down, but just like that, "Olowogbogboro" opened someone else's eyes to find my passport in the same room. I did benefit from the Hallelujah Challenge and of course, I found my way to the Hallelujah Festival ground at the Glitz event center in Lekki. Meeting Nathaniel Bassey finally for a chat was such a herculean task because of his busy schedules. We finally chatted and had a photoshoot with him and his amiable wife, Sarah. The Basseys are such a sweet and awesome Christian couple. There's no point spilling the bean- I enjoin you, ju read about this divine partnership yourself. We thought it would be it would be a huge blessing to appreciate the spiritual leaders winning souls for God. That your name is neither mentioned nor your photo published does not mean you are not a spiritual leader we hold in high esteem. But for want of space, we would publish the names of everybody that is involved in the beautiful works of God through Christianity. In this edition, on our event segment, we have lovely coverages of the Accelerate Conference put together by the Elevation Church, the Hallelujah Festival and Ebony Live Movie and Film Festival.

Before my trip to Rwanda, Seyi, a team member of MediaRoomHub and Pelumi, her best friend who is a contributor on our platform had mentioned the Hallelujah Challenge t o m e . I know, I love and enjoy listening to Nathaniel B a s s e y 's " Wo n d e r f u l Wonder" and a lot of other Christian songs from pastor Wale Adenuga, Sinach, Frank Edwards, Steve Crown, Glowreeyah Braimah among riveting others. But while in Rwanda, all alone in my hotel room, with no form of distraction I participated in the challenge. A few days after I got back to Nigeria, I was supposed to return my passport to the American Embassy to renew my visa, but I could not find it. I

was worried, angry and very sad. The situation practically numbed me. I didn't know what to do, but kept mumbling in my spirit- 'God show that you are God in this situation, just use your mighty hand to locate this passport'. A few nights later, I dreamt that I was asking God, "Olowogbogboro, where is my passport?" I asked God just twice and in that same dream, I found my passport and started jubilating only to wake up to realise it was a dream.

I want to specially thank the management and staff of The George hotel. The photoshoot with the Basseys was held there and we are glad we made that decision. The staffs were quick to be of help to us while shooting and sincerely appreciate this. I hope this edition blesses you richly and spiritually as you enjoy every story we bring your way. May the Alpha- (before Him was none) and Omega (after whom shall none exist) bless you on all fronts. Shalom!

In the morning I told Seyi about my dream when she visited. She said, "Aunty claim it", I was sad, but I claimed it anyway. Two days later, my immediate younger sister called me and said she found my international passport behind my wardobe. Note that this was the same bedroom that had been combed upside

NATHANIEL

BASSEYONE OF GOD'S LATTER DAYS GENERAL Cover Interview -by Azuka Ogujiuba

athaniel Bassey, a Christian, gospel music minister (as he would call himself), youth pastor, husband and father is a name largely celebrated in Nigeria and around the world at the moment. This God's General of the latter days recently led a social media revolution for the propagation of the gospel through praise and worship. Through this revival, thousands of testimonies abound on the lips of many. But despite the glossy impacts, a few still found some dirts to hurl. In this interview with MediaRoomHub, Pastor Nathaniel Bassey talks about his encounter with God, the criticisms he received during the 'Hallelujah Challenge' and his passion for the younger generation. It is obviously a move of God, how did you get the revelation?

We've been talking and praying about revival for years now but sometime this year, I was having lunch in London with a dear pastor friend, Pastor Banjo. He spoke to me about going to Israel and I obviously agreed to go to Isreal. We ended up going to Isreal and got to spend some time with other friends and people who had come for pilgrimage. We had worship in the morning and evening and in the midst of all of that we had different prophesies and we sensed that 2017 was a very special year. It was a jubilee year in Jerusalem, it was a jubilee year in Lagos, Pastor Adenuga was 50 years and we just sensed that God was going to move and it was a new season. So when I came back, I just had this leading to pray for one month, we called it the 'Tongue Challenge'. It was essentially just praying in the spirit for one hour and immediately that was over, I had another instruction from the Lord to praise him in June, based on Acts 16: 25

and 26. This was when Paul and Silas praised in the midnight hour, that kind of praise was called 'Hallelujah'. There are different kinds of praise, Hallelujah is one of them and it is considered the highest praise. It means - to praise God with reckless abandon; to be glamourously foolish before God; to celebrate God and to boast in God. So we did all of that and that in a nutshell is a revelation of the story behind Hallelujah. It was more or less a matter for the virtual spacet, would you rather stage a real one where people can converge in a natural space? I say to people everytime that I like to do things that I'm led by God to do. The Hallelujah Challenge succeeded because it was a God's idea, it was never my idea. Questions have been asked; are we going to sustain it? Are we going to continue? And I just say to people, let's go one step at a time. But I really sense that the Hallelujah Challenge is a trigger for something greater and we may not have seen the last of it. I've been having some ideas about having Hallelujah Festivals around the world in different continents and campuses. So it seems to be the case that we would see more of it in time to come. We would continue on Instagram and Facebook. A lot of people are really excited to see their favorite celebrities like Don Jazzy, Chioma Apkota, Rita Dominic, Ini Edo, Iceprince, Toke Makinwa, etc lift up their hands to Jesus Christ in worship, how does it feel to see these media influencers worship God through this platform? The sight is beautiful. Kings and Kingdoms, Prince and

Princesses would come to bow before the Lord Jesus. The word says 'every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord'. It was such a pleasant sight seeing these great people, people who had shaped culture, people who had influenced people, also bowing night after night and just lifting the name of Jesus. This shows the authenticity of who this God is, this God is big, he's huge, he's amazing. Every other celebrity, every king, every queen, every prince, every princess have come to acknowledge that He's indeed the 'King of kings' and I have a strong and deep feeling that we would still see more. We will see presidents, we will see governors, we will see senators, we will see billionaires coming to proclaim the name of Jesus. Before you started this project, did you imagine that an average of 50,000 people everyday from all over the world would be worshiping? To be honest, when I started I had no ambition to break record or to gather this massive crowd. Mind you, the 50 to 70 thousand people is just the number of devices, I've heard and also seen that churches, schools, campuses, and hospitals connected and it's humbling to see such effect, something that started in my room. We had a 'Tongue Challenge' which essentially was praying for one hour, quite a number of people joined but it was not on this scale. So seeing it just spread day by day from 800 to 2000 to 4000 to 7000 to 13000 to 20000, 31000 to 50000 was amazing. At some point we had 79000 and that was Instagram alone. I never imagined it, I just did it first for myself and then my PG | 7 | JULY 2017

followers who cared to really praise God with me. To see that God just breath on it and took it to great levels was really humbling. I noticed that as the challenge went on, testimonies were just pouring in, how do you feel about the fact that people were testifying. It was just an innocent idea. We were just going to praise God and enjoy him and see what he would do. But from the get go we started having people send in testimonies and I praise God this happened. Talking about God's deed, which essentially is what praise is, praise is declaring his works, his greatness, talking about what he has done. So we decided we were going to share the testimonies and we kept seeing them pouring, the more we shared them, the more people connected to them. I shared them on my page but at some point I told people to go to the blogs themselves. I'm sure we are going to talk about critics and all of that stuff because people have said they are not real, that why are we talking about them, that we are boasting. I think the truth is, we can't praise God the way we did for a month, at midnight, which is sacrificing your sleep, and he won't be moved to come into your situation. As we speak, we keep having the aftermath, people are sharing post Hallelujah Challenge testimonies. So I think it's the nature of God, you can't serve him in vain, it's the natural consequence of serving God in a hallelujah style. Talking about the criticism that trailed the 'Hallelujah Challenge' there's a particular one that was from Daddy Freeze. He condemned the 'Hallelujah Challenge' and said it was a ruse to promote your song 'Olowogbogboro' and to be popular, how do you feel about this? I always say to people, before you respond to criticism, you look at the character of who is criticising. Daddy Freeze is a great on air personality, in his sphere he's been doing well, but

PG | 8 | JULY 2017

when it comes to spiritual matters, I don't think he deserves alot of my time to answer. Jesus faced a lot of these criticism and that's my master. Jesus who performed genuine miracles was accused of using the power of the devil 'Beelzebub', so how much more , and it says, 'the servant was not greater than the master' so if Jesus was condemned, of course, I would be. But the truth of the matter is criticism is not bad, the bible says, 'if the prince of this world had known, they won't have crucified the King of glory'. I think as soon as the criticism came, the 'Hallelujah Challenge' just exploded. Did you also read the one written by Joy Isi Bewaji? Because I was tagged alot, I just looked through, but those things are not important, any great person, any great idea faced criticism. The president of Nigeria, Donald Trump, the founders of Apple and Microsoft are facing criticism. You'd face some positive and negative criticism and over time, I've learnt to look at the character of the people criticizing. We've had some criticism within the faith, people saying 'what's this', 'this is showoff'. There's a revival called 'Azusa Street Revival' in the early 1900s where certain people prayed and the Holy Ghost visited them, they were seen as weird people, mad people, people who were possessed. But you and I, once we are born again and filled in the spirit are a fruit of that. What we call 'Pentecostal Christianity' is an overflow of 'Azusa Street'. Normally, when there's a new move of God, like the apostles in Acts 2, people came and said these men are drunk, these are crazy people. And I understand, why would a slim guy like me with a trumpet and shakers praise God and draw thousands of people. I'm sure they are saying 'who is this dry looking guy to gather all the

celebrities'. I've learnt over time that your response to criticism is even what matters so I couldn't be bothered about a lot of them. When God speaks to me and I'm sure it's God (laughs), I just follow. It's not important, they actually helped our ministry and I say thank you to all of them. At what point in your life did you encounter God, was there any particular incident that happened in your life that made you realize that it's God or nothing. Picking from the other question when people say I did this to be popular, the truth of the matter is, before now God had given us a music ministry that has gone around the world. By God's grace, our songs are sung around the world and so I'm not sure that I wanted to be more popular than I was before. Popularity is really not my thing, I don't seek fame, I seek God's kingdom and if he decides to make you famous, so is it. So going back to your question, we've been in music ministry for some time, I started music over 25 years ago. I had an ambition like every other musician to tour the world. I had always wanted to be a great jazz trumpet player. I grew up listening to a lot of instrumental music, high life music, Rex Lawson, lots of jazz music, lots of Bebop music, standards, Luis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and all those guys. I had that ambition to be a super jazz musician doing afrocentric, jazz, highlife and just making a name for myself. I was in church as well but I wasn't really in Christ, you can be in church, go to church, sing the songs, say the words but you are never really in Christ. Somewhere along the line I had this encounter with God. I had a pastor, Pastor Eskor who was such tremendous influence in my

life and I had an elder sister who got born again first and prayed for me. She said to me that God told her to pray for me for over a year. According to her, God has said he was going to use me so she had to spend time with her friends to pray for me, her name is Mercy Bassey. All of this time I wasn't born again, I was just a gifted musician playing in Jazz bands, in clubs, just strictly jazz. I was driven purely by my music, still played in church but never really have an encounter. Then I had this encounter with God whilst at the City of David. I got born again in TREM but I wasn't really really committed, it was just about music. But the day I had an encounter with God at City of David, it seized to be about music. God just captured my heart and it became all about knowing God.

In respect to what you said about men being passionate about their wives, what do think of men who abuse their wives?

Honestly, I think everything rises and falls on the fear of God. We need to see a society where men have such love and fear for God. I'm big on men having character. I say to alot of my young girls in church - I pastor as well in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, The Oasis - that there are two levels I look out for in men; they are the constants and the variables. Where he works, his height and how he dresses are variables. A person can be taught how to dress well, somebody can hit it big overnight but there's something called constants, character, the fruit of the spirit. When you come to say to me that you met this guy, I'm interested that he's born again, that he's tongue talking, but beyond T h e m u s i c b e c a m e a n speaking in tongues, what's his instrument rather than a goal, it character? Does he have self became a platform to show forth control? Is he easily angry? the love of God. It was at that point that my life turned around, I When somebody says to me, 'well began to seek God, I began to pastor he didn't know, he just pray, I began to read the word. I mistakenly slapped me', I'm like, chased God so radically that the 'that is a red flag because if he same sister who prayed for me marries you, he will punch you.' So started thinking that I'd lost my I'm big on character and I think that mind, she said, 'Nath you are if we had a lot of character based taking this too far'. The rest is teachings, emphasize character in history. I think he's given me a church, bearing the fruit of the spirit p a s s i o n t o g o a l l o u t f o r as opposed to breakthroughs; something I believe in. I believe prosperity, we will raise men that in the Lord, I believe in being the fear God, loves God and a man that best in all I do, I believe in good f e a r s a n d l o v e s G o d w i l l marriages, I'm passionate about automatically love his wife. By the my wife and my marriage. I'm grace of God my wife rarely asks passionate about young people me about my location because a c h i e v i n g t h e i r a i m s , I ' m over time God has helped us to passionate about young people build trust, trust is built deliberately. marrying well and having healthy When a man says, 'why don't you m a r r i a g e s , m e n b e i n g trust me', it's because she can't responsible, men loving their trust you. If you acted the part, trust w i v e s . T h o s e a r e v a r i o u s comes immediately. So I think we passions that I have, and I find need to emphasis character in our out that whenever I have a christian messages and in our passion for stuff I just go all out, I sermons. We need to emphasis give my whole being, one e x c e l l e n c e a n d s t r e n g t h o f character in our men. I always put hundred and one percent. the responsibility on men because PG | 11 | JULY 2017

they are the heads and it's natural for them to take responsibility. There are some instances where we are told that the women pushed the men to the wall and the men hit them. In such situations, what do you think a man should do when it gets to that extent where the wife makes him so angry that he might want to hit her? I will always hold the men responsible because they are the leaders and it's just natural that the leader takes responsibility, women also have a huge part to play. I tell people that before they get married, there are obviously signs, there are obviously red flags. I mentor alot of young people; teenagers, young adults and I say to them, 'don't be too emotional when it comes to courtship, dating and all of that'. Love is not blind, open your eyes. There are obviously some things you saw but chose to ignore. I tell people that they should spend time praying in the spirit. When you are in love, don't pray in your understanding. Spend time praying in the spirit, take some time to fast. What happens when we pray is revelations. So it's not a questions of the person pretended, there's a thing about prayer that makes people show themselves. If you are praying and you are sincere, God will expose things, but then it's up to you to decide. Going back to domestic violence, a man raising his hands to beat you, there must have been a sign. A few days ago, a lady sent me a chat on Instagram. She had an argument with her boyfriend, someone she was supposed to marry. Just reading the chat from the guy, I just saw that this was an accident waiting to happen. He has not married you yet, he's commanding you, saying 'if you go to this place, don't call me'. PG | 14 | JULY 2017

He's calling her names but the girl is obviously head over heels in love. Then she says to me, 'what do you think?' Normally I tell pastors, 'if you are wise, don't be the one to give the word'. I'm a wise pastor so I won't tell you 'thus saith the Lord, marry him'. I can only create the atmosphere for you to come to that knowledge yourself. Because at the end of the day your pastor won't live there, your mum won't live there, it's your decision. So in that instance I saw a guy so abusive in just a chat, he was unbelievable, he was talking down at her, calling her names and she's hell bent on marrying this guy. And you can see from there that that's an accident waiting to happen. The same thing happens with the guy, coming back to our question. When you pray and seek God, God exposes things. I tell people that love then becomes a choice, love is not really a feeling. Love is a decision, the bible says 'and God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son', and he did that while we were yet sinners. God knew we were sinners but still gave his son. So I tell people that love is not all about feelings, maybe a little part of feelings is in it but at the end of the day, love is a decision. I've chosen to marry this guy, I've seen the flaws, I've seen the strength, I've done a SWOT analysis, I've seen the lady, she can cook, she cannot cook, she talks too much and I have what it takes to cope with that. Now when you choose to marry people regardless of their weaknesses, you must be ready to cope with it so there's no question of she's acting away, you knew all of that. It begins from the foundation level. When you get into marriage, like Paul the grace of God must be sufficient for you. You must

develop the character, and the strength to cope with that. My wife is an introvert, she doesn't talk so much. I'm probably the more talkative person. I saw that from when we were courting so it shouldn't be a surprise. I must then find ways of understanding, of adapting to how she is, knowing that that's her person. At t h e e n d o f t h e d a y, b o t h personalities, if we'll managed, complement. So I think people should do a lot of homework and not be illusioned. Don't think that things will sort themselves out. N o r m a l l y, f r o m s t a t i s t i c s , marriage amplifies whatever you saw in courtship. I think people should do alot of homework in courtship or whilst dating. Also when you make your decision, you must be ready to adapt to it or ask for grace to cope with whatever you find. What are the challenges you faced during the 'Hallelujah Challenge' and also the challenges you've faced as a pastor? At the risk of sounding cliché, the truth of the matter is over the years, I've learnt to rest in God. There are different challenges, that of ministry, of travelling, of combining ministry, wife and family and being a father. It's challenging, but I somehow find God's grace at work helping to balance thing. In all, God has taught me to rest on his grace somehow. I don't know how to explain it, I would be lying, I would be cooking out a principle if I could. God's grace just helps us to cope with various challenges of life. Also because I've learnt to not put myself under pressure, I live a simple life. I don't live a celebrity life, I'm not under pressure to buy things I can't afford or to go to places I can't afford. I'm a very plain person, I've always wanted to be authentic, what you see is what you get. So that in itself takes

away pressure. A lot of what we call challenges are self inflicted, we work ourselves into it. I've just learnt to live a simple life, and the grace of God helps us. People say you are very humble, and some hope that you don't become an arrogant person because of the fame that the 'Hallelujah Challenge' has brought you, what do you have to say to this? Before now, I had the privilege of travelling the world, I had the privilege of having some A-list American gospel artistes singing our song. I've always had some sort of media attention and God has kept me. I think one of my strength is the ability to just be myself , I'm very big on that, I teach on that. It's a core element of being a true worshipper; authenticity. Yes, people will call your name, they will take selfies, but I'm a realist. Someone who inspires me alot is pastor E.A Adeboye, when a man of that calibre says, 'you know what, I'm just starting', with the millions of lives he's affected. The thousands of churches around the world, the miracles, the projects, and he says to us that he has not started. What do I say because I have one or two songs or done Hallelujah Challenge. I'm very real with myself, I'm my number one critic, I critique myself, I speak to myself and I believe that as long as I spend time with God and allow his word renew my mind, he'll keep me humble. I posted a few days ago that humility in my definition simply means staying under grace. A cup of water that would be full must stay PG | 20 | JULY 2017

underneath the flask so there's no way you can fill a cup if it's over the flask. To be great you have to stay under and what makes us great is the grace of God. God says he gives grace to the humble, so as long as I remain humble, God will continually pour his grace. And with prayers from people like you, our fans, our friends, God will help us. What do you feel about Christians not being given endorsements like circular artistes? It's not a big deal, to be a gospel artiste is not an invitation to live a celebrity lifestyle, it's not about you. I say everytime that gospel music is different from circular music, the rules are diametrically opposed to each other. In the circular music industry, it's about the artist, it's about image, it's about packaging, your fans, your Instagram followers, it's about you. But in the gospel music industry or ministry as I choose to call it, it's not about you, it's about Jesus. I wrote a song a few months ago; 'take the stage Lord, have your way, I'm just a vessel, I'm nothing more, when you are done, please take the glory, I'm satisfied just to see you glorified'. Personally, I've never lived my life just to be endorsed, as long as Jesus is glorified. The truth of the matter is some Gospel artistes have been endorsed, I've been approached a couple of times but everytime I have terms that would contradict what I stand for, the values I uphold, then I turn it down. It shouldn't be an issue, I don't think it's out of place that we are not endorsed. God endorses you or you endorse God, whichever way. How easy was it for you to bring other Gospel artistes

that have participated during the challenge? There was a particular time Steve Crown tweeted, 'We are going live today again with my brother and pastor Nathaniel Bassey for the Hallelujah Challenge'. Well that's the beauty of the unity of faith and of the spirit. One of the things the Hallelujah Challenge highlighted was unity of the faith. There was no question of 'what church are you from'. We had Catholics, Anglicans, Pentecostals, Methodists, even Muslims joined, and that the beauty of a platform like the 'Hallelujah Challenge'. There was no denominationalism and we had other A-list Gospel artistes participate. We didn't see it as Nathaniel Bassey's project, we saw it as a kingdom project and I believe that that's what God wants us to have more, where his children are one, where there's no denominational divide. There was no ' it's not my thing so I will not be part of it'. I hope and pray that we see more of those alliances and synergy, it would only advance the kingdom of God. We noticed that you enjoy 'Woli Agba' comedy, is he your favorite at the moment? Yes I have a little comic part of me, I like good humour, healthy h u m o u r. I ' v e a l w a y s l i k e d comedy, I was a big Nkem Owoh and Okey Bakassi fan for years. As long as the jokes don't defile, as long as they uplift and make you happy. Lately I've just enjoyed the duo of Woli Agba and Dele, gifted and talented young guys blessing us. Obviously you are a very busy man, how do you spend your me-time and relax? When you are not travelling and playing music, how do you relax?

I like soccer a lot, I'm a huge Barcelona fan. I used to play when I was in Unilag studying Urban and Regional Planning. In fact, if it wasn't music, it was going to be soccer. It was a prayer point for my mum so I would stop watching soccer, I used to cry watching soccer. I'm very big on soccer, I follow the premiership but I'm not a fanatic, when I'm free I watch. But I'm a huge Lionel Messi fan. So I watch soccer, watch some good comedy and spend time with my wife, children and friends. If you were asked to go for a luxury weekend, what are the five things you will take along with you? First I would take my Bible, then my trumpet, my family, my iPad and maybe my phone. How did you meet your wife? That's a long story, I went to minister on Eket, and she was a protocol attaché to the man I went to minister with. It was a RCCG programme in at the City of David in Eket. Someone had just broken my heart, this was in 2008 and at that point, the only song I was singing was 'I am married to Jesus, sisters leave me alone'. I think I dated this lady for about four years and that whole time I was the best thing after sliced bread . People were even thinking ' how would she cope, hope Nath is going to marry her', but the reversed was the case. She just called me one time, she was about to fly and she said, 'hey, bro, this thing is over' and I was like, 'this thing!' Anyway I went through pain but it was so good like David that I went through that. How you go through a trial determines your next level, if you go through a heart break getting lost in God and loving him more, you would

PG | 22 | JULY 2017

only grow. So God healed me of all of that pain, I loved him more and I was growing because I gave myself to loving God more. But in fairness I was not looking for a wife that whole year, I couldn't be bothered. In fact, when we got to that church in Eket, my wife's pastor said to me, 'Nath, when are you going to get married? This ministry you are doing is sensitive o, you are travelLing up and down, you need a wife o.' I said to him, ' sir, God would do it in his time.' I wasn't interested, I didn't even care, I didn't even want to hear anything 'wife'. But I went back and there was this girl that I didn't even talk to. She kept coming to my heart while I was praying and then I called the pastor I travelled with and said 'what do you think about this girl that we saw'. The pastor said, ' the only reason why I'm taking this seriously is because yesterday he told his sister that if he had his way, he would make sure I meet this girl, I just told him about'. I spoke to her pastor about it and all this while I hadn't spoken to her. I said, 'who is this girl in your church?' He told me about her and said she was a student and because I met the other lady that broke my heart as a student, I said I wasn't interested. The lady that broke my heart was a student that later worked in Mobil and so when the pastor told me she was also doing her IT in Mobil, I said I was not interested. It was just God, wanting me to go through the same path. Anyways, the pastor sent for her and mind you both of us had not spoken all this while. Her pastor just sent for her and decided to bounce the idea off her. He called her to his house and asked, ' do you know why you

are here?. She said, 'yes'. He asked, 'why?' She said, ' I think you are calling me because of Nathaniel Bassey'. He asked her if I had called her and she said, 'no'. He then asked her why she thought it was about me and she said she saw a flash and she thinks, 'he's my husband'. Anyways, so many details, our marriage is supernatural, it is like a bible story. I am going to have an Instagram 'how I met my wife session' for you guys so you'll learn. It would be like a hour to one hour thirty minutes session on how I met my wife so people can learn as well.

The lady that broke my heart was a student that later worked in Mobil and so when the pastor told me she was also doing her IT in Mobil, I said I was not interested.

SARAH BASSEYA woman of very few words, that's what we would call Sarah Bassey. She's the beautiful woman that captured the heart of Pastor Nathaniel Bassey. Reading their story, you would agree that theirs indeed was match-made in heaven. A glimpse into how supportive she is of her husband's ministry is an alluring testament of a woman who stands strongly for what she believes in. She talks to Mediaroomhub about her marriage and family.

ould you briey intr oduc e yourself? My name is Sarah B a s s e y, I ' m a graduate of Computer Science from the University of Uyo. I am from a family of seven; my parents and four siblings. I'm from AkwaIbom. I work with my husband, by helping with planning and getting him ready for the ministry. What were you doing before you got married to your husband? I was pretty much serving in church, that's how we met. He came to my church to minister and I was in the protocol team that welcomed him and got him ready. Your husband mentioned and commended you during the Hallelujah Festival for being very handy around the house, was this something you did even before you got married? Yes, I didn't just start being handy now, my dad is very handy too so I guess I learnt it from him. My dad used to call me his apprentice. As an introvert and seeing that you are very close to your husband, how do you cope when he's not around? The kids keep me very busy and then the Holy Spirit helps me too. Would you describe your PG | 30 | JULY 2017

husband as a romantic person? What's the most romantic gift or the best valentines gift he's given you?

will get used to it by God's grace. What is your opinion about premarital sex?

Yes he is romantic but he doesn't celebrate Valentine's Day. He says we should love every day and it shouldn't only be on Valentine's Day. There are so many gifts he's given me so I can't really pick out one.

I think my husband posted something about that weeks ago, it's absolutely a no-no situation for me. I would tell the young ladies to say no to premarital sex. There is nothing about loving you more after sleeping with you. Those Has being married to your are just lies that guys get to husband led you closer to tell ladies now and there's God? no truth to that, if he loves you, he loves you. Yes it has, he has led so many others to God and he D i d y o u p r a c t i c e has really helped me too premarital sex with your personally. I can gladly say husband? that I'm not where I was spiritually when I met him. No no no we didn't practice premarital sex. If you were not working for your husband, was there Have you ever written a something else you would song with your husband or have wanted to do? inspired one he sang? If I had my way, I would still do what I'm doing now because there's some joy I get working with him. So I would do this over and over again. Same as I would love being Mrs Bassey over and over again. Since the end of the 'Hallelujah Challenge', I'm sure your husband has been getting lots of calls, are there changes in terms of privacy that you wish you could avoid since the challenge? Well those are things one would have to deal with. We

For now I haven't but I hope to someday. So when you are not busy, how do you spend your free time? Well we leave our house and come to an hotel like we are now. I try to make my husband stay away from his phone and iPad so he gets to rest as well and just having a lone time with the family. INTERVIEW CONCIERGE

spiritually, in this time and age of so much distraction?

-by Oluwaseyi Akindunbi

Kingsley Innocent

Kingsley Innocent Owoicho-Oche popularly known as Kaestrings is gradually becoming an household name as his song 'Ga Shi Nan' filled the lips of many during the just concluded 'Hallelujah Challenge' put together by Nathaniel Bassey. His is a story of grace and supernatural favour. The student of Fine Arts from Ahmadu Bello University tells Mediaroomhub about how he has been able to grow and stay focused spiritually.

I stay focused by building around me friends with the same goals and vision as me and friends who are lovers of God. It has been said that Christians in the northern part of the country do not have it easy, what is your experience being a Christian in the northern part of the country? It has been beautiful. Not every place in the North suffers persecutions and fortunately we are in a place where persecution is less. Which personality in the bible can you relate with the most? David. Asides from singing, what do you love to do? Painting, drawing and crafts making. Are you into music full time or is it just something you plan to do part time? I plan to go into music full time as soon as I am done with my first degree by Gods grace and Gods will. Asides from the fact that the Hallelujah Challenge brought you so much recognition, what other experience from the challenge would stay with you for a long while? Lessons I learnt from the life of pastor Nathaniel Bassey, Mairo Ese, Mam Victoria Orenze and pastor Chingtok Ishaku. Which religious personality do you look up to? Apostle Joshua Selman of Eternity Network International

Tell us a little about yourself. My name is Kingsley Innocent Owoicho-Oche, known as Kaestrings, born into the family of Rev and Pastor Mrs. Innocent Egwa, I have seven awesome siblings. I am a student of the Department of Fine Arts in Ahmadu Bello University and I also work at Eternity Network International (Koinonia E.N.I). You were very much involved in the just concluded Hallelujah PG | 38 | JULY 2017

Challenge because of your song 'Ga Shi Nan', how was that experience for you? The experience was simply a blessing, it was life transforming and also the most beautiful thing that has happened to me so far in life. When did you write 'Ga Shi Nan', and what inspired you to write it? I wrote the song August last year

and what inspired me asides the Holy Spirit was a video clip I watched of Jeremiah Gyang singing and playing his song 'Dan ga ta' live on youtube. What do you admire the most about Nathaniel Bassey? His consistency in birthing songs for the times and seasons. As a young Christian man, how do you stay focused

If you could take away something from your life, what would it be? School. But if I had the chance of studying music, it would have been much better. What do you do to unwind and relax? Play my guitar and be around my great friends. If you could say a few words to young Christians out there, what will it be? All I would say is: love God more and believe his word, for every principle laid in God's word is true and it works. Obey his word even when it feels like its foolishness, for the thoughts of God is way different from the thoughts of man. PG | 39 | JULY 2017

MARIO ESE

-by Oluwaseyi Akindunbi

When you see Mairo Ese, you see a man who is satisfied in God. His songs, which has blessed thousands, are still blessing thousands and are sung in various worship gatherings. In this interview, he talks about his beautiful relationship with his fiancée Ayo Thompson and his christian values. rief introduction of yourself? My name is Mario Ese and I am a gospel music minister by the grace of God. I studied Economics education in the University of Lagos. While growing up, was it music for you from the get-go or was it just something you delved into along the way? Well, growing up I used to think I sing fairly well so I was just going to be in the choir, finish my education, get a good job and still be a member of the choir, but I didn't think I was going to be in the music ministry like this. It only became clearer after I finished my NYSC. When did you start your music ministry? I gave my life to Christ in late 1997, got into the choir in 1998 and I've been in the choir since then. I didn't think I was going to go into full time ministry until 2008/2009 when I was done with my NYSC and decided to work with my church, This Present House, as a worship leader. I gave my life to Christ at a very young age but before then I never really lived a 'bad' life. I wasn't much of a drinker or a smoker before then. Was there any particular reason why the 'Hallelujah Challenge' was dear to you, seeing that you were largely involved in it? Well Nathaniel is a brother and the Hallelujah Challenge was not just a revival, it was a God-move, I didn't need anybody to tell me that it was a

PG | 40 | JULY 2017

God-move. When Nathaniel started the 'Tongue Challenge', we partook in it and then the 'Hallelujah Challenge' came on, it was a good time to encourage people to join in. I think it was easier to be a part of it because I knew it was a Godmove. You popped the big question some few months ago and congratulations are in order. Can you share on how you met your soon-to-be bride Ayo Thompson? Well I'd been searching, trying to find a partner, a helper and this year God did it his own way. I saw her picture on a friend's Instagram page, slide into her DM, and sent her a message. We went out on a few dates, tried to know each other and while we were on that, I was praying and trusting God for a sign. I wanted to know who she really was, on her social media page she was very vocal about Jesus so I wanted to be sure that it was real and not just a social media thing. So I was praying, checking in my spirit and had my friends like Nathaniel pray with me about it too. Later God started to show me signs, I remember a time Nathaniel told me not to ask God for a particular sign but to ask God for his own sign. After this, we started getting confirmation at different stages and that's how I knew she was the one. It seemed very strange but when God does something that's how it is. I get to a place and somebody is prophesying about how our wedding day would be, something that only Ayo and I have discussed. That's just one of the many confirmations that we got. It took Ayo a bit of time to get her

confirmation though all her family were in on it but she was still waiting on God for a word. She got it, I proposed, she said yes and we thank God for the journey that has begun. As a Christian, how far would you term too far in a Christian relationship? It's not actually a question of 'for me', it's what the bible says. For us as Christians, its not about how we feel or what we think is right, it's what the bible says. The bible says our body is the temple of the holy spirit and as a result of this we shouldn't get entangled in things of the flesh. Kissing or whatever else should only be done when one is married. Ayo and I do every thing possibly by God's grace to make sure we are not alone. We make sure that our friends or her friends especially were always around anytime we need to be alone. The bible says we should flee from all appearance of evil, there's nothing like a super man, nobody is a superman or a superwoman. When emotions are involved, you will want to tend to hold each other and then before you know it... But when you put deliberate measures by God's grace and you are conscious about it, things go well. The fact is even with all the deliberate effort, it takes the grace of God. So one has to make sure that one flees from every 'appearance' of evil and not just the evil itself. The truth is this things soil relationships and marriages and if you ask people that are married, for

those that are genuine, they will tell you that the minute they started getting physical, it took alot from them. If you are going to get married, its just best to ask God for the grace to stay afar in that sense, why steal what you can have for free in a short while. So for me ' how far is too far' means that you have to stay afar from each other in that regard. So if you would talk to a set of teenagers or youths, would you tell them to abstain completely Totally, if not, you would only destroy yourself. Were there things you found it difficult letting go off when you gave your life to Christ? When I gave my life to Christ, I was in secondary school and at the time I used to move with guys who would smoke, drink and womanize. I and another friend were the only ones that didn't use to drink among our friends because it was just never my thing. However, I knew that I had to change my group of friends when I gave my life to Christ, so I changed my company and started rolling with the 'born agains' in class. So obviously one is going have to leave some certain things as a Christian. One would need to start walking in God's plan and alignment because there are certain things in the kingdom that's not allowed.

GLOWREEYAH BRAIMAH

-by Oluwaseyi Akindunbi

Glowreeyah Braimah is one young lady that's vocal about Jesus and she's unapologetic about this. The lawyer turned gospel artiste through her music has preached the good news of salvation to all. With an infectious smile and great sense of humor, Glowreeyah has ridden high on our list of favorite people. Apt and dedicated, this beautiful songstress shares a lot of insightful information that would inspire many.

Share that one encounter you had with God that changed your life? Every singular moment in time; breathing this air, walking this walk and being alive deserves to be counted as a spectacular one. There have been too many moments where I have known that God revealed himself powerfully and tangibly. Whether it was when I was in a car that somersaulted thrice and it landed on its roof and I came out without a scratch; or moments when complete strangers (whom I believe were angels on assignment to me) were used by God to get me out of dire situations etc. The ultimate will still remain the moment I said ‘YES’ to Jesus in my heart. This singular encounter has been the singular reason for every other reason that might ever be. His life eternal has truly changed my life forever.

You studied Law in the University, how did you make the switch from Law as a career to Music as a career? Being a Lawyer and working in a few great jobs in the corporate sector was truly a blessed experience but the gifts and callings of God are truly without repentance. Time and chance happened and I believe that my steps were ordered to where I am now. Beyond just having a career, I believe that my music ministry is fundamentally tied to the gracious testimony of my life and my divine purpose with a kingdom mandate of delivering a clear message of restoration and hope. I am humbled and glad that I can also play my small part by contributing primarily to the worship-culture of Nigeria and by extension, to the world at large.

moderate in fashion. How much is too much? Well, thank you for the acknowledgment. My early influence was my late Mother who was quite fashionable in her own way. I learnt from her that you can take very little and do so much with it. How you creatively put the pieces of it all together is what style is all about. Ultimately, God was the first fashion-designer. The book of Genesis reveals how He made garments of skin for Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. I believe that He has given us free will to create and beautify our external bodies but the truth still remains that He will always be more interested in the state of our spirits and in the condition of our hearts. Of what use is it to look so wonderful on the outside and then have a nasty attitude and an ugly disposition towards people? It doesn’t quite add up. My cardinal fashion principle is that I owe to myself and others in the society, respect, decency and modesty at all times.

Who is Glowreeyah Braimah? A child of God. Preserved by grace to influence her generation for such a time as this. I have accepted that I am versatile in my expression and a woman of many parts. I once termed it as being ‘a kaleidoscope of colours’. Apart from being a WorshipLeader/Music Minister, I love being a Writer and doing business as a Creativepreneur. I enjoy discovering the endless possibilities of the multipotentialism of who I am and what I can become. I come from a multitribal family. My Dad was my very first influence in music. He would play the piano most evenings after work and as a little girl, I was always mesmerized by this. Also, my Dad nick-named me ‘The Bridge’. Whatever observations about seemingly imperfect situations that may arise now are not new. Even Jesus gave a parable of the wheat and tares to reflect this so-called imbalance. From the letters written by the early apostles to various believers in Corinth, Ephesus etc, we can see that biblical history is rife with various instances that show compromise, lukewarmness etc. Whether in ancient times or in these modern days, we have all been called to say no to the lures of this world by the daily renewal of our minds through the word of God so that we all can be transformed into the image of Christ, the most Holy and Perfect One. slavery/exploitation of young, defenseless people. Which international and local artiste would you love to do a collaboration with? I admire a lot of dedicated and gifted artistes locally and internationally. However, the music ministry is a very delicate and sensitive call. Music industry reasoning is vital but not the driving-force of what the music ministry is seemingly all about. It is a creative output but every aspect of what it entails must be spirit-led. I am currently working on my sophomore album(with the recent releases of some singles ‘Open Heavens’, ’Jesus is here’) and prayerfully seeking out who I will be collaborating with on other tracks on the rest of the project. How do you let off steam and relax?

A complete woman can be likened to a tree planted by the rivers of living w a t e r. F r o m t h e s t e m o f t h e discovery of her gifts and talents, she must remain rooted in the terrafirma of her God and in the values and ideals flowing from His word. Standing strong enough to lift up her head inspite of contrary winds blowing all around her and yet sensitive enough to be swayed and touched with the feelings of infirmities of others around her. For the few times when her bark is bruised or she is plucked at by adversity, she must recognize that at the scent of healing waters, that she stands every chance of being restored and revitalized. She must also recognize that she is capable of bearing fruit in and out of season and that the essence of her leaves will always bring sweetness and life. Her branches must always be extended in support to her family, the people in her community and all those in need around her. In all of this, she must remain humble enough to know that the light that she receives to grow must all be attributed to the grace and power of God working in, with and through her for His glory alone. if you were not a Lawyer or a Music Minister, what would you be? There would have been two major possibilities. I could have been a Diplomat/Policy-maker for Children’s Rights in The Foreign Service. Or a Content Developer/Voice Actor working in Film and Animation.

glance at the papers lying on the bed as I nearly place the last cloth in the box. The divorce papers, with my signature already appended. Now it awaits Jacob's. For a moment I ask myself, "am I doing the right thing?" Yes I am. I have given Jacob room enough to mend this marriage but in every instance, he has thrown it away. On one occasion, I told our Pastor about our challenges and he was invited and counseled, only to get back home and beat me up, accusing me of leaking our "secrets to outsiders." Countless numbers of times he's abused me verbally. He cheated, even to my face. We have become like day and night. So this decision is right, I try to convince myself. Tonight would be our last night together. He'll sign those papers and tomorrow morning I will be gone, for good. I decide to get in the kitchen and prepare his favorite, that'll be the last kindness I'll show him before I leave anyways. At nightfall, the devil shows up. He reeks of alcohol. He kicks over stools, shattering vases as he staggered across the living room. Straight to the dining table he goes. What a shame of a man. Had I not had the fear of God in me, had I not been born again, I would have added a little drop of poison in the food. What a wasted life. It breaks my heart to see the man I once loved in this condition. My heart bleeds. On the one hand my mind is made up, on the other hand I feel pity for his condition - what will become of him when I'm gone. How miserable will he be? He has totally forgotten his faith. After his meal, he comes into the room. I bet he doesn't notice the divorce papers that now lies on the bedside cabinet. He climbs the bed and

lies beside me. He starts to run his fingers all over my body. I was shivery. He tries to be more intimate with me but I resist for the very first time since we've been married. I know we are still married. I know that for as long as we are married, I have to submit my body to my husband. But I resist. I can't risk it. I get up, pick one pillow and head straight to the living room. In the sitting room I get on my knees, and start to pray. "Lord, I am not asking you to save my marriage. I am only requesting for one thing. Take care of Jacob. Open his eyes and bring him back to you. Help him to again find purpose for his life. Do not let him go astray. Help him to be a better man, at least to whoever will come into his life. I am asking these with all the love I once had for him. Amen." I open my eyes and there he is at the doorway, leaning on the door frame. I say nothing. I lie on the couch and close my eyes. The rays of the sun wake me. The rays of freedom. Rays of a new beginning. I rub my face, pick up the pillow and head to the room to freshen up before I journey into a new life. By now I expect him to be sober. Sober enough to have signed the papers. I open the door and see a sober man. Sober than I expected. Jacob, face drenched in tears, goes on his knees. “Baby, can we please get a second chance?"

PASTOR BIODUN

FATOYINBO’S WARDROBE Written by Oluwatobi Ogidiolu

Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, founder of The Commonweal th of Zion Assembly has b e e n a n outstanding personality w i t h a n exceptional taste in fashion. Unlike the regular trend of pastors who wear plain, easy, simple and familiar style, pastor Biodun dresses in a beautiful and modest style to complement his personality and body shape. This style was not really associated with clergy men in this part of this world until the new millenium when few pastors proved that appearance does not measure the proof of genuine salvation but the content of the heart. We can be fashionable without cost to the salvation of our souls provided we remain sensitive to conviction over idolatry, greed, and vanity. There is no reason why Christians ought to feel guilty for valuing created things, including the things we clothe ourselves with. We laud Pastor Fatoyinbo for his good taste in fashion and his sense of pastoral propriety.

GOD’S PROVISIONS FOR YOUR HEALTH Health Tips by Deborah Ogundolapo Our God is a God of purpose and plan

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may prosper and be in health even as t h y s o u l prospers”, this is God’s desire for us in III John 1:2. God’s plan for us as the elect and spiritual Israelite is all round prosperity including our health, which is the pivot of all other prosperity. Jehovah God took the Israelites through the wilderness forty years without any material or health challenge ”Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness, so that they lacked nothing; their clothes waxed not old, and their feet swelled not” - Nehemiah 9:21. Our creator, knows that we can’t flourish and prosper in ill health (Career, financial, social, marital/relationship, academics, ministry), and that is why we see His thoughts and provisions for our health in diverse pages of the scripture: Exodus 15:26 – “If thou will diligently harken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and will do that which is right in His sight, and will give ear to His commandment and keep all His statute, I will put none of these diseases upon thee….for I am the Lord that heals thee” Proverbs 4:20 & 22 – “My Son attend to my words, incline thine ear to my sayings. For they are life to those who find them and Health to all their flesh” Jeremiah 30: 17 – “I will restore health unto you, and I will heal thee of thy wound…” As children of the living God (who does not fall ill and whose strength is as strong as His age) we are meant to enjoy wholeness in our health. We are to live a sickness/disease free life here on earth if we keep the terms of the covenant between God and us. It was recorded about Moses (a servant of God) that he

PG | 54 | JULY 2017

lived in sound health in spite of the enormous work of leading millions of Israelites through the wilderness. “And Moses was an hundred years and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated (reduced)”-Deuteronomy 34:7 Another provision that God has made for our health is in what we eat. At the creation of the world, God made the ground to produce the food we need. Genesis 1:29 says “And God said, behold I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat (food). Genesis 2:9 “And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food…” God also categorically stated it to the Israelites in their pursuit of the promise land in Deuteronomy 20:19-20 “Thou shall not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them for thou may eat of them, and thou shall not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man’s life) only the trees which thou knows that they be not trees for meat…” Let your food be full of natural stuffs. Eat more of what grows from soil (fruits, vegetables, herbs, tubers etc.), less of processed and prepackaged food. One other provision of God for our health is to exercise our body and mind positively for our benefit and that of our environment. In Genesis 2:15 & 19, God made Adam and put him in the Garden of Eden to dress and keep it (physical activity) and to name all the creatures of God (mental activity). The first man (the prototype) was not sitting down idle but fully engaged. I Timothy 4:8 says “bodily exercise profits little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come”. Jesus Christ, our Lord did not sit down in a place and send His disciples

to go about His assignment for Him like a boss to his servants, but was always on th e g o p h y s i c a l l y a n d m e n ta l l y. Godliness is a form of positive mental exercise; thinking through for solution is a positive mental exercise that even helps burn calories because you are using energy. The same energy you expend in anxiety is the same amount you will use to create solution for your issues. Productive thinking is the currency of the brilliant and the successful. Henry Ford said, “Thinking is the hardest work there is” so engage in productive thinking. Finally, you must allow your body to have adequate Rest to prevent sudden health challenges. The Scripture said in Genesis 2:2 that after God finished with all of His creations, He rested on the seventh day. As an adult you should have at least six to seven hours of sleep in the night and like an hour nap during the day (maximize your weekend for this). Release your mind from every form of tension: Go on vacation with your family. Play, pray and discuss with your children and wife (indoor and outdoor), don’t make a mountain out of every issue and attend to issues as they come. Philippians 4:6 says “ Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God”. Our God is a God of purpose and plan, and He has made adequate provisions for all His creations. If you do have any form of health challenge, it’s root cause must be identified and then locate God’s thought and provisions for you as regards it. You will be amazed at the great transformation your health and life will experience by His grace - greater e ffi c i e n c y, g r e a t e r p r o d u c t i v i t y, emotional stability, no sluggishness, reduction in medical bills, reduction in frequency of hospital visit etc. May your health be whole!
