Message from Chief Kitchens
The men and women of the Leavenworth Police Department are proud to present the 2020 Annual Report. The year was filled with extraordinary and unprecedented challenges including a global pandemic, civil unrest from high profile police shootings, and a contentious presidential election. The overall crime rate in the City of Leavenworth went down in 2020 by 11%. The more serious Part 1 Crimes were down 1%. All other crimes were down significantly. We saw more progress in dealing with Mental Illness as the number of incidents declined by 39. We continue to see a troubling amount of Domestic Violence calls overall and this year we saw an increase. The law enforcement profession overall continues to focus on hiring and retention. Locally we have seen some signs of improvement in that area and we will continue to work hard in that area. The men and women of the Leavenworth Police Department will continue to work hard every day to provide for our community’s public safety. Chief Patrick R. Kitchens Leavenworth Police Department
