Through this program, you’ll identify your primary strengths using an online talent assessment. Then, throughout your four years at Meredith, you’ll examine how those strengths can help you shape your academic goals, out of class experiences such as study abroad and internships, experiential involvement, financial plans, and career choice.

StrongPoints, a comprehensive advising and coaching initiative, is based on leading educational research on how successful students make the most of college.

You’ll do this important work with the guidance of faculty and staff advisers. And our individualized approach to education means you’ll work with not just one adviser, but several, all with different areas of expertise. The result? You’ll graduate from Meredith knowing how to create and execute an effective plan that prepares you for a successful career and a rewarding life. StrongPoints is available to every Meredith student. There’s no separate registration – or cost. It’s an integral part of your Meredith experience – one that starts at orientation and continues throughout your college career.

StrongPoints in Action Explore your strengths within four primary areas: academic, experiential, financial, and career. Academic Through StrongPoints you’ll work with staff and faculty advisers to develop a plan to select a major, achieve your academic goals, and graduate on time.

Experiential StrongPoints will help you make the most of experiential opportunities that develop your strengths and prepare you for a career and/or graduate school.

Financial

Career

Take responsibility for success in all areas of your life, including your finances. Through StrongPoints, learn how to create a budget, understand the difference between good and bad debt, and negotiate job offers.

As part of StrongPoints, learn to apply your strengths, interests, and values toward various career options. You’ll also develop a strong resume, practice interviews, and begin building a network of professionals in your field.


Four Years of StrongPoints Here are just some of the ways you’ll build on your strengths each year. • Work with your faculty adviser to explore your academic interests through Meredith’s general education and academic programs.

FRESHMAN

• Enroll in FYE 100 and learn strategies for academic success, campus involvement, personal finance, and major and career exploration. • Gather information about co-curricular experiences such as student organizations, study abroad, athletics, and undergraduate research.

• In collaboration with your faculty adviser, select a major and create a pathway to complete your studies on time.

SOPHOMORE

• Explore interests, values, and skills through experiential opportunities and determine how they relate to your major and career interests. • Begin identifying internships, undergraduate research, and study abroad options that align with your academic, personal, and career goals.

• Monitor and revise your academic progress and graduation plan in consultation with your faculty adviser.

JUNIOR

• Assume leadership roles in your co-curricular experiences, both on and off campus. • Participate in internships, research, and job observations aligned with your major and career goals.

• With your faculty adviser, review your academic plan to ensure completion of all graduation requirements.

SENIOR

• Selectively focus on leadership development through co-curricular experiences. • Participate in conversations and programming to support financial planning after college. •

Take advantage of job preparation opportunities such as resume critiques, mock interviews, job fairs, and career counseling appointments. Apply for graduate/professional school programs and job opportunities.

StrengthsLab Making the most of your strengths requires focused effort throughout your time at Meredith. That’s why we created StrengthsLab – a space on campus for every student to work on her strengths. What happens in StrengthsLab? In addition to individual student work, the StrongPoints team frequently hosts events such as senior send-off and a strengths-based leadership series. And campus departments offer programming such as workshops on strengths-based resumes and mock interviews with employers.

127 YEARS, 2,000 STUDENTS, 22,000 GRADUATES, ALL GOING STRONG. Chartered in 1891, Meredith College opened with just over 200 women. Today, Meredith is one of the nation’s largest independent private women’s colleges. Our student body has grown to nearly 2,000 and includes men at the graduate level in business, education, nutrition, and psychology; post-baccalaureate certificates in pre-health and business; a paralegal program, and more. Meredith challenges students to explore their interests, expand their skills, and build on their strengths. Our graduates go on to use their intellect and abilities to make a positive impact on the world.
