I was supposed to visit three high-end restaurants or coffee shops in this mission. I decided to stay away from Starbucks-type businesses and research up-to - date restaurants and cafes to collect customer feedback and find out what makes them feel good about a visit to a café or restaurant, beyond the brand's statement or menu, and to use the data to look for materials for a potential national project. As you can imagine, due to COVID-19, the professional activity in the hotel and restaurant sector has been halted and only in the last two weeks has the dining room partially re-opened, restricted to serving on the terrace if it has one, or working only for home delivery. I addressed the managers of many restaurants & coffee shops, realizing that in several cases, I wouldn't receive a positive reaction. Finally , I got a positive response from two of them, who, as I predicted, did not agree with the concept of having a person taking pictures of anything and going around the tables. However, they agreed to share my questionnaire and asked me to use photos from their social networks, where furniture and the usual distribution can be seen.

Como bien señalas, son tiempos difíciles. Al igual que los demás, hemos tenido que cerrar durante estos meses, limitándonos a servicios de catering a domicilio. Hemos tenido que repensar muchas cosas para poder volver a abrir y daros el mejor servicio con las medidas de seguridad adecuadas y para ello hemos adaptado el espacio disponible para el público, para que os sintáis seguros, bien atendidos y la experiencia en Sinsombrero sea lo más agradable posible. I am Lourdes Díaz, head of Customer Service at Sinsombrero and I would like to say thanks on behalf of the staff for considering us for your studio. As you rightly point out, these are difficult times. Like the others, we have had to shut down during these months, restricting to home catering services. We had to rethink several things in order to reopen and give you the best service with the suitable security measurements, so we have adapted the space we have available for the public, to make you feel safe, well cared for and to ensure that the experience at Sinsombrero is as pleasant as possible. We would like to hear exactly what your idea is for your survey, so that we can evaluate it in depth, always focusing on our safety and that of our clients. PLAN B I used my personal contacts to get at least a third restaurant. Thanks to a mutual friend, I contacted with the owner of one of La Coruña's most inrestaurants (our home town). After a phone call we agreed to use photos from their social networks and distribute my questionnaire among the customers.

How to deliver a questionnaire to clients without distractions, without invading in business activity, and respecting measures of social distance? Using Google Forms and some pretty cards. MARIA DEL CARMEN CORRAL LODEIRO 72546664
This is the template that I used for SamanĂĄ CoruĂąa. Survey form is accesible by scanning QR code. I designed and ordered 150 cards, 50 for each survey form, with their corresponding QR, and sent them to the managers. They distributed the cards on the tables. Within two days I had an acceptable number of responses.

SAMANÁ SAMANÁ "Wow." That might be the first thing you say when you set foot in Samana, in A Coruña. This new restaurant is a very cool jungle. Plants are everywhere, both natural and wallpaper decorating. You need to bring a well-charged mobile phone and an extra battery because you're not going to be able to stop taking pictures. Its lamps, its concrete walls, its flower-clad chairs ... People are surprised that there is so much vegetation in the restaurant. The bathrooms, which are not separated by men and women, but are mixed, are also surprising. There is a black sink with a surprising design, and a dressing area with Hollywood diva bulbs that scream for a selfie (On Instagram there are hundreds of photos of women in Samaná 's bathroom). It is not a cafeteria or a restaurant, but a place that adapts to the different audiences and environments that are generated throughout the day. The tables are an exclusive design, such as lamps or flowerpots.

Lighting plays a key role in this restaurant's design. The wall lamp is an exclusive concept for Samana.

SINSOMBRERO Las Sinsombrero is the name by which a group of Spanish women artists born between 1898 and 1914 are known. The name comes from the gesture of taking off their hats in public that Maruja Mallo, Margarita Manso, Salvador Dalí and Federico García Lorca made at the Puerta del Sol. "They stoned us by calling us anything", Mallo herself says in some recordings made by TVE after returning from exile. (Wikipedia contributors, 2020) Sinsombrero pays homage with its name to these women, erased from the artistic and intellectual scene by Francisco Franco's dictatorship. This great place, strategically located, with a capacity for more than 250 guests, is divided into 4 rooms bathed in fantastic natural light and with a careful design inspired by the 1920s. EL COLUMPIO My favorite for lunch, dinner, coffee or a drink. The space has been divided into three rooms with a Mediterranean essence, full of aromas and memories. On the one hand, the bar area, with a rustic air, with traditional utensils and tools, a lot of wood and exposed beams on the ceiling. On the other hand, the dining room and the cocktail bar with a more chic and sophisticated look, inspired by the 1920s with retro lamps, large mirrors and sofas upholstered in brightly coloured velvet. And finally, a chill out area with a more relaxed and informal atmosphere, like a beach bar.

1.2 EVALUATION We then evaluate the opinions of the customers reflected in the questionnaires and assess their reliability. This is especially complicated because it is not possible to know in what ways to influence the opinion of the respondents the current situation which is dominated by the existence of COVID-19 and the emergence of a restricted situation in the world. Considering that, on the one hand, the survey was conducted in a totally abnormal situation, where restaurants and businesses had to significantly reduce their capacity, and even change furniture and distribution in order to comply with security measures, and that, on the other hand , people were keen to be able to resume social activities, I do not know to what extent I can trust the results. Some people might even find the parking lot of a supermarket beautiful. A small detail: there is greater input from women than men. It could be due to several factors, although being in the first week of stores´ sales it is not unreasonable to believe that is the true reason. Customers find all the locations studied to be, as a rule, pleasant and their color scheme seems to them to be correct. Although it is true that the presence of the interior designer was particularly relevant in all three spaces, it must be remembered that some people were confined to tiny apartments, with very little natural light in many cases. So, in a parallel universe, where there are no rare viruses running around the streets, the answer might be different. I can read through the answers to the question of what they like best, that they appreciate the experience of comfortably sitting at a table, and that the materials are nice to touch.

Colour scheme survey results by gender Colour scheme (men) There are, however, some answers where the color scheme is irrelevant to some customers, all of whom are male. (See graph 13 and graph 17 comparison) I wouldn't know how to interpret this if I didn't have two gentlemen in my family home who would be better off not being too clumsy when it comes to combining their clothes. It also strikes me that there are a number of opinions in Sinsombrero 's case that speak of the exposed concrete ceiling, something that does not seem to like very much. (See p 51 tables13 -14) Honestly speaking, the ceiling is not one of the elements that people usually focus on, unless it is the focal point of a design. They probably wouldn't even notice it in a more crowded environment, and with less empty space around them.

Another view that draws attention to this is the reference to Samaná: it is very clear that the design of the toilet is total, but it seems that more than one client is choking the lamps. Some also have a negative view of the wallpaper in the dining room, "the monkeys wallpaper," they say. Although the design works well, and being one of the first places in town to have those features, some people may find it shocking. (See p. 49 Tables 9-10) I have made two things clear from the El Columpio survey: people in Madrid love the countryside (I suspected it when I saw the kilometric queues of cars leaving the city every weekend) and that they were only in the bar area of El Columpio, because it is true that the stools are killers. (See p.50. tables 11-12)

Probably the dining room did not have so much public affluence, because in addition to being able to open completely the huge windows that give to the street in the bar area, ventilation is favored and psychologically may make people feel safer (data later confirmed by the waiter).
1.3 ANALYSIS In general , people value materials with a pleasant touch and a visually attractive design, but without sacrificing form by function. They want a pleasant, comfortable and beautiful environment, just as they want a good coffee or a good meal. The analyzed interiors pass the test with flying colours. Not surprisingly, they are now among the most fashionable restaurants, both for their design and for their gastronomic quality. After this brief survey,when choosing materials for my design, I must keep this in mind, taking into account that my design will have an implicit image of a brand, which must have its own style to distinguish it from its competitors, but it must not be alien to fashion and must adapt to it, as well as to the needs and tastes of its customers. To this end, I have collected the strengths and weaknesses of each of the three surveys and compiled a table that I will use as a guide when selecting materials. (See p. 56 Remarks)

For my design, I selected materials based on esthetic and functional criteria. Inspired by Thonet chairs, the chairs and stools are a classic and very comfortable style. I had previously considered a model with similar aesthetics made of 100% recycled polypropylene plastic, but the lack of a cushion and the customer evaluation of the seats made me decide on version I chose.

Contract equipment is a highly specialized distribution platform where we can find products that give the highest guarantee in terms of price and resistance. Likewise, decoration currently plays a key role for businesses, as it allows them to distinguish themselves from their rivals in an effective and productive manner. Great outcomes obtained by betting on an appropriate and diligent portrayal of the brand are reflected in the benefits. If the fabrics for domestic use have to pass a series of tests to guarantee the quality of their use, the contract division is much more demanding, having to comply with strict regulations that vary depending on the country to which the product is to be sold. Contract fabrics are used in places where there is a high traffic of people using them. Hotels , restaurants, hospitals or airports are places that demand superior quality in the choice of fabric for upholstered armchairs, chairs, walls or curtains. The most important tests that these types of fabrics must pass when used in busy areas begin with fireproofing legislation. In other words, the Regulations state that all fabrics intended for the contract sector must comply with a series of characteristics that make them ideal for this type of space without any danger to cigarettes, lighters or matches. In addition, a certain number of cycles must also be passed in the Martindale Test. In other words, the specific fabrics for Contract must comply with the strength standard that measures wear resistance, and this is done by subjecting the fabric to an abrasion process measured in cycles. The minimum number of cycles required for the contract sector must be 40,000. The higher this value, the higher the wear resistance, and therefore the better it is to be used in this type of space with continuous and usual use. However, contract fabrics are used in the first division and therefore, in addition to the tests just mentioned, and in order to guarantee the quality of their use, they must undergo further tests to measure wear, weight loss or to evaluate the change in appearance of the fabric.
Floors for public spaces, such as offices or various establishments, must be very resistant to withstand the high traffic they are subjected to. In addition, they must be easy to maintain and have an undeniable aesthetic value. Similar requirements apply to wall coverings that may have the best technical characteristics, fireproof, washable and sunlight-resistant paper or pigments, regarding to paint. When we think of the best floors for contract spaces, we think of solid floors that can withstand anything. But, in addition to this resistance and durability that are essential, we also need them to be decorative and welcoming, helping us to create atmosphere in this type of public places such as hotels, restaurants or other commercial establishments where interior design is a decisive factor. Contract furniture is the most profitable type of furniture for businesses. It will not be necessary to renew them from time to time when they lose their shape, wear or break. Furniture renovation can cause a store to stand still for a certain amount of time, and a business that doesn't open its doors is a money-losing business. Contract furniture is designed and manufactured with resistance in mind for this reason. (Fiaka, 2018) Using this information and the preferences guide table, I'm ready to pick the materials I 'm going to use in this project.
It should also be noted that the fabrics intended for Contract are mostly antibacterial, avoiding the spread of mites and fungi that may harm their users. (Aquaclean, 2020) 64

When it comes to material selection, in addition to aesthetic and practical requirements, I have tried to look for versatile materials that are easy to install and as sustainable as possible. All the items chosen for this project come from the contract network, including painting, and are manufactured on the Peninsula (with the exception of modular seats and lamps and paper soffits made in France). We all come from producers with proven industry expertise and their products can be seen in a variety of ventures. In general, it would not be a problem to order materials for a project at national level, as long as execution and delivery times are scheduled, particularly in the case of vinyl murals or Honeycomb paper (which decorates concrete ceilings while concealing and is installed in the blink of an eye), as these are custommade items. In the hypothetical case where any item could not be produced or distributed, it is also not very difficult to find another product with similar characteristics.
Today, the standardized pattern of large companies is falling into disuse. A giant like Starbucks has abandoned the uniform style of its coffee shops, betting on local materials and different designs in each store, retaining its branding mark and improving its product above brand aesthetics, focusing on an interior design that is no longer homogeneous and betting on the local economy while reducing transport and manufacturing costs. Starbucks welcomes you to come in and have a coffee in a spot that is no longer the same as the others, removing the dĂŠjĂ vu coating that the major retailers have used to us. It's showing us the way and we've got to follow it.
I have to confess that I was quite visual and that I chose maybe the most luxurious chairs I could choose, without being Thonet. Perhaps I should rethink my decision and look for a cheaper alternative, and even go to the chair listed on page 61, which is cheaper and totally recyclable, as well as maintaining the elegance of an old chair. The logo can be manufactured in brass and vinyl adhesives of the same color, perspex, etc. There are many other multiple strategies within the design style, and the proportions and uses of the materials in the design are very versatile.
