NOVEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER
A Message From Your General Manager It’s hard to imagine that the final two months of 2024 are upon us; what a year this has been! It feels like September and October came and went in a flash – and now fall is here with the holiday season literally right around the corner. Looking ahead to December, please mark your calendars for the Holiday Tree lighting (12/1), CMC Annual Holiday Party (12/2- not too be missed!), and Breakfast with Santa (12/9). We appreciate everyone who took the time to complete the membership survey. While surveys always provide insight into some areas that need improvement, the most recent club survey indicated that member sentiment regarding our restaurant, tennis programs, and golf course have improved over the past year. The survey is helpful as the club makes plans for 2024. One of the long-standing and important annual traditions here at the Club is the Employee Holiday Fund. Each year, we ask our members to consider making a contribution to the fund, which is distributed to our employees so they and their families can enjoy the holiday season. I sincerely hope you can find it in your hearts to make a donation that will show these deserving employees that you appreciate their service to the club. Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour when you go to bed on Saturday, November 4th. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and I always look forward to seeing you at the club!

Pro’s Corner Dear Members, The winter season is upon us. Clocks will be set back November 5th, and the Golf Shop hours will be adjusted accordingly. Beginning next week, the Golf Shop will close at 5pm until spring. The driving range overseed has taken a little longer than expected. It is beginning to look like it will be another week or so before we can reopen the range. Keep an eye out for communication regarding when the driving range will open. We appreciate your patience.
Devin and I will be starting our winter training groups Saturday, November 11th from 12pm4pm. Please visit the calendar on the website to register. We ask that you register by 5pm the day prior so we have an accurate head count. We hope you have noticed our Golf Shop has taken a bit of a face-lift in hopes that we can successfully create a better shopping experience for members and guests. Please come by and check out our current selections as we have received some really cool inventory for winter with a 20% discount on apparel for members only. This holiday season we have several deals happening that will make great gifts! First, I am offering a Golf Lesson special. Prepay $160, receive three lessons valued at $240. Stop by the Golf Shop to purchase and pick up your punch card. Second, purchase six Green Fee Guest Tokens for only $300! These tokens are valued at $480, so don’t miss out on this opportunity. Golf News DRIVING RANGE DIVOT PATTERNS A divot pattern is reflective of how a golfer hits shots on the driving range. Golfers who take care of their grass driving range and show it some respect make a specific divot pattern. A scattered divot pattern removes the most amount of turf because a full divot is removed with every swing. Scattering divots results in the most turf loss and uses up the largest area of a tee stall. This forces the Golf Shop to rotate tee stalls most frequently and often results in an inefficient use of the tee. A concentrated divot pattern removes all turf in a given area. While this approach does not necessarily result in a full-sized divot removed with every swing, by creating a large void in the turf canopy there is little opportunity for timely turf recovery. A linear divot pattern involves placing each shot directly behind the previous divot. In doing so, a linear pattern is created and only a small amount of turf is removed with each swing. This can usually be done for 15 to 20 shots before moving sideways to create a new line of divots. So long as a minimum of 4 inches of live turf is preserved between strips of divots, the turf will recover quickly. Because the divot pattern removes the least amount of turf and promotes quick recovery, it is the preferred method. Please do your part by using the linear divot pattern and respect the turf on our range.
Members, please share this with any junior golfers in your family!

LGA News The LGA Season Closer was held on October 28 with 19 ladies participating in a fun filled day with golf, flag events and lunch. Kim not only drove #4 but hit another great shot that found the green on hole 10; way to go!!!! Andrea, Jan, Lisa and Tiffany had the winning score of a smooth 72. We headed over to the restaurant afterwards for a great salad bar and wraps. A big thank you to Devin, Chuck, Norman, and Eric for all their assistance. The LGA just got back from our getaway to Pinehurst October 12-15. We played both Legacy Golf Links and Longleaf Golf and Family Club, although our Saturday round ended early due to rain. No matter, as we headed to The Deuce for lunch at the 18th green of Pinehurst #2. We shopped in the Village of Pinehurst, enjoyed soup and salad dinners together and returned to the Pine Crest Inn for a private dinner that was first rate. We enjoyed breakfast together at the Pinehurst Harness Track as we departed for home. Watch for information on our 2024 Getaway in the next few months! We are also looking forward to our LGA Holiday Party December 7! Take a look at some of the pictures from our LGA Season Closer and Pinehurst trip! Interested in joining in on the fun?
