Cardio & Weight Rooms: Stair steppers, stationary bikes, treadmills, and weight equipment are available to help you reach your fitness goals. These rooms are locked at all times. Please check out a key at the front desk. Indoor Track: The center has a 1/10 mile indoor track, which is open year-round during regular business hours.

New! Classical Ballet (Ages 3 & up) This classical ballet program teaches expression through movement to classical music while learning proper ballet technique and vocabulary. Instructor Iryna Hampton, originally from Ukraine, has been teaching ballet for 20 years. She is a former ballet dancer and has performed various roles in the “Nutcracker,” “Gisele,“ La Sylphide,“ Swan Lake” and more. Built during the gilded age in 1880, the Riverfront Community Center has beautiful spaces available for weddings, meetings and special events. Contact Riverfront Community Center Manager Tammy Metzgar, 913-680-2709 or tmetzgar@firstcity.org for reservations. A $100 to $300 refundable damage/security deposit is required to confirm reservations. Hourly room rental rates include set-up and take-down of furniture and trash removal. Decorating time is charged at $10 per hour. Table sizes are small round (36 inches) large rounds (60 inches) and rectangular (3 X 6-foot). Other sizes are available. Rental items: Projector system $25, portable screen $10, patio furniture $25, bar or fireplace $25, table skirts $15. Table decorations are also available. CATERING: Catering options include in-house caterer, Terry Booker, at 913-680-1300 or theabcafe@gmail.com, or hiring an outside caterer (requires a 20 percent surcharge.) Harvey Girl Luncheons

Step back into the late 1800s when Fred Harvey was helping tame the west with his train depot restaurants and the Harvey Girls. A lovely lunch is served at the Riverfront Community Center by the Harvey Girls, followed by a brief history of Fred Harvey and the girls. Sloga Join Robin Krasnesky for a relaxing evening of “Sloga,” a gentle yoga class. Appropriate for all experience levels, this class is the perfect antidote for stress and fatigue. The focus will be on gentle stretching, stress relieving breathing techniques, strengthening and toning muscles, refreshing the joints’ range of motion, exploring the sense of balance, and developing endurance and flexibility. Sports and Activities Registrations for these programs are accepted at the Riverfront Community Center unless otherwise noted. Sports Officials: For information on officiating or to report a problem, contact Tabor Medill, Recreation Program Supervisor, at for information, call (913) 651-2203 or (913) 758-6648. Practice Field Reservations City league adult and youth teams may reserve practice fields. To reserve a practice field, call 913-651-2203. A confirmation of the reservation will be e-mailed to the Head Coach. Tournaments Fields may be reserved for tournaments. The fee will be $125 per field per day with lights included. A contract MUST be signed for tournament field reservations and the fee MUST be paid at the time the reservation is made. Must apply and pay in advance at the Parks and Recreation Office. Rain-out Line (913-364-5821) Notice of cancelled games will be recorded by 4 p.m. on weekdays. On weekends, cancellations will be updated by 8 a.m. for morning games; NOON for afternoon games; 4 p.m. for evening games. If games are not cancelled, there will be no new message. Coaches will be notified by e-mail of the make-up date. Adult Co-ed Volleyball Open to all men and women age 19 and over whose high school class has graduated. Current active college players are not eligible to play. Each team is guaranteed 10 matches. There must be a minimum of 6 players per team. The season will run March-April. The Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department sponsors summer baseball/softball leagues for boys and girls ages 5-13. Registration/ Boys Girls Age waiver forms will be distributed through as of the Leavenworth Schools and the Riverfront 5/1/15 Community Center. Only those who register by the deadline will be guaranteed to play Instructional Instruc5-6 on a team. Teams will be chosen by a skills Baseball tional testing system. Registration: March 1 – April 15 Team: $50 per player Dog Manners & Obedience Dog trainer, Kim Downing, will teach you and your four-legged friend the basic commands. Geared for dogs ages 4 months or older. Must be current on vaccinations. This is a 7 week program.

Level I: This is the foundation level class and includes many behaviors like beginning walking on leash, sit, down, come, focused attention, place, and stay. Level II: (Prerequisite: Successful completion of Level I class.) This a continuation of Level I with the skills getting more refined and difficult. Additional skills like directional come, leave it, wait, back, and stand will be added along with work on mannered greetings. Includes AKC Canine Good Citizen test. Come celebrate your birthday or special event at the indoor pool. During our Open Swim Time, you may reserve the balcony over the pool and have your cake and presents right there. Admission cost is $1 per child, $1.50 per adult, balcony reservation $10 per hour. After-hour private parties are also available. Fees: $50/hour for City residents or $55/hour for non-residents. Lap Swim Rules

No one under 14 admitted into the pool during lap swim, unless authorized by the Recreation Program Supervisor. All lap swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted, using front crawl. Circle swim is required when there are more than two swimmers per lane. Please choose a lane with swimmers equal to your ability. (Always stay to the right). No more than five swimmers per lane. Exceptions to these rules must be approved by Recreation Program Supervisor.

In order to keep all patrons safe while enjoying the pool, only noodle floats may be used. No other toys or floats allowed except for class times. An approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD) may be used by an individual with special physical or mental need. This must have prior approval from the Aquatic Supervisor.

The Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department provides American Red Cross swim programs for children, teens, and adults. Certified instructors will provide you with a supportive environment in which to learn and obtain skills. All Learn to Swim classes will be taught at the Riverfront Community Center. This program will provide instruction and review to better prepare swimmers for the summer recreational league. Swimmers will work on stroke mechanics and refinement, starts, turns, finishes. We will gradually build on endurance through the 4 weeks and improve on fitness and readiness for the summer swim season. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training

Students will be certified in lifeguarding, CPR, AED, and First Aid. Prerequisite: Must swim 500 yards nonstop using front crawl and breast stroke and retrieve a 10 lb. brick from 9 feet of water. Successful completion of this certification course provides the required qualifications for participants to be able to apply for lifeguard positions. The City of Leavenworth’s minimum age for employment for lifeguards is age 16. Minimum age to take class is age 15. Only 19% of Kansans eat the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables.

FEBRUARY Throughout February: Indoor Ironman (or woman) Competition – February 1-28 A self-paced training opportunity incorporating the three events of a triathlon: Swimming (2.4 miles) , bicycling (112 miles), and running (26.2 miles). When a participant completes the required distances of an ironman competition, the individual is awarded an “Indoor Ironman” T-shirt. The participants have the entire month of February to complete the distances. Registration: January 1-31. FEE: $25 (Includes community center admission in February) SIGN UP throughout February for Adult Spring Double-Header Softball (see page 5) Feb. 7 “Hidden Art Locked Away” - Free admission. Rent a City of Leavenworth Picnic Shelter for your Special Event Rent a shelter for the day at Leavenworth City parks. Picnic tables seat 6-8 people. Extra tables are $5 each. Ray Miller Park shelter has no access to restroom facilities.

Easter Festivities & Egg Hunt - 1 – 2:30 p.m. Join the Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department at 10th Avenue Park for their annual Easter Egg Hunt for children age 12 and under. There will be games, activities, petting zoo, bounce house, food vendors and more. Bring your Easter basket and get ready for the hunt! Festivities: 1 –2:30 p.m. Egg Hunt begins 2:30 p.m. at sharp. Leavenworth Parks

Leavenworth City Parks Leavenworth Landing Park: This scenic park on the Missouri River is available to rent for special occasions. Permit fees are $15 per hour ($20 for non-City residents) with a $100 refundable damage deposit. Fees are due when a permit is requested. Choose either the Paddlewheel Plaza or the Railroad Roundhouse. The Bridge Tender’s Building rents for $20, with a $20 refundable key deposit. Legacy Tree Program Commemorate a special person or event with a living legacy. For a $200 fee, a tree will be planted and a plaque erected at the planting site. Request forms are available at the Parks & Recreation Office. For an additional $200, you may request a 5” x 5” aluminum plaque. For a larger plaque size, please call the Parks & Recreation Department at 913-651-2203 for details. Memorial Bench Program Another way to honor a special person or group is through the purchase of a memorial bench with an attached commemorative plaque. The Parks & Recreation Department will install a beautiful, high-quality aluminum bench in Leavenworth Landing Park. Down payment required to order. Picnic Shelters: Shelters available for rent for special events through the Parks and Recreation office, call 913-651-2203. Adopt-A-Park Volunteers agree to establish a presence in the parks and reporting vandalism and maintenance problems, picking up litter, painting, weeding, or gardening. Donations also may be made for park improvements. City staff will provide guidance and some materials for projects. Alcoholic Beverage Permit: By City ordinance, alcoholic beverages are prohibited in City parks, except as authorized by Parks and Recreation to Leavenworth area residents with a park reservation permit. There is a $10 alcoholic beverage or beer permit fee.
