throughout the office. With offices often feeling rigid in their structure, the graceful nature of this suite allows it to stand out as a workplace that prioritises wellness. Functionally, this suite boasts an array of adaptable work points. For the size of the suite, the kitchen breakout area is intentionally generous, providing a central location with comfortable seating options for employees to socailise and relax. Collaboration opportunities, a priority within the hybrid workplace, have been made a primary focus of the suite. Small meeting rooms and breakout points such as the curtain-enclosed lounge area indicate spaces where employees can casually collaborate.

THE INNER CITY LOFT Suite three emulates the feel of an inner-city loft, tying a complete residential feel into a workplace. Complementing the detailed textures of the porcelain herringbone tiles and teal upholstery, the colour selection for the paint and other finishes is a tranquil combination of teals, greys and whites. The subtlety of the painted surfaces provide a homey welcome to visitors and staff, asserted by the walnut joinery. Splashes of ‘Jade’ and ‘Kingfisher’ in the wall textures and seating, as well as the biophilia, bring nature into the space, further committing to tranquillity. Functionally, the space contains an array of modularity, as well as a wide range of breakout spaces. A particular highlight is the tiered seating unit created by Sheldon Manufacturing, enabling a space for presentations and casual collaboration. The diversity of spaces allow employees to move freely between work points to maximise comfort and productivity.

ovo Nordisk, a global pharmaceuticals company headquartered in Denmark, engaged Sheldon to design and construct its new office over two floors in North Sydney. Having designed their previous office, Sheldon guided Novo Nordisk through an extensive workplace strategy and design process that enabled them to better cater to their team’s diverse needs in a post-Covid working world. WORKPLACE STRATEGY HIGHLIGHTS NEED FOR DIVERSE SPACES The strategy process involved consultations with Novo Nordisk’s leaders to understand current workplace design trends and their future needs. Feedback showed that employees desired more focused areas and simultaneously more places to socialise and collaborate. This formed the basis of our split-level design, with one floor dedicated to quiet spaces and the other to social spaces. This strategy also tied into Novo Nordisk’s need to better cater to neurodiverse employees and different working styles.

The office is designed to cater to people’s needs on any given day, with a variety of workstations and environments. “We found when we only had one floor, we were trying to do two different things on the same floor. Obviously, you can’t have a quiet area and a loud area when it’s one open plan floor, so being able to separate the floor has a real demarcation effect when going between floors, or which floor you consciously choose to work on in a day,” said Novo Nordisk’s Director of People and Organisation, Eleanor Clifford. As is evident in our workplaces, everyone has unique preferences for their working environment, which may fluctuate day to day or change over time. Neurodiversity includes those with diagnoses of conditions including ADHD and autism, but also those who are undiagnosed. Due to the significant number of people who are affected by neurodiversities, it is important that a workplace provides flexibility to accommodate the needs of staff.

THE FOCUS FLOOR The design of Novo Nordisk includes a focus floor for quiet, calming workspaces, enriched with plants and serene environments. The biophilia enhances the calming nature of this space, while the Scandinavian and Danish design features, reflecting Novo Nordisk’s heritage, also provide touches of tranquillity. The key highlights of the focus floor include a beautiful wellness area that wraps around into this organic shape that looks out over the harbour, with an emphasis on biophilia to make people feel calm. Moving through the space there are several little library nooks and quiet booths that people can retreat into and have a quiet focus area. Other elements of this floor are the small collab rooms and café area with booth seating and an island kitchen for employees to take a break. THE COLLABORATION FLOOR In contrast, the collaborate floor is intended for social

interactions, with open and stand-up meeting spaces. Each space is designed to emphasise workplace happiness, wellbeing, and inclusivity, which are key values of Novo Nordisk. They also featured First Nations culture and art through a mural, furniture from Indigenous suppliers and meeting rooms named after Indigenous places. On the collaboration floor Sheldon made sure that a lot of the elements that we put into the design were completely hackable and movable. The level 10 kitchen is a multi-use space, for staff socialisation, town hall settings, Friday drinks, training, and presentations. On this level all of the meeting / breakout rooms are completely different, causing staff to have a different experience in all of the rooms, inspiring collaboration, innovation, and team bonding moments. Material highlights include biophilia, incorporation of branding colours, and the large wrap around stone top island unit in the kitchen area.

ADAPTABILITY AND FLEXIBILITY These workplace trends were central to the design. This is particularly evident on the collaboration floor, a collaborative space with modular, fully movable seating and future-focused meeting areas, contrasting with the focused environment on level 6. The two-floor approach also tackles the challenges in their previous space where people working close the kitchen breakout area were easily distracted. Sheldon’s design successfully met Novo Nordisk’s brief for a space that promotes flexibility, caters to the diverse needs of employees and fosters innovation.

W
estern Earth Moving (WEM) is a civil construction company that had previously worked out of the same office space for 65 years. Having grown significantly over time, it’s safe to say WEM was well overdue a relocation and an office upgrade. Sheldon stepped in as the ideal partner to design and construct their new workplace. In a post-Covid world, the timing was right for WEM to embrace new ways of working that reflect their company and culture. With Sheldon’s design and workplace strategy expertise, WEM had the confidence to adopt a highly collaborative and socially focused workplace that supports its office-based and site-based staff. Sheldon’s 1260sqm design focused on providing WEM with a contemporary, open plan and importantly hybrid layout. Sheldon’s in-house manufacturing division manufactured and installed a large booth seating unit built from custom joinery for use in the kitchen and break out area. Multiple open and closed meeting spaces were built with the latest in collaborative furniture offerings and audiovisual technology to support teamwork.

CELEBRATING WEM’S RICH HISTORY Whilst WEM was modernising its office space with a future focused design, it was important for their new workplace to reflect their long history of supporting Australian industry. The meeting rooms reflect this history by displaying on site images of WEM’s operations through wall murals, in addition to displaying significant items and awards. Additionally, a visual timeline of WEM’s history is displayed across a wall in the entrance area, an instant acknowledgement of the company’s journey for visitors.

PROMOTING WELLNESS AT WORK The design also highlights the importance of promoting mental health and wellbeing by introducing biophilia throughout the space, with plenty of plants built into joinery and furniture selections. A key feature kept from WEM’s original office was the barber shop, as it’s a Friday tradition at WEM for a barber to come in for the day and give haircuts. Sheldon built a dedicated barber room complete with a barber’s chair and a traditional red, white and blue barber’s pole. TRANSITIONING TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY The design incorporated new business procedures to help minimise WEM’s impact on the environment. This was done through streamlining waste and recycling processes. WEM transitioned from using individual staff bins to communal waste recycling and went fully paperless. Sheldon designed the space with no built form on

the perimeter of the floorplate to communalise the internal spaces. All workstations, breakout and collaboration zones on the perimeter maximise natural light and daylight penetrations, encouraging wellbeing and connection to the outdoors. Highly efficient LED lighting is used throughout all spaces to reduce power consumption. All lighting is controlled by PIR sensors to reduce use when the space is unoccupied. Sheldon’s value-adding approach looks for unique opportunities within each project, through their internal divisions working together to enhance the design and construction process. This design has had a profound impact on the way WEM conducts its day-to-day business, coming all the way from its origins in an older style office structure to a modern and welcoming space. “Our new office has helped improve our workplace culture. We collaborate more, have more team discussions, and have found that since moving into the new office we have a lot more of our site team members visiting, which is really great,” said Alyssa Kupresanin, EA, WEM.

he Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) is an independent national statutory authority, based in Sydney. It is responsible for the implementation of the National Quality Framework for children’s education and care services. Following a competitive tender process, Sheldon was appointed by ACECQA to develop and complete the design and construction of a 1450sqm office fitout and relocation for the organisations’ 120 staff. To accommodate ACECQA’s operations for future generations, Sheldon designed an office fitout that supported the organisation’s current needs and was adaptable to future workplace changes. Sheldon’s design team worked closely with Sheldon’s internal teams including electrical/ technology and manufacturing to ensure innovation, quality and value for money was achieved. To suit ACECQA’s hybrid working arrangements and cultural objectives, Sheldon implemented several workpoints to suit a wide range of users. Key features of the spatial planning include the open plan kitchen, reception, and breakout spaces, navigated through a circular traffic flow.

The new collaborative spaces provide ample opportunity for teams to communicate, complementing an open plan flow of workstations and breakout areas that take advantage of harbour views. These features ensure that ACECQA can facilitate a multitude of participation styles, ensuring a truly future-proofed workplace. The technology considerations of the space also accommodate a future of hybrid working and remote communication. Highlights include the wrap-around audio system in the conference room, and the booking system implemented for meeting rooms.

overnment workplaces are no longer tired places with outdated designs. New workplaces and ways of working highlight the need for innovative, inviting and sustainable design across all sectors, and the government is no exception. Sheldon was engaged to design and construct four floors of a Commonwealth government agency in Canberra. Sheldon created a workspace that is future proofed and flexible enough to meet changing workplace needs. It’s a space that can expand, contract and adapt while supporting the agency’s employee value proposition for attracting and retaining the best people. THE WORKPLACE IS THE GATEWAY TO THE ORGANISATION During the design process, Sheldon collaborated with workplace strategists to understand the government’s new ways of working and requirements. Extending over four floors, this agency’s headquarters is the gateway to its organisation. The space is an impressive new home for staff facilitating a keen return to the office. Several meeting

and collaborative spaces ensure the space is functional whilst inspiring innovation and creativity. The variety of collaboration zones encourage micro communities within the space, while the light filled kitchen breakout provides an opportune space for relaxation and staff gatherings. Sheldon aimed to encourage movement throughout the large space across all four floors in which teams are spread out. Different work settings are provided throughout the space to encourage people to change their setting suited to their activity throughout the day. Sit to stand workstations and hot desks were a key component in facilitating this. Sheldon’s inhouse manufacturing team built custom designed lockers where staff can leave clothes, to enable staff exercise routines and support overall workplace wellbeing.

INNOVATIONS IN JOINERY To enhance sustainability for this project, Sheldon designed and constructed a modular meeting room display unit, affectionately named the “Peterman” that can be used in meeting rooms and offices. The units were designed to be relocated and re-used in the future, as a means of reducing environmental impact and pressure on landfill. Joinery that is procured through Sheldon’s in-house manufacturing means Sheldon manages supply chain risks during a tight construction time frame, as much is manufactured locally. Other noteworthy joinery pieces created for this project include modular furniture, lockers and feature perforated ceiling tiles. To meet the agency’s AV integration requirements, Sheldon worked with their AV provider by involving our

dedicated electrical/data Project Manager to collaborate early on in the process. This ensured a seamless and timely delivery of AV integration. Sheldon’s internal manufacturing division also created an efficient wall unit that incorporated the AV requirements whilst integrating with the overall design concept. Sheldon worked with the agency’s Indigenous Procurement Policy and developed an Indigenous Procurement Plan to achieve this across all four floors. Sheldon incorporated the use of furniture, contractors, artworks and artifacts supplied by First Nations businesses to create a workplace that acknowledges and celebrates the First Nations culture and people of the region.

ncreasing requirements of the modern workplace have caused companies to rethink the purpose and value that the office provides to their employees. The workplace needs to do more than provide a place to get work done; it needs to nurture and provide flexibility to tenants so that they get their best work done. The office needs to create value in a way that ‘earns’ the commute. Sheldon completed several suites for LaSalle Investment Management at 323 Castlereagh St in Sydney’s CBD, which prioritise employee wellbeing and spatial adaptability through their design, accommodating for a range of work styles amongst a visually pleasing backdrop. FUTURE-PROOFING LEVEL 16 Strategies to create the three adaptable and future-proofed suites on Level 16 included dynamic and modular workpoints, considerations of employee wellbeing such as biophilia and break room amenities, sensory considerations, and designing to accommodate hybrid workforces. The brick wall feature element in the reception and boardroom areas of Suite 1 gives the space depth and purpose, standing out from traditional waiting room design. A feature ceiling was designed and included from reception through to the kitchen breakout area and boardroom, adding further dimension to the space. Other highlights

meeting rooms along the workstation area. The proximity between these spaces provides a visual togetherness which aligns with current workplace trends.
of the suite include the dark kitchen with residential features, and the circular meeting area with dark green curtain that can be closed or opened as required. Suite two stands out for its bold commitment to a dark palette, paired with plenty of biophilia to create an atmosphere that supports workplace wellness. The flow of workpoints supports this prioritisation of wellbeing with the dark green reception and conference room area leading directly through to the open plan kitchen and break space. With the workstations surrounded by breakout spaces and private meeting rooms, and footed by a large whiteboard wall and brainstorming area at the rear end of the fitout, employees are constantly provided with numerous collaboration opportunities. The smallest of the project, suite three utilises economical and efficient spatial planning to provide workpoint variety to tenants whilst maintaining comfort. Booth seating and a campfire lounge disperse collaboration opportunities throughout the office, in addition to private

UNIQUE LIBRARY ON LEVEL 17 During 2023, Sheldon were tasked with designing two suites across level 17 at 323 Castlereagh St. Archeology consultants, GML, signed onto suite 1 prior to its completion, so Sheldon were able to design to the requirements and branding of the tenant across the space. Largely collaborative, the workplace features a large open plan break and kitchen area which flows seamlessly into a library breakout space. A circular silhouette is accommodated through a custom curved multi-use seating, biophilia, and shelving unit created by Sheldon’s manufacturing division. The library was designed to house GML’s industry library collection and archaeological texts. Other spaces created for GML include several quiet rooms, a deep blue boardroom, and archaeology lab designed to accommodate GML’s processes. ELEGANT WORK POINTS ON LEVEL 17 For Suite 2 on Level 17, Sheldon committed to an elegant palette and layout, creating a space that was both spatially

optimised whilst not compromising on its aesthetic. Residential splashes, greenery, and curved built form culminate to create a space that feels warm and inviting, with various functionalities blended together to maximise spatial efficiency. A FUTURE FOCUSED DESIGN ON LEVEL 20 With a floor space of 1150sqm, LaSalle needed a fitout that was future-proofed and aligned with the requirements of a post-COVID working space. The client’s brief expressed a desire for design flexibility, profiling a target tenant in the tech industry, participating in video conferencing and frequent collaboration. The driving themes for the design were to create a unique and dynamic space with an emphasis on workplace happiness and well-being. The overall design of the suite caters to future ways of working through the adaptability and flexibility that the space offers. There is a variety of working environments, including collaborative

and quiet areas that cater to an end user as well as modern ways of working. A key distinction is how bold the overall design is, with contrasting black and white ceilings paired with deep green hues and textures to create a relaxing atmosphere. The material strategy of the design was to utilise in-house joinery to have consistent, quality finishing. Highlights include the visually exciting timber batten bulkhead in the main entry, complementing the dark laminate timber finish of the worksurfaces, and the textured dark green and black upholstery fabrics adding depth to the space. Level 20’s focus on employee wellness in the workplace contributes a new lens through which to view contemporary office design, in its sensory considerations. This includes the visual imagery of the design, the earthy hues and warm lighting enhancing tranquility, as well as the material strategy and biophilia that provides employees with comfort in both an auditory and tactile manner.

he construction and operation of commercial buildings uses a staggering amount of energy. Office fitouts also contribute to this impact on the environment, especially when offices are regularly replaced and refurbished. It is estimated that 20-50% of the proportion of whole of life carbon emissions in commercial buildings are caused by office fitouts. 115,000 tonnes of fitout waste and 35,000 tonnes of loose furniture are thrown away every year in Australia. The embodied energy costs within an office fitout are significant, which is why Sheldon is working to reduce the environmental impacts of its projects through circular economy initiatives. At level 5, 55 Clarence St, building owners Peakstone inherited a dated but high-quality fitout. The conventional approach would have been to strip this out and start from scratch, however Sheldon realised there was an opportunity to reuse some of the existing elements, and through considered design planning were able to transform the space into a stunning new office, whilst keeping costs and waste as low as possible. COST EFFECTIVE YET TRANSFORMATIONAL Sheldon was committed to implementing a material retention strategy, from design phase through to construction. The aim of this approach is to reinvigorate dated elements

of the space, by using existing components during a complete transformation that elevates spaces aesthetically and functionally. From flooring to services, and partitions to furniture, much was kept and re-used from the floor’s previous fitout, whilst transforming a space into a modern, multi-functional office. There are several cost benefits to incorporating reuse into a speculative fitout project, as seen at 55 Clarence St. With the right design and delivery process, office refurbishment costs can be reduced by over 21% by reusing over 20% of the existing material. With material costs rising approximately 6% since 2022, reuse is an effective way to keep project costs down whilst refurbishing a space. The result is a rejuvenated workplace that takes advantage of a natural palette (clay, white, and teal), as well as material (timber finishes and biophilia) to establish a beautifully modern aesthetic. Retained furniture and partitions are combined with this refreshed palette to create several functional work points and collaboration spaces, including an adaptable board room / training area with a movable wall.

THERE ARE MANY OPPORTUNITIES WE CAN TAKE IN MAKING OUR WORKPLACES MORE SUSTAINABLE THROUGH THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY’S ETHOS OF REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.

FURTHER WAYS TO REDUCE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT Other initiatives for the project included a robust waste recycling program with an 85% project wide waste recycling target, logistics coordination, prioritisation of modular work points, and greener modes of transport for deliveries. Additionally, by designing for future flexibility, disassembly and re-use, Level 5, 55 Clarence St makes steps towards being a more sustainable and future proof office fitout. There are many opportunities we can take in making our workplaces more sustainable through the circular economy’s ethos of reduce, reuse, recycle.

PLANNING FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE As global and Australian regulations tighten, an increasing expectation for businesses to report emissions, and an increased focus on refurbishing existing buildings, fitout choices have become an essential consideration. This is evident with the World Green Building Council’s net zero commitment to reduce overall embodied CO2 emissions from base build and fit out by at least 40% by 2030. Circular thinking is an industry-wide priority, and its benefit is a more sustainable future for the design and construction industries and everyone who uses workplaces.

aving completed numerous projects in this North Sydney building, Sheldon was referred by the building’s leasing agent to design and construct Ironfish’s new workplace. The primary objective was to relocate the property investment management firm to a new location and construct a space that reflected the sophisticated appearance of their former office. The project had a short time frame that needed to be met, with the client having a firm “Go Live” date. With phenomenal views over Sydney Harbour Bridge and the city, the design of this space needed to match the spectacular setting. Sheldon maximised the budget and created a high-end design feel through the clever use of paint colours and finishes. A combination of warm tan, terracotta and clay, and navy for the walls and furniture provide an atmosphere of depth and comfort to the space whilst aligning the office to the company’s brand identity. Sheldon’s in house manufacturing division maximised value for money through the tailored joinery units and workstations.

WORK POINT DIVERSITY Key highlights of this space include a multifunctional event space that can house up to 72 people for client presentations and functions. This bespoke multi-functional area can be used as both a casual seating area and event space. All furniture is easily movable, and the AC system is designed to be able to support the maximum capacity of the space. There is a “Quiet Corridor” featuring three vibrant quiet rooms each with a variety of feels and functions. These rooms include a private workspace with a high-end video call set up, as well as a small collaborative space for 1 on 1 meetings. The open kitchen/break area capitalised on the harbour views to provide a calming space where employees can relax and socialise.

SMART, SOPHISTICATED AND STYLISH To incorporate Ironfish’s branding into the design, orange and blue ‘adjacent’ finishes were selected throughout the space to reflect the company colours. Instead of directly applying orange highlights of the design through paint and upholstery, materials with orange hues such as the kitchen joinery, front of house furniture, and quiet room acoustic panelling allowed the Ironfish brand identity to be infused into the space while maintaining a sophisticated and timeless aesthetic. The result is a smart and stylish workplace that accommodates for Ironfish’s employee and client needs. Sheldon’s in house design and project management divisions collaborated seamlessly with the client, leading the project forward and ensuring all essential program milestones were met.

he boutique design direction of their new office strongly aligns with the brand positioning of Lawson Elliott, a leading recruitment agency that specialises in the finance and accounting sector. The materiality favours natural tones and textures, implemented through Sheldon manufactured timber joinery units, tiled surfaces, French Wash paint highlights and biophilia. The space is designed to capitalise on natural light and park views, which blends nicely through the translucent fluted meeting room vinyl strips and soft white curtains. These features ensure privacy for meeting rooms when needed, and add a subtle separation between spaces. The design takes inspiration from art deco themes, with elegant finishes, contrasting walls and ceilings/floors, plenty of symmetry, and sophisticated joinery pieces from Sheldon’s manufacturing division.

CLIENT FOCUSED SPACES The entrance to the space instantly wows, with a large lounge/reception area. This space, defined by its residential pallete and creative use of biophilia, is surrounded by meeting rooms of various sizes. This layout for the front of house area creates a seamless customer experience for Lawson Elliott’s clients moving between casual and formal meeting points. This space feels separate from the rest of the office, allowing the client’s experience to remain uninterrupted by internal operations.

PROVIDING EMPLOYEES WITH A HOLISTIC WORKING EXPERIENCE In addition to the extensive front of house area, employees are provided with several workpoints for both collaboration and focus work. Highlights include an open plan workstation area, a quiet focus booth, meeting rooms, and open collaboration points as well as bar seating for hotdesking in the kitchen/break area. A wide range of work points in a relatively small space allows employees to have choice over their working environment, allowing them to tailor it based on their work type.

EXCITING ENTERTAINMENT FACILITIES Another highlight of the space is the large entertaining/ break area, designed for employees to take a break, socialise, and host events. This space boasts an impressive kitchen with a large island seating unit designed and created by Sheldon’s manufacturing division. Providing additional entertainment to employees are the pool table and golf simulator in this space. In particular, the golf simulator provides a unique activity that the team can bond over and compete with to foster culture and attendance in the office. In addition to provisions in the break room such as the golf simulator and pool table, Lawson Elliott’s new office has its very own gym room. Employees are able to use the gym before and after work, or even to have a quick workout during their lunch break.

ith open-plan offices being the norm rather than the exception these days, it has become even more pressing to provide quiet zones where staff can focus on important tasks, host meetings and answer private phone calls. Enter Kettal’s Kall work booths, designed as the perfect move for escaping from the veritable litany of distractions faced by employees: constant movement, conversational cacophony and commotion. A showcase of adaptability, Kall is an amalgamation of sound-proofing, seamless connectivity, and snug interior, design elements that foster workplace productivity and performance. Crafted to be minimalist with maximum functionality, the Kall is adroitly conceived to give the illusion the booth is recessed into a wall, further enhancing its subtle elegance. Safety and security finds form in the discreet addition of sidewalls, which not only impart structural support and stability, but also block off documents and device screens from prying eyes, particularly during confidential conversations. Mathias Seiler took matters into his own hands with the Udina Work range, a series of tables characterised by its unique sculptural base and super elliptical tabletop. The Udina Work Design by Girsberger is designed for important round-the-table conversations. The precise joint line, defining its form, splits the base into two distinct parts. Notably, the concrete base not only serves an aesthetic purpose, but also ensures remarkable stability, relying on its substantial weight. This structural integrity enables the table to accommodate overhanging tabletops of 280cm. Boasting exceptional versatility, this table can seamlessly integrate into different design themes —whether it be a minimalist space, embracing brutalism or capturing the essence of industrial style.
