Nicole Ortega, ’17 What opportunities did you enjoy during your time at Meredith? By the time I graduated, I had completed two internships and had a full year of work experience under my belt. I worked for a Meredith alumna as a finance and accounting intern. And I was asked to continue working part-time through the fall as a staff accountant. I also completed an internship at LORD Corporation in the tax department.
How have you been involved at Meredith? During my time at Meredith, I was part of Meredith’s Accounting and Finance Association (MAFA), and a member of Kappa Nu Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies. My involvement in MAFA gave me the opportunity to listen to many different accounting speakers which helped educate me on the profession and determine my career path. As the historian for Alpha Lambda Delta, I wrote an article about Meredith’s chapter accomplishments and
to strengthen my leadership skills and professional development. Without my Meredith professors, I wouldn’t have gotten the opportunity to work for Rebecca Ackerson, ’96, vice president of finance and accounting at MedThink, Inc. She contacted the faculty in the School of Business in search of an accounting intern. That’s how we were able to connect.
What are your plans after graduation? With multiple job offers, I decided to accept a position as a financial analyst for Cisco. Meredith’s School of Business Career Tool Kit was extremely helpful in leading up to the interview. Having these tools prior to my job search has really prepared me in landing this great opportunity with Cisco. I feel very confident that the skills I have developed at Meredith will allow me to excel in my position at Cisco and all my future endeavors.
that was published in The Flame, the national magazine. I was also a Big/Lil’ co-chair where I analyzed more than 600 profiles and surveys to match incoming freshmen with a compatible junior.
How have your relationships with faculty and staff enriched your experience? I really value the relationships I formed with my professors because I know that they wanted me to succeed. They introduced me to the Broyhill Business Fellows Program, for which I am truly thankful because I’ve been able
