NEW - Tot Watch Child care will be available for patrons utilizing the Riverfront Community Center weekday evenings beginning June 1. Children will enjoy toys in a supervised play room. Leavenworth City Parks planted and a plaque erected at the planting site. Request forms are available at the Parks & Recreation Office. For an additional $200, you may request a 5” x 5” aluminum plaque. For a larger plaque size, please call the Parks & Recreation Department at 913-651-2203 for details. Memorial Bench Program Another way to honor a special person or group is through the purchase of a memorial bench with an attached commemorative plaque. The Parks & Recreation Department will install a beautiful, high-quality aluminum bench in Leavenworth Landing Park. Down payment required to order. Cody Park 3003 Shrine Park Road Leavenworth Landing Park This scenic park on the Missouri River (Esplanade & Cherokee Streets) is available to rent for special occasions. Permit fees are $15 per hour ($20 for non-City residents) with a $100 refundable damage deposit. Fees are due when a permit is requested. Choose the Paddlewheel Plaza or the Railroad Roundhouse. (Note: This park has active train tracks.) The Bridge Tender’s Building rents for $20, with a $20 refundable key deposit. The park, which is adjacent to the Riverfront Community Center and historic downtown Leavenworth, also connects to the Three-Mile Creek Trail at Leavenworth Landing Park walkway.

Alcoholic Beverage Permit By City ordinance, alcoholic beverages are prohibited in City parks, except as authorized by Parks and Recreation to Leavenworth area residents with a park reservation permit. There is a $10 alcoholic beverage or beer permit fee. Game Kits Rent a kit at the Parks & Recreation Office for $5 (& a $20 refundable deposit) for up to 3 days. Includes a volleyball & net, one baseball, two softballs, two bats, three gloves, a football, & a soccer ball. Picnic Shelters Rent a shelter for the day at Leavenworth City parks. Picnic tables seat 6-8 people. Tables included with a reservation will fill each shelter comfortably (except as noted below). Extra tables are $5 each. Ray Miller Park shelter has no access to restroom facilities.

All park and alcohol permits are issued at the Leavenworth Parks & Recreation Office, 123 S. Esplanade Street. City ordinance requires that all dogs be on leashes. Adopt-A-Park Program If your group is looking for a way to make a difference in our community, consider adopting a Leavenworth city park or other landscaped public area. Participants can choose from a variety of tasks: establishing a presence in the parks and reporting vandalism and maintenance problems, picking up litter, painting, weeding or gardening. Donations also may be made for park improvements. City staff will provide guidance and some materials for projects. Contact Julie Anderson, Parks & Recreation Director, at (913) 651-2203, or

janderson@firstcity.org. Choose a park and decide what activities you will be able to do and how often. Once this is established, a sign will be erected in the park with your group’s name and logo. Riverfront Park Campground This cozy park beside the Missouri River is the perfect place to relax. The campground offers basic and electric camping pads, tent camping, a bath house with four private units, a boat ramp, picnic shelter, and dump station. (Note: This park is adjacent to active train tracks.) For information and reser-

vations, call the Park Manager at (913) 290-0034. Open April 1-October 31. Campground Fees A key deposit of $20 is required of all campers receiving a gate and/or restroom key. This deposit will be returned to the patron upon departure and successful return of the keys. Lost keys will result in forfeiture of the $20 deposit. Aquatic Programs Lap Swim Rules Riverfront Community Center Pool Hours No one under age 14 admitted into the pool during Lap The RFCC Pool will be closed July 25 & 26 for maintenance. Swim, unless authorized by the Recreation Program SuperProgram Days Times visor. All Lap Swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted, using front crawl. Circle swim is Mon./Wed/Fri. 6 - 8 a.m. and required when there are more than two swimmers per lane. Lap Swim 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Choose a lane with swimmers equal to your ability. (Always Tues./Thurs. 6 - 8 a.m. and stay to the right). No more than five swimmers per lane. When that session closes, those registered lessons will be assigned to an instructor within 3 business days, and parents/guardians will be called with details of the first lesson all arranged. Aquatic Center Regulations Children age 9 and under must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult age 18 or older. Proper swim attire required. No thongs, cut-offs, “sagging,” or suits with belts, buckles, rivets, etc. NO street clothes will be allowed past the breezeway. Improper conduct or profane language will not be tolerated.

Family Fun Nights at Wollman Parents can join in with their children of all ages and enjoy this NEW program. Certified Lifeguard staff will lead wet and wacky pool games with prizes to be awarded. Games will include water limbo, beach ball races, jump rope, splash and many more. Wednesdays 5:30 - 6:15 p.m. July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 General Admission Fee

LEARN-TO-SWIM Indoor & Outdoor Swim Lessons The Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department provides American Red Cross swim programs for children, teens, and adults taught by certified instructors. Learn-toSwim classes will be taught at the Riverfront Community

Center and the Wollman Aquatic Center in June and July. Students must be registered by noon the Friday before the session starts. Fees: $40 for resident, $45 for non-resident (3rd child ½ price)

MAY 9 - FREE First City Fishing Gala Check-in: 8 – 9 a.m. Children ages 6-15 are invited to bring their poles and join in the fun at 80 Acres (formerly Doolittle Farms). The Leavenworth Bass Club will provide everything your child will need to catch a fish including assistance if requested. There will be games, contests, prizes and a fish fry after the derby for all registered participants. Pre-registration required. Call 913-758-6648, May 4-8, 8am-4pm for information and to register. APRIL 24 - Arbor Day Celebration – Parks staff will plant a tree to honor a local person. Tree planting at noon at Ray Miller Park. APRIL 24-MAY 3 - The River City Community Players will be featuring “Belles” at the Leavenworth Performing Arts Center at 5th & Delaware. Performances will be held April 24, 25, 26, May 1, 2, 3. New Program: Parkour Fitness Training

(Begins June 3) Instructor Robert Bone began practicing Parkour five years ago. Parkour is a holistic training discipline using movement to get from point A to point B in the most efficient way possible. Parkour can include obstacle courses, running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, and rolling, depending on what movement is deemed most suitable for the given situation. Parkour is a fun way to exercise, and participants will experience increased flexibility, strength, and agility. Participants should wear loose clothing such as sweat pants, t-shirts and tennis shoes. Bring water or a sports drink for hydration. All participants must sign an additional participant waiver upon registration

Taekwon-Do with Master Frank Hannon

Year round at the Riverfront Community Center The mental training and techniques of unarmed combat for self-defense as well as health. It involves the skilled application of punches, kicks, blocks and dodges. Taekwon-Do training is wholistic and teaches physical toughness, self-defense, confidence and self-discipline. Dog Manners and Obedience Dog trainer, Kim Downing, will teach you and your fourlegged friend the basic commands. Geared for dogs ages 4 months or older. Must be current on vaccinations.
