DINING BY DESIGN MEGUMI GRASIER
THE PROJECT The structure is a woven bamboo shell that is design to sit in the Student Union patio, partially across the oversized stairs that lead into the lowered space. The shell provides much needed shade in the space, as well as additional concrete benches for seating. The structure encourages students and visitors to fully utilize the beautiful space and serves as a pleasant enviroment to enjoy refreshments from Starbucks.
THE SITE
San Jose State University Student Union
The Student Union patio is a beautiful, quiet, secluded space that is ideal for hanging out with friends. On days with nice weather, however, it is much too sunny and hot.
THE PROCESS The original form was created in a digital 3D modeling exercise. This was stretched and materials were added to create a structure that people can occupy the interior of.
