BRAINSTORMING YOUR BUSINESS Do you want to start your own business or develop a business idea. In 2 workshops we will help you to brainstorm a business concept, find a business name and start a portfolio of resources to take you to the next step of business planning and preparation or developing a social media strategy and website covered in our longer courses. Are you having trouble hearing? Do you have difficulty understanding people face to face? Do others complain that your TV is too loud? Do you miss the doorbell or telephone ringing? Do you find it difficult to follow conversations in noisy places? If you answer yes to any of the above questions please come into the Meredith Community Centre for your FREE 15 minute hearing test. AN INTRODUCTION TO WELDING

Do you want some skills to help you find work or continue to a course or apprenticeship. This class is an introductory level course aimed for young people who have left school and deciding on their “next step” You will be someone wanting to start from the beginning and build your skills so you can take on more demanding welding courses and aim towards attaining employment in the industry. You will learn how to safely weld and cut a wide range of metals using the three most widely used welding practices in industry. Each session will be a balance of theory & practical to learn and practice welding techniques to become competent welders. Class will be limited to 3 participants only. Date: Tuesday 9th May for 5 weeks Time: 9.00am to 4.00pm 1 hr lunch break Cost: $140.00 Workbook & Consumables are included. Students must provide their own workshop clothing that is up to safety standards. Information provided on enrolment.

Chain of survival

The Chain of Survival is a 45 minute interactive session. Content covered in the program includes; recognising a medical emergency, calling Triple Zero (000) and CPR and defibrillator awareness. There are opportunities for questions and answers and to participate in interactive demonstrations of CPR and the use of defibrillators. Presented by Ambulance Victoria Community Education and Engagement staff. The session is delivered FREE of charge. Date: Wednesday 14th June 11am Followed by a light lunch $5.00

Lots of quick classes to help you get on top of the world of technology. Excell: Monday 29th May If you have used excel but want to know more about using it this quick workshop will give you some hints and tips to work with it more effectively. Windows 10 : Monday 5th June Have you updated to windows 10 ? Are struggling to get your head around it.? In this session we will look at getting started with windows 10, managing multiple windows, personalising your desktop, customising the start menu, managing users and parental controls and security and maintenance. Getting to know the Cloud : Monday 19th June You have heard people using terms like the cloud or cloud computing. What is it and why would i need it? We will look at things like file storage, file sharing and backing up data. If you use an email service like gmail or yahoo you are already in the cloud so come along and learn more. The Internet is without a doubt one of the best resources available to us. Unfortunately it’s also extremely dangerous if you aren’t aware of who and what lurks behind the scenes. Everyone should know how to be safe when surfing the web, Feeling comfortable and safe on the internet is extremely important, not only so that you can take advantage of the ease and convenience of job search, accessing services such as MyGov and other service websites, shopping, and banking, but so that you can safely use social media as well. KNITTING FOR BEGINNERS

Never picked up a needle? Learnt to knit once but haven’t tried for years? Lets get together and discover the fun of knitting, and complete a small project together. we will talk about choosing yarn and needles, learn basic stitches, shaping and maybe even some fancy techniques. CROCHET FOR BEGINNERS

All welcome, no previous experience needed! This class will show you all the stitches and techniques you need to create your own projects. We will make small projects such as a granny square, a decorative star or a small toy. SOCK KNITTING

Ever wanted to try but not sure about how? It can be confusing to get started: set of needles or circular? Toe up or top down? And how does that heel shaping work? We will work through a simply sock pattern and learn each of the stages to creating your first pair of toe up socks. Lots of help with materials and techniques in time for chilly winter. THE STORY OF MY FAMILY

Every family has its own history; the stories of laughter and tears that go to make up who we are and where we came from. This class will assist you in writing, collecting and compiling the events that make your family unique, then turning those tales into a publication that you can share with your loved ones. We will cover how to gather ideas, compile and order them, edit effectively and present your book. No previous writing experience needed, we will adjust for the needs and interests of group members. Dates: Wednesday May 17th to June 7th ( 4 weeks) Times: 1.00pm -3.00pm Cost: $ 40.00

BEGINNERS’ GUIDE TO POETRY

From limericks to sonnets, poems provide a rich source of pleasure and inspiration. This group will introduce a variety of funny, moving and exciting poems and develop our understanding of the techniques used by poets to craft these little gems. It doesn’t matter if you have no previous knowledge of literature; we will explore poems that are easy to relate to and will open us up to new ideas, while being fun as well. This class shows how to get involved in this worthwhile program and covers the tricks and tips that will mean every octo you make will get through the screening process and be safe for these tiny, vulnerable people. TAI CHI Tai Chi is a moving form of meditation, with a low impact on the body that helps to maintain a healthy body and mind. Each class is structured to ease the participant through particular movements. Participants of varying ages and abilities are encouraged to learn at their own pace, gaining greater strength and balance. . Desma’s and Sandra’s classes introduce you to the moves that help you learn to control your breathing and improve your well-being.

STEADY FEET IN MEREDITH

at the Meredith Community Centre Wednesday 19th April until Wednesday 28th June. 9.30-10.30am (45 minutes to 1 hour of exercises) 4 Russell Street, Meredith - In the studio $5.00 Steady Feet is a program designed for older adults to reduce the risk of falls by performing exercises to challenge the balance systems and to increase strength and flexibility of the lower limb muscles. The program will consist of weekly sessions (including a pre-test session and a post-test session excluding school and public holidays). Each session, conducted by qualified exercise professionals, will run for approximately one hour, incorporating an exercise component and an opportunity to socialise and have a cup of tea or coffee afterwards. Before commencing the program all participants will require a signed medical check by their Doctor within the last 12 months. Occasional Care

We have experienced and qualified childcare educators committed to providing a quality service in a warm friendly environment. Our program is designed to meet the individual needs of your child and the needs of the group. We welcome you to come and visit the Centre and talk to our staff. Monday-9.15-1.45pm Tuesday–9.15-12.15 Thursday 9.15 to 1.45 5 Hour sessions—Wednesday and Friday 9.15 to 2.15 After Kinder care session Mon, Tue Thurs 2.00 to 3.15. Children will be either taken over to the Primary School by our educator to join the after school program at 3.15 or to catch a bus. You can also collect your kinder and school aged child at the same time. The service is registered with DET so that you can access the Childcare Benefit and Childcare Rebate, which assists in making care in our Centre affordable. Some limited vacancies available so give us a call Caring staff and a quality program

The Meredith Community Centre aim to provide activities to suit a range of tastes and interests. Sometimes if we do not have sufficient enrolments to cover our costs we may not be able to run and advertised class.

Please check our website for more information about our Learn local programs funded through the Victorian government. Courses displaying the Learn Local label are subsidised with funding from the Victorian Government through ACFE (Adult Community and Further Education)
