01 CROWN SHYNESS fall 2018 The crown shyness office is designed to embody Autodesk’s design principles: light, creativity, clarity, and depth. The space is an invigorating and inspiring space for employees to create and innovate in. Communication and collaboration are key; co-working spaces and an open space plan encourage teamwork. Prominent biophilia feature walls are incorporated throughout the office for the wellness and productivity of the employees. REVIT | ILLUSTRATOR | PHOTOSHOP

CONCEPT Autodesk seeks to empower people to create anything. The office embodies this principle, while expressing both the past and the future of innovation. Natural materials and textures are the base palette on which Autodesk’s branding colors add warmth and life. Smooth, undulating forms found throughout the interior call out to a biophilic order. Undulating ceilings and curvacious wall features evoke the feeling of being within the foliage of a forest. Live plants are an integral feature of the design for the wellness of the employees.

BIOPHILIA crown shyness

:A phenomenon observed in some tree species, in which the crowns of fully stocked trees do not touch each other, forming a canopy with channel-like gaps. The path of light represents the journey of how Autodesk has evolved and continues to evolve. Autodesk began with AutoCad, and over time it has continued to branch out and create software for multitudes of industries and creators.

The building is divided into a public side and a private side, with a central community space connecting the two. Program studies help to visually express the hierarchy and adjacency of the spaces needed. The public side includes social spaces and workshops for employees to express freely. The private side provides work spaces for 200 employees, with varying levels of privacy and proximity to others. Green walls are featured throughout the office to invigorate and refresh occupants.

02 SOCIAL NEST fall 2017 Social Nest is an outdoor pavilion located in the heart of the San Jose State University campus. The structure creates a destination in the student union patio, where students can rest, study, and socialize. Social Nest provides much needed shade and shelter, solving the main issue of the patio: the hot, bright midday sunlight. MODO | ILLUSTRATOR | PHOTOSHOP

S I T E A N A LY S I S / C O N C E P T concept sketches

The structure sits on the oversized steps in the patio of the student union. Its location is near the campus Starbucks as well as the busiest entrance and buildings on campus. There is high potential for this space to be a popular spot for resting, socializing, and studying. The site receives full sun during most seasons and most hours of the day. There is currently no shading on the primary seating structure. I sought to create a shading device that would complement the site and provide shelter and privacy within the open space.

03 CRYSTAL COPSE fall 2019 The Crystal Copse is an immersive chandelier that allows for occupants to view those outside the structure as well as those in it. The materials create an experience in which the occupants see unexpected sights depending on whether they view through glass or a 2 way mirror. The structure is composed of two towers: one inside the building and one outside. A bridge connects the two, thus connecting the site with downtown San Jose. SKETCHUP | ILLUSTRATOR | PHOTOSHOP

SITE What denotes public and private space in a city? The San Jose Performing Arts Center is a privately owned building in which access is controlled by purchase of a ticket, however its purpose to be available to the public. This project seeks to create a public destination out of the underutilized plaza and lobby of the performing arts center. Visual studies using photography and photoshop explorations inspire the visual components of the project.

CONCEPT The structure of the towers consists of the floor plates and the veil that sits around it. The veil is a tesselation of a module that is pieced together like a puzzle. The piece is derived from a series of collages created from photos of the theater interior and motifs. By using the module to form space, the effect of the crystalline, organic form creates a dynamic experience from both the interior and exterior.
