COMPUTER GENERATED IMAGERY (CGI) They say that an image is worth more than a thousand words, but the popular saying is shortened in our digital age. Nowadays, computergenerated images – CGI Computer Generated Imagery – have evolved enough to stop seeing a mere tool in them. In fact, infography has already become one of the artistic disciplines with the greatest potential for visual impact. And that's precisely the function of rendering cgi: to generate those images that catch, that give rise to emotions, and that remain in the retina. The 3D design has undergone many improvements aimed at satisfying the expectations and wowing the audience. The 3D computer graphics are among the most important findings. An important tool to provide a high quality, planned product for any architect, engineer, artist, game designer or publishing company. It stimulates interest when we look at plans, photographs, and promotional strategies, as it draws the attention of all and enables you to describe each item without disregarding the properties of darkness and lightness. The Rendering method is an important device in the design of large or small scale projects. Implemented by graphics in a machine, it helps the illustration to describe its width, breadth and length.

MARIA DEL CARMEN CORRAL LODEIRO

72546664

The 3d architectural design shows us a more realistic and complete picture of the project in formation. It's also important to point out that the application of a render ensures a better forecast of the outcome. If you're looking for a multifunctional and versatile tool, rendering will always be your best option, as you can use it to:

-

Show your project to the public: whenever you want to present your project, it's ideal to bring some illustration and it's better to show a realistic finish. Present your product: if you are new to the market, submit a range of 3D image items. Informative: The results can be presented where the exposed elements stand out. Educational or educational objectives: Explain, in an idealistic way, the necessary elements for the 3D teaching and learning process.

With the development of video games, special eects scenes and the desire to create highly realistic digital art, rendering has become part of daily dynamics. Research branches have also adopted this tool as a fundamental weapon for the formulation of their projects. The creation of models that enhance the dimensional characteristics of each project may provide answers to the challenges that arise at the time of their planning.

3

COMPUTER GENERATED IMAGERY (CGI) When a new project is presented, it is necessary to create the best explanation to capture the attention of the audience. Bad 3D architectural design can be a disappointment of your concept from the moment of planning. It is therefore important to know what the process is for creating it. Modelling No matter if you wish to create an exterior or an interior, it is necessary to add a structure to the image in order to establish the space that will comprise the project or the product that you wish to present. Volume is a key factor to show how many elements are covered in the work area. One of the main features of this phase is to set limits between possible and impossible in the scheme. Previously, this procedure was carried out through the development of models. It saves time and material in the update. Texturized The materials to be treated with shall be described in this second level. This work is done with multiple superimposed layers, that bring the picture the sense of reality. It is essential to note that the variations between different renderings are presented in this stage. The diversity of materials is evident by the volume in the image which each item would have.

MARIA DEL CARMEN CORRAL LODEIRO

72546664

Some of the materials depicted in this 3d design stage are: wood, concrete, plastics, stone, marble and metal, thus helping to distinguish various textures and enhance the quality of the images. The further information to this stage are given, the better the finish will be. Lightning At this point, we continue to set the light and contrast values that will allow us to more easily define the texture of the materials. This process enables us to capture the audience's attention by giving a clean and special touch to the appearance of the work. Rendering The three-dimensional effect is defined after the categorization of the materials, the size of each detail and the correct lighting for the task. This is the process that can take the longest time to produce 3D designs. Various elements, such as vegetation or exterior geography, are usually presented when exterior renderings are made. This adds more time to the creation due to the large number of details but enhances the staging process.

4

Post-production This is the last step of the process. Here, the work is refined in terms of colour, contrast, brightness and sparkle. In order to ensure authenticity, environmental details or special effects, such as rain, sun, animals or humans, are also included. CGI has transformed workflows in many sectors. In architecture and engineering, the patterns and patterns of traditions are now complemented by rendered presentations. On the other hand, the creation of prototypes through rendering makes it possible to save time and money. (All3dp, 2018)

In today's film industry, new productions are largely dependent on rendered images. Animation studios 3D have invested a lot of work in creating high definition animated films. To create the perfect scene, physical effects and accessories are combined with video effects and high-definition computer-generated images. No matter what the scene, there is no limit. In order to bring “The Mandalorian” to life, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and Epic Games, in collaboration with Jon Favreau's Golem Creations, have introduced a new way to launch VFX heavy-duty projects. The new virtual production workflow allows filmmakers to capture a significant amount of in-complex visual effects shots using real-motor technology (Epic's Unreal Engine) and LED screens to represent dynamic photoreal digital landscapes and sets with previously unimaginable creative flexibility. Directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God), The Two Popes stars Anthony Hopkins as Pope Benedict XVI and Jonathan Pryce as current pontiff Pope Francis in an intimate story about one of the most dramatic transitions of power in the Catholic Church’s history. A large proportion of the film takes place within the walls of the Vatican City. The Vatican was not involved in the production and the team had very limited or no access to some of the key locations. Under the direction of production designer Mark Tildesley, the production replicated parts of the Vatican at Rome’s Cinecitta Studios, including a life-size, open ceiling, Sistine Chapel that took two months to build. The Union VFX team scanned everything available and set about amassing as much reference as they could - photographing from a permitted distance, scanning the set builds and buying every photographic book they could lay their hands on. From this, the team set about building 3D models in Maya of St Peter’s Square, the Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. (Union VFX, 2019) .

CAD OR BIM? Until the mid-1990s, the architects mainly traced their plans with a pencil or a plume. This has changed completely: at the present time, the computers are present in all the architecture and design studios and, with the 3D architecture programs, the design process is getting faster and easier. Drawing with computers allows you to make changes faster. In addition, masses and dimensions can be generated automatically from planes and can then be used in calculation and billing programs. The possibilities of the 3D architecture programs are endless and they are useful both for the more ambitious projects and for the smaller ones. What is the dierence between CAD and BIM? Think of a rectangle in the AutoCAD. It could be anything from a swimming pool to a helicopter platform. The geometric form itself does not say anything about its intended use. The BIM tools (modeling of construction information) add a layer of data to the drawings. When you draw a rectangle in the 3D BIM architecture program, you also specify whether it is a floor, a door, a window, etc.

MARIA DEL CARMEN CORRAL LODEIRO

72546664

Since the BIM program realizes the intended use of each entity, it will automatically assign industry standard measures and materials. The BIM program approach makes it really easy to produce coherent architectural designs. The architecture programs of this type also make it possible to calculate the mass of buildings, the quantity of materials needed and their overall cost in an instant. The BIM programs such as Revit are designed for architects, electrical, mechanical, structural and MEP design teams. Thanks to the BIM tool, the user will not only be able to see the end of the project, but will also be able to make instant modifications to both the architect and the interior design studio, translated into better coordination between the two teams. In order for this to be possible, the materials manufacturers that we choose must have a library of components and products to add to the BIM platform. Where is the strongest use of BIM in interior design? Mainly in the management of small spaces. Thanks to the creation of the BIM model, the 3D design of the rooms allows the space available to be managed eďŹƒciently.

AUTOCAD ARCHITECTURE AutoCADÂŽÂ is computer-aided design (CAD) software that architects, engineers and construction professionals rely on to create precise 2D and 3D drawings. Although more oriented towards the design of plans and sketches, AutoCAD is also capable of creating amazing forms of 3D modelling and solid modelling. The first version of AutoCAD was launched in 1982. Since then, a great evolution has taken place, and from version 11 onwards, it is possible to visualise models on a 2D and 3D scale, both in space model and in space paper. This programme stands out for allowing command line access and application programming interfaces (APIs). In other words, it allows AutoCAD functions to be integrated into other programmes or applications. AutoCAD allows you to model in 2 and 3D almost anything you want thanks to its variety of drawing, editing and annotation menus. From detailed plans of an electrical installation, to the new packaging model of a product, to the interior design of a specific space.

In addition, this programme is famous for its powerful 3D navigation and visualisation tools. In other words, they allow orbiting, going around, pivoting and flying over a 3D model with the aim of seeing all the design perspectives. (Reyes, 2018) Fig 6 Aula10. (2016) AutoCAD plan [photograph]

AUTOCAD ARCHITECTURE AutoCAD Advantages It´s simpler and more realistic to operate on AutoCAD than on paper. We save a lot of money and it's a lot smoother. When Autodesk releases new updates, they don't change anything with regards to the existing updates The newest models are somewhat similar, except that they incorporate additional small features. Print setup in various formats is very simple. There is an infinite of formats included so we can change colours, borders, textures, and many other features. AutoCAD has been connected to several networks, with the advantage of being able to export and import all sort of files. It´s possible to draw both in 3D and 2D, but most applications in military, electronic and electromechanical technologies are in 2D. The 3D is typically used to draw an object for further analysis.Understanding the fundamentals of AutoCAD is easy to know (lines, sizes, writing, textures, specific functions). There are other technological methods to make the drawing easy for analysis, such as blocking layers, or turning them invisible, switching the hue to the same, and others.

MARIA DEL CARMEN CORRAL LODEIRO

72546664

Includes industry-specific features and libraries for architecture, mechanical design, electrical design and more. If you choose AutoCAD Architecture, you do not acquire a single subset of the original CAD program. The 3D architecture program includes all the features of the AutoCAD software. Add additional tools that are useful for the development of architectural plans of construction.

x

AutoCAD Disadvantages Although AutoCAD does not offer BIM features, it is still a popular tool used by many architects. It's very technical (everything is handled with numbers and coordinates) and requires a lot of learning time. A very powerful computer is required to work with the latest versions (especially in 3D). 2 GB of RAM, processing speed of 2GHz, and a space greater than 100 GB on the hard disc. If we are doing a 3D object, it usually slows down very much with many details. (Reyes, 2018) 12

RHINO3D Rhinoceros (commonly abbreviated Rhino or Rhino3D) is a commercial 3D computer graphics and CAD technology software developed by Robert McNeel & Associates, an American, privately held employee company founded in 1980. Rhinoceros geometry is based on the NURBS mathematical model, which focuses on the creation of mathematically realistic representation of curves and freeform surfaces in computer graphics (as opposed to polygon mesh-based applications). Rhinoceros is used in computer-aided design, computer-aided production, rapid prototyping, 3D printing and reverse engineering applications in fields such as construction, industrial design, software design and multimedia. This programme is ideal for creating organic shapes, as it is a design programme entirely dedicated to 3D design and has great flexibility in that dimension. This is a software that has a user-friendly interface and is definitely the best option to design in 3D with organic shapes. Any imaginable form can be modelled with Rhino's software platform. RHINO3D Rhino3D Advantages Rhino can create, edit, analyse, document, render, animate and translate NURBS curves, surfaces and solids, point clouds and polygonal meshes.

Improved drawing order, two-perspective and cutting planes and various work and presentation display modes.

There is no limit of complexity, degree or size other than that of your hardware. It's so easy to learn and use that you can devote yourself to design and display without having to worry about the software.

Rendering in real time and high quality by ray tracing technology

Precision required for the design, prototyping, engineering, analysis and manufacture of any product, from aviation to jewellery.

Rhino3D does not build architectural layouts and so the templates have to be rendered in another programme separately. Visual ARQ is an extension that adds BIM functions to Rhino, such as the design of architectural objects and dynamic documentation tools, to the 3D architecture program. However, many of the add- and extensions only work on Windows.

AUTODESK 3DS MAX 3DS Max is the major computer graphics software used to create 3D models, animations and digital images. It is a 3D modelling, animation and rendering programme designed and created to display games and models. It is one of the most common programmes in the computer graphics industry and is well known for providing a comprehensive collection of tools for 3D artists. It is definitely the favourite programme of video game producers, tv advertising studios and architects. The real estate and architectural industries use 3ds Max to create photorealistic images of buildings in the design process. Through this way, consumers can reliably imagine their critical spaces and give feedback based on actual models. 3ds Max uses polygonal modelling which is a common technique in game design. For polygonal modelling, artists have a high degree of control over individual polygons, which allows them a greater range of detail and precision in their work.

CGI artists should be able to create photorealistic photographs using techniques designed to mimic nature. 3ds Max is also able to shade common toons and other stylized techniques in video games.

After a model has been completed, 3ds Max can be used to create the materials and textures required to bring things to life.

3ds Max can create realistic models of fluids such as smoke and water, which are mostly used in the film industry. (All3dp, 2019)

AUTODESK 3DS MAX 3DS MAX Advantages 3DS Max helps you to manage complex scenes of vast amounts of polygons without showing any resistance beyond the graphical capacity of the computer's CPU. Any surface can be modeled and mapped without having to install and open another software to support you. 3DS Max modeling tools are much wider than other applications, oering organic modeling and modifier listing options that can be cloned and changed from one object to another. Quite big and without the need to install additional plugins or software other than those that come with the system by default. 3DS Max features two rendering engines to create realistic picture renderings of architecture: Arnold and Mental Ray, in addition to a wide variety of other external motors that can be installed.

MARIA DEL CARMEN CORRAL LODEIRO

72546664

One of the most impressive features of 3ds max is its interoperability. The software stands out for its versatility in this regard by demonstrating that it is compatible with Revit, Fusion 360, Creator, Harmony, Unreal and SketchUp. 3DS Max provides integration with other CAD and BIM systems, and these files can be used to create a general framework and improve the specifics of a 3D design.

3DS MAX Disadvantages 3DS Max is hard to understand because of the infinity of options it provides. The interface appears out of date with regard to its current rivals. In addition, some of the most important functions for infoarchitecture rely on third-party plugins and add-ons that are a payment of extra money beyond the price of the program, which is already high. BRICK VISUAL HAS DEVELOPED A RECOGNIZABLY DISTINCTIVE STYLE THAT DISPLAYS ARCHITECTURE IN A HIGHLY ARTISTIC MANNER. THIS KIND OF APPROACH HELPS CREATE IMMERSIVE AND EVEN MULTI-SENSORY EXPERIENCES THAT RESONATE WITH THE VIEWER FOR A LONG TIME. VISUALIZING ARCHITECTURE IS NOT JUST ABOUT DISPLAYING BUILDINGS ON THEIR OWN. GREAT DESIGN CONSIDERS THEIR CONTEXT AND FUTURE USE, WHILE VISUALIZATIONS SHOULD CREATE A NARRATIVE THAT TELLS STORIES AND SPEAKS IN A LANGUAGE THAT IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND. ART IS A GREAT TOOL TO CREATE THIS KIND OF CONNECTION BETWEEN THE VIEWER AND THE ARCHITECT.

TRIMBLE SKETCHUP https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SketchUp

Initially, Sketchup was developed as a 3D modeling app, giving priority to ease of use and usability for all users. It was created by Last Software in the year 2000. Later it was purchased by Google and eventually it was purchased by Trimble. Sketchup has grown over time and introduced new features, but it has never ceased to be an easy-to-learn tool. SketchUp is a 3D computer modeling software with a wide variety of drawing applications such as architectural, interior design, landscape architecture, civil and mechanical engineering, film and video game design. This is available as a web-based program, SketchUp Free, a freeware version, SketchUp Make, and a premium version with enhanced features, SketchUp Pro. There is an online repository of free model assemblies (e.g. windows, doors, cars), 3D Warehouse, to which users can add models. The software provides drawing layout features, allows surface rendering in variable "types," supports third-party plug-in programs hosted on the Extension Warehouse platform to provide additional capabilities (e.g. close photo-realistic rendering) and facilitates the placement of its models within Google Earth.

MARIA DEL CARMEN CORRAL LODEIRO

72546664

SketchUp Pro provides the features of SketchUp Make plus importers and exporters in popular 2D and 3D formats, access to LayOut (2D documentation software) and Style Builder (create custom edge styles for SketchUp models).[20] SketchUp Pro 2016 has native integration with Trimble Connect, treat 3D Warehouse models as guides, reconstructed Generate Report and now LayOut oers web-friendly refe. SketchUp Pro is a cross-platform software program that runs on both Windows and Mac computers. (Wikipedia Contributors, 2020)

TRIMBLE SKETCHUP SketchUp Advantages There are three modules of SketchUp available. The SketchUp Free, which is the simplest and most accessible 3D modeler around; SketchUp for school, a core modeler that is available in web browsers; and the SketchUp Pro a paid version that provides additional functionality. These modules cover a wide scope and ensure there is a perfect version for different designer across the entire industry. Some of its built-in features include lighting effects, textures, a layer manager, and animations. Although the application doesn’t offer a wide range of built-in models, it provides unique access to Trimble’s 3D warehouse. SketchUp has been one of the favorite tools to create architectural designs. However, the most remarkable feature of SketchUp's potential 3D architecture program is its large extension market. A significant number of these add-ons can be added to the SketchUp functions found in the BIM programs. It avails all the symbols and models which ensure CAD designers of different skill level achieve the desired results.

MARIA DEL CARMEN CORRAL LODEIRO

72546664

Most the features provided by SketchUp are fundamentally focused on 3D designing. However, the program has features and tools that support 2D designing. This makes it an ideal application for beginners looking to plan, visualize, and communicate future construction projects.

Users of this 3D architecture program can benefit from their drawing design and surface rendering functionality in various "styles." These styles range from artistic drawings to photorealistic renderings that can be used in promotional material. In short, this 3D architecture program is tailored to the needs of all. If this is not enough for you, you can choose from a wide range of rendering engines available as extensions. Improve your 3D architecture program with options such as Thea Render, Lumion, or V-Ray. REVIT Autodesk Revit is an intelligent BIM modeling design program, 'Building Information Modeling,' developed by Autodesk. This system is used in architecture and engineering to promote and streamline project design activities and work processes. BIM enables 3D intelligent object-based programming, called parametric families. In this way, Revit lets a change somewhere in your project result in a change in all areas immediately, without the need to manually adjust all views. Various fields of architectural and constructive design cooperate within this work system: architecture, structures, mechanics, plumbing, energy, and teamwork. Revit is based on a collaborative working methodology. Revit allows you to create a project from scratch, make adjustments, represent the dierent phases of the project, make energy simulations, etc. It also allows the positioning of components, measures areas, displays multiple design choices of the same building in the same folder, etc.

REVIT Revit Advantages

Revit Disadvantages

Revit provides a very careful and organized interface, where each and every item has easy access. Installation is simple and easy. This is a very robust system, because it is entirely appropriate for both small architectural projects and large-scale constructions. Not only does it work for architecture, but also for engineering, industrial installations and a long etc. It is a powerful collaborative work method, changes made by a user update all elements in real time. This covers the whole project, from its earliest period of analysis to its delivery to the client. From the start, all project elements are conceived in 3D, allowing the combination of quantities, materials, costs and thus the automatic creation of the budget. The Revit BIM software has a library of parametric components. In addition, new components, or editions of existing components, will also be stored in the library. (EsDiMa, 2019)

MARIA DEL CARMEN CORRAL LODEIRO

72546664

While Revit BIM software will be useful to architects and engineers, interior designers may feel frustrated. This is because Revit is not the easiest software to use if you want to work on interior construction from a dierent perspective. Revit has a predetermined isometric perspective, which may make it diďŹƒcult to see the non-showing planes. Although Revit's approach to precision is one of its most important aspects, it does remove it from some other areas of the software. For example, other digital design software packages tend to create more developed models. Revit has gained a lot of strength since it was first launched. However, it is not yet as popular as the major CAD and digital design tools. This lack of familiarity means that this does not have the same support community as other software packages. The only drawback of Revit is that it can only be run on Windows computers. MacOS users looking for a first-class 3D architecture program should take a closer look at ArchiCAD. (All3dp, 2018)

MY TWO CENTS

MY TWO CENTS After this brief approach to 3D design technology and CGI, I am even clearer about the potential of the use of technology in the interior design industry. We're the visual beings. Our eye can interpret the image in milliseconds. With our eyes, we buy what is presented to us as more attractive or convenient. As designers and creators, we must offer our potential customers a vision as close as possible to the idea that we want to sell, and 3D technology gives us the tools to turn the idea into a reality that does not yet exist physically.

And given the unquestionable quality of V-Ray, rendering engines used in the gaming industry, such as TwinMotion and its application to realvisualizations built in virtual reality, are moving fast. Anyway, my general impression is that there are no solutions that fit 100% of the designer's needs and that the best results are achieved by working with the tools that we feel more comfortable with.

I've been handling AutoCAD and SketchUp Pro since the beginning of the course, and more recently the V- Ray rendering engine. The differences with the manual drawing and rendering of the plans are significant, always considering that a paper error almost always ends with hours of work in the trash. I also got a new Windows computer with a powerful AMD processor and an RTX graphics card. Heavy- software requires hardware that can handle the data volume. (I can still spend hours waiting to see a project). Researching the creative and working possibilities of BIM versus CAD has reinforced my willingness to learn how to use Revit or ArchiCAD.

THE BRAND: LOUIS VUITTON The chocolate-brown leather canvas emblazoned with quatrefoils and the LV monogram is immediately recognizable as the international symbol of globetrotting luxury.

DESIGNING: Security measures against the spread of COVID-19 are subtly presented in the design. The receptionist is separated from the public by a glass screen with an integrated transparent OLED display showing visitor information (T-OLED). The surfaces that may come into contact with visitors have been minimized and are smooth and easy to disinfect without abandoning top-quality materials such as sofa and armchairs leather, (Minotti designs personalised by u s i n g LV m o n o g r a m empreinte leather.) marble, wood and golden finishes. DESIGNING: The distinctive monogram imprint of the brand appears on the backlit ceiling panels framed by steel beams, reminiscent of the roofs of glass buildings from the early twentieth century, together with the suspension lamps designed by me that recreate the four-foil design. DESIGNING: The damier is also present in the glossy, matt surface of the reception desk and in the floor areas. The plants and the black-andwhite mural reaďŹƒrm the conversation between the interior space and the small outdoor garden created by making the most of the existing space and substantially improving the original views, enlarging the essence of travel and exotic glamour inherent to the brand.

The spirit of travel is expressed in an exotic style influenced by the golden age of the great jour neys of the last century. For Louis Vuitton, the MC Design Studio creates a space from which to travel without moving, resisting the emerging normality that has put habitat on hold. High end personalised furniture and elegant finishes that capture the essence of the brand and show the elegance and refinement that have made the Maison the flagship of sophistication for over 150 years.
