Lieutenant Governor Report Hello Division 15, Happy New Year! It is almost surreal that it is January 2013. I remember last year around this time I was preparing for my Lieutenant Governor Elections. I cannot express how much I have enjoyed 2012, and it is all thanks to my wonderful division! I think winning the spirit stick might have been the only resolution I accomplished. The next few months are the final stretch of the service year, and I’m confident we will make Division 15 history. With our t-shirt sale ready to launch, another dance awaiting us in a month, and Eliminate Games that are to happen soon, we have a lot on our plates. Let’s bring the same enthusiasm we brought to Fall Rally to DCON! Sincerely,
Melika Behrooz Leadership Advisor Rob, LTG Diti, LTG Bria, and myself at November Board!
ONLY ONE CAN CONTINUE IN HOPES OF BEING DIVISION 15’s TRIBUTE IN A DISTRICT-WIDE GAME.
Competitors will try their skill in “Minute to Win It” style challenges. Only one will become Division 15’s tribute, and will represent us in a District-Wide Competition. The hurricane has delayed our decision on the location of the Games. Participating in the games will be $10, and to watch the games will be $5. Please introduce the competition to your clubs, until we can set a definite date and place. You should consider giving community service for those who participate. Remind your members that it is all for a great cause: The Eliminate Project.
SOME NOTES ON DUES Here is everything you need to know about dues! Dues are a vital part of Key Club International. They fund everything from district scholarships to events, fundraisers and training conferences.
I’m aware that there have been some issues with the dues process this year. As of today, only Dickinson High School’s dues have been accounted for. I’m sorry that the dues process has not been going smoothly for many of you. There really is not much that can be done on my behalf, but I would urge you to try your absolute hardest get assistance from someone directly at Kiwanis. The email is emailmemberserv-
ices@kiwanis.org but I suggest you call them at 1-800-KIWANIS, and try dialing extension 411. You should call them at lunch times or directly after school, because they have business hours and are not always available. On February 1st treasurer Joe T. will begin writing delinquent status letters. Please make sure he does not address one to you.
Annual Achievement Report Form Before District Convention (April 5-April 7), all clubs are required to fill out an annual achievement report form. It may seem like a lot to stress over but don’t worry; it is just an extended Club Monthly Report Form. This form will inform us how your club has done in the past service year and help us assess the strengths and weaknesses of your club. If a club fails to fill out this form on time, they will be disqualified from all contests, awards, and scholarships. A club cannot attend DCON without having filled out this document. The Annual Achievement Report form was sent to you all as an attachment to the last newsletter email.
DCON Once you have your dues in, your annual achievement report form completed, and your DCON registration packet filled out, you are ready to attend DCON ! I hope you are all able to send at least two delegates to convention this year, with all of the fundraising you have done over the course of the past few months. In preparation for DCON, each club is required to participate in a DCON contest. Contests include essays, speeches, scrapbooks, and even posters. Pick a contest Our Division at DCON last year ! that you think demonstrates your club’s strengths. There are also awards you can apply for, that award prizes to clubs based on their service projects and fundraising, with respect to the size of their club. Please research all that you can regarding the contest process so you can attend DCON and be a winner as well ! There is one last thing I would like to tell you all about DCON this year. We have always known it as District Convention, but this year we are opting to formally call it the District Education and Leadership Conference. We feel this better communicates the educational aspects of convention. So formally, it is the District Education and Leadership Conference, but in short it will always be DCON. Don’t forget to find an advisor from your school to attend DCON with you !
Sergeant at Arms DCON Dress Code Hey Key Clubbers! For DCON, during the sessions, workshops and meals, all attendees must be dressed in business attire. For girls, skirts/ dress must be at least finger tipped length, a dress shirt, no flip flops, no low cut shirts, no shorts, no see through anything, for example lace shirts. We recommended not to wear heels, you will be walking around a lot. For boys, they must wear slacks, a dress shirt, dress shoes, and a tie. Like last year we will be having our tie sale. Business colors usually consist of black and white, if you really want to go all out. If you are caught breaking the dress code, you will be asked to return to your room and change. But fear not, there will be times when you can wear casual attire.
Curfew All attendees must fallow the schedule given to them when they arrive. This includes attending all sessions, some workshops, and being back in their room by 12 am! The sergeant at arms committee will be checking all rooms. If any of the rules are broken your parents will be contacted and you will be sent home.

ELIMINATE hands will be sold again during the 2012-2013 service year! These hands are similar to the ones from last year. However, this year they have cool facts on each hand regarding the District Project: The Eliminate Project. There are twelve different hands to choose from. Each purchase of a hand can save a child’s life and support the ELIMINATE focus: to eliminate MNT. Hands will be sold for $1 and each purchase you make will save a child’s life. Three different doses of the necessary vaccine for MNT cost $1.80.
You can write your name on each hand, and they will be hung up in schools all around New Jersey!

Scholarships By Tracy Vollbrecht Scholarships are awarded to senior Key Clubbers who exemplify dedication to serving the children of the world, demonstrate an outstanding capacity in academics, and uphold the object s of Key Club International during high school. The 18 available scholarships range from $1000 to $2000. Applicants only need to apply once to be eligible for all of the scholarships. In order to apply, download the complete Scholarships Packet at http:// njkeyclub.org/awardsresources.php. Fill out the Application Information Sheet. Use the School Transcript Form to request a copy of your transcript. On a separate sheet of paper, list involvement in Key Club projects. Provide a summary of any outside service. On a separate sheet of paper, give a brief description of your most important academic or extra-curricular achievement unrelated to Key Club. Write a two-page essay about a memorable Key Club Service Project. Obtain letters of recommendation. Have an advisor fill out the Advisor Verification Form. Refer to the packet for complete instructions. Mail this entire packet (except for the transcripts as guidance counselors will mail them) by February 20th, 2013. Once the applications are received, a committee of Kiwanians read through the applications. The main criteria these Kiwanians focus on are that the entire packet is complete, the essay, and the letters of recommendation. The essay and the other descriptions are the applicant’s opportunity to tell the committee who he/she is, what he/she has done in and out of Key Club, how he/she got involved, his/her motive for doing community service, and how he/she benefitted from the service. These personal portions of the packet are where the applicant can show about how Key Club has developed the applicant’s leadership skills and how the applicant has benefited from the leadership opportunities that Key Club provides, such as Key Leader. Ron Orthwein, a past Kiwanian on the Scholarships committee, advised that the applicant get letters of recommendation from people outside of Key Club who are familiar with the applicant’s service record. The example he provided was a Kiwanian with whom the applicant worked on a service project. Please feel free to contact Tracy Vollbrecht with any questions or concerns. Mail the packet to: Key Club Scholarships c/o Tracy Vollbrecht 11 Moak Drive Hazlet, NJ 07730 Ltg.tracy.vollbrecht.div8@gmail.com

ADVOCACY BRACELET SALES By LTG Eric Smuda
What? The District Programs Committee will be selling light blue livestrong bracelets featuring “BElieve in YOUrself” engraved on them for only $1 a piece! All money raised will go to the ELIMINATE project.
Why? The purpose of the bracelet is to raise awareness for this year’s advocacy focuses: anti-bullying and self-acceptance. Not only can reading this inspirational quote give a person the encouragement to fight for another day but it also raises money for the Eliminate Project!
How to buy? Clubs will be receiving their bracelets as soon as the order comes in. Please start promoting these bracelets in your clubs now! These bracelets can also be bought based on how many members want them for $1 each or bought in bulk for $1 each and sold for higher as a fundraiser with the profits going to the Key Club’s treasury!
